  • Turn off laptop screen while using iTunes? Or best screen saver?

Is there a way to turn off the iBook display and still let the computer use iTunes? I can't find anything on this. If that isn't possible, what would be the best screen saver for actually saving the screen? If you know what I mean....

That does work--thank you. I wanted this solution for iTunes. This came to my attention when a friend of mine was using his MacBook to run a movie on a television, and he was complaining about the fact that the MacBook display could not be shut off while exporting the feed to the tv. You've answered my question, but I'm going to amend the topic to include shutting off screen while exporting a video feed--perhaps someone knows the answer to that. (I don't have anything to port a feed too, or I'd try it myself.) Thank you!

  • How to blank laptop screen when using external monitor/

    Hi there
I need some help with figuring out how to configure my xorg.conf for my Arch Linux 64 bit installation on a HP Pavilion dv 5000 laptop so that I can automatically blank my laptop screen when using an external monitor.  I have Arch Linux installed along with Ubuntu Feisty.  In Ubuntu my external monitor (Viewsonic 1912WB) was not detected at the time of installation but with the native 1280X800 resolution that is good for the laptop takes effect for the external monitor automatically when the external monitor is plugged in.  The laptop monitor goes blank when the external monitor is plugged in.
In my Arch Linux installation I have not been able to configure a dual head configuration using the ATI Radeon drivers (fglrx).  I have the native 1280X800 resolution set up for the laptop monitor and this resolution takes effect for the external monitor also.  However the laptop monitor also continues to function when the external monitor is plugged in.  I would like to blank the laptop monitor when using the external monitor.
I am attaching my Arch Linux xorg.conf and the Ubuntu xorg.conf below.  Thanks for anyone who can help, I am having a lot of difficulty in figuring out how to set up xorg.conf among all the things that I have had to learn so far in Linux and I am a relative newcomer to the whole thing. I have tried to compare the two xorg.conf files and edit my Arch xorg.conf in accordance with the Ubuntu one but it did not work and I keep getting errors!
I am using XFCE as my Desktop environment.

Xrandr 1.2 provides means for this. But today the only supported configuration is xorg-server-1.3 + xf86-video-intel-2.0. So for Radeon you'll have to wait for drivers that support Randr 1.2.
On my laptop (Thinkpad x60s) that would be:
    xrandr --output VGA --auto
    xrandr --output LVDS --off

  • Using just the TV screen when using HDMI port?

    Hi,
I have the Macbook Pro with retina display and I was wondering how I could use just the TV screen when using HDMI port. I don't want mirroring displays, just one on the TV.

With the TV connected and the MBP plugged into the mains (i.e. not running on battery power) close the lid.  The MBP will go to sleep, wake it up with an external keyboard or mouse - which must be connected in advance, or paired in advance if a bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

  • How can I turn off computer screen, when mirroring to apple tv?

How can I turn off computer screen, when mirroring to apple tv?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't. Mirroring is just what it says, it mirrors exactly what is on your computer screen, if there is nothing on your computer screen, that's what you will see on your TV screen.

  • How to switch off laptop screen when you connect external LCD?

Hello, being new to Mac I'd like to ask if it is possible to completely switch off the laptop screen when you connect an external LCD screen and use it as your main desktop. My MacBook Pro does that automatically when I launch a full screen game, say World of Warcraft, but I would like to be able to do it manually.

If you have it connected to a keyboard and mouse, you just shut the lid and use it that way. Of course, I'd be curious why you wouldn't want to use the screen. Having two screens can be extremely useful. The only problem with it is that then you may miss it when you are away from your second screen!

  • Turning off laptop display to use Cinema display only

Is there a way to turn off my 12 incher's display so that I'm only using my 20-in. Cinema display?
There's such a difference in color and contrast, the laptop looks like $^@#$!, and I really don't need the extra space because of the wide-screen Cinema disp.

I don't believe you can just turn it off, but if you hook everything up and then close the display it will sleep. Then if you are using external keyboard and mouse you just click or hit a button and it will come up with just the one display (this is what I do). If you don't have external keyboard and mouse I don't believe you can do anything.

  • How do you turn off Flash audio when using captivate Nav bar?

    Hi Guys and Girls
I have an imported flash file that plays an audio track,
I have no problem turning the audio off, when the user uses
the button within the flash file to go to the next slide in the
    captivate movie...
    on(release){
    stopAllSounds();
    _root.rdcmndNextSlide = 1;
BUT if the user decides to use the navigation bar within the
captivate movie it all goes pair shape.. The flash audio continues
to play into the next slide. Anyone have a know how to solve this
    problem?
How do you tell flash to stop playing the audio when using
    the captivate navigation bar?
(The flash file is a flip book and the audio NEEDS to stay
    within the flash file)
    Cheers
    Aquil0

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This totally solved my issue. I had a Captivate 4 movie using an embeded animation that had audio. It would play the audio again when the next slide appeared. I have to use Captivate 4, because my audience still uses Flash 7 (yikes). However, if you have Captivate 5 and are having this problem there is a widget that solves this issue: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2010/11/animations-%E2%80%93-audio-sync-issue.html#commen t-3872

  • How to turn off laptop screen....

when my PB is connected to my Plasma and how do I get the sound through my amp/speakers?
    Help appreciated.
    Cheers

Could you just put the brightness to the lowest setting, which will turn off the backlight?
As for sound, you can use a 1/8" mini plug to RCA cable to connect your PowerBook to your amp/speakers.
If you have the last PB models with optical audio output and your reciever has optical audio input, you could get a optical audio cable to connect your PB.

  • Turn off Main Screen While Using External

i hate that i cant figure this out LOL
i have my intel imac hooked to a 52"lcd that i watch movies on and i want to turn off the imac screen because it sits right next my lcd and prevents me from having a nice dark room for movies.
i am currently covering it with a t-shirt hahaha
anyone know how i can have it play on the lcd but shut off the main monitor?
i am not using mirroring so i would think that i should somehow be able to shut off the main screen and keep the movie playing on the external.
    thanks

    Hi fletch3333
Try Shades in extended desktop mode it will allow you to dim either display to any level you want. Go to the Shades preference panel and check the box "Constrain to it's own screen" and you should get a brightness icon on the menu bar for each display.

  • How to totally turn off data traffic when using ma...

    Nokia N8-00:
I only use the integrated gps and have turned off the assisted gps, net based gps and Wi-Fi/Network but when accessing maps it still generates data traffic.
Normally this is´nt a problem but when traveling abroad data traffic costs a small fortune.
In my old N95 when I downloaded offline maps and turned everything but integrated gps off there was no data traffic at all but even after the latest maps updates (i.e. yesterday) it appears that the maps still needs downloading when accessed...
Any suggestions how to completely avoid data traffic when using maps?

Set all destinations to always ask and select no whenever the phone gives you a request, set Maps to offline, and set location to just use intergrated GPS. By the way, just been to Portugal using Vodafone and data charges only about £5 for week, and they've just improved allowances, may be worth checking your service providers web site and see if it's necessary to bother about data roaming, they all tend to follow each other, and Data roaming charges in europe seem to be coming down !

  • Models that turn off integrated antenna when using antenna jack.

I am looking for a cell phone that has an external antenna jack AND will turn off the integrated antenna when the external jack is inserted. Lets define the term " integrated" as being an internal antenna or the permanent attached external or nub style. This can be on the market now or on the used market. The Treo line, even the old ones, is my primary interest but only because i have tried them and I could check email. Any HP/Palm model cell phone would be fine even if it is only available on the used ebay market. Knowing what models DO and DO NOT have an external jack and knowing what ones WILL and WILL NOT turn off the antenna next to my head will help me narrow down my options. So knowing a model will not do as I want is just as valuable. Thanks for the help. Pete I try to buy local. With cell phones that is hard for obvious reasons. HP has many workers in my hometown so i will support them first. If you can think of a non-HP or PALM company that offers this option please let me know and I will add it to the backup list.

  • Apple TV3 turns off and on when using remote, already reset and restarted.

Apple TV just started acting up yesterday.  When using remote, light on Apple TV would turn off and on so it would somewhat work when the light was on and would not when light when off.  When light is off and in a menu selection, cursor would just move to the end of the list and stop.  Already restored back to factory and reset it.  Difficult to program after reset when remote only works part of the time when the light goes on so stuck in out of the box condition.  Any help on this?  Thanks!

  • Satellite A660-11M how to turn off the screen when I'm downloading?

i just want to know how to trurn off the screen for save energy and protect the screen, someone tell me please! thanks a lot !

If you are ready to switch off, put to standby/sleep mode you laptop by pressing alt-F3-F4 or through menu, then I recommend you set in power options "when I close the lid-do nothing". In that case closing the lid will switch off the screen for downloading time.
