Turn Off Pen Tool Guide Line (Rubber Band) - Illustrator CC 2014

Working in Illustrator CC 2014. There is a guide line that follows the pen tool as I create my paths and shapes. I don't remember this from earlier versions of AI and I find it very distracting especially when creating curves, changing directions or once I've finished drawing a stroke. Does anyone know how to turn this feature off?
UPDATE:
If you want to turn this feature off here's how...
Preferences > Selection and Anchor Display > Uncheck the Enable Rubber Band for Pen Tool

Me too, I put up with it for like a month. So helpful. Thanks.

I assume the Rulers are showing. In that case, to get rid of each line use the Move tool to straddle the line and drag it whence it came. I really didn't need to add this comment but it is the first time in years I have had a chance to use the word "whence".
Is this a guide I see before me? Doeth it conspire to confuseth mine eyes with sapphire lines that afoul my worthy parchment, and draw my quill from its righteous path? Be gone foul guide from whence thou cometh.  Verily, forsooth, and hey nonny nonny.

You don't, just select another tool. I usually leave mine on the move tool, since that is used the most.

Can you turn off the automatic guide grids in Aperture books?

Yes you can do this - either the way you're already doing it by editing the published content or by changing the source code in the template itself.
I won't get into the details here cuz I have all this documented here:
    http://web.mac.com/sboben/iWeb/11Mystics/
See the iWeb Templates page. In short, what you have to do is show package contents for the iWeb app, open the Resources folder, open the .lproj folder for YOUR language, likely english, open the Templates folder and then one by one, for each page-type folder you find in there, you have to show package contents for your chosen template, unzip the index.xml.gz files, find the hyperlink settings in the XML, turn off the underline setting, save the file again and rezip it. Then any NEW pages you build will not contain underlined links. It sounds worse than it is.
If you tell me which template you're using, I'll go look in the file and tell you how to turn the underline code OFF. But you should read my instructions at my site before you even try to do this - I outline some things you should know before even opening up those XML files.

  • Problem turning off snap to guide MX11.0.2

    I am using FreehandMX 11.0.2 on a Mac G5 OS10.4.10 - I can no
longer use the view menu to show/hide guides, lock or turn off
snap. I can use the layers menu to show/hide or lock but cannot
turn off snap. I also cannot delete the Guide layer from the layers
menu. I have tried changing keyboard shortcut, deleting preference
file from settings folder but nothing works.

    Willem,
I don't use the F-keys in combination with modifier keys.
    Opt-F1 through
Opt-F8 are used by the system. Check in System
    Preferences>Keyboard &
Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts. Mac OS uses F9 through F12 for
    the Dock, Exposé
    and Dashboard.
If you never use certain system shortcuts, you could disable
    them in System
Prefs and thereby free them up for use in FreeHand. I have
    disabled the Mac
OS Spotlight shortcuts because they conflict with the
    magnifier tools in FH
    and Photoshop.
Here's what I use in FreeHand (US English keyboard layout):
    Grid>Show___F6
    Grid>Snap___F7
    Guides>Show___Opt+Cmd+;(semicolon)
    Guides>Snap___F8
Make sure when setting shortcuts in FH, you check "Go to
    conflict on assign"
to make sure you haven't used the same shortcut twice.
If you use a non-English keyboard layout, you might be seeing
    different
    results.
If you're using Entourage 2004 11.0, make sure to update to a
    current
version, because there's a known conflict with keyboard
    shortcuts in Adobe
    apps there.

Is there a way to turn off the panning movement after you let go of the space bar when using the hand tool? I find this really annoying when I am moving quickly on a project. Im moving a file around and let go of the spacebar and the page keeps moving arcoss the screen. Is there an option for turning this movement off?

Uncheck "Enable Flick Panning" in the Preferences.

  • Can't turn off Hand tool

I was working on 2 different illustrator documents and combined them into one, stepped away for a while and came back to not being able to remove the hand tool no matter what tool I click on.
I noticed in the title bar that in parens it reads (cmyk/preview/us web coated (SWOP) v2).  I am assuming the preview means that I am some kind of preview mode, however I don't know how I got there, nor can I get out.  Can someone help?
    Thanks

Update: Just figured it out! At some point, I've enabled the Marquee tool on the left click side. It should have been the 'pointer' setting. My bad!

  • Can't turn off Fader tool

Hey all!  I've just updated to Logic X about a month ago. During my session, I've been cutting, pasting, and editing between two audio tracks, comping two bass tracks sent to me from an outside source. I've been using the fader tool to smooth out the 'pops' and clicks with no problem. When I was ready to change back to using the Marquee tool, I was unable to move or cut the audio on either track. Even though the Marquee Tool is highlighted, it still acts as if I'm using the Fade tool. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so, is there a solution? Thanks for your help!

2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4Gig 500MBHDD boots slow.  It finishes post in the same time as an identical MBP, and then hangs for 30 seconds on one of the ethernet adapters, before finishing the boot.  Once booted it is normal.   Turning off airport changes nothing.  Hardline adapter is not plugged in.  Thunderbolt adapter is not used.  Bluetooth is off.  Did this out of box.  Identical MBP boots to login screen in 36 seconds.  Disk repair, permission repair, and safe mode boot have
already been done, no change.  Boot time is consistent.  Hangs at the same place each time.  Right after post.  Bad adapter?
    Comments, solutions please.

... and so ... now a few days later, success.   I ran
your software but it told me nothing I hadn 't seen
    in verbose boot.
Consistently, following good post, the boot hung
for 30 seconds on the adapters, (cards, chips, NICs.
Ethernet cards, whatever you prefer to call them)
either the airport card or the hard line.  It would then
proceed at normal pace to the login screen.
Since it came out of the box that way, software
conflict was not a go.  I guessed glitched driver or
fetch instruction.  I zapped the PRAM (cleared
NVRAM) and reloaded the OS, updates, Garage Band,
iPhoto (one of Apple's true dogs in an otherwise
rare arena) iMovie, Photoshop, Lightroom, their
updates, and my files.   MBP pro now boots to login
in 31 seconds.  Note I have turned off as much gee
whiz, rubber band scroll, global swiping and other
hubcaps and hood ornaments as befits how like
things ... and turned off all the Asian and other fonts
    I will. ever use.
Best guess ... corrupt driver or corrupt fetch script ...
bad server squirt at factory load.
    Thanks for your help, Cheers!

  • Using pen tool, no fill no stroke but still colored line?

I have used the pen tool to draw shapes in Illustrator. Some shapes have normal paths and some are weird. The normal paths disappear when they aren't clicked on, the weird ones have a green stroke always. There is no fill and no stroke on so I am confused. Also when I click on the normal ones and then try to use the pen tool, it creates a normal path. When I click on the weird ones and use the pen tool, it copies it and makes a green line. If I put on a stroke, its like there's an inner stroke. Please help!!

You sure that the green ones aren't Guides. I believe the default color for Guides is green. What happens if you go to View>Guides>Clear Guides? Do the green paths disappear? Cmd(Ctrl)-5 is the KBSC for Make Guide. If you accidentally hit that with a path selected it will become a guide.

  • Turn off alignment guides in 1 dimension?

I use the alignment guides to neatly and quickly align objects with each other on the slide, but oftentimes when lots of objects accumulate closely on the slide, it seems like every new object wants to align with everything else and it can be a big mess. Using the keyboard shortcut Command-drag temporarily turns off the alignment guides, but then it hard to precisely align objects.
My question: Is there a way to only turn off 1 dimension of the alignment guides in order to, for instance, line up a set of objects on the x-axis without triggering the y-axis alignment guides? I'm using Keynote '09 5.0.3.
    Thanks!

is there a way of switching it off so when i double click on a region it opens the full piano roll editor window instead of the all in 1 veiw
I agree, this should be an option.

  • Is there a way to turn off "enhance thin lines" in Acrobat 7.0?

    Hello all,
I am having problems properly viewing thin lineweights in Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
After reading several posts here, I believe that a solution to my problem will be to turn off the "enhance thin lines" options in the Page Display Preferences.
However, I am currently running Acrobat 7.0, and don't seem to see it there - is this a solution only for those running Acrobat 8.0 or later?
If so, could anyone help in figuring out how to essentially do the same thing in Acrobat 7.0?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Melodie.

There may be a better chance to get a reply if you ask in the Acrobat forums (this is the Adobe Reader forum).

  • CS5 Smart Guides: Can't Turn Off?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to turn off the smart guides in CS5. The menu item is unchecked; turning them on and then back off again does nothing.
Is this a known issue? Operator error? Something else?

    Wow that was quick.
    In reply to:
And how do you figure turning off frame edges is going to make it LESS likely that you'd move the wrong object?
Well it wasn't in previous versions and now it is. Therefore I can gauge my performance based on previous versions.
For example at this moment I have a 2 sided A4 brochure that has to be at the printer by the morning. The job is for a surf company. The file contains a place illustrator file of a pretty complex illustration. There are photos and text boxes and on top of that I have several cut and pasted vector files from Illustrator as part of the theme that I need editable so I can change colours, gradients and transparencies. So all up there is a lot going on. I have quite a few more layers than usual, so that I can lock layers to prevent the "smart highlighting" happening. But in the design process I need a lot of elements active to be tweeked to get the file the way I want it to look.
Now I have a new mac with lots of RAM, but still when you have a complex file with lots of stuff going on, and you want to zoom in and change something quickly because the client who is sharing screen with you on skype wants to put a gradient fade behind a some text to give it some pop... which then makes a millisecond of redraw time happen and your mouse is also loaded to place an image at the same time into a frame, I have found that when you are moving your mouse across the page, while the "smart frame edges" function is occurring, the highlighted frame sometimes will dump the loaded image or eye dropped colour into an unintentional frame or element. It doesnt happen all the time but it is enough to make you want to write in a forum like this. I do this kind of work enough to know it is stifling the creative process. If I was designing a catalogue with a photo on one side and a description on the other there wouldn't be as much of a concern.
Sorry if the spelling is bad its almost 2am and I still have about an hour to go.
