Turning off MAC filtering

I can't connect to the internet and the problem is with my airport extreme/leopard. I need to find out how to cut off the MAC address filtering to allow my iPhone and windows computer to connect to the internet. I have the modem ethernet plug in my airport, and another ethernet cable coming from that to my windows PC. Both the PC and my iPhone get the 169 IP address and the subnet of 255.255.0.0, so this is an issue with the security on my airport extreme. This issue wasn't there when I had tiger installed but I recently upgraded to Leopard and all of a sudden this is an issue. How do you turn off MAC filtering as I am sure this is the issue holding me up.

Open the Airport Utility, which is in Applications > Utilities.
Select your Airport Extreme and click "Manual Setup".
Choose the Access Control tab.
Set MAC Address Access Control to "Not Enabled" and click "Update".

I'm tryting to connect my Dropcam to my Airport so I can use it wirelessly.  The Dropcam needs to have MAC Filtering disabled.  How do I disable MAC Filtering?
I'm using WEP Personal2.  Do I need to use something else?

MAC filtering is not enabled by default on the AirPorts. If it is enabled, it would be via Access Control in the AirPort Utility.

  • 'turning off' all filters from multiple clips at once???

    FCP 5.1.4
Is there a way to collectively disactivate or turn off the filters on a group of clips all at once?
I'm making a spot using the material from the film. The master film sequences have a lot of filters assigned ... but the sequences are no longer rendered. I want to pull diverse shots from the film without having to either render, or delete the filters. Once the clip is cut I'd like to be able to just turn the filters back on prior to exporting the new clip out.
    All ears,
    Ben

    As already mentioned, no.
However, you can turn off filters for an entire sequence. Go to Sequence Settings (Command-0, that's zero) then the Render Control tab and uncheck the Filters checkbox. Of course, be sure to toggle it back on before you export.
Not sure how well this translates to nested sequence though...

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Emptied trash of iphoto, turned off Mac in middle to stop process but lost most photos. Trying to find them...

I deleted my photos in my iphoto library as I thought I had backed them up to my harddrive. However, when I emptied trash of iphoto, I worried I hadn't saved them and could not stop it so I turned off Mac in middle but when I turned on Mac, there were only 3000 images left out of the 8000 original photos. Can I retrieve them somehow or are they gone foreve

When you empty the trash in iPhoto the photos will/should be moved to the System Trash in your Dock. Have you looked there, if there are still photos left? Then drag them out of the Trash.

  • If I turn off Mac Mini Mid2011, LED doesn't turn black.

I turned off the Mac Mini Mid 2011. BUT, the Mac Mini's Light(White LED) doesn't want to turn off and the only way to COMPLETELY shut down is to force shut down.I'm worrying about bad sectors so I'm asking.
Is there any way to solve?

I just want to know if I turn off iMessages and iCloud Back up, and ONLY use SMS myself and my family just SMS's me - and do this on my PHONE ONLY and not touch his ipad (so he doesn't know), if he will get any of my messages I send or receive on his ipad please. Its just a temp thing and I just want to take action myself on my own phone and want to know if this will work. Does anyone know?
SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
    Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.
    Best of luck.

  • Accidently turned off mac during install now it won't reinstall

As stated above I accidently turned off my mac during an install of lion. Before installing lion i used disk utillity to delete the Hdd and now it wont resume the instalation. It´s booting with the lion disk and enters the instalation, but comes up with a fail message saying that lion connot be installed. I have tried to redelete my Hdd using diskutility but it still wont work. cannot seen to get anywhere from here.
    what to do...?

I had a similar problem.  See this problem / answer for a solution:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    which I found at:
        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3207417
Resetting the PRAM by pressing Command-Option-P-R during the boot was all I had to do.  It automatically did a restart and I pressed Option to get prompted for the boot drive (don't know if I had to do that last part).

  • Can't turn off Mac after burning DVD.

I burned a DVD of images for a client on my MBP 15" Retina (i.e. latest model) on the USB Superdrive. It ejected fine and seems to have finished correctly.  However I had a message that the disc burn failed but that I could try again.  When I tried to turn my Mac off I got the message "The Finder is about to quit. Click Continue to eject the disc without burning “Untitled Disc” to it."  There was no disc in the drive (and I also tried this with a new disc in the drive with the same result) but I clicked continue, the window closed but the MBP stayed resolutely switched on.
I've since burned another DVD in the hope that that would make the Mac 'forget' about "Untitled Disc", but it hasn't and I can't turn off my computer!  There doesn't seem to be a hard 'power off' button like my old 17" MBP either.
There's no DVD disc image or folder called "Untitled Disc" that I can eject or delete.  Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Open Terminal (Utilities Folder) type
    drutil eject
    then hit enter.
    You may try also
    drutil eject external
    then hit enter.

  • Setting to turn off .Mac advertisements?

Is there some setting in iWeb to turn off the .mac advertisement window? It pops up every time this application starts or when I transfer photos from iPhoto.

I found a way around it although it's not a very elegant fix.
    1. Open System Preferences.
    2. Click on .Mac.
    3. Enter a member name and password. Type return so System Preferences tries to validate the member name and password. It doesn't matter what they are - Just make them up.
    4. Close System Preferences.
    5. Open iWeb and the .Mac advertisement is no longer there.
    Hope this helps!

  • Turning off Mac startup BONGGGGGGG ...

I work in a clinic and when I have to restart my Mac when a client is getting treated/resting the Mac makes an UNACCEPTABLY loud sound; is there a way to turn it off?
I tried SysPrefs>Sound>Sound Effects>Alert volume turned down and all boxes unchecked
    ... but that's not working ...
    Help!

That setting is not available in the System Preferences. You can add a Prefpane that will do the job.

  • Quick question - shortcut to turn off mac when completely frozen?

I'm not talking about force quiting - I mean when everything is jammed and the only option is to turn the power off. I'm sure there is a shortcut for this - similar to the one for the pram reset something like applealt+pr but different letters?

    Roger Wilmut1 wrote:

After which you should really restart from the install disk and run a Disk Repair from Disk Utility: every time I get a freeze I do this (in fact I run Applejack which is quicker) and it almost always shows up some error which needs repairing.
yes, that's a very good point.

  • After Leopard install, start up turns off Mac

Nothing lost as I have 4-250 Gb drives and backed up but. . .
Install seemed complete. Upon reboot and subsequent starts, system shuts itself off after grey apple screen. Doesn't even get to rotary spinning timer dealybob under grey apple.
I have four strikes against me here. G4 450 AGP w/Sonnet Encore ST 1.8 GHz, ATI 9800 Pro, Adaptec ATA adapter, Techtools Hi-Cap driver. Did not swap video card, didn't pull ATA, just tried dirty install. Waiting for Intel's new chipset to buy new Mac Pro. Any hope of Leopard on this heap?

The problem isn't the Sonnet card, I'll bet a lot of money it's the Adaptec ATA card. My machine was powering off during boot when I tried to boot from my Firewire drive (this always worked on 10.2, 10.3, 10.4). When I installed the OS on an internal IDE drive it worked fine. Using it now, Sonnet and all. Hope that helps. I did notice on boot that the Sonnet cache enabled kext was not loading so I removed it. I'm not sure if the whole cache is currently enabled and need to look into that.
It DOES work on a Sawtooth with the Encore 1.8Ghz.
