Turning off backlight?

I have a Video iPod. The backlight is set to turn off after 5 seconds, which it does. However, for some time, there is a very faint backlight that remains on. I can still see all of the menu items. It's very dim but visible. Is there a way to turn this off or is its power use negligible?
Thanks,
Brett

Some lcd's when backlit do maintain a charge for awhile. Not sure of the exact time, but I have a pda that glows for awhile after the backlight turns off. If it goes completly dark then there is probably not a problem. I doubt that it is using much power if it is that dim.. you can however do a battery test to see if you are getting all you should from your battery.. here is a site http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61475
there is some discussion as to what an acceptable number in percent is. But it it is like the link says a significant number in your opinion I would contact Apple, either on the phone, store, or here http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

  • Thinkpad Yoga Brightness turn off backlight

I have an "issue" with my Yoga.
It used to be that when I turned down brightness completely the screen would go black because there was no more backlight at all.
However it now seems that even completely turned down there is still some backlight left meaning i can't turn off the screen completely.
I really like being able to turn off the screen quickly, for example to save battery when rendering or when I leave the laptop unatended and don't want people to see what im working on.
Is there any way to get the old behaviour back?
Not quite sure what caused the change in but im guessing some kind of driver update...
    Running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

Usually Intel graphics drivers don't have "backlight off" as the lowest setting, so in principle, this was a 'bug' that was 'fixed'.
You could roll back your graphics driver and see if it brings back this functionality. I'd just pin something like LCDoff to the taskbar though.

  • Turning Off Backlight Causes Kernel Panic Lenovo y550p Laptop

Recently my Lenovo y550p has started with an issue that seems to be persistent with others using a similar hardware profile with newer 3.1 kernels.
When using the function keys, or letting the screen backlight turn off after a certain amount of time through power settings, upon turning the screen back on I receive a kernel panic. The issue has been documented here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=748210, by others with the same issue. I haven't seen anything for this with Arch and was wondering if it will be looked into or if a fix is known?
    Thanks

Glad I'm not the only one. My temporary solution was to download the kernel and wl package from December 2012 found http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/ and then mkpkg and install it. It'll work as an alternative for now, without messing up the primary kernel setup.

  • Turning off backlight while docked???

Hi all: Is there a setting to turn off the backlight while docked or other connected? Seems silly to have the screen light on all the time? When I put my imac to sleep then the backlight is shut down, but while the imac is UP the light ALWAYS stays on.
    Thanks, Chris.
PS, my Dell Axim PDA has a setting to turn off the backlight while docked.

Problem solved. Seems that if you have iTunes set to "Enable Disk Use" the light will stay on. Disabling this will make the iPod go dark once any sync activity is complete. However, you will not be able to directly copy to the iPod disk and it will not appear on the desktop.

  • Auto turn off backlight keyboard T430

    Hello,
is it possible to set the keyboard illumintaion that it turns off when I dont use the keyboard for X minutes?
The illumination is really annoying, when watching something. And turning it off manually is really bothering.
Dell Vostro has it, is it also possible on thinkpads?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I would like to inform you that as of now, there is no such settings available to turn off the backlit keyboard after a certain period of inactivity. The backlight automatically turns completely off only when the screen goes off or when the machine goes to sleep. I personally think that what you have suggested would be an incredibly useful one and our engineers will take it as a great suggestion to implement the same.
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

  • Can't turn off backlight keyboard in XP How long this problem will live?

    I'm using MBP 15" 2.66Ghz (late 2008 model)
My Windows XP SP3 with Bootcamp 3.0 most of the things work well except backlight keyboard, I tried to press F5 to reduce backlight to minimun but backlight still there so annoying me even more every times I boot into Windows XP backlight will reset itself to maximum amount of light. ==" Anyone got an ideal how to solve or just waiting for Apple engineer to fix it but when I've seen this problem long long time ago.... Srry for my bad english.

Finally figured it out. In case anyone else has the same problem of your computer ignoring changes in the Face Tracking Utility screen, try this:
Go to Webcam Center. Click on "Capture" then the "Source" tab, one of two discrete grey tabs just above the video screen.
Under "Extended Settings" you have the options for face tracking: off, continuous or smart. Click it and your computer should actually hold onto this setting until you change it again!
    Good luck.

  • Backlight goes on when waking from sleep, then turns off.

A little bit of water got into the keyboard of my iBook G4 14" last night. Mopped it up and it was fine for two hours after that. This morning, the backlight will not turn on unless you close the display lid, and it will flash on for a split second, then turn off again, which is different from most questions I see posted here. Of course, I can still see the image on the display by putting it close to light. Suggestions?

    Same issue.
Often my MBP (1.83 GHz, 1.5 GB RAM) will not wake from sleep initially. If I close the cover and wait till the HD goes silent and then reopen, it will wake up. It's interesting though that even while in this condition, if an email comes in, there is a notification chime, so it seems that it is not really sleeping, just that the screen is black.
There is no problem if the computer has been sleeping for some time (more than 5 or 10 minutes) and the mouse is not moved, the power cord or my external mouse has not been connected or disconnected or the machine has not been moved so that the motion detector notices, but if any of those things hav happened, then it is a problem waking up.
I've replaced the RAM twice. At Apple Care's suggestion I did an Archive and Install. They suggested that if that did not work, to do an erase and install and then bring in my programs and data piece by piece. they think that it might have been caused by the initial migration of data from my former computer.
What has Apple Care told you??

  • Screen not blanking properly (Backlight doesn't turn off)

I've been facing a weird problem lately. Whenever I leave my laptop on for a while when I'm logged on in X (I use KDE), the screen turns off after 10 minutes. All well and good. But whenever the laptop idle when logged on to a virtual console, after 15 minuites of idling, the display blanks, but the backlight stays on. The display becomes a wall of white. Is there any way to make the backlight switch off as well along with the screen blanking? I'm not using pm-utils or acpid to manage power on the virtual console right now. I'm using the logind.conf defaults.

For future reference, don't assume that people will see your signature.  Not only do most people disregard signatures, but there is the ability to turn off the signatures in your user settings.

  • N8 backlight wont turn off and cant change default...

    hi guys
---i got little problem here. my display backlight turns off only when I lock the phone-with button,or automaticly. I think it is suppose to turn off after the time that i can set in settings-> phone->display-light time out(5sec to 60 sec). its not a huge problem,i can always just use the button,or set screen/key lock time to minimal limit (60sec), but anyway, its **bleep** me of...fyi-> no app is runnung in background
--- than,I cant really change my default browser. of course i changed my default browser in applications setting to Opera mobile, but everytime i,lets say, click on some link on facebook (doesnt matter if i use SNAPTU or SOCIAL NETWORKS app) it opens default browser...
yeah, and just for inspiration- what facebook client do you recommend? default one is quiet good only if it would show notifications....

This is the intentional behavior! The backlight only turns off if the display/key lock is active! Light time out (5 to 60sec) is only for lowering the brightness!
About the default application thing, this happens here too. Its a bug Can you report it using that form please?! http://www.forum.nokia.com/forms/Report_a_bug.xhtml

  • GT70 Turn off Display LED Backlight

Does anyone know how to turn off the DISPLAY LED Backlight when using an external monitor on a GT70 running 64bit windows 8?

You mean display all only on external?
Just righclick desktop and go to resolution setting. Set screen output only on external. You can do it in Intel graphic card settings too.
You can use Fn button on keyboard too. If i good rember FN + F2(just check images on buttons).
If you want to have 2 monitors but from some reasons you want to turn of screen on build in for some moment there is button to do next to power button 0 right side.

  • Displays backlight doesn't turn off completely!?

When I fade off the backlight of the display there is a spot in the center where i still can see what is displayed, the rest is dark. It seems also that this spot grew in the last time a bit.In the dark this spot is clearly more light than the rest of the display. its about the size of a golf ball.
Anyone who has the same "problem"? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!

Are you sure it is not just a result of room light bleeding in through the back of the case where the Apple logo is? With the MacBook turned off or sleeping, look at the dark screen while holding the MacBook up to a window. You will see that outside light from the window shines through the Apple logo and the screen. Could that be what you are seeing?

  • How do I keep the backlight from automatically turning off

I have an Ipod Nano Multitouch and the backlight turns off after about a minute and I have to press the awake/sleep button in order to do anything.  Is there any way I can keep the backlight on for longer?  I find it a pain to be constantly having to press buttons in order to skip a song, shuffle etc, especially when I am at the gym or out walking.

    Thanks planb77, appreciate your answer.
I suspected that was the case, but thought it worth a shot asking.  It would be much easer if one could just touch the screen to view the screen, rather than having to fiddle with buttons, espec when you're exercising!
