Turn text off but keep phone on

Any way besides going into settings to turn texting off and allow for incoming calls, ie an application. Want to turn texting off at night so not be disturbed by noise but still allow for emergent calls. Thanks

In a word, no.
The iPhone does not include a setting for different times of the day to have all sounds enabled and have some but not all sounds enabled at night.
There is no 3rd party application that provides for this and there won't be one. 3rd party apps do not have access to private APIs with the iPhone. Such a feature or option must be provided by Apple.

Please help new (senior) convert to Mac Pro (OS X). Am following the 'switching to a Mac' portable genius 2nd ed, and as it advised, I bought an external hard drive (a Mac My Word) and partitioned it with one partition for a secondary boot device and another for time machine. Launch the System Preferences application (under the Apple menu) and select the Startup Disk preference pane. Set your internal drive as the startup disk. Close the window.

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your phone and re-download it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it, or the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

why do you say it's not normal.
it always switches itself on after i update. it just did again, this time for 7.1.2.. i t also will switch on after a restore.
i never use bluetooth and make sure it's not on for any other reason.
it's been noticed by others too.

Try a hard reset, Press and hold the Power and Home buttons until you see the Apple Logo.
If that doesn't work, force the phone into recovery mode and restore using iTunes:

Iphone 4s got wet. Made a call of it worked fine. Then placed it in rice and tried to turn it off but it wouldnt. woke up to my alarm? will my phone be okay or should i wait to check it.

Let it sit, my iPhone got water damage, and it costs $200 to get a refurbished one (4S), so that's an option. There is no harm in letting it sit in rice though.

Combine text layers but keep text editable? OR A way to export text as a paragraph in InDesign into Photoshop

Hoping to achieve one of these goals, either option is equally fine:
Option 1) find a way to merge text layers but keep the text editable in Photoshop.
Option 2) find a way in InDesign to group and collapse text so that it lands on one layer or one text paragraph that could be selected together. So that when I export to EPS and then PSD the text is not sliced up on various layers but is combined into one editable text layer.
Why? I'm saving out from InDesign and for whatever reason the text is fragmented across many objects/layers/ whatever you want to call it. When using the export feature from InDesign these bits of text are then saved out as separate layers when you export to EPS. Using Illustrator with the EPS files is no help either.
The best way I can describe it is like in these InDesign document there are web page slices being used and various bits of the text are landing on various slices which in turn befuddles the export function that is valiantly trying to maintain these 'slices' of text by fragmenting letters, words, or characters across many 'slices' into many layers.
Here's what the document looks like when I go from InDesign> export> EPS> then open in Illustrator and export to PSD.
What I want is all of those individual text layers to be one text layer, still editable, in Photoshop.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

By far the most common problem hardware-wise seems to be scuffs on the aluminium. Yours is the first report of a faulty screen I've seen.
If you use the same Apple ID on both devices it'll sync whatever you want it to - music/apps/photos/messages/etc.
I've just switched from a Galaxy S3 to iPhone 5 (having already owned an iPad for a while) so I'm in a similar position!

Discharge it to around 50-60% then completely shut it off. Store at around room temperature. When you return connect the charger and let the battery fully charge.
