Turn Off Mic on Apple In-Ear Headphones

I finally received the New In-Ear headphones with Microphone for my touch.
After waiting so long for Amazon to ship them, I was worried about the sound quality from all the negative reviews.
The sound is great, BUT there is no way to turn off the microphone, so I can actually hear my breathing! If the cord is rustled at all, the microphone amplifies the noise to the headphones.
So if I keep PERFECTLY STILL, I have no complaints about sound quality, not even the bass.
It seems none of the reviewers have realized the microphone is amplifying every little sound and movement.
Is there any way to turn the microphone off when it's not needed?
Please?

Oh I don't think it's the Mic. If ya talk into it (the mic) it does not amplify your voice does it? No, I don't think it will. If ya just plug your ears shut with your fingers you will get the same sound situation as the earplugs are creating.
There has been a lot of discussion about the "noise" on the new headphones. It comes from the cord itself. And it's doing just what those old "cup with string walkie talkies" did when we (I) were kids. Every movement is being sent/vibrated up the cord to your well closed ears and it's just loud because your ears are shut. I ate some hard pretzels the other night with my earphones in and almost blew my eardrums out from the crushing sound. But it WAS NOT coming from the mic. This of course is my opinion and two cents worth.

  • I lost one of the earbuds for my Apple In-ear Headphones with Mic. Now what do It do?

I lost one of the earbuds for my Apple In-ear Headphones with Mic.
In case you don't see why this could be a big deal, let me remind you that these little earphones will run you $79 new. Naturally, I'm sure there's got to be a reasonable solution that another owner of these headphones may know of or can share with me.
Should I bring it to the Apple store or will they just laugh at me?
Basically, all I'm missing is the jelly-like in-ear bud on one side (which is easily replaceable; I just need to know where I can order GENUINE extras from).
Click here to see the Apple In-ear Headphones I'm referring to.

I've tried several and the best by far is the Sennheiser MM50 iP ($99 at the apple store). The sound is incredible, particularly the low frequecy response (bass). These are even better than the Bose Triports I used for my iPod, plus they have the mic and button for recieving calls and ipod playback. I also have the airdrives, which don't even compare for sound quality and range because they aren't in-ear (they sit directly in front of the ear canal). I still use the airdrives in situations where I want music distraction but still want to hear what's happening around me, but for in-ear sound quality and iPhone functionality I don't think you're going to find better for the Sennheisers for under $100. In fact I don't think their is anything under $250 right now that would match it for performance, comfort and functionality.
Note: these are asymmetrical which means the cord for the right earbud goes behind your neck to the right ear. I found this strange at first but now I actually like it because it allows you to pull the earlplugs out and just let them rest over your neck/shoulders.

  • Does Apple make/sell the new "Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic" with a one sided configuration? So that a person that is deaf in one can hear both sides of a stereo recording? Also, since the "other" bud is not necessary/useful...it's removed.

As far as I know, Apple sells no such configuration.  However, under Settings > General > Accessability, there is an option to play back audio in monoural mode, which would then play both halves of a stereo mix in each earbud.
    Hope that helps.

  • Reak or fake Apple in ear headphone

HELP, i have found an Apple in ear headphone on yahoo auctions. it says 100% real from Apple, but i've been searching from the apple on line store and i was not able to locate such ear phone. i would like to know if this is been made by Apple or they are fake.

i would like to know if this is been made by Apple or they are fake.
Nobody here can say - fakes can be very convincing. If you are worried about that then don't buy from an auction. Buy from an authorised re-seller or from Apple themselves.
Remember, if the price makes the offer sound too good to be true, then it probably is.

  • Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts."

  • Is it possible to get custom eartips for the Apple In-ear headphones?

A year or so ago I purchased the Apple In-ear headphones. I use them primarily in the car when my brother plays his music through the car stereo while I'm watching a movie on my iPod Touch or my MacBook Pro. They have very good isolation, but are uncomforable and it is very hard to get them to fit in my ears properly as well as keeping them from working themselves out of my ears. This is with me using the small eartips as the large eartips don't fit in my ears at all and the medium eartips make my ears hurt more than the small eartips along with not fitting as well.
I think custom eartips may be the best solution to my quandry.
Is it possible to get custom eartips for my Apple In-ear headphones?
If so, where can I get custom eartips for my Apple In-ear headphones?

i would definitely try amazon.com, im sure there are some earips on there that are fit to work with apple in-ear headphones, hope this helps!

  • New Apple In-Ear Headphones

Okay, I had a few questions to ask before I go out and by these so I don't waste my money.
    1. Are the new In-Ear headphones compatible with the Original iPhone?
    2. Are they sold at Best Buy?
If anyone could help me that would be great

    Hello Covenant,
First, the Apple In-Ear Headphones will work with the iPhone except for the volume control function. This thread and link provide some information on them:

Whether Best Buy carries them or not, I can't answer. They are not listed on their online store, but you can always contact your local brick-and-mortar Best Buy and see if they have them in stock.

  • Apple in ear headphones vs.voice control

...never happened with the standard earphones....I was so delighted with the sound of my new InEar Apple earphones....but all of a sudden they started having this problem: after about 1/2 hour listening to music in my gs3 phone, the sound suddenly goes down and the voice control starts....after a few seconds the music starts again, but only for a few mins....then the problem.....again and again....not the ideal way to listen to good music!!!
Has anyone experienced a similar inconvenience?

I have a similar problem with my Apple in ear headphones.
If I'm lying in bed, the button goes haywire and will stop whatever is playing.
It sometimes starts again, sometimes doesn't.
Sometimes it will act as if I'm fast forwarding it, changed the speed to 2x on the iPod application.
Then it just cuts out. I have to press the button again to get it to start.
Occasionally, if the headphones are just plugged in and nothing's happening, the button will activate itself and start music, stop it randomly and skip songs randomly too.

  • Can I Turn OFF the Glowing Apple Logo?

I like the logo, don't get me wrong. It's that I'm a college student and I know I would be kind of distracted by a glowing apple. What do you guys think? Any solutions?

    Abi,
You can't turn off the glowing apple without turning off the backlight on the LCD display. If you do this, then you can't see the LCD display.
Any good instructor will only be distracted by a glowing apple for about 2.54 seconds. They'll get used to it pretty quick, especially if they are already used to other students taking notes with a laptop.
Any fellow student who is distracted by your glowing apple is looking in the wrong direction. Don't worry about them, they probably have ADD, and would be distracted by a flying insect.
Seriously, my experience is that people will comment on what a nice looking computer it is . . . but when it comes down to the time to be serious it's not all that distracting.
