Turning off onscreen display

We are looking into purchasing an ATV for the workplace to show content we have created for our clients (we are a video post production house). I have one at my home that I am familiar with & have been experimenting for work purposes.
When setting up video playlists to be able to show our work, is there a way in the ATV menus to turn off the on-screen display for each new video clip ? It's a little distracting to have 8 spots strung together in a playlist, and have the name of the clip fade up with a thumbnail in lower left hand corner for each new spot. (not to mention the name stays on-screen for such a long time)
(for the record, I am trying to avoid melting all spots down into 1 clip; this way it is easier to swap out spots or change their order per presentation)...
Thanks for your help !

i don't believe there is any way to do what you want.

  • When sharing screen from work with my home computer, is there any way to turn off the display at home?

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question, but when I'm viewing my desktop on the home computer from work (as in I've connected by finding my computer in the finder and hit the "Share Screen" button - is there any way to turn off the display at home? It seems a bit of a waste of power to have the screen on when I'm not actually there - I just need to be able to see all my programs etc on the remote screen in order to use them. My home computer is a 2011 iMac running latest Mountain Lion, work is a 2010 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

I've set up another user on my home Mac and left that one logged in. Now when I connect from work it asks me if I want to share the screen or log on virtually as my user. I think choosing the second option doesn't power up the screen.

  • Windows 8 "Turn off the display" setting not working

Hi all, I've got a TP W520 which I upgraded to Windows 8 with all updated Lenovo packages including the power mgt driver, Lenovo settings dependency package, and the newly installed Lenovo settings metro app. I'm seeing the following problem when trying to set a time for the monitor to shut off under Control Panel -> Hardware and sound -> Power Options -> Edit plan settings: - If I set any time other than never for "Turn off the display" such as 1 hour for example, the monitor will get turned off as soon as the screen-saver launches from the Windows 8 Lock Screen. - I'm not seeing this same behavior if I let the screen-saver launch while sitting at the desktop screen, problem is only seen from the Windows 8 lock screen. You can test this as follows: - Set "Turn off display" to any time i.e. 30 min - Change your screen-saver to launch after 1 min to test this - Type ctrl-alt-del then click lock to enter the lock screen, then let the screen-saver activate after a minute. - Once the screen saver tries to start, in my case, I see the monitor getting turned off and the screen saver doesn't even start. The monitor shouldn't get turned off until 30 min elapses. I'm suspecting some kind of bug with this which is still outstanding and I look forward to feedback from others on this issue. Thanks, John

  • Creative Zen 4gb, is it supposed to turn off the display to save the batte

I just bought a Creative Zen 4gb, is it supposed to turn off the display when I'm listening to songs?to save the battery?
Mine doesn't. It just goes dim.

Yes, it is possible. On the right hand side of the player is the slider to turn on the player, push the slider upwards to the lock position and the screen will turn off. That is the Hold mode. At this mode, all the buttons would be inaccessible to prevent accidental pressing of the buttons. This is the mode to use when you are just playing music and do not need the display.
To unhold the player, just push the slider to the middle position and all the way down to turn it off.

  • Cant edit powersetting for laptop to turn off the display after .. when power is plugged in

I tried to set the setting on a laptop in our domain from "turn off the display after 5 minutes" to "never".
    the button is greyed out.
I tried the advanced settings, even that won't work.
Os on the laptop is windows 8.1 Pro, the laptop is a member in a domain.
    Anyone knows this issue?
    thanks,

    Hi,
    Are you referring to this?
Please check the policy Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Video and Display Settings
(if deployed by a GPO created by server in a domain, then check Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Video and Display Settings)
in the right pane, find "Turn off the display (Plugged in)", check whether it is configured to a specific data.

  • Should iphone 4 receive messages when turned off and display them when switched back on

should iphone 4 receive messages when turned off and display them when switched back on

It's up to the cellular carrier, but I believe most (if not all) will enqueue the messages when your iPhone is off.
So generally speaking, a few minutes after you turn your iPhone on, your messages should display.  Similarly, your voicemails would arrive.

  • HT4623 How to turn-off tap display during passcode entry

I recently bought Iphone 4s. I like the phone as such but one thing that I want to change is tap display while entering the passcode on lock screen. I don't want to see which keys I am entering as this can put my phone on risk as anyone close to me can see what keys I had pressed to unlock the phone.
Please help to let me know "How to turn-off tap display during passcode entry" on locked screen.
Thanks for the answers and suggestion.

This cannot be done.  You should simply hide the display from others' view.
iPhone 5S allows you to use your fingerprint instead of the passcode.

  • Can I turn off my display while syncing?

I have an old laptop with usb 1.1 ports. Obviously syncing is extremely slow. If I want to load 12 GB worth of songs it can take hours. Does it harm or wear out the display or do I risk burning the image of the 'Sync in Progress' screen onto my display permanently if it takes eight hours to load that much data? Is there any way to turn off the display while syncing? Thanks

No, you cannot turn it off.

What is the reason I'd appreciate if you help how to fix it ...pleasa help me

As stated hold down the top button only until you see the red slider to power off your phone.
If that doesn't work then take it to Apple and see what they say.

  • My MBP doesn't go to sleep, only turns off the display

So I recently upgraded to 10.9.2 from 10.6.8. I have MacBook Pro mid 2010. I used to use InsomniaX to disable sleep when my lid was closed. It worked great, I could disable it anytime. Now after upgrading OS X I had to upgrade to newest InsomniaX so it worked. It use to work good, but when I wanted to disable it and have my MBP go to sleep I sometimes had issues.
Decided to uninstall it completely and try other apps - I installed NoSleep, but noticed that when I disable it then it won't go fully sleep.
Instead it just turns off the display and keyboard backlights, I hear my fans going.
I tried to uninstall everything completely - from any traces of InsomniaX, and as well NoSleep. I did try to reset SMC and PRAM. Now when I close the lid or go to apple menu and chose Sleep - I still can hear the fans going, the display is off, the light on the right side of the MacBook case is turned on (instead of flashing, like it used to when it slept) - dimmed when I Sleep via Apple menu, bright when I close the lid.
What can I do to somehow revert to the default setting so my MBP can go to sleep?

    OK I solved it.
    I followed instructions from http://superuser.com/questions/214943/what-is-preventing-my-macbook-from-sleepin g/409481/
Go to Utilities in the Applications folder and open the "Terminal" app.
Type pmset -g and hit Enter
If "sleep" has 0 next to it and the words "imposed by" or "prevented by ; The number next to the imposed by is the process ID causing the problem. Copy that number.
Type ps -e | grep <process ID here> and hit Enter. This will list all running processes that have that ID (will also include the grep process)
For me it turned out to be Internet Sharing enabled that prevented my MBP from sleeping.

  • How can i turn off my display?

Hi everyone, so, i`m using my MacBook Pro with one Samsung T220 Display, and i want to turn off the display of the MacBook when i get out, like i make with the samsung, only click até thw power button, and that`s it, turn off. How can i do the same thing with the MacBook Display and turn off the display when i want and don`t using the screensavers? Thanks a lot, sorry for my english, i`m learning.

You can either turn the brightness on the internal display all the way down, or close the display and use the MBP in clamshell mode (with an external keyboard/mouse):

  • My Macbook Pro (early 2011, 10.6.8) keeps rebooting when I put it to sleep mode or turn off the display.

When I go out for lunch, I always put my Macbook Pro either to sleep or turn off the display with Ctrl-Shift-Eject. Recently, a few times, when I returned to the computer, I find it in the login screen with all apps closed. What to do?

What do you man by 'kills' the application?  Do open applications close?
    Try SMC and NVRAM resets:

    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
    Then try a safe boot:

    Any change?
Do you have any third party AV or so called 'performance' or 'cleaning' applications installed?
    Ciao.

  • Turning Off the Display

    Hi,
Is there a way to turn off the display manually? I use flight simulator a lot and there is motion on the screen so it won't turn off automatically. I was hoping there was a key command or something I could use to turn it off when I left the game running for a little.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Fn+F3 turns off the display(s) selected with Fn+F7.
But with motion on the screen it won't stay turned off.
Also hitting Fn+F3 will end full screen mode and return FS to a window which I think pauses it. If you know of a way to continue running FS in a diminished window Fn+F3 would work. Otherwise I think only way is to use Fn+F7 to select an external monitor only and then power off that monitor when you want to leave FS going.

  • Any way to turn off LCD display, and just use a TV?

For when I am watching a movie, or a tv show on my MBP to my television. I dont like having the LCD screen on, wasting its life away.
If I tell the MBP to turn off the display after a minuet, (in power settings) will that leave the TV out on?
If there is anyway to do this, thanks.

While it is connected to the TV, put the MBP to sleep by closing its lid. Now, wake it up again, not by opening it, but by use of an external USB device like a mouse. This will cause only the TV to be active. Once the TV lights up, you can open the lid on the MBP if you like and the screen will remain off.
You have to have the MBP plugged into its AC adapter for the above to work.
