Turning off mouse & keyboard

I would like to know if there would be battery consumption on the wireless mouse & keyboard when the Imac is turned off.I see an off switch on the mouse & I do turn it to off.Not sure how to turn off the keyboard though,Will battery still be used when Mac is turned off?

Hi Don!
A couple of "bits" of information:
I've had this machine about 3 months now, and the battery level for the keyboard is still showing 100%. However, I've had to change the batteries in the mouse about a month ago, and it's now reporting 50%.
This is a problem (incorrect battery readings) that apparently started with OS X 10.6.7. The readings are consistently high.  The problem has been reported and the "powers that be" are aware of the issue.  I suspect a future release will take care of the incorrect reading issue.  In the meantime, the "mighty monitor" widget that runs under Dashboard seems to have correct readings.
I have been using rechargeable batteries and a 15 minute charger (all obtained on eBay new at a reasonable price).  I happen to be using Energizers (2450 mAh).  Although the batteries do not last as long as Lithium batteries, the cost is less over a period of time.  Rechargeables also are "feel good" as they are environmentally friendly.
Regards,
Barry
P.S.  My mighty mouse does require batteries more often than my keyboard, although I suspect it is because I use the mouse a lot as I type VERY slowly.

  • How to turn off mouse click noise

I am listening to my Itunes on my computer and doing work at the same time. Each time I do my work and click my mouse I hear the click sound at the same time as my song. Is they any way to turn off mouse click sound so it does not disturb my music?

    1. Go to control panel
    2. Click mouse
Now that being said, I don't have the kind that makes a noise, so I don't have an option, but if you're able to turn the sound off, it should be there.
If it's not there, check Sounds and Audio Device properties to see if there's an option there. If there's not, you may need to contact your computer manufacturer.
    Good luck!

  • HT4930 Turn off mouse scrolling completely in Mountain Lion?

After installing Mountain Lion 10.8.5, I have a slightly different Magic Mouse preferences window than I did with Snow Leopard. There is no longer an option for entirely turning off scrolling. This is really annoying while working in Photoshop as the cursor will periodically "jump". I also do not have "Universal Access" in my System Preferences. How do I turn off scrolling?

In case anyone comes here looking I made an applescript that does the job. You could automate this using automator so use a simple keyboard shortcut to activate it for easy access.
    Script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
         activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.universalaccess"
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
         tell application process "System Preferences"
tell table 1 of scroll area 1 of window "Accessibility"
                   delay 0.2
                   select (row 10)
              end tell
click button 5 of window 1
         delay 0.1
if value of checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility" is 1 then
click checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
         else
click checkbox 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
         end if
click button 1 of sheet 1 of window "Accessibility"
              end tell
    end tell
    tell application "System Preferences"
         quit
    end tell
To do the automator method all you have to do is launch it and select "Service" Then set "service receives selected" to "no input". Search in the action bar for "Run Applescript". Paste the script code there and save. Now in System Preferences> Keyboard> shortcuts there should be a catagory called General. Under that should be whatever you named your automator service. Make sure its checked and then just click and add a keyboard shortcut!
Hope someone finds it useful. I made this for my brother because he hates having scroll on for games as well.

  • Help!  Turned off mouse by accident!

    Hi all,
I had a boot-up problem with my Mac (it would only work with extensions off) so I turned off all the extensions to troubleshoot. Unfortunately, I must have turned off an extension or control panel to the mouse as well, and now have no mouse!
Anyone know how to turn the mouse extension or control panel on with keystrokes? Or how to turn on ALL extensions, even? I've searched all the known keyboard shortcuts I could find, and none for turning extentions ON during boot up.
    Appreciate any help! :0)
    TIA,
    Peg

OK, so that helps to know which extension needs to be turned back on!
I have the original Logitech Mouse CD, and I've tried to install it, but don't know how to do that w/o the mouse. I can cmd-O to open the window, and use the arrows to run the installer, but I got stuck at the part where I have to choose between "Accept" or "Not Accept" their legal stuff. Neither one is highlighted, and the tab or arrow keys don't select it.
I can open Extension Manager, but can't get navigate that w/o a mouse, either.
I sure appreciate any help with keystrokes, esp. if I could just get the USB extension turned back on!
    Thanks!

  • Settings for Turning Off Mouse Pad

I have a Pavilion dv7 laptop (P/N VZ500PA#ABG) running Windows 7 and I like to use a mouse with it. I am not entirely sure what the pad thing in front of the keyboard is called (the one used when you don't have a mouse), but I want to know how to change the settings on my computer so that when I turn off the mouse pad thing, it STAYS off the next time I turn on my computer. I know it's possible to change the settings to do this, because it used to do this prior to me changing a whole heap of settings. It is really annoying that I have to press the button every time I log into Windows (if I don't, then I end up accidently touching the pad as I type and then it accidently clicks on things).
If anyone can help me I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance.

In the lower right hand corner of the Tray, there is an icon "Show hidden icons".  There you will find the "Synaptics Pointing Device" icon.  Click on it and uncheck "Tap to click".  This will disable the pad.  You will have to click on the Right button at the bottom of the Pad to select items.

  • Can I turn off mouse battery low notification

I use rechargeable batteries in my Magic Mouse and I use to have no problems but since upgrading (from 10.6.8 to 10.10) I keep getting notifications on screen that my battery is low even if I just charged them. Now, I know it's due to the voltage difference in rechargeables but I would like to just turn off that little pop up that keeps popping up on screen I click on it to hide it but it just keeps coming back and it's annoying.
What's funny is the battery is fully charged and the menu says 0% battery and has said that through 2 weeks of heavy use. If I swap them out for newly charged batteries it still says the batteries are at 0%.

Yes - have checked them all and there's nothing to check or uncheck. This is one of those little things that's annoying and turns out it annoys lots of people given the number of requests for solutions in this forum and non-Apple forums. Apparently this issue has become worse with each OS upgrade. I have tested OS identified problem batteries and found plenty of charge. Besides the interval between when the notifications start and when the batteries fail is quite long.
Many suggestions including Terminal scripts suggest simply turning off Notifications completely but that means loss of something useful.
What is wanted is to allow the notification re declining trackpad, mouse, keyboard battery power is to show itself, let it be clicked close, and to stop popping up all the time.
I did go to a Genius Bar for help (bit hard to demonstrate without the iMac being there) and the Genius didn't think there was such a problem. Having had Geniuses give themselves away in never looking at Apple Support Forums, I came prepared with links to this issue raised on this and other posts. Amazed he decided that maybe there is a problem/issue, could not find anyone to suggest a solution, but suggested I put in a feedback form. I think Apple people look at these even less than they look at the Support Forums, and so that is why I was looking to the Apple User community for a solution.

  • Display turns off and keyboard and sound disabled when bumped?

I have a Powerbook G4 12". My computer works great when it is running, but if i bump it from the bottom, my screen turns off, sound and keyboard stop working as well, but can still hear the fan running. I hold the power button until it shuts down, and then restart it and everything is fine, until i bump it again.
Another problem that might be related is that sometimes when i open up my computer to wake is from sleep mode, the computer turns on, but the screen and all functions do not work. An this is even if i do not bump it.
    Thanks for any help!
    Michael

My G4 Power had no display so I plugged it into an external monitor. This gave me a display but then I found the keyboard and trackpad were not working. I used an external keyboard and USB mouse to start System Profiler. This told me that the Powerbook was operating in clamshell mode. The most likely reason is the reed switch that detects when the display is closed is jammed. It is no easy task to replace this switch: http://tinyurl.com/4uourh
I would be interested in any less subtle ways to fix the problem (eg waving a strong magnet near it)?

  • Turning off automatic keyboard dimmer

I just found out that there seems to be no way to turn off the automatic dimmer of the keyboard.
I would like to keep it on a constant level, but I'm editing video and the brightness of the control monitor affects the keyboard's light sensor. Well, thank god you can turn the automatic dimming for the display off...
Anyone knows how to do this or if there's a little hack around?
    Thx

    Uh..well...here's the "hack" I found:
Turn off the "Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions" setting.
Now the keyboard brightness won't change and can be turned on and off with the "F8" key. Why I didn't find this earlier...I don't know.

  • Can't turn off Mouse Click

I am trying to turn off the mouse click sound. I am following
the manual which says to remove the checkmark from the box next to
the Mouse click sound. After I do that, I then save the project
(which is still unpublished). I then preview that slide, and I
still hear the mouse click sound. I did this to several slides, all

Hop over to fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst's

  • I accidentally turned off onscreen keyboard without having a wireless one. What do I do to get it back?

I accidentally turned off the onscreen keyboard without having a wireless keyboard. How do I get it back?

Elliot probably has your solution. You have to tap a text field - anywhere that text can be entered - in order for the keyboard to pop up but you can also try these basic steps
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • New owner of MBP, why can't you turn off the keyboard backlight in Win 7?

I'm a new owner of MBP. I have Windows 7 64bits installed on bootcamp. The keyboard backlight is really bothering me. I thought Boot Camp was out for awhile, and I don't know why can't Apple fix this backlight control thing? I downloaded that power assistant software and I liked it; however, I was turned off that it wasn't a freeware. What can I do to turn this backlight off permanently?

Well... seems like pre-2010 MBPs all had 'non-disablable' keyboard backlights on Windows. Installing BC 3.1 won't help at all. You could temporary minimize backlight level, but not turn it off. And on just any ambient light change it jumps back to maximum. Extremely erratic
A friend of mine got a 2010 MBP and he's able to turn backlight off. I've got mid-2009 model with BC 3.1, and I can't. My another friend has late-2008 model, he can't turn the backlight off, either.
I agree, ideally powerplan7 should have been a freeware. However, although I did spend $10 on a key, I'm oh-so-happy right now. With backlight disabled And since there are no alternatives AT ALL, I'm glad they're not selling this software for, say, $25.
