Turn Off vs Full Power Off?

So I have both these options when I go to 'Turn Power Off' in the menu. But I'll be honest, I don't see any difference between the two. The only thing that is different is 'Turn off" tells me it will turn back on when my alarm goes off.
Is this right?  Because I would have assumed 'Full Power Off' would have closed any apps I had running, like Facebook for exampe which sometimes freezes forcing me to reboot.

The BlackBerry has two power-management modes:
If you use the Power button, or click Turn Power Off on the Home screen and select Turn Off, your BlackBerry will turn itself on again when the alarm activates it or when it is set to turn on automatically.
If you select Turn Power Off on the Home screen, then select Full Power Off, your BlackBerry will not turn on again until you press the Power button.
So if you use "Turn Power Off" and you set an alarm to get to work in the morning, you will have to bring donuts to everyone.

  • Battery charge wise - Turn Off vs Full Power Off

If I turn off my device with Full Power Off, will it charge faster than if I just use Turn Off?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No.  But even if it does, the difference will be negligible.  I would suggest using the Turn Off as opposed to Full Power Off because certain features, such as alarm, will still work with Turn Off but will not with Full Power Off.
    I hope that helps you.

  • No full power off option

sorry if this has been posted before
ok so im new to bb ive had my bb storm for few days now got to grips with it the only problem is that when i turn it off it goes in to a sort off stand by mode ive search other forums and theres now answer as people say this is in stand by mode click full power off option but the problem is i have no full power option they also say you can enable it to turn off and on at certain times and if you enable it when you turin it off it will then ask say full power odd or power off , but when i press the buttin to turn it off it says "!turning heldheld off press any key to abort" i dont press anything and the screen goes black so i assume its off but when i turn it bk on in the morning some battery has gone and it comes on within half a second so there for this isnt full power off mode, my problem is i would like it to full power off not just stand by but there is no option for this does anybody else have this problem or is there a way to get it

auto on and auto off doesn't do anything that manual off by holding down the end button.
The OP is right, there is no way to shut the phone off fully except to remove the battery.   If you do this, you will see it takes a rather long time to start again which is why there is no other means to shut it down - nobody would want to.
The difference in power level doesn't represent actual power consumed (though I'm sure that some small bit does).  How the circuit measures the current levels of the battery is less than precise and so the phone "thinks" it is lower than it was.
Really, don't fret about this.  If you leave your phone off for a week or so, consider removing the battery but that's really all.

  • CMOS clears after full power off

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my MSI-6547 (645 E Max-U).
Whenever I have a full power off (power cord disconnected, general power failure) the CMOS settings are lost. The CMOS battery is OK, I have taken it out, measured 3.1 V, contacts are clean.
Any advice on what's wrong with the mobo?
    Thanks.

Can try changing the jumper for JBAT1 to see if the problem remains.
Hello NovJoe, I am not quite sure what you mean here? Clearing the CMOS with the jumper is not necessary as taking full power off already does clear the CMOS (and causes a warning at POST about wrong memory size and low battery power). I then go into BIOS and indeed load the optimal settings and can then continue normal startup.
Why would clearing the CMOS with the jumper have any effect?
    Thanks for your trouble.

  • IMessage problem | turns off after phone power off

Each time I power off my phone or it runs out of battery iMessage switches to off setting and asks me to send the activation text message. This leads to extra cost each time I close my phone. The phone also asks me for my itines password each time it is turned on.

    Hi
The powersaver software is not responsible at all for this behaviour.
The BIOS is good that you checked because this would be the first thing I would recommend.
Next step is however not so funny : service.
That's the only thing to do - the machine should absolutely be able to keep working when you unplug it if the battery has enough capacity.
Software-wise there is nothing you could do since it is not involved in theese pretty low level things.

  • HT1766 automatic backup to icloud what does switched off mean? power off?

automatic backup says phone should be 'switched off'. does this mean short close at the top or power off?

I just reviewed HT1766 (the document where you originated your post) and even used the browser search feature but nowhere could I find the words "switched off."
The only statement I could find was: "Automatically backup your camera roll, accounts, documents, and settings when this iPhone is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."
The above statement does list the correct requirements for automatic backup. Where are you seeing "switched off"?

  • Full Power Shut Off

I just got a BlackBerry Bold 9650.  I can't find the full power off.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

To power off the BlackBerry Bold, go into the settings and click the Power off Icon and click Full Power off.  Another option is to press and hold down the end call key until the device powers off completely. To turn it back on, press the same key.

  • My iPhone 4s will randomly pop the power off menu on

So just out of the blue my I phone 4s is trying to turn it self off and my power off button does not work. Please help

I'm having a similar problem with my iPhone 4s.  Just loaded all of my play lists onto it and it shuffles the order on some playlists but not others.  It is not a matter of shuffle being selected anywhere.  In fact when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and look my play lists in iTunes, they appear in the correct order.  When I view my playlists on my iPhone, some appear in a random order.  The suggestions to turn shuffle off have not helped since nowhere does shuffle appear to be on.  And I have the "shake to shuffle" turned off as well.  I listen to a lot of continuously mixed music so these randomizations of my playlists are very problematic.  I didn't have this problem at all with my iPod Touch. Should I just try deleting the troublesome playlists and reinstalling them?

  • Satellite M60/M55: Turns off after disconnecting power

Reposting because the original threads are locked.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15285&messageID=55746
My M60 sometimes turns off immediately after unplugging mains power (either the AC mains or DC plug from the laptop), instead of resuming on battery power, although the battery is full.
The battery is OK & the laptop starts up regularly on battery power after pushing the on switch.
The Toshiba Power Saver seems to work OK & I have the latest BIOS.
I always save my work before disconnecting, but I still don't like this behavior & would appreciate some good advice.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19092
Satellite M55 turns off when disconnecting power cable when disconnecting my laptop from the outlet rather than switching to the battery, my laptop will often simply turn off even though the battery is completely charged. Other times things work as they should.
I had the motherboard replaced for another reason and was fairly surprised to notice the problem after replacement (but without OS reinstall).
The main suspect is the TPS and its driver; some months ago a new version was released on Toshiba support site for M60 (though the file dates are not fresh, and I believe I have installed this version earlier).
So, I removed both TPS and TPS driver. I tested many times and it did not happen again. Not even when I reinstalled them.
While testing I turned off HD write caching to avoid file corruption problems (but this slows down HD operation, most notably hibernation).
I'm not sure if this actually works because also earlier the computer would shut down just occasionally, not every time. But this may be a clue in case you have this problem. If you do, please test and report the result, no matter what the outcome is.

What to say dude. The problem is that this issue happens ONLY sometimes and therefore its not easy to locate the real reason for such shutdowns.
However, I would try to provide some useful hints but first of all it would be useful to know how old your battery is.
Fact is that old and stressed batteries lose the own performance very quickly.
My battery is about 3 years old and my notebook would run on the battery for about 10-20 seconds even though its fully charged. The performance is simple very weak!
At the other hand the issue could be related to the faulty power supply electronic on the board
As you see its not easy to say whats exactly wrong and as already suggested in the other threads (locked) you should ask a technician for a notebook check.
The guys could run some diagnostic tests and could locate fault.
    Best regards

  • Why does iPad suddenly turn off at 40% power and the power bar is almost gone.  Then when I plug it in the power bar goes back up to 40%

My iPad has suddenly started turning itself off at 40% power as indicated at the top right corner..  The power bar is almost down to nothing (like 1%) when it shows up as it is turning off.  When I plug it in, the power in the top right corner shows 40%.

That happened to my sister get a new battery then wait until its full 100% then you can use it again

  • Hi I have a MacBook Pro 2011 i7 and it stays on for about 4 hours then the screen go's fuzzy and I have to turn it off by the power button has anyone had this problem thanks mike

I Have a MacBook Pro i7 2011 it stays on for about 4 hours then the screen go's all fuzzy and I have to turn it off by the power button has any body else had this problem thanks mike

My guess would also be a failling connection between your logicboard and your GPU. See 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card
For most users it starts with some random crashes and freezes like you describe it. And then it just gets worse and worse. There are still no "good" solutions, sadly. This is a hardware problem from the production.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Screen went black, and system is unresponsive. I've tried force quitting and turning power off. Hard drive starts, there's a small amount of drive activity and that's it.

Hi Jane, your info may still be there, look in the Users folder at root of the drive, how many users are there there?
It sounds like this may have happened...
Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory, (it can happen spontaneously too)...

  • My iphone 4 is stalling a lot. I've had it for a year now, I have the most current OS, it's not too full of apps, or anything like that. Many times throughout the day, I cannot switch from app to app, unless I do a complete power-off. Any ideas?

I've had it for a year now.
I have the most current OS. I snyc it to my itunes 2-3 times a week. It is only about 25% full. It stalls (I don't know if I would call it freezing) between trying to switch from app to app. I either have to let it sit there for a few minutes, or turn it all the way off and turn it back on.
And yes, I know to press the home button twice to get the bottom part activated. That's not working. I'm not sure if this is a common thing, or what with iphone 4's.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!
