Turn off wireless on 2WIRE 2701HG-B

I want to turn off the wireless portion of my AT&T supplied 2WIRE DSL modem and hook up my AEBS so I can wirelessly extend the network throughout the building. How would I go about turning it off but still keeping it as a router to hook up the AEBS?
Thanks,
-Tim

With Time Capsule, I no longer need my 2 wire wireless network. So, more complete instructions to disable the wireless portion of the 2Wire gateway while keeping the DSL ethernet live for TC, are as follows:
+(It would seem a good idea to at a minimum make the wireless network "invisible/non-public" so that neighbors cannot see it and try to guess the encryption key. I have seen somewhere how to restrict users given access to Time Capsule network from TC files and other networked computer files. Until I get that figured out and nailed, I will enable 2 wire wireless network for guest use, but retain non-public status of it.)+
To Disable Wireless on 2Wire gateway:Access to 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway
From a Computer on network:
1. enter http://gateway.2wire.net in browser
In Resulting Window:
2. Click on o View the home network
3. Under Status at a glance Click on "Disable" Button/Confirm
To Enable wireless, repeat steps 1-3, but click on "Enable" Button/Confirm
To make network non-public (not seen by computers in casual proximity, but requiring manual entry of network name and key to access wireless network):
1. Utilize address above (http://gateway.2wire.net) to access
2. Click on _Wireless Settings_
Uncheck "Enable SSID Broadcast" Now users will have to enter the network name to access.
BTW, the default encryption key for the 2Wire wireless net work is on the serial number sticker on the bottom of the unit.
Best to record all this information for easy access when you need to enable the wireless network and provide network name and encryption key to a visitor.

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

  • Turning off wireless sync

I have been trying to turn off wireless synchronization in my black berry ever since I got it.
When I go to the helpsection in my Blackberry Desktop Software program, it says
    1. On you blackberry device, in the calendar application, Contacts application, Tasks application, or Memopad, press the Menu key > Options.
    2. If necessary, click a calendar or contact list.
    3. Change the wierless synchroization field to NO or clear the wierless synchronization check box.
    4. Press the menu key > save.
NONE OF THAT EXIST ON MY BLACKBERRY!
I mean have all the applications but there are NO wireless synchronization check box.
There is NO wierless synchroization field! I can’t find any place where it says wireless synchronization on my blackberry. I can’t synchronize my calendar at all.
This is really horrible, what kind of stupid instructions does blackberry give out?
Has anyone come across this problem and is there a fix for it?
    Solved!

    'Ello,
I have a BlackBerry Curve 9330 (v6.0.0.524, Platform 4.4.0.438).  After installing the desktop manager software and attempting to synch my device with my pc, I received a notification that I must first turn off the wireless synchronization option on my BlackBerry.  Okay, cool.  But how?
Evidently with a headache.  I tried following the directions from Research in Motion.  I tried reading the user manual.  I tried searching the web.  I tried calling BlackBerry's customer service line to get a refund on the past two hours of my life I just wasted.  But all of these attempts were in vain.  You know why?
Because there is no "Wireless Synchronization" field, that's why.
I don't know how a company manages to give its customers false instructions or no instructions at all.   I also don't know how I managed to waste yet another hour of my life on my BlackBerry.  But after playing around with  my phone, I figured it out.  And now I will share with you lovely people!
So, assuming you already set up an e-mail account to be used with your phone, here's how to wirelessly synch your Blackberry Curve 9330 with Blackberry's desktop software:
Go to Messages on your phone.  You can get there by either clicking the yellow envelope icon on the top of your screen or going into your apps and then clicking on the envelope icon.
Once you're there, scroll to the top and click on the date.
    Click on Full Menu.
Go to Email Account Management (above Spell Check).
    Click on your e-mail address.
    Click on Edit.
Scroll down to the bottom and you will see Synchronization Options.  Open it up and uncheck Contacts and Deleted items.
    Save.
Viola!  After following these steps, I could *finally* sync my BlackBerry with the desktop manager.  Hope this helps!

  • Turning off Wireless on N8

I got my N8 3days ago. For now I'm very pleased with it and it works really nice and smooth.
Now, my problem is that I don't know how to turn off wireless network, and I mean turn it off completely.  I tried everything that crossed my mind by I just can't turn it of. I go to Connections and turn it of, but it starts by itself automatically few seconds later (and I am talking about my home wireless network as well as wireless network in my office). Problem with this is that it drains battery during the time when I actually don't need to use internet at all.
So is there any way that wireless network can be stopped and then resumed when needed ?
I would be really grateful if anyone can help me with that issue.
If I've helped you in any way, a click on the White Star to the left would always be appreciated.

Ok this is the issue. It is a bug in mail app. Mail apps just over rides the settings in your connections settings. The solution is Go to mail - settings - Your account - Synchronization - set fetch frequency for everyday. Then re start your phone. Some times your phone still connects to WiFi but this time when you turn it off in connections it will turn off forever. You may need to do it again and again some times because as i said it is a bug in mail app. ( I assume that the widgets are set to offline mode, and ovi sync settings is auto sync off they may also cause the connection)
It is simply a bug, if i turn off my WiFi in connections that should override all the individual app settings and gain the priority, but there are some apps like mail which gains the priority over the system settings. Hope it will be solved in the next firmware.
I have the same settings from the beggining and the wireless keeps connecting with a specific wireless access point, i have ten access points in my list and this happens only when im in the range of this access point.
    My settings are
Mail App Synch: All Days unchecked, 20:00-20:05, None
    Widgets in offline mode
No apps set in online mode
    WLAN scanning turned off
The problem occured suddelny after adding that access point which is a common Thomson TG585v7 and it's hapening only with that acess point, it's very annoying because i have to change the security settings (like wpa key) to make it go in offline mode. I read in forums that others have also the same problem and the only solution is to move the AP, delete ot change settings.

  • Turn off wireless synchronization - Curve 9360 - Option to turn it off not present

I am attempting to synchronize my BB contacts to Desktop Manager v6 and it is advising that I need to turn off wireless sync.  I have reviewed the forum and user manual however, I simply cannot see the option to turn off wireless synchronization.  It is not present under the options.  Please help!  Thank you in advance!

Hello jamison2010 and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you are having issues synchronizing your BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 smartphone and the BlackBerry® Desktop Software.
You need to check the individual database that is being wirelessly synchronized. For example, if you are trying to do the USB wired sync with your computer and you get the message it is being synchronized wirelessly, you need to go to your BlackBerry Contacts then Menu>Options and select your contact list (most likely your email account).
If it is the Calendar then you go to the Calendar>Menu>Options and select the calendar list (which again, will most likely be your email account).
    Hope this answers your question.

  • "Turning Off" Wireless Capabilities

I just installed a wireless network built around the WRT54G2 wireless router. Everything is working fine   but I have a question. My primary computer is connected to the router by ethernet cable, so I use the wireless connection capabilities only about 10% of my computing time. I thought I recalled using an earlier model Linksys wireless router at a previous workplace that had a switch which permitted the user to "turn on" or "turn off" wireless connection capabilities. I don't see anything similar on this router. Is there a simple method for disabling wireless connection capabilities, while still keeping the router enabled for my ethernet cable connection? Thanks for the feedback.

Turning off the SSID broadcast does not disable the wireless radio! The radio will still be active. It will still send regularly send out its beacon. It just does not include the SSID in its beacon anymore.
This means: anyone in your proximity (with the right software which is freely available in the internet) is still able to detect that there is a active wireless router even though the name of the network is unknown at first.
However, any wireless communication always includes the SSID of the network. This is always in the unencrypted part of the transmission even if you have wireless security enabled. This means also that anyone in your proximity is able to capture the wireless packets exchanged. A single packet is enough to learn the name of your wireless network.
Once you know the SSID you can try to connect to the wireless router even if it has the SSID broadcast turned off. If you have no or only weak wireless security in place it is easily possible to break into your network through the wireless.
Therefore: unless you have WPA2 or WPA with a strong passphrase set up the SSID broadcast won't really protect your network from access. With WPA2 or WPA enabled turning off the SSID broadcast has little benefits if any. The disabled broadcast causes connection issues with some devices, though.
You can turn off the wireless radio by manually modifying the wireless settings. Change the option for the "Wireless Network Mode" usually set on "Mixed" to "Off". This will power down the wireless radio in the router. This will really turn off the wireless capabilities of the router.

I changed my setting pon my capsule and turned off wireless... Now I can't "find" it again! Any suggestions?

    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
    What version TC is it??
What OS are using and what version airport utility?

  • To sync WIRED, need to turn off WIRELESS feature on BB. HOW?

The Desktop Mgr says to turn off the WIRELESS feature on my Curve 8310 in order to sync with my home laptop.  On the BB, where is this nonwireless/wireless feature?  I'm trying to sync thru the USB port with a cable.  Previously this Curve was synched wirelessly to an employer's computer at a job I no longer have.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well you can do one of 2 things:
Go into the database (Calendar, Address Book, etc), hit the menu button, choose Options. From there you can turn the Wireless Synchronization Off. You can leave the settings to Off for each database that you want to synchronize with.
You can follow these steps to remove the IT policy from your phone. This will remove any polices that may still be in effect on your device when it was connected to your company's BES. Doing so will take those wireless synchronization lines off of your phone. http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Remove_IT_Policy

Hi , I am unable to turn off or on wifi/bluetooth with the f7 key(alternatiely the wireless key). wifi and bluetooth are enabled always whch i feel is power consuming when not required. the key seems to be unusable.
    netbook config is :
i3, 2gb ram, atheos ar9285 wireless lan adapter, atheos ar3011 bluetooth adapter
i have installed both the wireless drivers from lenovo support.
what should i do to correct this.

    hi Pravinrajpaul,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you're running Windows 8, pressing the Airplane Mode (F7) turns OFF both the Wireless and Bluetooth radio. If you want to turn off just the Blueooth though, you will need to do it manually by:
    1. Opening Device Manager (press Win Key+X > choose Device Manager)
    2. Expand Bluetooth Radios then right click > disable the blueooth adapter.
    3. For the wireless, choose Network Adapters under Device Manager and right click > disable the wireless module or boot into the BIOS by pressing the One Key Recovery button and under the Configuration Tab, set Wireless LAN Support to Disabled.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does turning off wireless feature inactivate the firewall?

My goal is to insert a hardware firewall between my modem and PPC Mac computer, and accordingly, plan to use the Apple Airport Extreme (AE) base station router for this purpose.  Since I don't really need the wireless feature at this time, I plan to turn off Wi-fi on AE.  Will doing so also turn off or diminish the WPA/WPA2 & WEP security firewall features of AE, or will they still work as expected with my wired internet connection?

Wireless security is not really referred to as a "firewall" in the strict sense of the word. Wireless security, or encryption, is used on your "local" network to prevent unauthorized computers from connecting to your local network.
A firewall is special software that protects all devices on your local network from devices on the Internet.  The AirPort Extreme uses a very effective NAT firewall.
If you have the AirPort Extreme connected to a simple modem, the NAT firewall is automatically enabled.

  • Turn off wireless via Windows 7, not opening Elitebook

I know that you can touch the backlit wireless icon beneath the screen to turn WiFi on/off.  However, my notebook is often in a docking station, lid down (since I use a big external screen).  Opening the lid causes the screen to flip, so I don't want to open and close the screen just to turn off WiFi.  Is there a way to turn off WiFi by navigating to some switching on Windows 7?

Then I suggest that you turn the wireless off before you dock your elitebook.
    It is five bars.
This is a Windows 7 Desktop. Left-click on the wireless icon to get this to appear. A right-click will only produce a menu with the troubleshoot and Open Network and Sharing Center options

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is there a way to turn off the wireless signal from the Apple TV. I am trying to turn off as much wireless equipment as possible. Thanks.

Yes. Connect it by Ethernet cable to your Mac / PC.
Although my wireless reception is excellent, the time taken to lay Ethernet cable through the house will be time well spent.
