Turn off the wireless??

EveningNew to forums and new to Sky (came from BT after many years) so hello to you all. Not going to knock Sky (yet) but just have a quick question; On my old BT router you could turn off the wireless signal between certain times which made it easier for us as the children could not access I-Pods etc after lights out but still use the broadband cabled into my PC. Is anyone aware of a similar feature on the Sky router - I have had a quick look but cant find anything... Thanks in advance

Hello All,
Thanks for getting in  touch.
@Gary0903, great to see that you have joined Sky Broadband. Thanks for your feedback with regards to the timer, I can certainly pass this feedback on to the relevant team. In the meantime it would require you to manually go in to turn the wireless on and off using the details that stantheman2k12 supplied.
@SkyMJR, welcome to Sky have you managed to run through the steps that stantheman2k12 has supplied to turn the wireless off at certain times? There is no current timer that can be set to do this automatically.
@deecorbett123, I hope you have managed to turn the wireless back on. As caesarome has mentioned you required a direct connection to the router to allow access the router status page (192.168.0.1) to turn the wireless back on.
If you have any further queries please get back to us.
Thanks,

    Hi,
You may not have a wireless network adapter.
If it is not in Network Adapters and you have no Device Manager errors or disabled devices under Network Adapters then that would be the case.

  • Is it possible to turn off the wireless signal on the Airport Extreme?

Is it possible to temporarily turn off the wireless signal being emitted from an Airport Extreme whilst still remaining connected to the internet via ethernet? If so, what do you need to do to turn off the wireless signal?
Also, how strong is the wireless signal? If placed in a basement of a residential property, is it likely that the signal would reach two floors above?
Thanks very much for your answers.

Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located just under the row of icons
    Wireless Mode = None
Update to save your new settings
You can reverse the process to turn the wireless back on when you are ready.

It's just not possible to accurately predict wireless performance in advance for any installation. A guess would be that the signal will be very weak, and likely unusable, but you won't know for sure until you try it out in your house.

  • Can I turn off the wireless and use the wired connections at the same time?

Can I turn off the wireless and use the wired connections at the same time?
This is to avoid transmission when I work without the need for wireless

Yes, you can. Just open the web interface of the router. On your browser type the IP address of your router, usually http://192.168.1.1 go to wireless tab and disable it.

  • Can I turn off the wireless on my Time capsule? Could I then use it as an XHD backup on a different wifi router network?

I would like to turn off the wifi on my Time Capsule, use another, more powerful router, but still use the TC  as an XHD for backing up my files. Is this possible?  thanks.

The TC is now and always a network drive.. but there is no reason you cannot turn off wifi in the TC and use it plugged into another router. The only thing I would say is that using the TC wireless can still be worthwhile.. if you can get it close enough to the computer, then either ethernet or TC wireless will prevent the backups from slowing your network..
If you are going to use it on only a single computer, you can plug it in by ethernet and setup as a secondary network.. but IMHO you may as well buy a USB drive and be done with it. The external drive is faster and more reliable for backups than the network drive.

  • Is it possible to turn off the wireless networking feature?

As I don't want to have a wireless hotspot 24/7 at my place and would prefer to conserve power when that function isn't needed, I'd like to know if the Time Capsules allow users to turn the wi-fi broadcasting on and off. Or is it just an always-on kind of machine?

"Do you mean simply connected via firewire or USB?"
You would need to have your computer connected to the Time Capsule via Ethernet.
"But, is there no way to save your original settings so they needn't be re-entered when re-starting wireless?"
No, this is not possible. When you change the wireless settings to "None" from "Create a Wireless Network" using Airport Utility, the Time Capsule requires an update and restart for the new setting(s) to take effect. The old setting is lost. Same thing when you change from "None" to "Create a Wireless Network"

  • WRT54GL - needs a set-up change or how can I turn off the wireless connection ?

I've got this router configured as a switch and it's working great with one exception:
The Wireless network, when turned on, takes precedence over the ethernet network (which is 2x faster).
Is there any way within Windows to be able to switch the wireless network "off".
When I try to click "disable" on the wireless network connection status message box, I get:
"It is not possible to disable this connection at this time. This connection may be using one of more protocols which do not support plug n play, or it may have been initiated by the user or the system account"
I guess I have to turn it off at the router level then ? See, I only really needed wireless to talk to my stupid wireless-only HP Envy printer....which I only need to do intermittently.

Try to disable the wireless adapter on the Device Manager window. Go to Start > Control Panel> System > Hardware > Device Manager > Network Adapters. You can then right click the wireless adapter there and select disable. If it is still not possible, you’ll have to access the router then and disable the SSID Broadcast.  See below:

  • Turning off the wireless aspect of the westell 7500

I have a westell 7500 modem/router. I have been using it for wireless connection for the past year. I have recently found out that the connection using  WEP and even the WPA security codes are not safe or rather those codes are easy to crack. I would now like to connect to my computer using only a hardline connection. My question is about the westell 7500 modem/router.  Is there a way to disable the wireless signal so it is not active while still using the hardline connection to the modem ? Or do I need to buy a different modem altogether without wireless capabilities?
    Thank you for your help.

I am not sure, but I believe so.
#1 In the router go to Wireless Setup.
#2 Check Disable Wireless and press Apply.

  • I cannot turn off the wireless synchronization on my Blackberry 8300 device. Please help!

I have tried and tried everything I can think of.  I have read many posts on this topic already and nothing is helping.  Does anyone know how to do this?   I have gone to the address book, then option, but there is nothing that says wireless synchronization.  Even my device, when I searched on it, tells me to do this, but it's not there.   I am wanting to be able to see my address book on my desktop but I cannot do this without turning this off.  Thank you for your help.

ok, IF you have all your data up-to-date in Outlook, I will recommend deleting your BB Address Database and re-syncing with Outlook. But you must first have Outlook completely up to date. See below:
(ignore the mention of the calendar below... this just works the same way)
If you are having errors in your Calendar or Address Book on your BlackBerry, and you wish to delete the entire Calendar (or Address Book) database on your BlackBerry, follow the directions below. Make certain you have a good copy of your Calendar or Contacts elsewhere, as this procedure will complete delete ALL Calendar entries and/or Address Book entries on your BlackBerry.
    1. Open Desktop Manager on your PC.
    2. Open up Backup/Restore > Advanced.
    3. From Advanced you'll see a split pane screen. The left pain is what is going to be backed up from your device and the right is a list of the currently existing databases.
    3. Highlight on the right side your Address Book database (or your Calendar database) and click the arrow in the middle pointing to the left. This will copy the information over and prepare it for back-up.
    4. Once the back-up has completed, hit the Clear button at the bottom to erase and clean out the entire address book database (or Calendar database).
    5. After it's finished, it will ask you if you want to save the back-up you've created, say yes and check the device to make sure the address book (or calendar) has been properly cleared out. Now, resync the necessary contact information and you should be set to go.

  • Turn off only wireless card in AEBS?

The drop down menu 'Wireless Mode' in AirPort Utility has an option to turn off the wireless. Does this physically switches off the wireless card in the AEBS so it doesn't use power anymore and subsequently doesn't emit anything through the antenna? Could someone please shine a light on this? Thanks very much - Jos

So, I opened the thing and did some measurements which indicate the card is almost completely shut down except for appr. 15 mA power still flowing. Here are the results:
With card installed, WLAN and LAN (3 x) connected:
    - starting up: 370 mA (yellow LED steady)
    - started up: 450 mA (yellow LED flashing)
    - wireless mode OFF: 530 mA (green LED steady)
    - wireless mode ON 10 % power: 700 mA
    - wireless mode ON 100 % power: 710 mA
Without card, WLAN and LAN (3 x) connected:
    - starting up: 360 mA (yellow LED steady)
    - started up : 420 mA (yellow LED flashing)
    - online through W/LAN: 520 mA (green LED steady)
So, the card burns about 180 mA @ 12 V (2,2 W) which is appr. 1/4th of the total power consumption.

  • Turning off Frontier wireless

I have my Airport Basestation (2nd Gen) connected via ethernet to Frontier supplied wireless router. I don't access the frontier router wirelessly and don't want the neighbors accessing it either. Is there a way to turn off wireless on the Frontier router and have it only broadcast via ethernet to my basestation?

Sorry, I was trying to save you some time, but you seem to not want to do that.
Your question was not "a general setup question" at all if you are asking about a specific setting on a Frontier product.
Would you ask how to turn off the wireless on the AirPort Extreme if you were on the Frontier support forum?
Hopefully, another user will answer here, but I hope you are patient....as your wait will likely be long.
A few minutes on the forum for Frontier, and you will have your answer. The link for Frontier is below, in case you do not have it. Have a nice day.
