Turn off window shade effect in Preview

When multiple JPG files are opened together in Preview, I can "flip" from one image to the next with the arrow keys or page up/down keys. But in Lion this "flip" is literally an animated window shade flipping effect. I find it distracting, and now it's actually intrusive because I want to quickly compare to very similar images by flipping back and forth repeatedly.
I cannot find a preference to turn off this "window shade" effect.
Any help?

You can't turn it off the Ken Burns effect, but if you set the same start and end positions for zoom and pan then it won't appear to do anything.
5.0 seconds seems to be the default display time for each picture. I can't find an option to change that anywhere.

  • How to turn off Ken Burns Effect

    Hello
    working with iMovie HD 6.0.4
I do have iMovie 11, but can't figure out how to manage more than one soundtrack (Movie and Music).
So back to iMovie HD 6.
I searched the Help section regarding turning off Ken Burns Effect.
    This is what it says:
To remove the pan and zoom effect from a photo in your movie:
Select the image in the clip viewer or timeline viewer.
Click the Media button, click Photos at the top of the Media pane, and then click Show Photo Settings.
In the Photo Settings window, deselect the Ken Burns Effect checkbox.
    Click Apply.
BUT: here is NO checkbox to deselect Ken Burns Effect.
    Anybody know what happened?
The reason I want to get rid of it is that zooming makes stills unwatchable. I it barely ok in iPhoto but in iMovie, the resolution is totally messed up.
It would be great if somebody has an idea to turn off Ken Burns Effect.
    Thank you
    Christian

Go to File/Project Properties and you can define the default behavior for adding stills to your project.
After clicking File/Project Properties, you will click on the Timing Tab. There you will see how to set the default still photo duration and the initial photo placement.
You an set it as Ken Burns, Fit, or Crop. You can always change it later in the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tools, but if you are importing a lot, it makes sense to set the default as the one you are most likely to need.

  • How can I turn off Ken Berns effect in slide shows

How can I turn off Ken Berns effect as the default in Aperture slide shows.

Depending on what theme you choose (this would be for the "Classic" theme), it should be under the "Crop" setting, which will be a choice in Default Settings when you're in your slideshow, on the right side of the window. For crop choose "Fit in Frame" or "Fill Frame" as opposed to "Ken Burns." You can also do this for individual slides, turn it on or off...
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I turn off the transition effect in Spaces?  - It's making me sick!

How can I turn off the transition effect in Spaces?
Can I do this through the terminal somehow?
I have three monitors and the transition effect is giving me motion sickness.

    Hi,
I'm afraid there does not appear to be anyway of turning off the sliding transition in spaces. There's no option to turn it off or to change it to another effect.
I use spaces all the time as I have a 15" MacBook Pro and it's incredibly useful to have a screen dedicated to e-mail and IM and another for Safari and two other screens for applications. There's just not enough screen real estate for all those windows. I think Spaces is one of the most useful user features of Mac OS X.
Maybe we should send in a feature request to Apple? I used to use some third party software to do the same before Spaces was released and it had a selection of transitions or none at all.
Personally, I'm now used to the transitions but as I don't have multiple monitors perhaps I'm being spared the motion sickness!
    Good luck.

  • Window Shade Effect

I have always been annoyed by the Mac OS X window shade effect in the "Save as..." dialog. It usually ends up hiding information in the underlying screen that I need to look at to title my "Save as..." dialog, such as date, names, titles, etc. However, I have learned to live with this annoyance.
Now I've discovered another reason to dislike that effect. I have a MacBook Pro with a 15" screen, so there is not that much screen real estate. When I go to Mail Preferences and select "Rules" there is an item named "News from Apple". Click on it and select "Edit". The window shade effect pops into action and, since there are so many rules for this item, the bottom of the window where all the buttons are located falls off the bottom of the screen and can't be seen.
I can't figure out a way to get out of this window without quitting Mail.
Is there a way to dismiss this window if the "Cancel" or "OK" buttons can't be reached?
Does this window shade effect annoy anyone else also??? As much as I hate to suggest this but, why can't this be a separate window that can be moved around the screen like in Windows?

My apologies for misunderstanding. The different applications and screens you work in on your Mac are called windows, and I thought you meant "shade" as in contrast and darkness (ie that is a dark shade of green). You actually meant a literal shade! I see what you mean now, it does look like that.
As I mentioned before, there should never be any circumstance that you are unable to see the buttons on the bottom of a window, especially on your large 15" screen. What is your [screen resolution set to|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2490#l2]? The higher up the list (and smaller the numbers,) the more magnified everything will be and consequently less screen real estate will be available. Remember, you can always reposition a window to the top of your screen so you can see the whole thing by simply dragging the menu bar (the top title bar, where the red yellow and green circles are) anywhere you like.
It is true that these sliding windows, or window shades, such as the Save as dialog will prohibit you from interacting from the main window. There is no way around this, but what exactly would you be trying to do with the main window while simultaneously saving it? It slides right back up as soon as you save it.

  • Lightroom Developer turn off Windows 8.1 itself - Developer sammuttaa koneen

Lightroom Developer turn off Windows 8.1 itself
At first, I downloaded the pictures; Import pictures work properly and I can see the downloaded image on my desktop.  Next, I press the Developer button in and the PC computer restart/shutdown!!!
Operating system is Windows 8.1 / 64 bit, RAM 16  GB, nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, with  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 card. Lightroom is installed SSD-drive (C:\) and Lightroom_Catalog is HDD drive D:\Lightroom. All my images are d:\pictures\..  folders or subfolders. What's the matter - what should I do?
    Same in Finnish
    Lightroom Developer sammuttaa koneen
Kuvat onnistuu ladata työpöydälle moitteetta. Kun painan ladatun kuvan kohdalla Developer-painiketta, koko Windows kaatuu/käynnistyy uudestaan. Muistia pitäisi olla riittävästi. Mitä tehdä, missä vika?

Hmm, not sure I completely understand now. What exactly simultaneously should mean in this context? The thing is that it seems there's no chance in getting the connection to work when I first turn on the client on my Windows computer. The other way (starting on my Linux computer) it works just fine, and I am able to connect from my Windows to my Linux anytime.
Also I'm not sure that this is the problem, cause it seems that same problem apply to connection to other computers as well (however this impression is based on a testing with just a very few tries, so I'll try to test it more soon).
    Thanks for the explaining anyway!

  • How to turn off ken burns effect in new imovie

The new iMovie---11--  how in the heck do I turn off the Ken Burns effect? Nothing against Mr Burns but.... I don't want everything to move!

  • Turning off "Ken Burns" effect for SOME photos

I see that someone has asked a similar question in the past and told that it's not possible to turn off the Ken Burns effect for some photos, but I'm hoping someone has a workaround or there's a hack...
I've made a slideshow and got the idea to "tell the story" by creating some "title" images in Photoshop elements which I've placed in between a series of photos.
These are just black backgrounds with the title (e.g. "...and the party begins", "Family reunion" etc.) in big white letters. I'm very happy with that idea
I like the Ken Burns effect for the slideshow as it adds some semi-video "action" effect, but NOT on the titles. Having the Ken Burns effect there just looks stupid, so I would like to remove it for the titles alone.
I know I can do it the other way round (go to "Settings" for the Slideshow, deselect "Automatic Ken Burns effect", then manually add the effect for all the photos I want), but with a slideshow album that's going to take ages to do!!
    Is there a better way?

Perhaps you're checking the KB button on the "main" menu for the slideshow. That actually changes only the setting for the image that is currently selected. Try using the "Settings" button and deselect the "Automatic KB effect."

  • Can't turn off Ken Burns effect

    Hi
doing a movie of some photos and can't seem to turn off the ken burns effect when i uncheck the box and click update. Any ideas? Thanks

    Two things occur to me.
First, you might just need to delete preferences and do a permissions repair. To delete preferences, shut down iMovie and trash the file com.apple.iMovie.plist located in User (the house icon)/Library/Preferences. On relaunch iMovie will replace the deleted .plist file. Before relaunching, do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac. Close down all running programs. Open Disk Utility and select your hard drive icon displayed in the left hand pane, and then click on Repair Permissions.
Second, there is a bug in iM6 that prevents any editing of a photo to which the Ken Burns effect has been applied if the trash has been emptied at any time after the effect had been applied. The solution there is to reimport the photo, and don't empty the project trash until after your project is completed.

  • Turn off Ken Burns Effect?

Hi - does anyone know how to turn off the ken burns effect? i see the option to do so in project preferences -- but it is only applying to the first photo in the series and I'd like to shut it off for all... can anyone help?
    thanks!!!
    rachel

    Hi Rachel,
Select (highlight with the yellow border) all the photos on which you wish to turn off Ken Burns. Now, on any of the photos click on the small gear icon and select "Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation" - be careful not to deselect the photos, click just on the icon. In the Viewer select "Fit" (in the top left corner of the Viewer). Click "Done" (top right corner). Now all the selected photos will fit in the frame, with no motion applied to them.
The Project Properties selection (in the Menu) only applies to photos when you first add them to your project. So, it's best to set your options there when you start a new project and before adding content to the project.

  • Raid building tip - Turn off Windows "Automatic update"

If you are running Windows and are in the software configuration setup stage of  creating your raid, make sure you have windows update NOT set to automatic.
Otherwise during your long raid building stage (in my case it took almost an entire day when I configured my raid back in June) Windows could download an update and automatically install it and keep warning you that it will reboot in "so many " minutes unless you tell it to delay rebooting.  As you know, it will keep bugging your that it about to reboot over and over again.
Fortunately I have automatic updates turned OFF on my editing machine so I have no surprise rebooting.
Since automatic update can be complety silent, you might go to bed expecting to see your raid finished in the morning, only to be surprised to find that your computer rebooted sometime during the night -- and  your raid not completed.
    Rowby

Raid rebuilding will continue after a reboot. Restarting the system will not stop a rebuild from continuing.

  • Turn off Windows Native look?

I not a huge fan of the windows native look, and I want it to look close to the mac version, like the old Safari. Can I turn off the windows native look?

    Hi guys!
I thought that I was the only one "crazy" willing to see the native Mac appearance for Safari. To be frank, I partly understand Apple. They want Windows users to use Safari and feel good on Windows. But what about those of us who love Mac and everything connected to it?
I am a fan of Mac starting from my first job at 1993 where I first saw Macintosh. Since than I admire it. Unfortunately it is too expensive for me to buy one for my home use. But I am used to using Safari and iTunes on my home PC since these products appeared on the Windows platform. I know that I will become a happy Mac owner once in a while. Meanwhile, I hope that guys from Apple read these discussion lists and at least seriously think of providing us with the ability to choose how Safari looks like. However, I believe using fonts and gray color for toolbar is not all. Have you seen the ugly small dialog box that appears when you try to add a new bookmark? And what about the "amazing" Windows scroll bar that appears if the list of bookmarks is too long? I love those dialog box sliding from the top of the window with the blue blinking default button and Apple style pop-up menu. This is how native Apple products look like and what all of us like.
I hope this was just like an experiment. Believe me, Safari with native Windows look is ugly. I was really disappointed with the appearance of version 4 when it was released. Having worked in a software industry and knowing Apple Human Interface guidelines, I just could not believe Apple released a product with such an awful appearance. Hope Apple will hear us.

  • How to turn off window animations?

How do you turn off the window animations in Mountain Lion. It feels slow and I can't start typing or deleting things until the window is finished animated. For example when in adobe light room, when I hit the delete key to delete a photo I then have to wait until the animation stops before comfirming the delete. In Snow Leopard it was seamless, much faster and it kept track of what I had typed even if the window was not up yet. Thanks for any help
