Turning off display resizes open windows

This happens through power settings, or manually using the monitor power button. Does not happen if restarting with open windows.
Something is also turning off the sceen saver from time to time. Happens with corded or wireless mouse. Using corded USB keyboard.
No problems at all in this area with Vista.
I have tried every setting I can think of; and have'nt yet found any help through web searches.

Windows 7 (clean install); newest compatible BIOS, chipset, video, and audio drivers.

Here is a solution that created a solution for me, with extra directions at the end since only doing what MichealAtOz states didn't solve the problem for me:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-movesresizes-windows-on-monitor-power/1653aafb-848b-464a-8c69-1a68fbd106aa
"I have found a work-around.
Using Sysinternals ProcessMonitor I found that Windows was accessing the following Registry path;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
My system had three entries;
DELF003YY7707BR0MUL_30_07D7_6A^9A3774EB79DEE3E3E38496CC7DF4D936
QHD32000001_31_07D6_D5^63E1ABDD175E7871DCAEB710418A0F75
SIMULATED_8086_2A42_00000000_00020000_1010100^CDE365D1B3F0942F0CF38BFB8E127AB4
Under each is a tree called "00" two of the keys are
PrimSurfSize.cx
PrimSurfSize.cy
Under "00" was another branch also called "00" two of the keys are;
ActiveSize.cx
ActiveSize.cy
The first two of the configs (ie DELF00... & QHD3...) the above keys were 1440x900,
so they were not involved.
The third (SIMULATED...) were set to 1024x768.
I changed these to 1600x900 and the problem was solved.
Further I changed resolution (via control panel) to 1920x1080, the moving/resize issue returned,
but the lower right corner was set to 1600x900, ie the SIMULATED... settings."
Use MichealAtOz's advice but within all the folders that are labeled "00" or "01", (etc, I had 00 and 01) look for any settings that contain 1024, 768, or I 4096 in the data values at the end in parenthesis. Change the 1024 to the x resolution of your desktop
(the first number in resolutions) and the 768 to the y resolution of your desktop. Change the 4096 number of "Stride" to whatever number there already is in a "00" or similar titled folder that
already has (without you changing them) the desired desktop resolution numbers in primsurfsize.cx and ...y. Right click the name and choose modify, then select binary as the base to enter correct resolution
values.
Hopefully this makes sense - it solved the issue for me.
I LOVE YOU!!
This has been annoying me ages and I finally decided to get to the bottom of it. After trawling through endless pages of MS engineers telling people to update their drivers, and the sage advice of, "have you turned it on and off?", I stumbled across this.
Great job, fixed my problem with a 5 second registry tweak.

  • "Fit screen to full display" and turn OFF "Fit screen in window"

I like being able to access my 24" iMac from my 13" MacBook Pro using ARD.
There's one feature that I'd really like but which seems to be missing: I want to "Fit screen to full display" but be able to TURN OFF "Fit screen in window" (that button disappears when you go to full screen).
In other words, I want to view my iMac's screen at actual pixel size, where the screen scrolls as you move the mouse to the edges of my smaller MacBook screen, but NOT in a windowed mode.  That way I'm maximizing my MacBook screen real estate but not having to strain to read a miniaturized version of the iMac screen.
I'm assuming this just isn't an option, but if anyone knows of a solution I'd love to hear it!
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You could always request it as a feature through Apple Remote Desktop Feedback.

  • Help turning off feature that opens all pages and numbers docs.

How can I turn off feature that opens all numbers and pages documents each time I open the respective program?

What version of OS X are you using? That information will help in providing a specific solution.
If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button.
Other things you can do to turn off this resume feature:
In Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks you can set System Preferences > General to close windows when quitting an application.
Try Mountain Tweaks The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. This solution does not work in Mavericks.

  • Why does my music turn off when I open Safari on my iPhone 5c?

I noticed that my music turns off when I open safari on my iPhone 5c. What's the deal?

I figured out this will happen if any of the pages that are open in safari on your phone are open to a page that contains media.  Note this means any page regardless of whether it's the one you are viewing.  So if you go to a site that has media, then open a new browser window and go to a page that doesn't have media and then open iTunes and play a song...when you switch back to safari, the music will stop.  If you close the first browser window and try it again...the music will continue to play.

  • Msi p45 platinum - freezes after power save turns off displays

Just put this computer together, everything is stock, no overclocking. Seems to run fine, played a few hours of modern warfare 2 with no issues.
I noticed It seems to freeze after the monitor gets turned off by the power save mode. I just tested this by setting it to turn off displays after 1 minute of inactivity, waited watched the monitor turn off, then I went to the move the mouse and the screen came back on but the cursor would not move. sometimes the screen will not even come back on.
I have turned the computer on, left the room while it was booting to eat breakfast or take a shower, came back the screen was still on but the computer was frozen. Window 7 login screen was up, but there were some graphic glitches. this has happened a couple of times.
If I manually put the computer to sleep it seems to come back properly.

  • Turning off Opportunistic Locking in Windows 2012 Server?

I have recently switched my database hosting and am having trouble with "Hour Glass" for about 20-30 seconds when trying to save files.  I have contacted my application company (Resumate..........database,CRM built on an ACCESS type platform)
    and we are brainstorming solutions.
One solution is to turn off opportunistic locking as Windows might actually be locking the file (We have five users using the same file connecting using Remote Desktop Services).  Our system has worked seemlessly with our other hosting
option but this delay when trying to save files is not acceptable.
SO, HOW DO WE TURN OFF OPPORTUNISTIC LOCKING IN WINDOWS SERVER 2012 R2?
    Thanks Phil H.   Charlotte, NC

    Hi,
As you may notice that we cannot disable Opportunistic locking in using SMB2 or SMB3.
    See:
    https://login.live.com/kb/296264/en-us
The opportunistic locking registry keys are valid only for traditional SMB (SMB1). You cannot turn off opportunistic locking for SMB2.
From your description it is the limitation of the application - SMB2 comes with Windows Vista /Windows 2008, which means the vendor of the application did not recommend to use SMB2 or the application is released for earlier systems while SMB2 is not available
    at that time.
If there is no update version, you can try to disable SMB2/3 on server to workaround it. Please run this cmdlet:
    Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableSMB2Protocol $false
    More information please refer to:

  • Alarm clock on iPad turns off when I open cover:

Recently (the last 2 weeks) when I have an alarm on my iPad set to go off in the morning, this is what happens: I hear the alarm going off. I open the cover to hit snooze. In the past, when I opened the cover, I had the option of hitting snooze or ok. (Ok to turn off alarm clock alarm.). The odd thing that's been happening now is, when the alarm goes off, the minute I open the cover, the alarm stops. I can't hit snooze or OK, because opening the cover is triggering the alarm to turn off. I haven't changed any settings. No one else uses my iPad 2. It's not happening every day, just randomly. I have rebooted my iPad, but it still does it. (more often than not!). Thanks

  • Using Windows won't turn off display

When I am using Windows on my MacBook, I have set my Windows power options to turn off the monitor after 1 minute of not being used. The display never turns off. Is this a Windows or a MacBook problem? I tried setting it to 5mins, 10mins... Nothing works. I don't want to have my display on when I leave my desk.

IIRC, there are power management issues with running Windows on the MacBooks. Could be wrong, but I think I recall hearing this.
This would be up to Apple to fix via driver updates if it is indeed the case.

  • Turn off display without shutting down?

I'm downloading a pretty large update (nearly 4GBs @ 190 hours estimated time) to my office computer (a Mac Pro w/ large display) and I would like to shut off the screen display, yet leave the computer on over the weekend. Reason being is that I am the only Mac in the entire building and well...lots of curious,  lookie-loos like to salivate over my machine. Usually, I simply Log Out every night.

    Grant Bennet-Alder wrote:
4GB should not be taking 190 hours to download. That is about the size of the 10.7 download, and if you get lucky that should be done in an hour.
You can turn off your display whenever you please, with impunity. If you have multiple displays, you may find all your open windows on the "last display standing" when you resume.
tzbikowski wrote: your best bet would be to leave it in clamshell mode and switch off the screen http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Are you referring to a MacBook Pro? I have the tower.
As far as the time to download...I  noticed we were having connectivity/transmission issues before I left the office. Not sure why.
So Grant, are you saying that I can put the computer to sleep and it will still download the files? I have to go back into the office tomorrow so I'll check to see if transmission improved.
    Thanks all!
