Turning off GMail (and other) sounds

can someone please clue me in to how i turn off sound alerts for GMail or whatever it is that keeps beeping on my laptop?
these things are making me crazy and i can't get any work done.

You can always set a new sound
In System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects you can later the loudness of the Alert sounds compared to the Master volume - much the same way you can turn iTunes up in the app as well as altering the Master volume.

I am using CS 5 in Win 7 Pro, 64 bit and have all system sounds turned off in control panel and also have the Play Windows Startup Sounds box unchecked, but I still get a sound that reminds me of the warbling a suddenly released spring makes, every time Ps. opens. Then I get a loud pop every time it closes. I have searched many times for a way to turn off this useless racket but have found no help. Is it possible that PS has it's own hidden clipboard that might be the source of these sounds? If so I hope someone knows how to snatch the thing out by the roots. Please do not tell me to turn off my speakers or stop using my computer. I only want an answer for stopping two sounds that Photoshop makes..

I would try what Chris suggested. There's the possibility of a grounding loop somewhere. Start with cables (since they're the cheapest solution) used in your audio setup and work your way up from there, all the way up to your audio interface and its drivers.

I had the same problem when i dl-ed a new anti-virus softward, but what I did help me reconnect Firefox again!
Here is what I did,
Go to open firefox browser-->option-->advanced-->network-->settings-->and change it to auto-detect proxy settings for this network!

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

How to turn off the touch interface sound?

Model: HP Touchsmart IQ826t
Finally get to use this machine the way it was intended now that Windows 8 is out, but the touch interface sound is bothersome. Seems as though it should be the easiest thing in the world to turn off.. but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Ive searched the web high and low..even seen others ask this same question with no response whatsoever.
How do I turn off the touch interface sound?? (the 'beep' sound made when my finger makes contact with the screen) Ive tried going to the now updated 'Pen and Touch' (previously HP Touchsmart Configurations) settings under the 'Hardware and Sound' in the Control Panel and..nothing.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How can I turn off the sounds of the firefox? I don't want to turn off my whole computer sounds, but just the sounds which comes from the internet. Is there any master button?

All the websites doesn't allow you to turn off the sounds, but that is just the thing I need to do. So how can I turn off the web browsers sounds? This is so small thing, that I refuse to believe that this kind of button doesn't exits.

In Vista you can set the volume and mute setting for each application separately in the volume mixer.
You can click the Volume icon on the Windows Taskbar near the clock and click the Mixer link at the bottom to open the mixer.<br />
You can adjust the volume level for each application in that window.<br />
You will only see the Firefox program in the Mixer if you are on a website that plays sound.

Turn off new mail notification sound for a particular folder?

Is there any way to turn off new mail notification sound for a particular folder? I want new mail sound for my in box and most other folders but for example when I filter high-volume mail lists into a sub folder I don't want the new mail sound to play.

I cannot change song order on playlist with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column( up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8 and am using itunes 10.4.

No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

Does anyone know how I do this? I contacted my ISP (Telus in Canada) and they did not know anything (not that they usually do).

Why do ISPs insist upon making things so difficult for their customers?

You will need to log in with proper "technician" credentials. They are provided in the above link as
Username: tech
Password: t3lu5tv
... but these may or may not work. Try it, and if you cannot get anywhere at least now you know what to ask Telus to do in return for your business.

Can't turn off iCloud and F'd up my Calendar

I have an iPhone with my Work calendar Synced with my work computer (outlook Calendar). Also, I have iMac 27" i5 with my Home calendar (iCal).   This has worked fine and separetly for the last 3years. My home calenders allow me to organise my life with payments and is very important. My work calendar, well that speaks for it's self.
I install iOS5 on iPhone and Lion on the iMac which unbekownence to me have iCloud syncing on and doing stuff that has totally corupted my iMac Home Calendar.
My home calendar has my work calander mixed in with my home calendar and reminders popup every few minutes that I have already dissmissed. They won't stop popping up. The same one over and over and they go back a month or more.
Additionally, when I try to add an event it sometimes puts it in very day instead of a monthly re-ocurring event and then it won't delete the event when I try to fix it.
I've tried to turn off iCloud, and it does all the right things and appears to turn off but then when I go back in it is on again.
The Work Calendar (Windows 7 Office 2010) doesn't show any symptoms and has kept working as it should on my work computer as on the iPhone. Neither appear to be effected
I've tried all the delete files and reinsralls but iCal seems to just get more confused. It renames calendars and is totally out of control to the point of no return.
I can't find any where which shows how to delete iCal and do a fresh install of iCal and not have iCloud sync.   I have searched Google for months and months with no joy.
What I need is to stop iCloud and **** it off permently as it appears to be a problem for how I use my apps. I do not want to use iCloud for calander or anything just yet.   I need to get my original .ics backup in iCal that I have and working on it's own and with out the cloud or syncing.
Help anyone ...
P.S.   I have only one profile, Admin.
          I've tried another profile and it replicates and operated worse than the Admin account with iCal.
          Also I have time machine back to August 2011. I've tried all the Google fixes and none have worked

Sorry for taking so long to get back. But the thing was none of the instruction where able to get the iCloud turned off. If anything it is for someone who moves between the Local and the iCloud than turnng off iCloud.
I want to turn off iCloud syncing in my System Preference and iCal. iCal is syncing with iCloud and I do not want that. My iPhone is syncing with iCloud and I don't want that either. I never enabled these options and had to find out where they were before I could even start trying to turning them off.
