Turn on Timecode overlay in Programmonitor

Hi,
I cant find any options on how to turn on the source timecode overlay for all the clips in my main sequence.
I can see the source timecode fine when I double click clips in my project and they open up in the preview window.
However I can only see the timecode of clips in my mainsequence when I edit them. Is there a way to turn the overlay on
permanently without using the timecodeoverlay effect?

For Premiere CC2014.
Click the wrench on the program monitor, turn on overlays (bottom of the list) open up overlay settings / settings, you will get this menu:
There are a number of options, you, I think want the sequence timecode

  • How do I turn off timecode burn in

I'm up to page 140 of the manual, methodically working my way through Premiere, and tried Timecode burn in. Worked well. But how do I turn it off? No explanaiton anywhere in the manual or online as far as I can find.
This timecode thing has got me confused. My GH2 hasn't got timecode as far as I'm aware. Yet timecode is appearing all over the place in Premiere. On p141 of the manual it states: "If you have the Source panel selected, the Timecode panel will display source timecode." Well, I didn't think my source had timecode, but timecode is being displayed. Why?
I'm now up to page 144, and a similar problem has appeared with In and Out points. I can set them in the Project Window, and a yellow bar appears on the clip icon, and a green bar in the Source Window, showing the extent of the In/Out setup. I can delete the In/Out setup by Control-clicking on the green bar, and then the yellow bar also disappears. That's all okay.  But I can't work out how to delete the In/Out points in the Icon in the Project Window from within the Icon, the place I originally set them up.

Timecode burn-in is an effect applied in the Timeline in order to
display clip (or sequence) timecode within the video preview of the clip.
To turn off timecode burn-in, you disable or delete the effect.
    View timecode as a burn-in

The 'Timecode Panel' is different from a timecode burn-in.
The panel can be activated by checking it in the 'Window' menu.
Your source clip's timecode will be displayed in the timecode window
whle the Source Monitor is selected or playing.
If the clip has no embedded timecode,
the counter will assume that the clip begins @00:00:00:00.

  • Timecode overlay problems

I am trying to use AME to encode low quality timecode burned in 29.97 clips from from a Sony F5 camera.
The problem is that the Timecode overlay effect has multiple issues:
The first being that it defaults to non-drop frames, so I get a slight drift in the timecode for long clips.
The second one is when I try to make 15 fps TCBI clips out of the 29.97 fps originals. The result is that the burned-in TC goes 2 times too slow because it just increment timecode by 1 frame instead of 2.
It looks like AME doesn't really read TC from the source file at each frame, but merely read the first TC and then extrapolate.
I tried to file a bug report but got an email saying that my message wasn't delivered due to a permission issue..?

Vince, 1mickey's suggestion is what I was trying to explain. Do it with just one of the tapes you are having trouble with.. if it captures like it should after being dubbed, your problem has been narrowed.
Right now you're in the diagnosis phase of the problem, it could be bad timecode or dropped frames on the tape(s) or possibly that your deck needs service for the timecode reader or a bad firewire port. Could be lots of things.
If you have ruled out all of the things that are currently being cited as causes: updating a PPC to Leopard, updating Quicktime to 7.3 updating Pro Apps Support, Installing Perian on the machine... it's a lengthy list and not everyone is having the same problems.
$500 dollars to dub a tape is ridiculous. Don't use them ever.. for anything. I've got a local U-Edit about 2 miles away that will do it for $45. including the new tape. That's a fair price for very little actual work.
Find a friend with a camera or deck and put a couple of extra cold ones in the refrigerator. Chances are you will be able to return the favor one of these days.

  • Timecode Overlay

    Hi,
I know how to enable timecode overlays, however, is there a way i can export them when i export my video to dvd? Also, is it possible to have the clip name export as an overlay as well (obviously without having to create titles for every clip..)
    Thanks!!
    Ari

"Also, is it possible to have the clip name export as an overlay as well (obviously without having to create titles for every clip..)"
Here's a fix which should help you. Get your timecode overlays working on each clip in a separate sequence. Leave the name of the sequence the name of the clip that is in the sequence. In the browser, highlight the sequences you want to export. GO to File>Batch Export. The default naming option is to use the sequence name. Enter the other settings; and then 'export.'
    Hope that helps.

  • Can not turn on Title Safe overlay, only Timecode overlays work HELP.

For some reason when I try to turn on Overlays in the Canvas, only Timecode turns on. I can not seem to turn on Title Safe, please help.

It means go into your System Preferences, select DISPLAYS and set the monitor to MILLIONS, not THOUSANDS. This isn't done in FCP, but in the operating system.

  • File export turns off canvas overlay

I have just completed exporting some stills from a sequence. Each time I exported a file using Quicktime Conversion the canvas overlay turned off. Since I was exporting frames based on timecode this was a bit of a pain.
Does anybody know if this is a feature or a bug. I expect that it is a bug, but I have been wrong in the past!
    Trevor

For me it only disappears when clicking on the "Options" button. You shouldn't need to do this once you've set in in a session...

  • Where are the timecodes overlays in Final Cut Pro X ??

    Anybody knows ?
    Thanks.

It is that counter in the middle of the screen. When you scrub through clips in the event browser, it will show you the original timecode. In the timeline, I believe the timecode starts at 0 and you cannot change that.
In the preferences, under Editing, you can modify how the timecode is displayed. See

  • Turn off direction overlay in map app?

Once you've asked for directions from here to there in the Map app on the iPhone (and iPad too I suspect), is it possible to then turn off the purple line which indicates the suggested route? Several times I've wanted to not see it as it's so dark it obscures street names and also somtimes it's not the best route and is a distraction.
Is there any way to remove it so that you just see the map of the area?
    Thanks

    Hi Obinna,
Currently we do not have this ability with MOBI app on Android.
Will consider it with our backlog for future releases.

  • Zero-Based Timecode/After Effects

This is a question that can be solved for either FCP or After Effects, as long as I can get them to dispay timecode in the same way.
I'm putting together a video by doing basic cutting in FCP, then taking the individual DV clips into AE and doing working its magic there. I thought that after I do the cutting in FCP, all I would need to do is turn on Timecode Overlay, and then use those timecodes to lay the clips into AE as needed with the correct starting and ending points intact.
The problem is that FCP dispays Media-Based timecode (if you start a clip a minute into the tape, the first frame is 1:00;00), while AE give timecode as Zero-Based (first frame is always 0:00;00). This adds pain to my workflow, as I have to look at the beginning of each clip in FCP to see the timecode of the first frame and then do the math.
I've tried ctl-clicking on the timecode display in the viewer window (after opening the clip from the timeline) and switching between "clip time" and "source time," but nothing changes.
So, is there a way to get FCP to display Zero-Based timecode for an individual clip? Or to get After Effects to read the timecode embedded with the clip?
    FCP 4.5
    AE 6.5 Pro
    Thanks!

So, is there a way to get FCP to display Zero-Based

    No and no.
    Have you looked at this?

  • No timecode when converting GH4 4k to 1080p

When I convert my 4k files into 1080p (both at 23.976), all my new clips start at 00:00:00:00. If I turn on Timecode Overlay, the timecode from the original clip is in the burn in but the clips still start at 00:00:00:00. Anyone else have this happen or know a work around?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Could you provide more details? It looks like the camera can create both .mov and .mp4 files. Which one are you using? Also, what preset settings are you using for export?

i can't find any information on it one way or the other.

  • Time Code Overlay no longer working

I'm having one of those bizarre computing experiences where a function I've been using for years no longer seems to work.
Timecode overlay is no longer showing the source material timecode - it shows the in and out timecode in the top of the canvas but none of the timecodes of the material in the timeline.
Does anyone know if I've inadvertently turned something off, or is it good old fashioned voodoo?

If that's not it, then check in Displays Preferences to make sure both computer displays are set to display millions of colors.
I don't know for certain if this would cause your problem, but if either display is instead set to thousands, then Safe Title and Safe Area lines won't be visible. Maybe the others won't be visible either.

  • Add Frame Hold lost timecode source information

I've got a huge problem with the Add Frame Hold dunction in Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 release (Also Mac or Windows)
    Here is my workflow
All the footages are shot with an Arri Alexa and converted in Quicktime ProRes LT 1080p25 with timecode conservation from source (verified)
I'm editing a 4 mins music video in stop motion style. The video footage are freezed on precise pictures in Premiere with the Add frame hold function
For example : Add frame hold at 10:03:27:16 on the media source
When I play this frame hold in the timeline, with Timecode Overlay turned ON, the timecode is running...
So if I trim the IN point or OUT point of this clip to adjust the duration of the freeze frame, I lost the original timecode reference of my freeze frame !!
(In this example, I've adjusted the IN and OUT point of my freezed clip to shorten the clip). The video displayed is OK (the same image that has been frozen) but the timecode overlay is not (10:03:31:19)
The BIG problem is that this full project is going to be conformed for color grading (Assimilate Scratch) so is IMPOSSIBLE for me to relink my editing with the original ALEXA footage.
It seems to be a huge bug !
Anyone from Adobe tech has got a solution or a workaround to let met find the original timecode from each frozen shot ?
I've tried to open the project XML (unzip the prproj file the open it in a xml editor). I've found bunch of <frameholdstart> sections but the numbers does not correspond to regular timecodes or numbers of frame or whatever. Is there any way to convert theses numbers into regular timecodes ?
Please Adobe techs help me. My project is stuck into Premiere for the moment and I cannot send it to the color grading crew.
    Thank you

  • Conform caption timecode to sequence timecode?

Working in a foreign language edit, had to cut and reassemble a caption track along with its corresponding video that needed moving around.  Caption clips move in the timeline and play fine on the program monitor, but the original timecode in the caption bin remains unchanged.  Upon export, captions pop up in their original, pre-edit, bin timecode, so that captions no longer match clips as they did in the program monitor.
Is there an automatic way to conform caption timecode to where reassembled captions appear on the sequence, so that exports work/look the same as the program monitor?  I can't find any documentation on how one would do that. Not that a lot of people need this function, but I do.
Conforming times manually is feasible but slow/ laborious: scrub the timeline,   type in the new start + end timecodes on the caption in the bin, one by one. Of course if the new time overlaps with an existing caption, Premiere won't let you make the change. Untangling this can be a real mess because you need to find un-captioned spaces.
So, to avoid the overlap/untangle mess, one can first change all bin timecodes for after the end of the program (e.g, +1 hour); once lined up in the great beyond I can substract the extra time (again, manually, both start + end timecode) so that they again line up with my video sequence… hopefully in the correct places. But as you can see, laboriousness aside, this invites error (e.g., inadvertently breaking the translation).
Any suggestions for shortcuts or automation for this process within Premiere?

It's true you can't do it in Print to Video.
Edit to Tape can look complex at a glance, but it's really pretty simple. You can get detailed instructions on how to use it in the manual (or search your "Help" menu for Edit To Tape), but basically, this is what you do:
    1. Set your timeline so your footage starts at 00:01:00:00, as you mentioned was your requirement. That means you're sequence actually starts at 00:00:20:00 due to the 40 seconds of bars/tone/countdown.
    2. Open the Edit to Tape window and click the "Black and Code" button at the top of the window.
    3. Set it to "Current Settings" and to start at 00:00:10:00 (you need to give the tape enough code for preroll to start at 00:00:20:00).
    4. Black and Code the tape.
    5. Set the In Point (bottom left of the Edit to Tape window) to start at 00:00:20:00.
    6. Drag your sequence right from the browser to the "Assemble" button in the Edit to Tape window (you can also use "Insert," depending on your requirements).
    7. Done and done.
*It's a good idea to close all your sequences and turn off "Show overlays" in the canvas before you edit to tape. helps things run smoothly.
Also...For the above explanation I am assuming you have placed the 40 seconds of bars/tone/countdown in your sequence. If you haven't, you can add them in using functions of Edit to Tape as well...again, see the manual. It's really quick.
I may have failed to include some steps that are second nature to me so that's another good reason to check the manual or the Help file.
    Hope this helps,
    Joni
(one more thing, make sure your Beta deck is set to "External" when you're outputting so it takes the timecode from FCP)
