Turn off photostream image compression?

Photo's on my iphone 5 can be anywhere from 1MB up to 4MB - especially if edited using Camera+, Snapseed etc.
I thought it would be great to share them to my PC using photostream... except the image sizes are reduced, sometimes by 75% or more. So it would appear that photostream is not to be trusted with your precious images. OK for a quick bit of sharing, but nothing else.
Is there a way to switch off this "feature" ?
For now I'm going back to the tried and tested method of plugging in a USB cable and manually copying files off.

I think the avatar pictures help a lot to visually tell apart the different users participating. Pictures are way quicker to discern than user names are.
Do you want them removed because they distract you or you find certain ones disturbing (You can easily flag those to the moderation team)?

I found this solution once before, but for the life of me can't now. In photoshop, while editing, my images are of the correct resolution. But when I save them they are squeezed on the left and right. I know this is because the "scaled" feature is enabled in photoshop. How do you turn this off?

This is just a guess but since you are editing a YouTube video frame, the pixels are not square and PS has automatically set a non-square viewing mode. This is useful if the frame you are editing will be going back into the video, but not useful if you want to save it as a still image.
There are several Pixel Aspect Ratio options on the View menu.

Seriously, if they can see it, they can grab it, if nothing
else, through a
screen capture - best things to do if you're worried about
people stealing
your images is to keep them small or watermark them.

Photostream in Usage still displaying 1.2 GB but Photostream turned off

I have turned off Photostream on my iPad, iPhone and desktop iCloud however, on my iPad in the Settings>Usage, it's still showing as taking up i.2GB. I wanted to remove Photostream to create some space. I don't use it anyway. I have tried rebooting my iPad etc. but it's still showing up. Am I doing something wrong or is there a trick I am missing? As mentioned, it's diabled everywhere else. It's not showing up on my iPhone which has the same settings.

Yes, unfortunately I cannot use the space. I tried to download a film and it said I didn't have enough space, so I had to delete a few apps I wasn't using, when in theory I had plenty of space as that 1.2 GB isn't "real".
Re-enabling Photostream has made no difference either. I have reset in iCloud.com, re-enabled on all devices (iPd, iPhone and PC) and still no difference. Oddly, though, my iPhone is correctly showing the right usage (i.e. none) for Photostream. iPad still shows as 1.2 GB!
It's most frustrating.

Ok you can reset the stream from www.icloud.com
Goto www.icloud.com
Login with your iCould username and password.
and login
Then click on your name in the top right hand side of the screen next to sign out,
it opens a window Account details with Language, Time Zone, Advanced
Select Advanced - Then click Reset Photo Stream. and confirm, the stream will be reset and totally deleted
I still think you should be able to remove individual pictures though, a blured image etc is a problem

How can I turn off the preview (overview) automatically executed when I launch Image Capture?

I love using Image Capture, but every time I launch it, it automatically does a previes of my scanner's flatbed. Most of the time, I don't use the flatbed. I use the feeder to scan multiple pages.
My question is this: Is there any way to turn off the automatic preview (overview) that Image Capture executes when it's launched?

Thank you so much for your response. I had these photos backed up on iCloud but, had I not, its good to have an alternate solution as the one you suggested. Actually, I went to the Apple store today and yes, you are absolutely correct Restoring in iTunes will result in permanent loss of photos unless backed up somewhere such as iCloud or other solution. Well, what they did was restore the phone in itunes ( I did not have iTunes downloaded to my computer which is why it did not work when I went to do it myself, I needed to go to the iTunes site and go to the download iTunes button because my windows based HP laptop does not come with itunes already downloaded). This retoration process took a while and I was forced to upgrade to the latest 7.1 iOS software which I was not too happy about -sometimes you like the way things work now :-) Anyhow, they said this restoration request happens as a result of a software update (which I was NOT in progress of an update or doing an update) or sometimes when you remove the power cable too quickly from the iphone (which I do not recall doing this either but...). Since I had backed up on iCloud all of the photos were downloaded back on my iphone 4s. Best of all was that my phone was back up and runnning and there was NO CHARGE at the apple store for this service of restoring my phone. Well, I just wanted to share the results and I appreciate all the responses and support I received. Thank you kindly.

Turning off image attachment previews in emails

How do you turn off in Apple Mail 4 the ability to not preview attached imgaes in Apple Mail?
I have lots of emails coming through to me with images attached and it just slows thinks down having to preview them inside the email very time.

I assume you mean that you are accessing your Gmail as IMAP, but since it can be either, please confirm which? If as IMAP, then what are your selections in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced regarding keeping copies of messages and their attachments for Offline viewing? This would have an impact on how much response time is needed to read a message with large attachments. Otherwise, it should not take any time to display a message, even with many photo files?
There is not a way to turn off View In Place before displaying the message.

Okay, I figured it out.
I would clear the cache while the page was still being viewed in a window, and for some reason that didn't actually clear the cache. So that's the browser's being a good little browser, but it's annoying because it should clear everything.
iWeb also has a problem in that is tells pages to cache forever, so the browsers are only doing what they're told.
Close the window, clear the cache, good to go.
