Turning off magic trackpad without waking computer?

Is there a way to turn off the Magc Trackpad after putting the Mac to sleep. I don't want to change the sleep settings on the Mac and the Trackpad is the only input device. When I turn off the Trackpad it wakes the Mac. If I turn off the Trackpad first then I can't put the Mac to sleep.

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for the answer. You sound a bit skeptical, but there are as many different situations as there are people.
As someone who wanted a wired trackpad, shutting off the trackpad is important to me. In fact it's recommended by apple. Also, in our multi-purpose work space, it's very easy for the trackpad to wake the Mac.
Thanks for the keyboard shortcut to put the computer to sleep. That solved our problem.

  • How do you turn off Auto-Sync without connecting  the ipod  to PC?

My Purchased Tracks was deleted off my computer, but I still have all of them on my ipod. I have iTunes 7, so I am aware I can transfer all my purchased music from my ipod to itunes. But I know auto-sync is set up, so when I connect it to my computer, won't it automatically sync itunes with my ipod and therefore delete my purchased music on my ipod? Can I turn off auto-sync without connecting my ipod?

    A couple of ways...
Hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys when you plug in the iPod. (For a PC)
    Or...
Connect your iPod, but before it starts to sync, click that little X on the right hand side of the ITunes display at the top of the page. (Next to the "Do Not Disconnect" message.)
Then click box at bottom that says manually manage music.

How do I turn off photo stream on one computer without deleting the photos out of the rest of the devices?

Go to control panel, search for 'iCloud", double-click iCloud to open the iCloud control panel for Windows, then uncheck photo stream.  If you want to keep any photo stream photos on your PC, be sure to copy them to a separate folder (outside of the photo stream folder) before unchecking photo stream.

I have an old computer that died, how do I turn off home sharing on that computer so that I can gain back 1 of my 5 shares for my new computer?

As far as I know you don't need to turn off home sharing as such, however you will have lost one of the 5 "authorizations". You can't release these individually unless you are running iTunes on the authorized operating system you want to deauthorize.
You will have to wait until you have 5 authorizations, at which point you can clear them all and start over, reauthorizing the machines you want to.

If my phone be stolen the stealer can turn off the phone without security code. Why?

Because that's the way it is designed. If you don't like it, don't purchase an iPhone, or tell Apple you don't like it:

If you had iOS 7 BETA installed, just go to developer.apple.com and log in using your developer account.  (The BETA recently went past it's valid until date.)  There are discussions about this issue.  Otherwise...  for non-developers, I'm afraid you're on your on.  Use Google.

  • How to turn off one monitor without disconnecting it

I have two monitors on the mini, one is 24 connected with mini-dvi to DVI and another is 19 connected with mini-displayport to VGA.
Most of the time, I only use the 24 one and don't need the 19 one. However, if I don't disconnect the cable, the Mac still think the 19 one is connected and I can move windows onto it. So I have to connect the cable when I need it and disconnect it after using, every time!
Is there a software way (such as a shortcut) to turn off a monitor without disconnecting the cable?

As gavinlufc said, sometimes it works to power off the monitor you don't want to use. But that doesn't always work because in many cases the Mac will detect the monitor as being present regardless of whether it is powered on or powered off.
Unfortunately, there is no other way to do what you desire short of unplugging, as you are already doing. This feature gets requested from time to time by others. You could file a request with Apple through the OS X feedback page.

I just put in such a request. The more they get, the more they will consider making the change.

Hi I just upgraded software through iTunes then unplugged iPhone now it is stuck on the connect to intunes screen, it won't turn off and iTunes and my computer won't recognize my phone? Please help

My phone is doing the same thing. My computer acknowledges that I have connected my iPhone 4, however, iTunes will no longer connect or sync to my iPhone 4. I have uninstalled iTunes, Bonjour and all Apple products from my pc. I have re-installed them back on. I have reset my phone. I have emptied my temp folder. I have done everything. If my iPhone cannot update and sync with iTunes then I may as well get another phone from somewhere else. I am disappointed that I cannot resolve this issue.
Rebeccaspe31, were you able to resolve your issue? If so how?

  • How do I get my purchased music back after turning off iTunes Match without having to go back through iTunes and individually download each album?

I absolutely hate iTunes Match. It is difficult to work with when it comes to music not purchased through iTunes. So I want to turn it off. How do I do and still have my purchased music through iTunes without having to go through each album/song that I've ever purchased and redownload? That would take FOREVER.

If iTunes Match is turned off, go to preferences > store>Tick box show iCloud purchases. Once done all purchased music will appear. Go to song list view, select all tracks, ctrl+click and select download from pop up.
Alternatively, go into iTunes Store > Quicklinks purchased and select not on this computer. Select download all.

  • Turn off magic mouse scroll zoom

Whenever I'm in Illustrator and am holding down Shift Option Command the slightest scroll on the mouse makes everything zoom all over the place. How do I turn this off? I found an old thread on this  and the Adobe guy said it's Apple's fault and I should buy a new mouse. No. That's not the answer.

The ineffectiveness of the Magic Mouse preference settings in OSX as regards scrolling is most definitely Apple's fault. Here is what you need to know:

About The Problem:

Apple is not going to fix this problem. It's been an issue dating back nearly a decade and continues still. It is either beyond the scope of Apple's programming intelligence, or they simply don't care about you and your problems. Apple's programming intelligence pretty much speaking for itself, the only option left is that Apple doesn't care. It's one of the perks of the modern day tech business paradigm, where companies like Apple have so many millions of customers and so much momentum behind their market share, they don't have to care about you, the single, obscure nobody, with your Apple computer you've already paid for. Apple also being a die-hard fan-based enterprise, it knows full well that for every one of us who might have a problem such as this, there are at least a hundred thousand others who would put up with just about anything just to be associated with the logo of an apple with a bite taken out.

The Fix:

Fortunately there is a brilliant, enterprising soul (or group of souls) behind the development of an app called MagicPrefs which more than compensates for Apple's indifference to this & other related problems. It not only addresses the inability to turn off the ever-annoying scroll action that happens anytime our fingers brush across the case of the mouse, it offers myriad other functions you might like.

You owe it to yourself to check out MagicPrefs, and thank the developers for giving us a means to rise above this bit of Apple stupidity.

  • Can I turn off mu iCloud without losing all my documents on my iMac?My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. HELP.

Can I turn off, or remove myself my iCloud account, without losing all my documents on my iMac? My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. When I try and sign out of iCloud, The iCloud window is giving me a message that "If you turn off Documents & Data, all documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac". I have iMac OS X 10.7.5, 2.7ghz, Intel core i5. I don't use my iCloud service, and I somehow my iPhone linked it to my computer by mistake. I don't want the service or need it, & don't want my info in cyberspace. I don't want to lose my documents on my hard drive, and it appears that I haven't used any data in iCloud, as 5GB of 5GB is available. HELP.

I would love to hear that Apple has remedied this problem. From other discussion strings that I am following related to this issue, it seems thus far we remain out of luck. I did discover that if I log onto iCloud.com I can access my files that way.  Still, what a pain.
When I got the message re iCloud Drive as I was setting up my phone after the update to iOS8, it said I wouldn't be able to access my files unless all of my devices were running iOS8 OR Yosemite. That message was misleading as it really should have said all devices need to be running iOS8 AND your mac needs to be running Yosemite, as it was not an "either or" situation.  So frustrating...

  • Can I turn off iTunes match on one computer only?

I have iTunes installed on two laptops, one at home and one at school (I'm a teacher). iTunes match has worked great for my home computer and iPad, BUT...I do not want my music on the school laptop. Is there a way to turn off iTunes match on one machine only? I thought I had turned it off, but when I went to add some audio books for school it said it was adding them to iTunes match and now the books show up on all my devices.
To be clear, I want to keep iTunes match for my personal laptop and iPad, but would like to turn it off on the school laptop.

    Hi,
Yes. To turn off match Go to menu > store > and select turn off itunes match.
To turn it back on you need to turn on from same point but you will be asked to sign in and add this computer.

  • HT4527 The computer that has my i Tunes library has crashed, How do I turn off Home Sharing on this computer and tranfer my files to another computer?

How do i turn off home sharing and transfer my ITunes library to another computer?

Your music will only be where you put it.  You can download the itunes program and sign into your account on any computer, but your music/content will not be there unless you put it there.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod.  File>Transfer Purchases
