  • I turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) back on per posted instructions (Relax...!) and no BT appeared. I've also lost the Organize Bookmarks option in the Bookmarks menu. I'm using a Mac 10.5.8. Restoring back to Firefox 3.6.whatever didn't help.

    Upgraded to Firefox 4.0 earlier this week (4/11/11). Have been using and recommending Firefox for years (in spite of the websites that don't work well on it) but liked very little of the new 4.0 look (flat, colorless, buttons not very visible against theme graphics...) Do like the new Zoom buttons (thank you for that!), but re-arranged all buttons immediately. Don't like Tabs on Top - changed that - and turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) on as well. Tabs shifted correctly, but no BT appeared... The Bookmarks sidebar works fine, but I no longer have Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
    Today (4/16/11), after trying to revive the BT several times, researching problem in support, trying out the App Tab (OK, but not a substitute for BT), I restored to previous version of Firefox. The window looked like what I remembered, except the BT was gone. Aaarrgh! I've done nothing else to Firefox or my Mac recently.

    yes you need the updates and patches.
    Only some of the drivers that Windows will automatically install at times
    and always make sure to insure it is using restore points
    do all the maintenance andsuch as normal
    use MS Security Essentials for AV is really top notch
    Clean disk space
    Use WinClone new program to inisure you have a restore image

    Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
    "Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
    The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.
    If you have a problem with your computer then it's best to ask a specific question so we can help better.

  • How do I get an app to launch automatically on startup?

    I downloaded an app (*.wcz) file that links to a clock on the desktop background.
    Clicking the app displays the background from http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaperclocks/ and the clock and date work.
    When I shut down and start up again, the screen reverts to the previously selected background.
    Is there any way to launch this wallpaper + clock automatically on startup?

    Hi, if the App is in the Dock, right click, choose Options>Open at login.
    Or System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window, drag the App there or click on the tiny plus icon to add it.

  • My iphone 3gs has started showing the wrong time  and date. All was fine until this afternoon when it changed.  My apps have the right time and date. However the world clock is wrong. I have to turn off the automatic time setting to get the right time.

    My iphone is showing the wrong time and date. All was well until sometime this afternoon when it changed...  to Nov 5 (2 days prior to today), and about 9 hours and some minutes before the actual time.  The world clock for my time zone shows the same wrong date and time. My calender shows the same wrong date and time.  The phone can not find my time zone any more.   The only fix I found was to turn off the automatic setting for time.  What is  happening? Ideas?

    just sorted mine went to
    settings-mail,contacts,calender-timezone support
    then turned it off then on tapped time zone and typed london
    this did sort mine

  • How do I turn off the automatic check for update on opening Firefox? I want to turn off that "what's new" page.

    How do I turn off that automatic update that always brings me to the "what's new" web page? It was interesting the first time, but now it is just an irritation. I can check for updates on my own, so I want to turn off this feature. It just started up when I upgraded to Firefox 5. I can't find a place to stop it from checking and bringing me to that web page. Also, I can't stop it from checking add-ons every single time I open the browser.

    did you check the suggestions mentioned in the article i posted in my previous post ??

  • I am returning to using firefox 4.?.....I will need to turn off the automatic software update so that it does not update back up to firefox 7 again.

    Hi, I am back again with my tweaked brain. LOL I am trying to go back to Firefox 4, which I had so much less trouble with and liked a whole lot more. I am told that after installing the older version I need to turn off the automatic Firefox software update (if enabled)........I don't know where the automatic software update is located. Can you help me? Thank you for your help.......I will check back in a little while.......GOD bless you and all that you do for others.........loving you in Christ.......<3

    You can try to clear the cache and cookies to see if that makes a difference:
    <h3>Clearing Cache</h3>
    #Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
    #Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
    #Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
    #From the details list, check ''Cache'' and uncheck everything else.
    #Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
    <h3>Clearing Cookies</h3>
    #Go to Firefox > Tools > Privacy > Remove Individual Cookies
    #Find the site (ebay.com) that's having problems and clear all cookies.
    #Restart Firefox
    Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.

    Hi Daniel,
    Try the following:
    1. Fire up System Preferences.
    2. Select Accounts.
    3. Click on the Lock at the bottom left and enter your password.
    4. Click on Login Options just above the Lock
    5. On the right ensure that Automatically Log in as: is ticked and select the account you want from the drop down menu.
    That should be it. All okay now?

  • How to set kernel parameter max-shm-memory automatically at startup

    Hi,
    We have a 11.1.0.7 Database on Solaris Sparc 10 64-bit server. We have settings of max-shm-memory as below;
    -bash-3.00# prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project default
    project: 3: default
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
            privileged      50.0GB      -   deny                                 -
            system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
    -bash-3.00# prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project system
    project: 0: system
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
            privileged      50.0GB      -   deny                                 -
            system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
    Whenever we restart the db the second one is lost;
    bash-3.00$ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project default
    project: 3: default
    NAME    PRIVILEGE       VALUE    FLAG   ACTION                       RECIPIENT
    project.max-shm-memory
            privileged      50.0GB      -   deny                                 -
            system          16.0EB    max   deny                                 -
    bash-3.00$ prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project system
    prctl: system: No controllable process found in task, project, or zone.
    So our sys admin has to configure them again whenever we restart our db. How could I do this automatically at startup without counfiguring again from command prompt?
    Thanks,
    Hatice

    Ok it is clear now. I have one more question.  When I check system I get below error;
    # prctl -n project.max-shm-memory -i project system
    prctl: system: No controllable process found in task, project, or zone.
    Document says; The reason for the message reported above is because there is no active process(es) belong to the project.
    But it is impossible for us because according to our project settings its for root user;
    bash-3.00$ cat /etc/project
    system:0::root::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,53687091200,deny)
    user.root:1::::
    noproject:2::::
    default:3::oracle::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,53687091200,deny)
    group.staff:10::::
    oracle:100::::project.max-shm-memory=(priv,53687091200,deny)
    Is it because I check with oracle user and I don't have sufficient privileges or there is something wrong with it?
    Thanks.

  • Bookmarks disapearing on startup

    I have recently had a problem with my bookmarks on Firefox startup. The problem has manifested itself in two distinct ways.
    1)My bookmarks on the toolbar are all replaced by a single bookmark, ie all of my bookmarks become bookmarks for CNN.com
    2)Individual bookmarks are missing, ie a single bookmark is missing from the toolbar or folders. The CNN or the Hotmail bookmark is just gone.
    I am able to use the restore function to replace my bookmarks, so I have not permanently lost anything, but I have to use the restore function almost every time I start up Firefox.
    Not sure if this helps or not, but OS is the current Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx) and I am using adblock and noscript addons.
    Thank you for any help you may be able to share on this!

    From your symptoms, it seems that the bookmarks and history database ('''places.sqlite''') is corrupted. The best fix is to remove this database, restart Firfefox, and import backups.
    # Ensure you have a good backup of your bookmarks. (Save one of the JSON files from before it was corrupted - see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]].
    # Follow the steps at [[Bookmarks not saved]] under the "Places database file" section

  • How to turn of the automatically screen/keylock ti...

    Hi!
    I have a E7-00 with Nokia Belle. To avoid accidentally making a call when my phone is my pocket, I can lock the keys and screen with the slide key lock switch.
    My problem is that the keys and screen locks automatically. I don’t want that, because it’s not necessary in my office or at home (the phone is just lying on the desk).
    Questions: How can I turn of the automatically screen/keylock time-out?!
    When I select > Settings and Phone > Display > Screen/keylock time-out, I can only define the length of time between 1-5 min. But I can’t turn it off!
    The slide key lock switch is sufficient. I don’t need the automatically screen/keylock. I want to choose by myself with the slide key lock.
    In advance, thanks for your help.
    iMars

    @iMars
    Probably the best you could achieve is use of application such as PocketLock where just covering the proximity sensor activates screen lock but disables auto-locking when doing so that when the sensor is uncovered again the phone automatically unlocks:http://store.ovi.com/content/35377
    Happy to have helped forum with a Support Ratio = 42.5

  • Photoshop launches automatically at startup

    Suddenly Photoshop launches automatically at startup. Probably a consequence of running the vacuum cleaner brush over the keyboard live! How can I control this option? I have found nothing related in the startup items folder.
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Nothing in System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items to do with Photoshop? That's normally the only way things start automatically.

  • HT4063 How do I turn back on "automatic uploads" to Apple?

    Having, at some point in the past, turned off the automatic error reporting to Apple, I now find that it would be a good idea if I did send the data to them.
    However, the option to turn on the automatic upload appears to be a one way route and so I was wondering if there was a command line sentance that I could use to reinstate the upload?

    Nah. Apparently, I go waylaid with this:
