Turn touch gesture on Thinkpad Twist

I am having trouble with the Turn or Rotate gesture on my Windows 8 S230u Lenovo Twist. When I use to fingers in a Turn Gesture motion it acts like a pinch or zoom gesture rather than the turn gesture.

I don't believe it is related to 5 point touch, swipe/gestures work for a little while on mine and then stop. there are a few other threads going on this topic with the Twist. it looks like there may be a touch bug. I believe a few posters have an open case with Lenovo on it and are going to post back soon. I can't wait, as my lovely wife isn't happy with the choice of the Twist at the moment

  • Cannot Turn Off Thinkpad Twist Ultrabook S230u

This is a strange problem:  I have a touch-screen Windows 8 that came insalled on my Thinkpad Twist Ultrabook S230u. To turn it off, I have to swipe the right edge of the screen to pull out a settings menu; then I must touch-select the power-off option.  Suddenly, I'm unable to draw out the menu from the right side of the screen.  (1) How do I get the menu to emerge and (2) is there an alternate way to turn off my computer? Thanks for any help/advice for this odd problem!

    Hello,
Perhaps the swipe from the right edge of the screen was accidentally disabled in the registry?
An alternative method of shutting down would be to create a shortcut to the Shutdown command as follows:
    c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /p /f
The /p tells Windows to shut down the computer without prompting, and the /f tells Windows to force-close all running applications.  You can actually leave the latter option out if you would like to be prompted to close applications that are still running.

  • Touchscreen gesture unresponsive in Thinkpad Twist S230u

Have been using newly purchased S239u ThinkPad Twist for 4 days.  The right side touchscreen gesturing to invoke charms menu no longer works (however works if use mouse in corner).  Also, gesturing from the bottom does not work.  Gesturing from the left side and top of screen does operate.  Taking unit back to store where purchased.  Anyone else have a similar problem like this?

Mine is unresponsive too. Compltely 100% unresponsive. Even after doing a complete reset and wipe of the hard drive. I  already sent it in twice now and Lenovo did not fix anything. I'm ready to sue lenovo for being in breach of warranty.

  • Option to turn on Experimental Feature 'Touch gestures' does not appear!

I recently purchased a HP touch laptop and although I've installed creative suite photoshop 2.2 with no issue whilst running windows 8.1
no matter what I do I cannt get the option under 'experimental features' of 'touch gestures'
I want to be able to use the touchscreen to operate the program but so far all i can do is select tools - never use them
    ITS VERY FRUSTRATING
I cannot update photoshop or windows any further both are listed as up to date

I no longer have that option in CC 2014 perhaps Adobe removed it in the cc 2014.2.2 update.

    Touch gestures
Touch Gestures had been introduced as experimental features in the 2014 June release of Photoshop CC for Windows 8 systems. For the latest release, touch gestures are now part of the main product.
Touch input is recognized from any touch-capable device attached to the system, including opaque finger pads and indirect tablets as well as direct-touch devices integrated directly with a display. You can control Photoshop using devices which support two or more simultaneous touch points.

  • Thinkpad Twist s230U no internal display, works on HDMI and mini display port

    Hi,
My Thinkpad Twist does not display anything when turned on except on external monitors. The Device manager shows a greyed out internal display icon, says it is not connected.
    1. Could this be the power connect ribbon cable p/n DC002C003W00 have a fractured wire(s)? I have tested for open circuit between PWR1 and PWR2 connectors and there are 4 sequential pins which are open circuit. Is this normal?
    2. The touch screen works
    3. There appears to be absolutely no LED backlighting working
    4. Is there a possible fix for this and if so is it the power cables or some physical problem with the ribbon cables OR is it definitely a new display that is needed using existing cables?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

The last 4 pins on the connector are unused I have determined so it is not the power ribbon cable connector.
I found two wires fractured in the LCD ribbon cable right at the point where it feeds through the twist mount. I expect this could be a common problem after use. After repairing these two wires it did not fix the screen problem. I have ordered a replacement LDVS ribbon cable and will report back once I have replaced that.

  • ThinkPad Twist s230u cursor flashing

    Hello,
I own a thinkpad twist s230u (3347 4HU) purchased 3 weeks ago. From the moment I turned it on, it has a major issue. The cursor goes on the right side of the screen, it flashes and it opens windows and applications itself whether it runs on desktop or on tablet mode. The problem appears every time I use the laptop and I can’t do anything. I can’t  write text anywhere due to the cursor flashing. Also most of the times that cursor flashes, the screen jitters too! I updated the bios system to 1.57 version so as most of the rest software including Atmel touch controller firmware update tool, Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, Auto Scroll Utility and many others. I also ran linux ubuntu from a usb flash memory but the problem still existed. So it is not a windows 8 or a driver failure. I noticed that few times when i  turn around the screen or I change screen’s angle, then the problem temporarily subsides for less than a minute. I am very disappointed and frustrated. I never expected to buy a Lenovo product with such a problem.
    Could anyone help me?

I have the same issue, on a brand new Twist.  So this is not some isolated occurrence.  It's a serious problem.  Could someone from Lenovo please respond regarding a fix or plans to address this?

  • Lenovo Thinkpad Twist touchscreen issue

Does anybody have any expirience with setting up the touchscreen on the thinkpad twist? I assume that I am having  a kernel moduel issue because it does not show up in xinput (it did however show up in ubuntu as atmel maxtouch digitizer, and works without any issues). Any help would be gcreatly appreciated

    Hi Lem0nade,
Thanks for your reply.  I've tried calibrating the device and setting the full windows touch support, as well as resetting the device to factory defaults and updating the drivers but the problem is still present.
I've inserted a file showing an example of the troubleshooting approach in case it's useful.  Starting a Metro paint application and then drawing vertical lines across the screen there's a line that just doesn't register the touch at all.  If I use the touchpad to draw in that area it works ok, also this behaviour is consistent across multiple applications and is the same after I reset the device, makeing me fairly sure it's a hardware issue with the touchscreen.
At the moment I've got my Twist being picked up as an RMA by the site I bought it from but I thought this informaiton could be useful for other people seeing problems with their touchscreens.

  • Is anyone else having trouble with multi touch gestures since upgrading to ios8?

SSince I upgraded my iPad (retina, large dock port) I seem to have lost the 5 finger pinch to close apps. I can get it working again by going to settings and turning ,uti touch gestures off and on again and this seems to work for a while, until I put the ipad to sleep and wake it up again.
    any ideas?

Same goes for me. No gesture on ipad2 running ios8. Plus, applications often crash, including safari and apple apps.
does apple need to run some unit test before taking Tim on the stage?

  • Thinkpad Twist - Disapointed

Between the randomly dimming screen, schizophrenic touchpad, non-function auto-rotate button, and forcing me to desktop on every boot well, let's just say that I'm not actively recommending this machine or Lenovo to anyone
I am running your patch 'solution' for the dimming screen, it dims less but still pathetic as it doesn't fix it.
I am running the latest touchpad driver - yet it still will bounce me randomly to other apps, less then it did with the old driver but still bad.
I've reloaded the machine several times in an attempt to straighten out the auto-rotate button.  (and it appears that the original software load has a much newer driver then the one you can get from the website... which is odd)
I've determined (myself) that your "Lenovo hotkey client loader" service is what is forcing me to the desktop - So it's disabled, Not sure what it does, but I haven't missed it.
I am an IT professional, with over ten years experience. managing 800+ machines. And I'm currently pretty disappointed that I bought this machine, and disappointed with Lenovo (it's the first Lenovo I have bought since the IBM thinkpad X21)
I had originally thought that the Thinkpad Twist and Yoga were in the top three choices for the initial windows 8 launch. With my current experience I cannot recommend Lenovo products... I'm hoping these issues get resolved.

I am not from Lenovo but am experienced and have kept my first Lenovo (Twist) and wanted to comment.  First, thanks for figuring out that Lenovo hotkey client loader service is what forces to desktop.  Although many people may like the desktop, it has been driving me crazy.  I changed its startup to Manual and noticed it seems to be what operates the special features of some higher numbered function keys and also the screen-orientation rotate button in laptop mode.
Regarding randomly dimming screen, I disabled the ambient light sensor dimming the first day (but keep the timer-based screen dimming).  Regarding touchpad random apps, I can't do well with touchpads unless I disable tapping.  I never re-loaded (I did make recovery from hard disk then restored after swapping to 256GB SSD) but I keep doing updates and the only auto-rotate/button problem for me now is having to be rotated with Lenovo logo at bottom before turning to laptop mode (or press the button if I haven't disabled Lenovo hotkey client loader).
In case this helps you or someone else: I had noticed battery draining while "off" - I finally seem to have fixed this, I think fix was disabling all the wake-on-LAN features I could find (definately driver settings for wired driver, wireless driver, and maybe BIOS setting).  I also disabled some other settings such as security chip, but I think the key was disable WOL.

  • ThinkPad Twist s230u important questions regarding performance

    Hello everyone,
So, I recently bought a ThinkPad Twist (specifically the 33472GU, even though outlet said 3347XF4) from the outlet to upgrade the laptop that I take to class and I have to make a few questions that I hope get answered. I haven't really seen much attention paid to this particular device and it saddens me to see the lack of attention that it has seen.
In particular, I would have liked to see more response and helpfulness from Lenovo staff to address these concerns, but if anyone else has input, please let me know. Here is my list:
1.) It is true when they say the battery doesn't last long. I can barely squeeze 3/4 hours out of it depending on what I am doing. This is considering that I turned many of the settings down and even turned off things like bluetooth and windows 8 effects. How can Lenovo advertise 6/7 hours on this thing? No, my battery is not dead, in fact, it came with 46 mWh charge, better than what it was designed for (42 mWh). So I don't want to get sent to technical support to "fix" it. I want an honest answer and indication from staff that this issue is being taken seriously and addressed.
2.) With the above being said, is there a definitive answer from anyone about how I can extend my battery life to at least 5 hours without crippling the machine? I'm not willing to turn EVERYTHING off. That defeats the purpose of having bought the twist in the first place.
3.) Does anyone know when the Haswell version of the device is coming out? Not that I really have a choice because I already have this one. I just want to know that I didn't buy it weeks before a release so I don't feel cheated.
Otherwise, it's a great unit and concept in general. I was considering the x230t because it has everything and more (including battery life). But unfortunately it's a little overkill, much more expensive, and I couldn't find many configurations on the outlet (probably because nobody wants to return theirs).
I would appreciate any and all helpful recommendations/explanations (particularly honest ones) and I thank you for reading this.

I think our estimate of 3-4 hours of battery life is closer to real world if you are actively using the computer.
From the many forum posts, I have come to believe that the only way to exceed 5 hours is to replace the hard drive with an SSD.  I have gotten such good performance after reinstalling from scratch and getting the msata working that it is hard for me to justify the $200 for extra battery life and the annoying pauses when the harddrive shock sensor is triggered.
For me, this was a "you get what you paid for" situation.  I would have liked 8G of RAM and the i7 processor, but the i5 is acceptable.  The only way I think you will be satisfied is if you go SSD instead of the HD.  Good luck.

  • How to enable wake on lan on Thinkpad Twist?

I have a Thinkpad Twist purchased because of the presence of the ethernet card.
Unfortunately I can not turn wake on lan.
I did several searches and several attempts without success.
Someone managed to enable wake on lan?
    Thank you.
(sorry for the English by Google Translate)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey there Cello67,
To enable Wake On Lan on a Thinkpad twist:
    1) You will first need to power down your laptop completely.
    2) Then turn it on, as soon as you turn it on start hitting the enter key to interrupt start up. This will take you to a start up menu.
    3) From here you will need to enter your BIOS.
    4) Move right over to the Config, then press enter on the Network Selection
    5) The first option you should have is Wake On Lan. You can change this from disabled to either AC Only or AC and Battery.
After you have done this save your settings, and resume startup. Once the computer has finished booting go to your desktop, and pull out your charm bar by pressing Win Key + C or with a swipe from the right side of your screen in. From here you will:
    1) Enter the Control Panel
    2) Device Manager - > Your Ethernet Card/Adapter
    3) Click the Power Management Tab
    4) Select "Allow this device to wake the computer"
    Hope this helps Cello67!

  • Touch gestures feature stopped working/disappeared two days ago

I use Photoshop CC on a Surface Pro, and actively use touch gestures experimental feature as part of my workflow. Two days ago, the feature all of the sudden stopped working. I went into Settings, and it's no longer even listed under experimental settings, only the screen scaling and the printing features, two instead of the three that should be there.
Is this something that went away with a recent update (I hope not!), or am I dealing with another issue? How do I get it back? This is seriously impairing my workflow.
    Thanks for any help!

Seili010 - Adobe has mentioned that the Touch features are now part of the base Photoshop CC 2014 so no need to turn them on.
    HOWEVER
I am running the same setup on my Surface Pro 2 (Win 8.1) and my touch features have stopped working as well. I also have a Surface Pro 1 (Win 8.1) that my backup copy of Photoshop CC 2014 is installed on and the touch features work fine.

    Thanks.

  • Thinkpad Twist s230u: Can no Longer Connect to the Internet

    Hello,
Several days ago my Lenovo Thinkpad Twist suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. I was at the cafe using my phone hotspot and everything was fine, but then when I got back home, it could not detect any wireless networks in my house. I thought it may have just been my wi-fi but my phone could connect to the wi-fi just fine. I tried plugging in my phone again for personal hotpot and it could detect my phone, but no longer connect to the internet (it'd say that it's connected, but no pages would load). I tried rebooting my computer, but the wireless networks still could not be found and my phone's hotspot could no longer help it connect to the internet. I tried a Malwarebytes Scan but that didn't detect anything, and my McAfee virus scanner is not gonna help me find anymore viruses (long story as to why I don't have a better virus protection).
Can't really install any updates since I can't connect to the internet at all...rebooted several times to no avail...
Any sort of help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
    Sincerely,
    Ingrid

I just started to have similar problem. I cannot connect to interent via ethernet or wifi. Both connections show I am connected, but cannot acces any web pages. It is like it is not connected. I would like to know how to restore back to when I bought it, 12/20/13, and then re-load the Windows 8 pro that is somewhere on the partition HD. Any help out there?????? All my other devices/laptops/computers work fine on the internet.

  • Touch gestures no longer working with newest Yosemite version

Ever since I did the newest Yosemite update a few weeks ago on my 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro the multi-touch gestures such as two finger swipes no longer work. I have been patiently waiting for a new update to fix this but I'm getting impatient.

    Hi justinp320,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with the most recent Yosemite update. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature and scope of the issue you are describing. Are all or only some of the Multi-Touch gestures not working, and/or what are the current settings in the Trackpad preference pane, as outlined in the following articles:
