Turn off in-chat sounds

Ever since updating to the newest version of desktop skype, I get a sound notifications whenever im actively using the skype window. More specifically whenever someone sends an IM, its pings. Making group chats aggrivating to participate in.
I have skype set to only notify me for certain words, but it only works properly if im busy with another window or program. Turning notifications off doesn't turn off the sounds if im active within the chat.
How can I turn off the sound notifications when im actively participating in the chat?

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Do you happen to be signed in to Outlook.com or Onedrive.com in a web browser in the background? You might receive the sound notifications from that browser window and not the Skype for Windows desktop application.

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
Press RETURN.

I'm running Windows7 x64 on an Intel iMac (July 2010 revision).
Things are running well for the most part. However, I am unable to find a way to turn off the blooping sound played when adjusting the volume in Windows 7 (I know how to turn it off in OS X). I have tried turning off all system sounds under Windows,but the volume adjustment sound still plays. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I find it jarring. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give.

You're getting different answers because different countries have different rules. In some places Apple is allowed to turn off the camera sound when the device is put on mute. In others, because of privacy concerns, Apple is not allowed to do so. Whenther you can or not depends on where you are. If mute doesn;t do it for you, you probably cannot turn it off.

The best way to turn off the startup sound is to mute speakers before turning off your computer.
Also, apps that help you turn off the startup sound don't work with iMacs. There's a command that will allow you to turn it off without muting your speakers. See > http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/

On the N80 you can by putting it on silent turn off the camera sound wich i found very annoying! That is sooo nokia, there is no option for turning of the camera sound, only an option for choosing between 4 different sounds, however you can easy disable the sound by putting the phones profile to silent, haha rediculus!

If you have a phone intended for sale in Japan, it's operating correctly. The mute switch does not disable the shutter sound. All phones in Japan, to the best of my knowledge, are hard coded to prevent the sound from being disabled for privacy reasons.

Yes, I have the option "NONE" on my phone but what happens is that I have the incoming text without any sound (selected in "none") but when I send a text, still happens! that annoying sound!

option!
If not, you will need to replace the click sound file with a

The start up tone is an important part of the start up sequence however if you want turn it off there are utilties that will do that. You can use Google to find one.
BTW, if you look in your owners manual it says;
"If you‘ll be away from your iMac for less than a few days, put it to sleep. When youriMac is in sleep, its screen is dark. You can quickly wake your iMac and bypass thestartup process."
My recommendation, follow the manual and don't shut the computer down.

Turn on silent mode, simple toggle the switch on the side of the phone. If you see the orange dot your in it. Then you wont here the sounds, but remember to flip it back so you'll hear ringtones if you want to.;)
