Turning hidden folders into "regular" folders?

When backing up my Ipod's music, the files were placed into Hidden folders. I used the terminal code to make them visible, however they still don't have all the properties of "normal" folders. If I want to send them all back to my Ipod, I have to go into each folder, highlight the Mp3s, and send them back. There are about 20 gigabytes of mp3s all together and this would be very time consuming.
Is there any way to convert the hidden folders into regular folders so that I could just drag and drop the whole thing? This would save a lot of time.
Thank you

In what way "properties of a regular file"? The hidden files I have investigated have basically been regular files except some invisibility feature (there's different ways) have been activated. Once I toggled them they became visible and acted like normal files. What is stopping them from being dragged into iTunes. What message do you get?

  • How to turn "imported tags" into regular tags

I have a new computer. The pictures are there and I've just installed PSE3. The organizer has found all the pics and asked me if I wanted to import all the tags so I said yes. Now how do I elevate each of these to category tags as they were before?
    Thanks.

Some questions to help me understand your sequence of actions and your environment -
1- Neither this thread nor your previous thread identified which version of Windows on your new PC - it is?
2- This thread seems to imply that you did not do a PSE Catalog Restore command on your new computer - but instead you imported your photo files to a newly created PSE 3 catalog on your new PC/laptop. Yes?
3- Did you have any Collections or Creations on the old machine whose definitions you wish to keep?
Comments - if you are newly importing photos, you may not have all of your photos tagged - because most probably the tags had not been written to all of the photo files on your all machine. Did you do a Write Tag Info to Files command on your old machine?
    Potential answer -
1- You may need to recreate the Category structure on your new machine and then drag and drop the Tags (within the Tag pane) under the proper Category. The Tag structure like Categories is only in the Organizer catalog file and not in the photo files.
    OR
2- Since it seems that you are going from PSE 3 to PSE 3, it may be possible for you to copy your catalog file from the old machine to the new machine. That may give you better results than redoing after importing.
More after you post some responses to my questions.

  • My iMessaging keeps turning into regular text messaging

My iMessaging always stops working, it works for a while then doesnt. It turns my messages into regular text messages, and i want it to stay on imessaging.

http://■On iPhone, if iMessage is unavailable, the message may be sent as SMS or MMS, depending on content. Carrier messaging rates may apply. You can adjust this behavior in iPhone at Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Messages sent using iMessage appear in a light blue bubble, while messages sent using SMS or MMS appear in a green bubble.

  • How do I create hidden folders in iweb

I switched to Mac from PC which means I lost FrontPage.  I have 6 small websites for my books and I need to rebuild these.  I don't have time to learn Dreamweaver at this time.  How do I create the essential hidden folders I need in iWeb to place the books for download?

    Thanks Kirk
I just wasted 6 hours before I realized this.  I'm so frustrated switching from PC to Mac.  The learning curve is tremendous and very frustrating. I've lost over a month of productivity due to little issues like this. Hopefully no one else will suffer.  Here's the remedy I came up with.
Basically iWeb cannot be used for anything other than basic vanity mini websites.  If you're doing ecommerce, need various folders or are using it to market products with downloads or anything needing protected, this is not the product to use.
For others with my issue, how do you update or change a FrontPage site when you no longer have it and no longer have a PC (most of the open source programs available for this only work on PC). My sites were built in FrontPage.  I needed to update and change them.  This is how to do it.
From the hosting panel with your hosting company use the FTP uploader. You need to save the entire FrontPage Website to your computer or an external harddrive. You can then open it and edit it in DreamWeaver. You may be able to do this with outher editors as well but this one I know you can. Dreamweaver can be rented on a month-to-month basis now and it does come with a 30 day free trial.
If you don't know how to do CSS style sheets, you will need to go into each open page, cut the text, past it into an rtf document in Mac.  Then, choose format and change it to 'plain text' and recopy and past into the open page of Dreamweaver.  This gets rid of the funky formatting FrontPage does and changes all the copy to <p> tags.  Then go into the code view in Dreamweaver and add the <h1> <h2> and other headings where needed. Dreamweaver does allow you to specify the attributes and create an in page CSS.
All of this is temporary but at least you'll be able to work on, edit and make changes even if you've lost access to a PC and FrontPage.  Eventually you will need to replace the entire FrontPage site

  • How can I get Finder to show me hidden folders I know are there?

Does anyone know how to make hidden folders visible like in Windows, or if there is even a way at all?
A few weeks ago my iPod kind of crashed and I lost my library, but the files are still on it. Anyone who is familiar with Windows knows you can just goto "folder options" and make hidden folders visible, which is how you can get into your iPod to access the individual music files.
I need and want to format the iPod but can't because I need my music off of it first and I get Finder to allow me to see the hidden folders. Please help!

Since I use the Terminal frequently I use it to transfer songs that are on my iPod back to various computers. However, if you aren't used to Terminal there are better options. See this page:

  • Can't hide Hidden folders and files.

    Hi All,
This past weekend I transferred my OS and apps to a newly installed SSD drive.
During the process I had to move some files around in order to get The OS and Apps on the SSD.
I used a technique that utilizes the Terminal and the chflags command.
My issue is now I can not hide the files and folders that are usually hidden.
I can't remember the exact method I used to unhide hidden folders and files. I can't even find a reference to it in my web browsers history.
I have searched on the web for solutions along these lines:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean FALSE ; killall Finder
    chflags hidden
    sudo chflags hidden
But none of these approaches have worked.
I have downloaded Onyx, TinkerTool and Show Hide Invisible Files.
I have used them as best I understand to hide the normally hidden files and folders, but nothing has worked.
Any Command Line gurus out there have any suggestions?
    Many Thanks in Advance!
    Tem

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
☞ Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
☞ In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
☞ What is the Modified date?
If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.

  • Hidden folders in Explore tab

    Hi,
Since upgrading to version 11.1.2.1, all Financial Reports and books that were existing in the Root directory are showing as Hidden when a user logs into Workspace. In order to see the folders/reports under the default directory (Root), we have to check the "Show Hidden" option in the View menu.
Recently, when we were trying to create a Scheduled Batch in EPMA, an admin user was not able to see any of the hidden folders when trying to select the batch file. Does anyone know how to make the report directories not hidden, so we don't have an issue with the batches? We did not have this problem in the previous version (11.1.2.0).
Thanks in advance for any help!

There are patches for 11.1.2.1 release. Please check the patches and downloads option in my oracle support. There will be patches for Foundation and FR.\
The latest for FR is Patch 13558484: Patch Set Update: 11.1.2.1.118 for Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting
Foundation:Patch 13704010: Patch Set Update: 11.1.2.1.119 for Oracle Hyperion Reporting and Analysis for Foundation
Again I am not sure whether this will resolve or not...but just a suggestion.

  • Stop hidden folders appearing in Templates (ie File:New... dialog)

    Hi All,
I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to be sweet out of luck on this one, but it's worth a shot...
We currently have two versioned folders for our company's reuse library (one in user.lib and one in instr.lib) so that things nicely appear on palettes without the need for 3rd party software etc. To complement this, today I was thinking that those VIT files we have could be even better placed in the Templates folder of LabVIEW so that when we go to File->New... we would be able to see our various company templates, etc....
However, when I tried this, the hidden folders etc that Subversion leaves also appear in the templates dialog so I end up seeing something simliar to this (there is only one VI, called "Wizard Dialog.vit" in the new templates folder right now):
    From Templates
    |-<Company Name>
    |     |-.svn
    |     |     |-prop-base
    |     |     |     |-Wizard Dialog.vit.svn-base
    |     |     |-text-base
    |     |     |     |-Wizard Dialog
    |     |     |-tmp
    |     |-Wizard Dialog
    |-DAQ
    |-Frameworks
    |-etc
Is there anyway to stop LabVIEW from showing the hidden Subversion files? (I tried turning on the setting to use _svn folders instead of .svn but got the same result)

    Here's the background:
Some of the issues that we have had with our reusable elements in the past is
    1. Ensuring that the various developers get the updates (ideally as automatic as possible)
    2. Ensuring that the process for creating new reuse elements and updating existing is as streamlined as possible. In particular, an earlier process required that each template, etc be manually reviewed by a panel. Whilst this sounds good on paper, what was happening was that the review board would often get busy and things just wouldn't happen.
We therefore wanted to look at other options for allowing more creative freedom to the various engineers that could keep the reuse library alive. It was thought that a versioned location in user.lib, instr.lib and templates would allow any of the engineers (of which almost all are at least CLD) to contribute, whilst retaining change history etc. In addition, developers can choose to use something like CommitMonitor to automatically keep their reuse library up to date (helping address #1).
With the user.lib and instr.lib locations, this has been working like a charm and the Templates folder was the next target on the list for the expansion as some reuse elements are designed to be customized, and needed to be more of a complete VI than a Merge VI (e.g. a dialog box requires controls to be specifically located as well as block diagram code). It was at this point that I tried creating a versioned sub-fodler within Templates, found the issue, and came here.

  • Songs in hidden itunes hidden folders not coming up

I had a problem where a large chunk of my songs in iTunes where not found.
I would click to play and it would ask me to locate the file.
I the proceeded to re-create my library using these steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Now, I notice that a lot of my music is not even in my library...although when searching my desktop i do find them in the iTunes hidden folders...
I've tried to undide the folders and then drag and drop into iTunes but it doesnt work...
Big question now is, how to I get all of those songs back in my iTUnes??
    Thanks,

    I just figured it out..lol
In case anyone has this problem.
go into Windows control panel and change settings so that you can see hidden files.
Then go into the folder where the hidden files are and select all of them, then right lick and uncheck the box so that files are no longer hidden.
Once files are no longer hidden you can just drag and drop into iTunes...booyaah!!

  • MY system folder, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac) How do I remove them

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac).  For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always.  I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run the following:
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"
Click on the Finder in the Dock with the Control and Option keys held down and choose Relaunch. Some third-party utility software will also do this.

  • Hidden Folders showing up in Color directory browser

Are the hidden folders supposed to show up when i browse my directories from within Color?
is this the way the program is supposed to work?
Anyone know is this is a bug and if it is will there be a fix for it soon?
    thank you in advance,
    ~X

Yep, they do. Color's not alone in this of course, but it does add to the clutter of navigation that's difficult enough without endless scrolling.

  • Deleting hidden folders and console.log files

I have heard that OS X logs activity of various programs and Applications in hidden folders/files.
Can someone please tell me how to view and delete this information in the hidden folder(s) without compromising my OS X system?
Also, how do I delete information in the console.log folders?
    Thank you.

    Hi Maverich!
The invisible files & folders are hidden for a reason!
If you don't know exactly what you are doing, you shouldn't muck about with them!
The Mac OS X is very good at protecting us from being our own worst enemy.
Your Mac runs Cron Scripts daily, weekly, & monthly, if the Mac is left on 24/7.
If you prefer, you may also choose to run them manually.

    Hi everybody !
I am a third year informatics learner, I am from Switzerland, an my mother tongue is french.
Now, am I searching for exporting the help (man) of the Terminal. In this last, the man occurs only for specified commands, or only some pages.
But I would like to export this Man (as in preview, or in pdf), to have it all.
Desperating of making this with Linux, I tried this with OS X mountain lion.
My last attempt was to type in the Terminal:
    manpath
it answered to me that it was in /usr/shared/Man
And I have shown the hidden folders and files, but: unfindable; I go in ./utilisateurs/partagé/ , there is no visible Man.
Could someone help me, please ?
    Thank you in advance.
