Turn off read receipts on OS X 10.9.4

I turned them off on my phone, however they're still active on my computer. What can I do to turn them off? I tried Messages > Preferences... but came up with nothing

You're on the right track, it's Messages > Preferences, then Accounts > [your iMessage account]. Then there should be a check box for Send read receipts.

Turning off "Read Receipt" response for EIC email

Hi,
We would like to turn off the email "Read Receipt" indicator to the sender that the receiver had read an email. None of the settings on the EIC Email profile do this. Can anyone advise if there is another setting and where it is?

My guess is your getting an automatic response from the receiving server and then one from the email client when the message is read.
You could also be getting a receipt from their phone and desktop mail clients.

Messages beta: turn off Read Receipt

When I first installed Messages beta, I enabled Read Receipts. But I'm 99% sure that it's causing messages to appear as Read even when I'm away from my computer. Perhaps this is a status issue, since I don't have it set to timeout. In any case, I'd like to disable Read Receipts on the Mac, but I don't see it in Preferences or other menus. Where could it be?
I guess the solution would be to uninstall Messages beta and reinstall it. But I bet there's a hidden pref somewhere.

It is strange as I don't remember the setting on Read Receipts during the set up process.
As I launched it it just asked for an Apple ID.

Cannot turn off delivery receipts.

I turned on delivery receipts, accomplished my purpose, but cannot get them turned off. I unchecked the appropriate box Options/Mail/Tracking
to no avail. I am using Outlook 365 through a Exchange Server 2007 account.

If you don't want to receive these read receipts, you can create a transport rule to delete them. Here is the transport rule for your reference:
Apply this rule if the message type is Read receipt.
Do the following...Delete the message without notifying the recipient or sender.

Can't turn off reading disability

Hi, I accidentally turned on the reading disability feature on my iMac on and I can't seem to turn it off again. The screen moves around as I move my cursor around and everything stays enlarged on my monitor. Does anyone know how I can turn this off? I accidentally hit some keys on my keyboard. I also tried restarting and shutting down my computer but it didn't work.

Just to add to what Roam said about the (⌃Control / Mouse scroll ball) zoom feature.
There is also a zoom feature in the *Universal Access Preference* for Seeing, where if you press ⌥⌘8 it turns the zoom feature on and off. When the feature is turned on the ⌥⌘= keys will zoom the Display in and the ⌥⌘- keys will zoom it back to normal.

Acrobat 7 Accessibility - Turning Off Reading

I am using Acrobat 7.0.5 Professional. Recently, the program began automatically launching the dialog box to read a document out loud each time a new document is opened.
I searched the help files and cannot find any way to turn this feature off.
Anyone know how this works.

I rechecked all of these.
View > Read Out Load lets me read the document now.
Edit > Preferences > Reading sets the criteria to be used in reading when it is triggered.
But unless I'm being blind, I don't see anything about automatically reading a document when opened.

How can I turn off Reading List?

When I click a link, I just want to go to the link. I do NOT want links piling up in a list. What happened to right click, open in new tab?

E-mail read receipts - how to make them optional

Hi,
Is it possible to turn off "read-receipt" by default, or else to be asked, prior to such receipt being sent, for an activesync based e-mail account?
When using the e-mail account from my (work) laptop, Exchange read receipts are 'off', always. When reading any mail 'first' on the Q10 though, then any read receipt requested by the sender is sent, automatically.
I cannot find any (obvious) setting on the handset to toggle read receipts on/off.
(I imagine this is BB10, rather than handset specific?)

Question about read receipts?

Scenario: If I have my read receipts off and I opened a message at 7am and turn my read receipts on around 10am, will the other person see I read their message at 7 or 10?

The person will not see you read any iMessages that were sent prior to 10am.

My storage on my iCloud is almost full, and I turned off some apps that I don't want to be backed up. So if I press the button delete back up, is it going to delete all of the apps that I'm backing up, or just the ones that I turned off?

I keep on getting E-mails that notifies me that my storage is almost full. I don't want to press that button until my question has been answered.

It will delete the entire backup, so you'll have to back up again after doing this. The new backup will only contain the apps (and other data) that you have selected and omit the ones you turned off.

HT3577 How can I turn off the text editing feature on an iPhone 4 with iOS 6.x - when my Mom taps the phone, it always brings up copy. It does not do this for me so I am assuming it is the way her disability forces her fingers to hit the screen.

My Mom has tremors and when she uses her iPhone and taps to select, the way she hits the keyboard causes the copy selection to appear. It is not an issue with her phone because it does not do this for me. I would like to shut off the double tap feature. I have already tried Settings/General/Accessibility/Home speed typing = slowest.

The editing menu doesn't come up when you double tap. It comes up when you press and hold. It can't be turned off.

Airport Mode vs. Turning Off Wi-fi and Bluetooth

This may seem like a dumb question, but is turning Airport mode on, on an iPod Touch 4G the same as turning of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Sometime I need to turn on/off my Wi-Fi and it is more convenient to just flip on the Airport mode switch. I'm just wondering if it will be any different.

Yes. Turing airplane mode on will turn both BT and wifi off. With AP mode on you can turn on wifi and BT. with them on you can then switch AP mode off and noting happens. If you then switch AP mode on, both BT and wifi will be turned off.

4 year old PC turns off when new iPod Nano is plugged in

I have an older PC running Windows XP. I just bought a new 8G iPod Nano. When I attempted to plug it in to my computer for the first time, the computer abruptly turned off (it did not go through the shut down process) and I was unable to turn it back on for several minutes. Now the compuet is back on and appears to be functioning normally. Can anyone help me with this problem? I have not yet tried to plug in the iPod again. Thanks.

My guess is that it is a compatibility problem with older or aftermarket ear buds. My daughter has a 6th generation Nano and does not have this problem but keep in mind she is using the ear buds that came with the 6th Generation Nano. With the replacement program they are not sending new ear buds. I just did a test with my daughters 6th Generation Nano using an old set of aftermarket ear buds I had in my desk and I was able to duplicate your issue. I then used the ear buds from my Iphone 4s and did not have an issue with the Nano going to sleep and the music turning off.

When mirroring - can I turn off the monitor on my Mac...?

I just set up my MacBook Pro with my AppleTV and everything is working nicely. However, It would be even better if I could get my computer monitor to turn off while I'm viewing on my TV.

Actually, the answer is YES!
Thought it best to post here again because I discovered that while Mirroring, turning off the monitor on my MacBook Pro is possible (despite a few replies here that it cannot be done). Its super easy to do, just dim the monitor until it goes completely dark, and continue to use your computer as it is displayed on the TV. The trick is not to close the monitor down, that will put the computer to sleep.
While I was hoping I could also achieve the same result while my MacBook is connected to my Cinema display, it seems the dimming capability on the Cinema display is limited to getting very dim, but not turning off completely.
I'll keep researching this some more and if I have any more updates I will post back to share -- hopefully there are other users who will find this info helpful.
For now, I will be using my TV as my primary display while my MacBook Pro's monitor is turned off.

Cant turn off computer

I just upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 and since then I cant get my computer to turn off. I press the "shut down" or "restart" option and it takes forever, it never turns off, I've left it there for like 20 min and nothing!!! the only way to turn it off is by holding the power button for a few seconds.

I tried putting my computer to sleep, and it goes to sleep and wakes up with no problem. I deleted the file, but I still have the same problem.
I also forgot to mention that my computer wont shut off even when i just turned it on, opened no programs, and try to shut it down.
Also, when all my desktop's icons dissapear after pressin shut down or restart, the arrow of the mouse appears there, no circle (as if trying to close some program), i can move the arrow everywhere, i tryed pressing commandoptionesc but it doesnt open any window.The comp just wont turn off
