Turning audio off from previous slide

I put together a CP5 demo for my lead to present at a meeting to show management some of the things CP5 can do.  On the slides I placed and example of the following:
a Software Simulation
a video
project built from PPTs
Each of these had narrations in the example.  WHen my lead when to run through it the audio from each continued to play when the project advanced to the next slide so by the end it was a chorus of voices.  Is there a way to tell CP5 to stop the audio when the slide advances?  I'm thinking it must be an advanced action but I"m not good with these.
Thanks,
Susan

Did you add each of these examples as Captivate published SWFs added on separate slides of a master project?
If so, you would effectively have three or more SWFs each with their own audio track.  Unless you explicitly stop the audio for an SWF inserted into a Captivate movie slide, it will continue to play until finished.
For best results in Captivate you should avoid nesting Captivate movies within other Captivate projects.
Just copy and paste all the slides from each separate example into a main project file so that these slides become slides in the master project, each with their own separate audio on each slide.  Then when you publish you shouldn't have problems with the audio playing over the top of other slides.  When you move from slide to slide the audio from previous slides will cease playing.

  • Optimum workflow for creating an audio-visual from scanned slides?

I'd like some suggestions as to the best workflow to adopt when generating an AV from scanned slides. I'm transferring my 3-screen audio-visuals from slide format to Blu-ray. The slides are being scanned on a Nikon Coolscan, and after editing end up as ~100 MB, 5400 x 3700, Tiff files with seven layers. These files are then archived, separate from anything I do with them in Premiere. They'll be imported into Premiere, along with the original soundtrack, and eventually output to Blu-ray disk. Then I hire the local cinema for an evening or two, let the word spread, and we reminisce and party!
I realise that pre-conditioning the images – flattening, cropping, down-sampling to a suitable size – would be a good approach, but I'd rather avoid that if possible for two reasons: (1) so that I only have one image to keep track of, instead of the original and a Premiere version; and (2) if I decide to edit colour or contrast I can do so non-destructively on the original. The latter is an important consideration. Images may be used in more than one project. If I decide to alter the look of an image (not because of the look of the image within a particular project, but because I decide the original edit was inherently flawed), it would be better to alter the original and have that change reflected in all other uses of the image, than to alter, say, two copies of the image plus the original.
A finished AV will range from 30-400 images. The longer shows will be broken into sequences of no longer than about 20-30 images. These are some of my concerns:
    Cropping
The scanned images include a small amount of the slide mount. That way I know I've scanned the entire slide. So that has to go. And given that slides are 3:2 and Blu-ray is 16:9, something else has to go as well. I've been through most of the Premiere PDF but have yet to come across a cropping tool. I know how to position, scale, rotate, but how do I crop? Scaling is not a substitute because I may want certain images to not fill the screen and not show the slide mount.
    Flattening
Will layered Tiff files cause difficulties in Premiere or Encore?
    Resolution
Will 5400 x 3700 files (versus resampling to 1920 x 1080) have a serious impact on the time in takes for any part of the process from importing into Premiere to encoding in Encore?
    Image Order
Is it better to order and renumber images using Adobe Bridge, or should I just shuffle images around in Premiere? Working with Premiere alone would have the advantage that I can import the originals (if that is an acceptable workflow).
    Packaging
When a project is finished, I want to package all the assets via Project Manager and archive them. And I'd rather not archive 100MB image files. Now, this is going to be a big ask, and I'll have to jump across to InDesign to explain. When I've used scanned images in InDesign, I link to the original 100 MB files. No problems whatsoever. Come archiving time, I package in one of two ways: use an InDesign script to crop and resample the original images, and then package; or I simply export to PDF, and during the export all images are automatically cropped, resampled, and saved within the PDF in whatever format I choose. A simple and elegant archive.
Does Premiere have the ability to crop and resample the stills it uses, and either overwrite the original or save as a new file?
That question has just made me think: if I do need to crop, flatten and resample before importing into Premiere, or for archiving, maybe I should be mocking up my Premiere projects in InDesign set to a page size of 1920 x 1080. I could drag in all the images, then shuffle, crop and size them. When I'm happy with the sequence, I export as jpegs, and get the cropped, resampled images that way, ready for Premiere.
    Any comments most appreciated.

Your last paragraph makes the most sense. Although a script in Photoshop would easily do what you want.
Before you resize them, make sure you don't really need to pan across them. Resizing down to around 4K or so might avoid problems.

  • Carry over type from previous slide

I'm trying to carry over a line of type from a previous slide and there is the slightest delay when the slide transitions. I have the type in the same position on both slides. How can I make this seamless?

Tulse is correct: When you copy a word (or any other graphic element) from one slide to the next it comes with all of the attributes it had on the original slide - including any Builds effects. It also will appear in precisely the same place as it was on the original slide. (This, I believe, is what you wanted in your original posting.)
Because you don't want the effect to repeat on the second slide, go to the Build menu (on the second slide) and delete it from the list. Now, when you Transition to the new slide, the word (or object) will simply be there, in the same place as it was on the original slide, and without any "glitches."
    Good luck.

  • Nested sequence: after a cut, audio repeats from previous clip

Summary: In a nested sequence situation, I'm getting short audio repeats from a clip element just prior to a cut.
    Context:
Premiere Pro CC, latest version at time of writing (7.0.1 (105), under Windows 7 (64-bit).
Structure: I have a sync-sequence (multicam source sequence) consisting of XDCAM-EX (file structure broadly along the lines of AVCHD) and Z1 (plain m2t files).  Derived from / dependent on that is a multicam edit sequence, where I cut between camera angles.  Then that sequence is itself nested in a master sequence (showing selected extracts of the performance).
For reference purposes: Multicam edit sequence consists (among other things) of a rock band's "big finish" followed by some applause.  I made a cut in the audio part (only) of the nested sequence clip, to enable the audio for the applause to be normalized independently of the band performance.  To smooth the join I added a crossfade transition over the cut.  Nicer in principle than using volume envelopes.
When I play the original recording or the multicam sync-sequence or the multicam edit-sequence, all looks and sounds fine.
    Problem:
When the Master sequence is played back (in preview or an exported/encoded clip) I hear the big finish, then applause starts, then after 2 seconds the "big finish" is heard once again, but at lower audio level.
This effect happens wherever I have used the same cut/normalize/crossfade technique in the (nested) multicam edit sequence.  I have also encountered it in previous projects in Premiere CS6.
If I delete the crossfade then the problem disappears...  Doesn't matter what type of audio crossfade is used.
Is this a known problem? and is there a quick workaround? (other than using envelopes instead or copying/patching the audio up to the master level)

Ah so  [Sequence > Render Audio] is not just a "luxury item" to get waveforms to display when nested or to (presumably) to lower CPU load (e.g. when audio effects have been applied).  It's something that I will need to always do from now on...   It's a shame there's a "feature" but great to know of the workaround.
    Thank you very much.

Next step would be setting it up as new device without using the backup:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If it works after that, use the backup to restore from. If the problem comes back, your backup contained damaged files, causing this issue.

  • Publish issue with Cap 6: Background bitmapped/not showing/copied from previous slides

    Hi,
I have been working on a course for a while, publishing and having no issues. This morning when I tried to publish a few of the lessons, I am noticing that there are parts of the background from one slide appearing on the next. Also, on some slides, I see a couple of square areas of the background and nothing else. The captions and voiceover are fine though.
Can someone please help - the course is due today!
    Thank you
    Michele

I believe I have figured out the resolution, although not sure why it happened?
When I publish, I choose the setting "Force re-publish all the slides", the screens are fine - no issues. I think I will just  check this all the time

  • Elements 11 won't play audio mp3 from within slide show

I've created a slide show and have attempted to insert  an audio mp3 file. Audio file shows that it has been added to slide show but it wil not play.
I've added the mp3 multiple ways, by using the add media -- audio from element organizer as well as by  add media ---audio from file but it won't play
MP3 plays fine when I click on it from the organizer.
I've tested the mp3's  that came with elements 11 and they play fine. What's the deal?

Is it from within the iTunes library? Try deleting album art and then adding the track again.

I went to turn off my tv manually and received a shock I am not sure if it came from me or the tv but the tv immediately turned off. Now it has power but the tv doesn't actually appear on. The green power lot just flashed when you plug it in. I unplugged it over night and tried this morning and the same thing occurred.
I believe it is still under warranty but I cannot find the receipt anywhere after hours of looking. I need help with what I should do next to ensure I can get my tv fixed as this is a common problem with LCD's.
Can someone please help me with how I go about getting my warrantly information and what steps I need to take to get my tv repaired.

  • Hover images showing from previous slide viewing

I am creating interactive screenshots for our web product. I
have seen other threads where people had problems with hover
images. You put a hover image on slide one to replicate a product
menu link, users use this to 'navigate' your software, if they
navigate back to slide one, the hover image from when they clicked
    it earlier is still showing.
Hopefully this makes sense to those who have seen this
problem. I couldn't find a decent workaround to this problem in
Captivate 1, is there one? Is it any better in Captivate 2?
    Thanks
    Richard.

    Hi Larry
Thanks for your reply. I think I haven't explained myself
very clearly... First of all you are quite correct that I meant to
    say rollover image not hover!
I have recorded each of the screens within our product as a
separate background slide, so there is one slide for each main
screen, ordered in a linear way.
What I want the user to be able to do, is click on the
various menus of the product as if they were using it for real.
Within each screen I then have some rollover captions explaining
the different features and functions of the page. The movement
between slides is always driven by the user, there is no
    auto-transition.
So they start on the home page, they can move their mouse
around the screen to activate various rollover captions. When they
navigate to a menu item in the background image, I have a rollover
image set so it appears a hyperlink 'hover' has been activated. I
also have a click box set at the same area. (The rollover image and
click box are both small, just the size of the text.) So the user
sees the 'hover' and clicks to access another area of the product,
this then takes them to another slide with the relevant background
image and rollover captions etc... So far so good.
Because our product menu structure remains consistent along
the top of the page (like a website), one of the links available is
back to the home page. If on this new slide they move the mouse
over the home page link, the rollover image and click box can be
used to go back to the home page. If this is clicked, the user then
goes back to the first slide where they started. On this slide, the
rollover image used earlier is still displayed. To clear/reset it,
you have to move the mouse over it and it disappears, then it can
be used again. This is the problem I have for all slides where they
have been viewed once and then gone back to...
Because I want the user to be able to navigate backwards and
forwards around the product, I cannot keep the slides in a linear
format, as I would need infinite slide to cover all requirements.
Hope this is now clear. Appreciate your time.
    Richard.

  • Audio off from clip but not source vid

I was hoping someone might know a fix for this:
After I mark in/mark out and create a clip (command+U) and move the clip to one of my bins, if I load that clip in the viewer and pull it to the timeline the audio is 2 seconds delayed. However if I load the source video in the viewer and mark in/ mark out and pull the source reference to the timeline the audio is fine.
This error just popped up out of no where. It is affecting all saved projects and new projects.
    Thanks!

    Howdy Sparkytastic,
It sounds like all of a sudden the audio from your video clips is delayed in all of your projects. I would recommend taking a look at these steps specifically from the following article:
    Final Cut Express: Troubleshooting Basics
Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devices
If you're using a third-party storage system, input device, or something else, check the support area on the manufacturer's website to be sure that you're using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your device, if necessary. To see if your video device has been qualified for use with Final Cut Express, review: Final Cut Express: Camcorder support.
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Express back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Express user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences
Note: The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Express User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
    Final Cut Express
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Express. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application then install Final Cut Express and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Express. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Express.
Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before starting this.
    On Mac OS X v10.5
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Final Cut Express application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the FinalCutExpress.pkg file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Express.
Drag the FinalCutExpress.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutExpress.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Express" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Express installation disc and install Final Cut Express.
When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.
    On Mac OS X v10.6
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Final Cut Express application to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Express installation disc and install FInal Cut Express.
When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.
For further information on settings or installation, please refer to the Final Cut Express documentation available on your installation discs.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
