Turning off ipod mini

think I'm going mad; I fully charge my ipod mini, play it short while, e.g. in car on way to work, turn it off then come to go home and the **** thing has turned itself on and been playing away and run the battery down. I've tried all I can to make sure its turned off but over a period of time its driving me nuts. Makes it useless as the battery is always run down or I get less than 1hr use before having to recharge! HWLP!

You most likely have the alarm set. Check calendar events also.

  • When I turn off my mini, and at other random times, i get a message saying I need to restart my computer

When I turn off my mini, and at other random times, i get a simple message that says I need to restart my computer.  any suggestions?

The message to restart your computer, in multiple languages, is a kernel panic. This is usually, but not always, caused by hardware, with memory being the leading cause.
You might want to run the Apple hardware test, which is on the original gray-faced OS X disks that came with the mini. FInd the one that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label, insert and reboot holding the alt/option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. You can also download Rember from http://kelleycomputing.net/rember/ if you want to really test the memory. Set it up and let it run over night.

  • Does turning off iPod erase iPod diagnostic data

When ever safari crashes I understand that it keeps that data and next time you connect it appears as diagnostic data. I always turn off/on my iPod touch when that happens. My question is that turning off iPod erase iPod diagnostic data? Is it necessary to turn off the iPod to stop crashing?

I've not seen anything official but it is true in my limited experience that turning the iPod touch off does seem to clear that crash info. In my first two crashes I was offered to send info to Apple the iPod touch was connected to my iMac. In my latest two crahes I've turned the iPod off before connecting to iTunes and was not offered the chance to send info to Apple this time. Will continue to monitor.

  • Lock screen - does it really turn off ipad mini?

....because i do this and i still hear the email chime.
i know i can go under sounds and select none for email. i know i can mute the whole ipad.
does it really power down when i tap lock screen?

Ive had 3 iPads now including a Mini and I have never really seriously used the off/on switch at the side of the device. I find that as long as I power down all the hidden Apps so that all of them are off, it sleeps without loosing much power. I only turn off my Mini in theaters...
I only have one hand so I can't do a reboot using both hardware buttons, that's my issue?

  • Turning off ipod is a strange design

Turning off ipod by holding play/pause seems a really dim-witted design to shutdown anything. For one it does not ALWAYS work.
Has anyone complained about this design?
For crying out loud can’t an Apple engineer come up with an on/off switch I'm sure if they do China can make it. Heck make it an option I'd even pay extra for it.

Adding another switch just to turn off the ipod would add parts and that lowers reliability and increases cost, so I can see why the ipod doesn't have a dedicated on/off switch.
On the other hand, it should be smart enough to turn the screen off when commanded; if it still has disk housekeeping to do it could finish that up in the background, then actually turn itself off.
I decided long ago to just forget about this whole issue, I just let my ipod turn itself off when it is good and ready. Having it run on for a few extra minutes uses a miniscule amount of battery anyway.
    Don't worry, be happy.

  • Turning the iPod Mini OFF

Using the click wheel, I can pause easily but turning the iPod off is really difficult. I don't know whether I'm holding the Pause button down too long, not long enough or if there's an easier way.
It seems when I turn my iPod off the battery lasts longer than when I pause it and it falls into a deep sleep.
What can I do to make it easier to turn my iPod off?

    Hi Sparklefufu;
I was having problems shutting down my iPod Mini. Then it got itself into a state where it needed to be reset it. I wasn't able to get reset to work. I brought to the Apple store and they reset it. They then asked me to reset it. It appears I was applying too much pressure. When I applied only enough pressure to make the switch click it worked. Now the shut down is working for me every time.

  • Turning off iPod nano

I just bought me an iPod nano the other day. It seems to work perfect, and I'm not having any scratch related problems.
I do have one problem though, sometimes my nano won't seem to turn off. Holding the play/pause button is the right action, I know that, and it works.. Sometimes, but not allways.
I can't event chose the "sleep" option and get it to turn off, it just plain ignores my commands.
So I just wanna know if anybody else have had this problem, and if so, how to you fix it?
    Thx
    Johannes

I might have had the same problem as you are having. First of all it seems that the nano takes a longer time to turn off than previous ipods. Try holding it down for a long long time. If that doesn't work then there might be a manufacturing problem with the button. When I tried to turn mine off it would go off for half a second and then turn back on. Right now I'm in the process of replacing my nano with Apple.

  • Turning off ipod nano, turning off ipod nano

Always find the most obvious functions conveniently left out by the Apple engineers including how to turn off the ipod Nano.
Ironically it is always resources 'outside' Apple that usually has the answers..
There is so little information available on it, and many theories including the fact that it is still a 'bug'?
    Please enlighten me.
Very disappointed at your poor user interface and repeated signing into the same user name/ account.. just to write this bit of info..

  • Shutting Off iPod Mini / Terrible Bass EQ

I just got a refurb iPOD mini 4GB from the apple refurb listing. This thing is like new. The batt shoud last 18 hours but I haven't gotten that even with very light use. I think this thing wakes up alone but I just turned off the alarms. OK
What other ways can completley shut the iPod instead of sleeping it by the menu & holding the play buttun. ( Off / instead of sleeping).
I also noticed that when I set an EQ with more bass, it sounds terrible with the earbuds and even with an expensive pair of wrap-around headsets from Phillips. Even my 1GB shuffle sounds more punchy. What gives????????
    Mac Mini 1.25   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Superdrive, 1GB

yes i have the same problem!
but i've had my ipod for only 5 days!!
and it's a new one because the previous one had the same problem, so i got a new one instead.
    which ***** because it's broken !!
    aaargh !!

  • Turned Off iPod Touch 1st Gen During Restore. Did I kill it?

My 1st Generation iPod Touch wasn't being detected by iTunes so I chose the reset option that erases all data. While it was restoring, I thought it froze because the white progress bar under the apple stopped midway and I turned the iPod off. Now when I switch it on, the black screen with the apple logo switches on for about 10-seconds, and then the iPod powers off. My mac doesn't detect it and I've tried holding the home and the sleep key. What else can I do?

If I were you I would call Apple about this problem

  • If I turn off Mac Mini Mid2011, LED doesn't turn black.

I turned off the Mac Mini Mid 2011. BUT, the Mac Mini's Light(White LED) doesn't want to turn off and the only way to COMPLETELY shut down is to force shut down.I'm worrying about bad sectors so I'm asking.
Is there any way to solve?

I just want to know if I turn off iMessages and iCloud Back up, and ONLY use SMS myself and my family just SMS's me - and do this on my PHONE ONLY and not touch his ipad (so he doesn't know), if he will get any of my messages I send or receive on his ipad please. Its just a temp thing and I just want to take action myself on my own phone and want to know if this will work. Does anyone know?
SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
    Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.
    Best of luck.

  • The wifi turned off on mine

the wifi turned off on my husbands & my ipods, when we try to sign back in it says, "unable to join the network."   the wifi is still working on our laptop & tv,  what can we do to fix it?  We have already tried to rebooy our ipods, turned the wifi off & then back on & turned the airplane mode on, we're running out of ideas!!

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
