Turn off new feature/tutorial/etc panel?

how does one turn off this panel at launch? i cannot seem to find where to do this.

Sorry for my first response. My apologies. I thought you were asking for the "Transform Panel" which gets invoked on creating rectangle.
If you have the cloud subscription then:
For the Welcome screen you can select the "New Feature" tab and scroll to the bottom of this tab.
Then select the "Don't Show Welcome Screen Again" check box.
If you are using it as trial then this option "Don't Show Welcome Screen Again" is not displayed.

With the position of the power button on the Retina MacBooks, any mistake turns off the screen in the middle of a presentation or any activity using a projector or big screen — a huge waste of time to wake up the display, enter password, have the projector sync back, watch audience disconnecting from what was being discussed, etc.
This is very annoying, and seems to add to the increasing collection of options Apple decided to make by itself instead of allowing the user to choose.
Come on Apple guys, I'm using my Mac because I want options and lots of preferences to tweak to my needs.
If I needed the lobotomized version I'd be using my iPad!
Any way (official or hack) to change this button back to its proper funcionality?

Not what you want, but you can get the shut down / restart / sleep dialog by holding the power button

To disable that feature it will depend on whether or not you sync everything in the cloud using Apple's iCloud, OR if you both use the same desktop/laptop computer with iTunes. How can I turn off background features in Premiere Elements 8?

There are two features that run in the background while you're working in Premiere Elements 8 which, while useful, can interfere with your other work. So, if you find your computer running sluggishly, you may want to try disabling them.
Background Rendering renders all non-DV footage or footage to which effects or transitions have been applied on your timeline automatically. (Clips which appear on the timeline with a red line above them need to be rendered in order to show at full quality.) To turn off this feature, go to Edit/Preferences and uncheck the Background Rendering option.
To manually render your video, press Enter. The red lines above your clips will turn green when rendering is complete.
The Organizer also runs a background feature called the Auto Analyzer. To disable it, go to the Organizer's Edit/Preferences and select the Auto Analyzer page. Uncheck this option.
Note that the Auto Analyzer creates Smart Tags, which are necessary in order for the program to Auto Enhance your clips. If you turn off the Auto Analyzer, then, you will also disable the Auto Enhance feature.
Finally, as an added tweak, go to Premiere Elements' Edit/Preferences and set Timeline Scrolling to Page Scroll. The default setting (Smooth Scrolling) continually moves the timeline as your video plays, wasting unnecessary resources.

That is not standard behavior. You may have installed an extension that causes it.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Every cut I make in the sequence window leaves one remaining frame from its deleted neighbor clip. How do I turn off this feature - It is driving me mad.

Here are 3 pictures detailing what I'm experiencing.
Picture 1; clip 1 tail frame.
Picture 2; clip 2 head frame.
Picture 3; clip 2 head frame is now tail frame of clip 1.
does this help describe what is happening? Basically every cut I make
leaves an unwanted frame as a ghost of the missing cut.

What are you talking about? There is no "compatibility feature" on the iPhone, and .exe files won't run on the phone.
Please slow down and explain exactly what you're trying to do and what happens when you try.

Is there a global way to turn off restore features?

The restore features are quite problematic. Is there a way to turn this off globally? Every time I open Textmate, or Preview, etc with a new document, I get window(s) with previous documents. When I log back in, if I forgot to hit the logout-sabotaging check-box, all the previous applications re-open. It is driving up my blood pressure.
Is the a defaults command or something I can do?

Thanks. I found the 10,000 other postings after I posted this (the new search utility auto-dumped me into a new post).
Two additional defaults commands I found turn off the remaining annoyances in Safari and Preview:
defaults write com.apple.Preview ApplePersistenceIgnoreState -bool TRUE
defaults write com.apple.Safari ApplePersistenceIgnoreState -bool TRUE
Now if I can find one to permanently uncheck that check-box you get on log-out, I will be (relatively) happy.

How to turn off trackpad features

Need to deactivate (at least) the "rotate" feature on the trackpad. Makes using Photoshop a pain with it on.
Don't see any option to turn this (or many other features) off in the trackpad prefs panel.
How can I do this?
Also my web browser is constantly changing size ... quite annoying. I'm obviously hitting something on the trackpad, but I'd simply like to make it into a "normal" trackpad. I use the two finger scroll & such but all the other features just make this computer a pain to use ... need them all off.

I don't have a rotate feature on my trackpad, which makes me guess that you have the new Macbooks with iPhone-like pads...
But, my guess would be to go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse...there's shortcuts there for me, at least...???

Others have asked and been answered to make a selection under "tools" to do this, but my version (3.6) does not have the same configuration under "tools" that previous questioners have been advised to use. I can only select web search, downlaods, set up synch, erros console, web console, page info, start private browing, clear recent history. Which one?

The setting in "Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
