Turn off permanent backlight under F5 key on Spectre x360
Is there a way to disable the persistent backlight under the F5 key on HP Spectre x360 notebooks? TO CLARIFY, I'M NOT ASKING HOW TO DISABLE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE F5 KEY OR ANY OTHER FUNCTION KEYS. I just would like to know how to TURN OFF the PERMANENT light underneath the F5 KEY. It is extremely bright and distracting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mac book pro,
Turns off and goes under protection, sometimes without any specific motivation, but most of the time when an External monitor is pluged-in.
I use it when I work with final cut pro, and this problem it's becoming huge and changing my workplans....
It can turns off also 10 times in two hours.
In many forums I read that the CPU temp could be the problem, but I've checked it and It's always around 62°-68°....
In some others they say that the new RAM could be the problem too.
Is anybody able to help me? (Underneath you can check the Panic Report and my mac informations)
Thank you so much.
Antonio

is it possible to "turn off" the backlight of the screen?
finding it very difficult to watch a dvd for example as I get very poor contrast and dark/blacks
adjusting the brightness hasn't solved the problem and I can't find a "contrast" function anywhere?
is this possible to adjust at all?"Won't it become almost unviewable without a backlight?"
I know what you mean, the question was really whether you can adjust the contrast, it's fine when you're doing any other task / web etc but I only noticed the poor quality when trying to watch a film on "real" dvd. otherwise it's all fine.
BSteely's response pretty much confirms we have to live with it. Maybe this screen should be just a little smaller 12inch would be better probably! -
Turn OFF the default F14 = Brightness key?
Apologies if this covered elsewhere, I’ve been going round in circles here and on my own Mac!
I want to turn OFF the default F14 = Brightness key.
I use my own quick keys in Photoshop and it won’t let me overwrite the F14 Brightness for an action I’ve set up. It is driving one nuts!
Thanks…You could try this app. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11127
it should let you program all the f-keys the way you want. -
ipod nano 6 gen hangs when turning off the backlight. That is, it does not respond to button presses on the touch screen. He also has just a white screen instead of the desktop display. Tried to rearrange the screen from another Ipod nano, but nothing came of it - all the same ... What should I do?
Hi Rc_Drifter,
Welcome to the Support Communities! The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano. Restoring the device may resolve the backlight issue as well.
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3474
Display shows a white screen
Try putting the iPod into disk mode:
Reset the device (press the Sleep and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the display turns black—about eight seconds).
When the display turns black, hold down the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the device enters Disk mode.
While the device is in disk mode, sync it to iTunes and try to restore.
I hope this information helps ....

Is there a way to turn off permanently that annoying tick box for reopen windows when you log back in PLSSSSSSSSS
Nope.
But you can turn off "Resume." For that and some other things you may stumble over, see Changes in Lion from Snow Leopard. -
Turn off media player (or media keys) on 6350 ?
I have a 6350 and have loaded media (music files).
It seems that the media player is always 'On'. That is, any time I have the phone closed and press the 'play' key, a song starts playing. This is a problem because it sometimes starts playing while the phone is in my pocket.
I read the manual. It seems that the 'media keys' can be looked along with other keys on the phone if I lock the keypad. This is inconvenient and overkill for my needs.
Is there a way to do either of the following:
1) Lock the media keys only?
2) Turn off the media player so that I would need to turn it back on in order to play a song?
Thanks. The keys are meant to work like that. The media player is off (s40 doesnt have background app running capability). However the media keys were meant so that you can immediately start playing music with one click, just like on xpressmusic phones.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks. -
Turn Off Vibration When Pressing Menu Key
A user suggested unchecking haptic feedback to turn off the vibration when you touch certain keys. I did not work or maybe we are talking about two different vibration functions of the Droid 2.
When you press any of the four function keys at the bottom of the device (e.g. Menu, Home, Back, Search key) or swipe right to unlock, the device does a small vibration. Is it possible to turn that feature off?unimatrix001 wrote:

Are you sure you are looking in the right area? I believe the one you are looking for(May be as above since it has "blur" integrated) should be under
Menu button --> Sound Settings --> Haptic Feedback (this one may be different due to Ninja Blur)
there should also be one for the android keyboard
Menu button --> Language & Keyboard --> Android Keyboard --> Vibrate on keypress. -
Udev rules to turn off keyboard backlight on Asus UX32VD AFTER login
Hi,
I would like to turn off the keyboard backlight everytime my laptop starts.
I looked at :
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/As … _Backlight
So I created a rule :
/etc/udev/rules.d/kbd_backlight.rules
SUBSYSTEM=="leds", ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="asus::kbd_backlight",DRIVERS=="asus-nb-wmi", ATTR{brightness}="0"
It works quite fine, after the boot the keyboard turns OFF.
But at GNOME login it goes ON again.
I found this :
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ba … ht_service
and masked
systemctl mask systemd-backlight@leds:asus::kbd_backlight.service
No more success...
On grep later I masked this one :
systemctl mask sys-devices-platform-asus\x2dnb\x2dwmi-leds-asus::kbd_backlight.device
Nothing new.
On more grep and I commented this :
/lib64/udev/rules.d/99-systemd.rules
# SUBSYSTEM=="leds", KERNEL=="*kbd_backlight", TAG+="systemd", IMPORT{builtin}="path_id", ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS}+="systemd-backlight@leds:$name.service"
I tried to understand a bit more with this, but without success:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ud … f_a_device
udevadm info -a -p /sys/class/leds/asus\:\:kbd_backlight
Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then
walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device
found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format.
A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device
and the attributes from one single parent device.

Any idea ?
Thanks!This is driving me crazy...
At GRUB time the keyboard backlight goes on.

After some fight with systemd I could do a script (the tricky part was to start it at the good "level")

Turning off an external monitor shortcut key
is there a shortcut key-combo that will turn off the output to a video display so I can open different powerpoint shows without the audience seeing me doing so?
iBook 14" G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)It was for a 120 plate fundraising dinner and the projectors are big and can't be controlled by remote due to their location in the projection booth...bad design, but nothing I could do about it. I ended up clearing my desktop of all but the icons for the PPTs and using a relevant picture for my wallpaper. Thanks for your answers though.

I only have 238 mb of Cloud storage left for my phone. When I checked what is using all of my space, I saw that 4.2GB of space is used by Camera Roll. All of the Camera Roll pictures are in iPhoto on my Mac Book Pro and most are also archived on an external drive. Will they disappear from my phone and/or computer if I uncheck the Camera Roll for back ups? What happens if I do that and turn it back on a week from now?
They will not be erased from your phone, they will only not be included in the iCould backup anymore.
If you take many photos and videos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might notice that they take up most of your iCloud storage. To check the size of the backup on your device in iOS 8 or later, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage. (If you're using an earlier version of iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage.) Then tap the name of your iOS device. The backup size is under Photo Library.
To reduce the size of your Photo Library backup, save your photos and videos to your computer, then manually back up your iOS device. If you want to keep your photos and videos on your iOS device, you can turn off Photo Library in Backup using the steps above or purchase more storage. If there are any photos that you don't want to keep, you can delete them. Just open photos and select the item you want to delete. Then click the Trash icon and tap Delete Photo.

Updater5, how to turn off PERMANENTLY??
OK, so Adobe can't design an Enterprise solution to save their lives, we know that. We also know that their Band-aids® are usually filled with mistakes that we have to figure out how to work around their work-arounds.
They offer a way to suppress updates during the initial installation of the CS3 WP and DP. However, subsequent updates do not honor this setting and reset themselves to allow users to update their own apps. Well...we don't allow that in the enterprise as we require testing to make sure it doesn't break the hundreds of machines that we painstakingly installed WP and DP on using the Adobe flawed Enterprise deployment instructions.
So...anybody ever successfully been able to permanently disable Updater5?? And by permanent, I mean permanent. Not the Adobe "Oh, we thought you wanted to turn updates back on." way of doing things.
Their instructions for disabling auto updates only works for the CS3 apps not including Acrobat. The user can still go check for updates while in Acrobat Pro 8 even though that app is in the list of disabled apps in the AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file. It kills it for the other apps like Photoshop as "Updates..." is grayed out.
Maybe with CS4, they'll talk to Enterprise admins to get an idea of what it is we need...but thats what, 3 years from now? We need a way to turn that ANNOYING CRAP OFF!!
Anyone? Bueller? Please go to the preferences for Adobe Updater and there you can disable the Automatic updates completely and you would not be prompted for updates
Attached the snapshot for the same.

Pausing iTunes Turning Off Keyboard Backlight
got a new MacBook Pro recently and just now noticing something pretty odd...
whenever I pause a song in iTunes, be it by pressing spacebar while the application is active, hitting the actual button in iTunes, or using the shortcut keys on the keyboard itself, the keyboard backlighting always cuts off. it comes back on at random intervals, and sometimes not all.
I've even tired re-installing iTunes. it's a pretty odd problem, heh...
any ideas?
thanks! Is it doing it like this?:

I'm guessing you too have the "iSpazz" plugin installed in your iTunes folder. If so remove it and your problem will be fixed. as far as I know, there is no way to keep the plug in in there without causing this problem. Its a pain, but the only way I found is to put the plug in in there when I want to show off the keyboard, and take it out when I'm done.
Hope this helps

What are the steps to go to the backlight in settings and turn it on?
The screen is still showing. If you bring the iPod near a bright light, or shine a flashlight on it, you will be able to read the screen with no backlight.
On my 5th gen iPod nano, it is
