Turning All Notifications Off

Did Apple really do away with the ability to turn Notifications off with iOS 5?? The new notification bar is sweet (I really missed that about my old droid when I switched to iPhone) but I need to be able to turn all notifications off when I go to bed but still be able to receive phone calls. My wife works 3rd shift and needs to be able to call me in case of an emergency, but I don't want all the notifications constantly interrupting my sleep. Anyone know a way around this? Or do we just need to ask Apple to re-add this feature?

I would not have updated my phone had I known the notifications button was not going to be there.  This completely blows. They need to put it back

  • How can I turn ALL notifications off at once?

Before upgrading to iOS5, I could turn off ALL notifications with ONE swipe and all back on with one swipe... I do that when I go to sleep, because otherwise, my phone lighting up over & over wakes me up somestimes... and I don't want to be awakened by notifications.  But when I am awake, I want the notifications.
But it looks like with the new iOS5, you have to turn EACH one off individually... then turn them all back on individually.  PLEASE someone tell me I'm wrong, that I'm missing something somewhere.  That is a MAJOR HASSLE!!!!  There HAS to be a way to turn ALL notifications off and back on in ONE step... PLEASE!
If not, HOW can we BEG Apple to FIX this horrible mistake?  Because if this feature is gone, that's a MASSIVE error on Apple's part!!  WHY they would remove that option is beyond stupid!  So I really hope someone can tell me I'm missing something... I've searched and checked all over, but I don't see any way to turn ALL off at once, then turn ALL back on at once.  I don't want to spend 10-15 mins each night turning each one off... then 10-15 mins turning each one back on one at a time.  Major pain!
So PLEASE tell me how to do this... or PLEASE Apple fix this!!

Yeah, it's even worse than I thought.  I first turned off the Notification center on each app... STILL got notifications.  So then I changed the alert style to "NONE" instead of alerts or banners.  And last night I STILL got notifications!!  OMG how difficult is it to turn these things off???  So now I ALSO turned off "Badge App Icon" figuring that MUST be it.  Haven't gotten any yet, so I guess that's it.
But REALLY??  For EACH and EVERY app we have to do THREE STEPS???  Really SIX steps... 3 to turn off, and then 3 to turn back on!!  ARE YOU KIDDING APPLE??
Whoever designed this part of the upgrade should be FIRED for being SO INSANELY STUPID!!!  Why take something that was so simple and EASY to use and now make it more work, more difficult and all around ANNOYING!!  This is the WORST thing about IOS5 so far for me... although with something this bad, I am sure there will be more bugs found!  Guess I should have waited to upgrade!  :-(  But I thought your beta team would have figured out all the kinks & bugs BEFORE release!  Guess not!
PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP and give us back a ONE step ON/OFF for ALL notifications!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I turned all notifications to NO

    Hello,
I turned all notifications to NO but receive a flood of emails which don't stop.
I had to turn off the vibration and sound not to get disturbed from the hundreds of email I receive.
Since I just wanted to be notified about my own thread this flood won't stop.
    Can someone help please.
    Regards limmy

So you are still getting emails from ASC?
Look at the email itself, it will tell you what community or thread it cane from. Go to that location and in the Actions box near the top of the screen should be a link to turn off email notifications.
But if you deleted all notifications from your profile there shouldn;t be any more being sent. If you still have problems a host can be notified to look at your account.

  • How do I turn push notifications off for my apps?

How do I turn push notifications off for my apps?

First, when you open an app for the first time it will ask you "(Appname) would like to send you push notifications. Is this ok?" then press "No" for it to not send you push. Otherwise, just do what they said. /\ /\ /\

  • All notifications Off, but calendar alerts won't stop?

I've loaned my old iPhone (3G running iOS 4.2.1 with no SIM card) to an elderly relative, just as an "iPod Touch" for ONE purpose only: to run a 24/7 web app I made that shows the time and date in super large yellow print. (It also shows the time of day in natural English, like "late morning," because AM vs. PM confuses her.) She loves it and relies on it! It solves a daily problem in her life that no clock has been able to solve. She is no longer embarassed not to know what time of day it is when people call/visit. She can now be self-reliant in a small but important way.
    But it's having a problem.
She is not tech-savvy and has memory problems, so I need to keep the experience as simple as any wall clock--nothing interactive. I have turned on EVERY parental restrictriction (apps are all hidden) and moved all the Apple apps and Settings to page 2. (If she hits the Home button by accident, page 1 only has one icon--my clock. Even the Dock is empty.) I turned off locking, sleeping, and vibrating. I set the volume to zero and set ALL Notifications completely Off.
And yet... my old scheduled calendar reminders (monthly bills, rent, taxes, etc.) keep popping up! You can imagine how bad that is to someone in a (sometimes) confused state. Her clock is telling her she has to pay some bill or do something urgent! A caregiver who visits every other day dismisses the alerts (about 1 per week) but it's still a problem. Sometimes her vision is good enough to actually read the alerts if she gets close, and regardless, the alerts block the clock display.
Even worse, if she ever accidentally touches the screen, the alert might send her into the calendar app which would be utterly confusing. If that happens even once, she will be sure she has broken it. She'll blame herself, and this clock that is such a relief and comfort to her will become a source of fear and stress, just like her microwave and her cordless phone. Technology terrifies her, and even other wall clocks have been a problem. (She always thinks electrical devicses are interfering with each other--like thinking that she has lost some of her TV channels because she hit the wrong button on her phone, or thinking her fridge is ruining the food because the microwave clock started blinking.)
Any thoughts? Why would it still be showing calendar alerts?
I live in another state entirely, so I'm hoping this is something simple that I can talk the caregiver though on the phone. (Deleting calendar events manually, say, or wiping and reinstalling the phone, would be last resorts--those would have to wait until I next visit in person.)
    TIA!

I have just tested this on my own device and discovered that even with notifications in the Notifications Centre turned off, if you have alerts set in the calendar entry they will still display and bleep on the screen.  You may need to go into the entries that are appearing on her device and remove the alert.

  • Cant turn push/notifications off  for Ping! application.

Can anyone help ? - I bought an iphone 3gs in Thailand which came with 3.1 installed. As the phone is a factory unlocked phone I changed the the sim from True Move to AIS. I then installed the Ping! application. When it asked if I wanted to allow push notification for Ping I accepted. The problem is now I cannot stop Ping! connecting to the internet whenever I am in an edge area. The application works fine but the only way I can stop it connecting to the internet is to delete it. I have turned off all push/fetch/notifications uninstalled and reinstalled - but still whenever edge is on it connects even if not open. As I am not on an unlimited data plan this eats through my intenet minutes first and then my phone minutes after. Is anyone else experiencing this with Ping or other push notifications apps on AIS ?

Forgot to state the edge connection is AIS in thailand.

  • Is there a way to turn my notifications off while on a telephone call?

Is there a way to temporary in off notifications while on a call? I do not want to turn if off completely just while on the phone. It's a bit irritating and distracting during business calls.

Use the mute switch. It's the slider just above the volume buttons.

  • Cannot turn mail notifications off

    Hi everyone,
Since yesterday, my phone starting playing a sound every time I get a new email (Gmail). My sound notifications for Mail are off in the settings and I cannot find any other place to change it.
Have several iPhones in the past 3 years and this is the first time I encouter this issue. I haven't made any changes I can think of.
    Thanks for your help!

The only other place that I can think there may be an additional setting for that is in the Notifications settings area. Go to Settings, Notifications and then check the areas that are listed under "In Notification Center". If the Gmail was listed there, it could have an additional setting that would be producing the alert.

  • There is music playing in the background every time I open Firefox. How do I stop the music without turning all sound off?

I don't get this music with any other browser, only Firefox. ITunes is off. I don't see any setting in Preferences that would cause this. . Apple Care tells me that it's a Mozilla Firefox problem.

    Check the home page setting:
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

    Hello John,
    Try here....
    iChat > Preferences > Alerts.
You can change / de-select the sounds for all the actions there.
    Hope that helps some.

  • How do you turn the music off in the pull up window at the bottom of the iPad?

Ever since the latest update there is no volume unless I plug in earbuds. I figured out that if music was on it would over ride you tube or any other venue I wanted to watch...so I know to shut off everything if I want to hear random items. BUT in the pull up window for quick adjustments at the bottom of the iPad I see my music is always on! How do I turn it off? How do I delete songs, artists I don't want?

The problem is : that because this is always on my external speaker will not emit sound. The music over rides EVERYTHING. Is there no way of turning all music off? This is a major problem for me. If I want to share a video of a grandchild with someone there is NO volume without earbuds. I've reset ALL settings (suggestion from Apple) it worked till I plugged my earbuds in the first time after the reset.
I know how to double click on the home button to bring up all open apps and swipe up to close them BUT it doesn't close them from the quick adjustment window at the bottom pull up window. It shows music still playing.
This all started with the latest update! I think it's a glitch in the system.

  • IPhone makes a random water drop sound through out the day. All notifications are turned off? Not sure what the cause is.

My iPhone randomly makes a sound like a drop of water into a puddle.  I've turned off all notifications and it till does it.  Any suggestions?

  • HT201412 All sounds are mute tho mute is not on. Keystroke sounds and other phone sounds but they ring tones and notifications are still working period I have tried turning the phone off and on please help

All the keystrokes sounds in different sounds that go with the phone have stopped working do you know how to make them go again? The ring tones and notifications down this still work but not that keystrokes are other in phone sounds. Is there something I can do other than turn the phone off and on to restore them?

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.
If the basic troubleshooting steps don't work, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and probable replacement.

  • Why do i keep hearing a notification tone when I turned off all notifications and also put my macbook on do not disturb?

First I was hearing a notification tone intermitantly when an email came in; it was never consistent and only started after I'd had my macbook for about 7 weeks. Today, I found the way to turn off all notifications and put the computer on permanent do not disturb in system preferences.  Now I'm getting the tone sort of at random.  Can anybody tell me what is going on?  I have a 2014 macbook pro 15".

Yes.  Reset network settings. Head to Settings -> General -> Reset and tap Reset Network Settings.
