Turning off 'automatic downloads'

For the last few weeks, whenever I connect my iPhone (and possibly my iPad) I get an iTunes window asking me to "enter account name and password" for 'automatic downloads'. I don't understand what 'automatic downloads' are, and iTunes Help doesn't tell me how to stop this window popping up (Help just tells me how to set up automatic downloads).
Anyone here know what it's all about, and how to stop it?

This is a feature that lets you automatically receive items purchased from other devices.  Things you buy from your computer can be pushed to your iPhone, iPad, etc.  Things you purchase on your iPhone can be pushed ot your computer, iPad, etc.
If you don't want this:
In iTunes, go to Edit/ Preferences/ Store and turn off automatic downloads.
On all your iOS devices, go to Settings/ Store/ and turn off automatic downloads.

Can I turn off automatic download of Itunes Extras.  I never use them and have to delete them and they hold up downloads of what I want?
    Thanks

Thanks Michael. I had no idea that that menu was even there, and it seems odd that it's not accessible frome the regular menu bar (or is it??). But indeed, I do see it now and this may help. The reason I said this approach is still less than ideal is that it will require me to remember all of the accidental unflaggings between syncs to my computer, and then manually reflag everything.... and if I want to be sure to do it right I'll have to take notes etc, which is quite a burden just to get around something that used to work effortlessly and automatically until Apple "improved" it... But thanks!

I use the preferences in ITUNES to turn off automatic down loads and every time i start iTunes it  tries to force me to sign to an ICLOUD account and automatic download. I have tried everything I can find on apple help sites. But you Apple carefully stays away from the subject of how to make it stay off. I have 10.9.4 system

  • How do I turn off automatic downloads in Yosemite 10.10?

Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10, the App Store is automatically downloading updates.  This creates an issue as my internet access is through Hughes Net satellite.  I have a daily download allowance.  The updates often quickly suck up my entire allowance causing me additional charges for an additional allowance.  I need to shut off automatic downloads/updates and can't find where to do this.  Please help.

Go to system preferences>app store. Uncheck "automatically check for updates."

  • How do i turn off automatic downloads

So i recently bought the iphone 5c and was downloading some apps that i havent had b4 on my moms/brothers iphone 4s and the apps i downloaded on my phone also downloaded on his phone becuase i am the only one with the apple id and i dont think he likes it when i download like 5 apps and they end up on his phone autotimaticly

It is in Settings>iTunes & App Stores to change automatic downloads. But it isn't your device that needs to be changed if you are the one that made the download. He needs to turn off the setting for automatic downloads on his phone. I'm guessing here, but you are all sharing the same Apple ID?

  • HT4915 My iPod touch will not let me turn off automatic downloads and match is clogging up everything will downloads that I don't want. Help!

After getting the match program my iPod is trying to download my entire library from the cloud. I have too much music and not enough space so it is constantly running trying to download and I haven't figured out a way to stop the downloads so that I can get what I want. When trying to deselect the automatic downloads it slides back to on. Is there a way to stop this madness? I can't even listen to what music I do have on it.

Having automatic downloads on does not cause iTunes Match to automatically download your Match library to your device.  It only causes new purchases made on another device with the same ID to automatically download to your device.
Try turning off iTunes Match on your device, then turn it back on.  If it's still downloading unwanted media, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store, tap your ID, sign out, then sign back in.

  • How do I turn off Automatic Download?

Lately, iTunes on my computer has been evil with me. It's been acting up by crashing or not letting me download videos when it gives me the "error 50" message. Every time, I open up iTunes on my computer it starts downloading the Digital Copy of Rise of the Guardians and True Blood season 5. So how do I stop the iTunes program on my computer from automatically downloading? It is really annoying. My computer is a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.

  • How do I turn off automatic downloads in Safari 8.0?

I was given a link to read a document. When I clicked on it, I did not get a browser window or tab with the document. Instead, it went to a blank page and a document went into my Downloads folder. How can I prevent this behavior? I want (at least) a dialog box that asks me to approve or cancel any download before it happens. I am using Safari 8.0.3, with the System Yosemite 10.10.2.

Go to system preferences>app store. Uncheck "automatically check for updates."

  • How do I turn off automatic downloads on Itunes to my PC?

I have one apple ID for our family.  My sons download tons of music and apps, most of which I have no interest in. However, when I open Itunes, all of their stuff downloads to my PC which is taking up too much room.  I don't want their music on my computer.  How can I stop their songs and apps from downloading?  I've tried checking the obvious boxes in Preferences, but the downloads begin as I'm checking the boxes.
    Any suggestions?

For TV series and Movies, they should only ever download to your computer if they are 'Unwatched' episodes/features.   If so, go to the TV Shows and/or Movies section in iTunes (under Library pane on the left of your screen).  If there are 'Unwatched' episodes, a little red circle with a number in it should appearin the corner of every TV show cover.  Just right click each cover and select 'Mark as watched'.  They should stop downloading then.
As for music, I suppose Jon_E may be right.  And it's not elegant, but that's iTunes!  Why Apple outsourced the development of some of it's most heavily used software to a third party developer is beyond me.  It should really be a little more intuitive.  Surely they've received plenty of feedback to that effect?
    Good luck!

    2) Select "Alerts"
    3) select the Profile you like to adjust
    4) Select App Alerts
    5) Select Email
    6) You sould see your 3 mail accounts listed
    7) Select the one you like to "mute" and you can set everything (sound, LED, vibration etc. individually for this acount)

I followed the instructions given to turn my automatic download icon in my iphone 3 and still goes back to off position. Any idea how to fix this issue without getting a new one?

Something may have gone amiss on your iPhone.
To attempt to correct this follow these steps:
Backup your iPhone using iTunes or iCloud.
Use iTunes to completely restore your iPhone as Factory new.
Monitor battery usage to see if it is normal. If not, you may have a hardware problem - if so, contact Apple support.
Restore your iPhone from your backup above.
Check battery usage to confirm that it is still normal.

  • I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads, but I see an alert that says 'This device is already associated with an apple ID.'

I recently bought a new ipod 4 gen 32 G. I had an 8 g .I'm trying to turn on automatic downloads so when I buy a song from Itunes it automatically downloads without plugging it into computer to sync.  When I turn on Auto Downloads, It say...This device is already Associated with an apple ID You can auto-download purchases on this device with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this device with a different Apple ID for 30 days. When I click OK it turns th downloads off..Can someone help me? I've returned the 8g to regular factory settings as I'm giving it to a friend.

    You have to wait. See:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
You can still sync the media from your iTunes library

  • How do I turn off automatic streaming of MP3 audio?

I like to download podcasts directly to my desktop so I can later transfer them to my Sansa media player. Now that I've installed Quicktime podcasts stream and play automatically in my Firefox browser window. What settings do I change to turn off automatic streaming of MP3 audio?

Well, in fact I have the same problem. And by the way, I dislike marketing tricks as proposing that you buy the pro-version of quicktime if you ever want to download mp3-files again (as a right click on the quicktime browser-player does).
I already switched off every file link and stream-related ghismo that points towards quicktime as player, in the quickime control in control panel as wel on any other place I could find.
But the only thing I acchieved is, that IE now starts downloading as soon as I go to a link to an MP3 file and after some time it says "ready".
An firefox stubbornly keeps opening the quicktime player.
I tend to disagree with IE as I can't find any file on my system, with regardless what searching technique.
Is there a way to get things back to normal without uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling my browsers (wich is useless as Itunes will prompt me to reinstall quicktime)???
