If you turn off Photo Stream, all photos in Photo Stream only, will be removed from your device.

  • Turning off photo stream on a lab of iPads sharing an iCloud account

I've turned off photo stream in iCloud on a lab of 30 iPads using the same iCloud account.  In the iCloud settings though, it shows that Photos is on even though when I tap Photos it shows Photo Stream is off.  What can I do to really turn it off?  Is it possible there is another device outside of the lab using this iCloud account that has photo stream turned on?

You can't save photos in iCloud that are not also on your device.  If you delete them from your phone, they will also be deleted from iCloud and they will be lost.  Normally, you would save them to your camera roll (unless they are already there), then import them to a computer as explained here: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support.  If you don't have access to a computer, you'll need to upload them to a different cloud service prior to deleting them, such as Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/84).
Another option is to save any photos in your photo stream that are not already in your camera roll to your camera roll by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos you want to save, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  Once they are in your camera roll, you can go to Settings>iCloud and turn off photo stream.  This will remove the photo stream photos from your device (and free up the space they are using) but you'll still have them in your camera roll.

  • HT201077 I have turned off photo stream on my iphone but the icloud photos dont disappear

I have turned off photo stream on my 4s 7 ios but the icloud photos are still on my phone taking up data space, HELP!

Welcome to the Apple Community Ed.
They sound like they are in the camera roll or synced from a computer, rather than in photo stream to me.
My webpage here might help you understand the various ways photos can be saved on your device and some of the advantages and disadvantages associated with each method.

  • TS4403 How do I turn off photo stream on one computer?

How do I turn off photo stream on one computer without deleting the photos out of the rest of the devices?

Go to control panel, search for 'iCloud", double-click iCloud to open the iCloud control panel for Windows, then uncheck photo stream.  If you want to keep any photo stream photos on your PC, be sure to copy them to a separate folder (outside of the photo stream folder) before unchecking photo stream.

  • HT204022 How can I turn off photo stream without deleting photos permanently?

I am wondering how I can turn off photo stream on my iPad and iPhone without permanently deleting the photos on my MacBook pro. When I try to turn off photo stream, it says it will delete my photos.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Import them into an event(s) before you delete them from photo stream

  • Temporarily turn off photo stream without losing pictures

Hi, I have photo stream turned on my iphone. I recently took a huge load of pictures and I want to review it on bigger screen and delete some. To airplay on bigger screen, I need to turn on wifi on my iphone to be on the same wifi network as my apple TV. however, as soon as I turn on wifi, my iphone will start uploading every picture (even the crap ones) to icloud and push to all my other devices, which I don't want to see happen... When i try to turn photo stream off in my iphone -> settings, it warn me that all my photo stream pictures will be deleted.... why is it so hard to temporarily disable photo stream synching? or am i missing an obvious way? thanks!

Because there is no "temporarily" turning Photo Stream off.

  • Turning off Photo Stream

If I turn off my photo stream in the iCloud settings will this erase all my pictures on my device or just my photo stream folder?  I think I know the answer, but would hate to loose all my pictures.  Thanks!

It won't erase all the pictures on your device.

  • Can't download all photos from phone to mac, should I turn off photo stream?

I took my mac air, iPhone 5, iPad 2 into the Apple store last week. We set up Photo Stream. Now I can't get all photos off my phone so that I can share them on FB. I can see them in the phone but they are only on laptop in the Stream not on hard drive

Make sure you have the iPhoto/Photo Stream preferences set to import all PS photos:
Be aware that many users are having problems with uploading photos to Facebook from inside iPhoto on their Macs.  The workaround is to export the photos to the Desktop and upload them to FB with your browser.

Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Turning off photo stream or lock it out..

I recall in previous version of the Apple TV software you need to sign in to iCloud/.Me to share and see photos through Apple TV. That's no longer the case it just lets you in without asking for a password even when signing out.
    Something of a privacy issue.
Can it be locked out or exclude Apple TV from Photostream?

I turned it on, but discovered there's a option to hide Photostream on the Apple TV menu. I don't use Photostream on Apple TV so I hid it.
    Thanks.

  • Hi, I switched off photo stream in iphone in settings and as a result those photos even got deleted in iPad. How do I retrieve them? How to use this better to avoid such stuff?

I switched off photo stream in my iphone and as a result those 1 months photos got deleted on iPad. How can I retrieve them? How to avoid this in future?

This happened because iCloud only keeps photo stream photos in iCloud for 30 days, even though your last 1000 photo will remain on your device until deleted.  Turning off photo stream deleted them from your device; reconnecting to photo stream redownloads photos from the last 30 days (as older ones are no longer in iCloud).
To keep your photos permanently, import them to your computer while they are still in your camera roll, as explained here:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  To save photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll so they can be imported too.

  • How do I stop my iphone from turning on photo stream AFTER I turned it off?

I have this problem that happens constantly and I cannot figure out a premenant solution for it. I have the Iphone 4. Since the IOS 7 upgrade, the photo stream option will not stay turned off. It seems to turn it on by itself. It will be on after a reboot or for no reason. I AM TIRED OF having going to settings to turn it off. I am thinking prehaps taking a picture triggers it to turn the photo stream on?

I'm having the same problem and I need help because i do not want pictures to go to all my devices! Have yu learned how to stop this?

i'm trying to turn on Photo Stream on my Mac, but the box to check off Photo Stream is grayed out so I can't check the box. My software is updated, and I'm using OS Mountain Lion. What should I do to turn on the Photo Steam?

what version of iPhoto? Are you logged into iCloud in the system preferences? See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US for software requirements, FAQ and trouble shooting hints
