Turning off iPod nano

I just bought me an iPod nano the other day. It seems to work perfect, and I'm not having any scratch related problems.
I do have one problem though, sometimes my nano won't seem to turn off. Holding the play/pause button is the right action, I know that, and it works.. Sometimes, but not allways.
I can't event chose the "sleep" option and get it to turn off, it just plain ignores my commands.
So I just wanna know if anybody else have had this problem, and if so, how to you fix it?
Thx
Johannes

I might have had the same problem as you are having. First of all it seems that the nano takes a longer time to turn off than previous ipods. Try holding it down for a long long time. If that doesn't work then there might be a manufacturing problem with the button. When I tried to turn mine off it would go off for half a second and then turn back on. Right now I'm in the process of replacing my nano with Apple.

  • Turning off ipod nano, turning off ipod nano

    Always find the most obvious functions conveniently left out by the Apple engineers including how to turn off the ipod Nano.
    Ironically it is always resources 'outside' Apple that usually has the answers..
    There is so little information available on it, and many theories including the fact that it is still a 'bug'?
    Please enlighten me.
    Very disappointed at your poor user interface and repeated signing into the same user name/ account.. just to write this bit of info..

  • Turning off ipod nano 5g internal speakers

    is there a way to turn off the ipod nano 5g internal speakers without having to connect the headsets? I just connected the Motorola bluetooth adaptor and I can listent to the music in my headstets but also from the internal speakers.

    To answer the question of how to turn off the internal speaker on the iPod Nano 5th gen., which stays on even when you plug in the headphones, here is what I had to do: I first unplugged the headphones from the unit. Then, I cycled power on it by holding down the Menu and center button at the same time until it powered off. This could take a couple of seconds so be patient. After the unit powered back up, I plugged in the headphones and the music started to come through the headphones and NOT the unit only. Hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to auto on and off iPod nano

    Any way to automatically turn on and turn off a nano?

    I think most Apple users will ignore your question. First of all, I suggest you read the documentation. If you choose not to; rely on that all powerful two button mouse (Apple users are only now beginning to recognize the advantages of this type of device; and Intel chips).
    right click on the iPod nano icon in iTunes;
    select iPod options;
    click the photo tab;
    check the appropriate box;
    That should work.

  • Does turning off iPod erase iPod diagnostic data

    When ever safari crashes I understand that it keeps that data and next time you connect it appears as diagnostic data. I always turn off/on my iPod touch when that happens. My question is that turning off iPod erase iPod diagnostic data? Is it necessary to turn off the iPod to stop crashing?

    I've not seen anything official but it is true in my limited experience that turning the iPod touch off does seem to clear that crash info. In my first two crashes I was offered to send info to Apple the iPod touch was connected to my iMac. In my latest two crahes I've turned the iPod off before connecting to iTunes and was not offered the chance to send info to Apple this time. Will continue to monitor.

  • Turning off ipod is a strange design

    Turning off ipod by holding play/pause seems a really dim-witted design to shutdown anything. For one it does not ALWAYS work.
    Has anyone complained about this design?
    For crying out loud can’t an Apple engineer come up with an on/off switch I'm sure if they do China can make it. Heck make it an option I'd even pay extra for it.

    Adding another switch just to turn off the ipod would add parts and that lowers reliability and increases cost, so I can see why the ipod doesn't have a dedicated on/off switch.
    On the other hand, it should be smart enough to turn the screen off when commanded; if it still has disk housekeeping to do it could finish that up in the background, then actually turn itself off.
    I decided long ago to just forget about this whole issue, I just let my ipod turn itself off when it is good and ready. Having it run on for a few extra minutes uses a miniscule amount of battery anyway.
    Don't worry, be happy.

  • Automatically turn off ipod?

    Hi, im sorry for my english, im spanish and i only know the basic english, i hope that you cand understand me.
    I go to say my problem directly because i dont know many words.
    My problem is that, i have the ipod nano 4g in a dock, because i dont want that the ipod is pulled in the table.
    When the ipod is in dock while the computers is on, is always charging, i see that there no problem with that, but when i turn off the computer, the ipod remains on and is spending battery.
    There are any option on the ipod for when i turn off the computer the ipod turn off too.
    Thanks

    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

    As long as all of the songs are in iTunes, you will be fine. You can restore the iPod, then reload everything from iTunes...

    My center button on my relatively new ipod nano just turns off the unit. I cannot get it to music>. It just goes into the cd/song but not the categories under music! What to do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!

  • Turned Off iPod Touch 1st Gen During Restore. Did I kill it?

    My 1st Generation iPod Touch wasn't being detected by iTunes so I chose the reset option that erases all data. While it was restoring, I thought it froze because the white progress bar under the apple stopped midway and I turned the iPod off. Now when I switch it on, the black screen with the apple logo switches on for about 10-seconds, and then the iPod powers off. My mac doesn't detect it and I've tried holding the home and the sleep key. What else can I do?

    If I were you I would call Apple about this problem

  • Please help! I cannot turn off IPOD due to blocking message

    Please help, dear Ipod Experts and better Ipod Users,
    I cannot turn off the Ipod (when I click to the bottom ) anymore as following message appears:
    "FireWire connections are not supported to transfer songs, connect to the USB cable provided"
    Even resetting the Ipod the message appears again and again and I dont have the slightest idea what the IPOD is trying to tell me. I have regularly uploaded the songs via Itunes with the USB cable (Nothing else) and I use the official I-Fusion Sonic Impact to hear the songs in loud. Can there be the connection, because I remember that this message started appearing when the IPOD was connected to the I-Fusion.
    In order to turn the IPOD I have to leave it on till it turns off due to battery deload...Very sad solution, isnt it?
    Thanks so much for answers for a real desperate Ipod Fan

    It sounds like you have reached the authorization limit of 5 computers.  So if you need to authorize another one, either deauthorize any other computers have authorized in the past that you still have physical access to or use the Deauthorize All option as described in this article.
