Turning ipod on

Sometimes when i want to turn my 30gig ipod on, all i have to do is turn the hold switch off and itll come on, other times i have to turn the hold swithc off then hold the center button. why is this the case?

Well, I think just the fact that your iPod is in hibernation when this happens is probably the case (as Bryan posted above).
To test it, you can leave your iPod off for a minute, then switch off the Hold switch. It ought to promptly turn back on with just that.
Then, you can leave it off for 14 hours (that how long it takes for your iPod to enter into Hibernation mode) then go to turn it on, maybe first by switching off the Hold switch, then clicking the Select button.
The Apple logo should appear on your iPod's screen (as if it were resetting) when you click on the Select button to exit Hibernation mode.

  • Since update, all songs have been deleted and i can't turn ipod off. HELP!!

since update, all songs have been deleted and i can't turn ipod off!! I updated the itunes software last week and the next time I synced the ipod, it immediately deleted all songs. After further investigation, i realized that my songs are still in itunes. Under the music tab, it shows the capacity and the content of the ipod. It used to have 4 gb of audio on there and now it have no audio and 4 gb of 'other' files. what does this mean? i can still see the songs in the library list, but i can't even make a playlist with them. When I click on playlist, nothing happens. Also, I can't turn the ipod off since the update. Please send any advice my way.
    Thanks,

yes, and the problem is unresolved. i really feel that the problem is occuring with the itunes program and not the ipod. thanks, though.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • White screen at when turning iPod on

When my iPod nano 2nd generation has been off for long enough (like 15 mins) and when I turn it back on, I get a completely white screen: it does it consistently. The iPod is on and I can hear the click when I use it. If I turn the iPod off again by holding the play/pause button long enough abnd turn it back on again, then the display is fine and shows me the menu. Anybody encountered the same problem? I did the 5 R's and restored the iPod twice (once resyncing my songs, and once not resyncing because I am planning to bring it back to Apple). I am very disappointed: I have waited 9 months since my birthday in January for a 8G iPod and just got this iPod yesterday. Now I have to bring it back to the store and I hope they will exchange it straight away: I am not willing to wait any more longer to be able to use a $261 iPod (with taxes).

    iPod nano 2nd generation

This has happened to me twice since I got my ipod this saturday. I noticed that it only did it when I had turned the ipod off while I was fooling around the the photo slideshows. If i hit menu twice then turned the ipod off it came back fine. It hasn't happened constantly with me but I would imagine that if it continues happening alot I will take it back to the store. For me, it would be a hard thing to prove.
    Hope I've helped abit.

  • Turning ipod on with headphones

Hi, this question may sounds stupid but I dropped my ipod touch this morning and I want to make sure everything is still working fine. My ipod is the latest generation. So the question, is it supposed to automatically turn on when you plug the headphones like it used to do with the older ipods or the ipod touch just doesn't do that?
    Thank you

If you take out headphones it pauses, if you put them back in it's still paused.

  • Error when turning Ipod on

I keep getting an error that says "Connect to Computer Use iTunes to Restore". It is written in multiple languages. I connect to iTunes and restore. It may work fine for 20 playings, it may work correct for one, but I get the same error.

    Check these out.
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point after disconnecting.

If it needs to be replaced, the iPod Classic will still be under the 12 month warranty.

  • Problem turning ipod on, need to hold down menu & center button

I have a 30gb ipod and it will not always turn on when i try to turn it on. I constantly have to hold the menu and center button down together to get it to turn on. It doesn't matter if it's charged, plugged in, just used, not used for a couple of days...it's random but it happens more often than not, I'd say 8 out of 10 or 80% of the time I have to turn it on that way. Is this normal or should I take it back while it's still under warranty? Otherwise, I have no problems with it. The battery life is great, etc...
    Thanks in advance!!
    Jen

I have a similar issue, Jen. I find that when I haven't turned mine on for, say, a day or more, I will press the play button to turn it on and nothing happens. Unlike you (you said you hold the menu and center buttons together, which sounds like a reset) I then press the menu button alone and then press play again. The darkened screen comes on with the "grayish" looking Apple logo...and all is well.
I've had my iPod for about 8 months, and I've been doing this since early on. I guess I always figured it just a minor bug and I would live it. If I'm still under warranty, wonder if I should consider raising the issue???

  • Must turn iPod off and back on to play a song

    Hello everyone,
Almost everytime I go to use my iPod after it has been turned off for more than a couple hours I have the following problem:
I can navigate through all menus, and select a song or video to play, but the song or video will not play. Instead, the song or video just sits at 0:00, forever.
    Hack Solution:
The only way to get any song or video to play is to turn off the iPod (by holding down on the play/pause button) and then turn the iPod back on. Once I have done this then I can play any song or video without a problem.
    Notes:
    1) I have sent my iPod to Apple for this problem, and they sent it back without doing anything saying they found no problem, even after they told me on the phone this kind of activity should never happen.
    2) I have reinstalled iTunes
    3) I have updated the iPod firmware
    4) I have reset the iPod
    5) I have restored the iPod
    6) I use Automatic Syncing
None of the above have solved the problem.
Thanks for any advice any of you can add!
iPod 5G 30GB Black Windows XP Pro

When I turn on the iPod it goes to the last menu I was in, or to the song that was playing when I turned it off. The apple logo never comes up. Yes, it responds right away (but it won't play songs). I only use the hold button when I put the iPod in my coat pocket, the use of the hold button has no apparent effect on whether or not my problem occurs.
I called Apple Tech Support this afternoon. They do NOT believe that my problem is a software problem.

  • Use G4 Modem and Wireless to turn IPOD touch into wireless phone?

Has anybody tried this? I bought a G4 off the ebay a while back to see if I even wanted to switch to a MAC. No I have a MAC mini and now a MAC Book Pro.
An 130GIG old IPOD 32GB Ipod Touch and a version 1 IPhone, it all started I guess with the Iphone.
The G4 has a modem built in. It would be cool to have an app on the Ipod that connect over the WAN and I could answer the phone with the IPOD touch or maybe an Iphone. The G4 could even act as an answering machine. Any ideas?

It isn't possible to turn it into a phone. You can use apps such as Skype, or FaceTime, but they are in no way a suitable replacement for a real phone.

  • Trouble turning iPod touch screen off

This problem started a few days ago. Sometimes (mostly at night for some reason) I have difficulty turning my screen off by the button at the top of my iPod. Pressing it once gives me the screen for turning my iPod off completely instead of going to a black screen. I have to press the home button and then press the top one to black out the screen. This has happened so far only after I change the music I'm listening to.
Also, occasionally I am able to turn the screen black and it will turn back on about a second later though I didn't touch anything.
Any help with one or both of these problems would be truly appreciated.

    (Never mind this post.)

  • Cannot Turn iPod off of Disk Use(!)

I have tried everything to get my iPod off of the disk function, so that when I plug it in it will start iTunes automatically. I have checked the right options under the iPod tab in iTunes, but it still does not change. I haave even used iPod updater to restore it, but it still is opening as a disk when I connect it to my computer. Any ideas?

I have had the same problem. I have found the following.
    1) Windows media player will see the iPod and try to sync. Somehow this "forces" it into disk mode. Just something I noticed on my PC.
    2) Someone on here posted that some anti-virus software will affect somehow into disk mode also. I have yet to confirm that. But my disk mode is turned off in iTunes and I still can see it as a disk at times. I have yet to pin it down to a certain pattern.

  • Need To Turn iPod Off???????

Is it necessary to move your iPod to the "Off" position when it is not in use??
I am asking because all the iPod cases that clip to your waist do not provide access to the "Off", "Play in Order", or "Shuffle Songs" button. Surely it is not necessary to take the iPod in and out of the case every time you use it.
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

I only turn my Shuffle OFF when it occasionally needs resetting or I'm charging it with the USB Power Adapter. Otherwise I just PAUSE it. After an hour or so the Shuffle puts itself to sleep and battery drain is minimized.

  • Turning iPod to backup hard drive (sorry if this is in the wrong place.)

Hello, I was wondering how I would be able to change my old iPod into just an external hard drive so I may use it for Time Machine

Here's how to turn your iPod into a storage drive.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131
Since Time Machine backs up at hourly intervals you'd need to leave the iPod connected at all times. Is this desirable?
Is it even possible to use the iPod with Time Machine? Not tried it myself.
