Turning off Password Login at Startup???

ok so i used to live with my roommate now i am moved out and on my own, i want to turn off my passworded login like i used to have before i moved in for college, it used to just login no problem, all i did was go to System Preferences>Security and turned on "Disable Automatic Login"....well now i Un-checked it so that it will login automatically when i turn the computer on, but it still asks for my password and its really annoying, anyone know how to turn this on for sure?

Hi Daniel,
Try the following:
1. Fire up System Preferences.
2. Select Accounts.
3. Click on the Lock at the bottom left and enter your password.
4. Click on Login Options just above the Lock
5. On the right ensure that Automatically Log in as: is ticked and select the account you want from the drop down menu.
That should be it. All okay now?

  • Any way to turn off password requirement on startup (without eliminating the password)?

I'm trying to help a friend with snow leopard.  Her primary hard drive was recently replaced by apple and then restored from time machine.  She's always had the same password but claims that she was never required to enter it for every startup as she is now.  She'd like to turn off that requirement.
I don't want to change her password to none (or null), as I perceive that there may be problems when attempting to do software updates with a null password.
I've looked at system prefs > security, system prefs >accounts, and the keychain and haven't found a way to do this
    Any ideas?
She's using a prior generation MacBook Air.

    Hi Francine
Thanks very much for your answer. I've got it working now thanks to you.
Strangely, it WAS set that way all along.
    But I tried the following:
    - I turned OFF Auto Login for her account,
    - Exited system preferences,
    - Returned to Account Login Options,
    - Turned ON Auto Login for her account, (again)
    - Did a restart
And that seems to have done the trick.  It appears that the restore from time machine, may have only partially restored that setting.
Thanks very much for your quick and accurate response

  • Turning off keychain login

I just moved from a MacBook Pro to an iMac. In fact, I moved from about 5 years of using a MacBook Pro, which functioned as both a desktop (when attached to a monitor) and a laptop.
As part of my security paranoia, I locked the keychain, and required a separate login password for the keychain. So, if you were good enough to get past my login password, up popped the Keychain password which was 20 random characters (which I memorized) and impossible to break.
But my iMac is pretty secure sitting in my house, so I'm less concerned. I guess a thief could get it, my login password and Apple ID password are really complex, and your average thief will just sell the machine, and someone will just reformat, and my privacy will be protected. I just want to save the annoyance of that second login (which is so complicated, I always mistype the password).
Can someone explain how to shut off the separate keychain login? I've clicked a bunch of stuff which I think should turn off keychain login, but it's not working. Besides, the keychain preferences seems to have been written in some lame English, because you can't figure out if by clicking a box you get a double-negative or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Set the keychain password to the same as your login password.

  • How turn off passwords

I want to get MacBook Pro serviced. How do I turn off passwords so it is easy for the technician?

The only way to turn off the password completely is to create a new user account for the technician without any password. Open System Preferences > Users & Groups, press the + button and create a user account. However, I do not recommend you to do this.
Instead, I just recommend you to disable your login password to let the technician use your Mac. To do this, open System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options (you may need to press the padlock at the bottom right corner of the System Preferences window), and choose your user account next to "Automatic login". He/she may not need to install any application, so this is enough.

How do I turn off password generator in Mavericks

    Hey, Jpwhre

  • Can't turn off password protected sharing - Windows 7

When I turn off password protected sharing in the network and sharing center's advanced settings, I save settings but when I go back in, it's turned on again.  Turning it off doesn't stick.
This is what seess to be forcing a password and prevents me from setting up a backup to a network share drive.
    Any ideas?

I noticed there is loads of stuff about problems with Networking Win 7 and XP/2000 PCs etc.  I also couldnt get Password Protected sharing OFF to stick and had problems with Win 7/XP machines loosing sight of each other, when a Win 7 PC was added to a Network.
I saw some comments about the Guest Account - needs to be about with blank password but the password prot off may not like that
So, I enabled it, set a blank password on it but turned it Off!!.
And, as if by magic, Password Protected Sharing OFF engaged OK.
    First, Using the console.
Windows Start - type   mmc   in search box, select mmc.exe which appears at top of Start Window.
On the console window do File - Add/remove Snap ins - select Local Users and groups - Add - Local computer.
Add other snap ins if you wish then OK.  File Save to save your console setup with a 'name'.msc - use the 'name' in the Windows Start search box next time.
    In the console window.
Expand Local Users and groups, select User folder, Select Guest Acct, Rt Click - Properties
Ticked - User Cannot Change Password and Password Never Expires
Unticked - User must change password, Account is disabled, Account is locked out
    Apply then OK
Select Guest Account - Rt Click - Set Password - Proceed - ensure password fields are blank - OK
Windows Start - Control Panel - User Accounts - Add or Remove User Account
Select the Guest Account and Turn it Off
Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center - Change Advanced Sharing Settings
    Expand Home or Work
    Network Discovery ON
    File and printer sharing ON
    Public Folder Sharing ON
    Media Streaming Off
Enable file sharing 40-56 encryption machines (if XP/2000 etc PCs in workgroup)
    Password Protected Sharing OFF
Hope this helps; I could however be wrong about the logic but lets see what the experts say (please modify/delete as appropriate)!!
I must admit the 'connectivity' on my Network has improved; PCs not loosing each other.
    Good Luck
    Steve

  • How do I turn off password at login for all users?

I want to keep separate users but I don't want a password requirement to login for any user. How do I turn off the password requirement at login altogether?

Its not only a matter of other people, but also any software-based threats or even mishaps. For instance, there are some Terminal commands that can be executed by a program, script, or even another user that require authentication. If you do not have a password set then these can be executed directly with administrative privileges. Some of these can be disastrous to the system if used incorrectly.
I agree for the most part if your system is fairly isolated then this is not much of an issue, but there is the rare possibility of malware or simple user mistakes that a good password helps guard against.

  • Cannot turn off password demand

Although I have tried to turn off the password demand in both my incoming and outgoing mail, it still asks me for my password all the time. Can you help?

How have you tried turning off the password demand?
Since you have a password demand for the account's SMTP server, I assume this SMTP server is authenticated?
The account's password for the incoming and outgoing mail server are stored in your Keychain. If you are constantly prompted to manually enter the account's password for the incoming mail server, what is your time interval setting for automatically checking for new mail?
If Mail keeps asking you for your keychain password, your keychain may be set to lock after a certain period of time, or when your computer goes to sleep.
Have you tried running Keychain First Aid on your primary/login Keychain via Keychain Access?

  • Ipod Touch - turn off slider appears on startup and ipod won't play music

Hoping someone can shed some light on my problem.
The two problems I have are:
    1) the red Turn Off slider appears immediately on turning the iPod on
    2) when the play button is hit, it automatically pauses immediately.
    The problems in detail:
I have a 2nd generation iPod touch that was working fine until I updated to 3.1.2 firmware. It worked fine for a few hours and then the touch screen began behaving weirdly. First, it wouldn't allow me to slide the unlock slider across the screen, and then when it finally would let me, it basically accessed random apps and moved randomly between the app home screens. All of this was jerky and erratic and it looked as if my iPod had gone schizo!
I took the iPod to a Genius at the Apple Store, but when I arrived the problem had fixed itself (at least, the random accessing of apps etc), but I noticed that on startup, the red turn off slider would appear immediately. After canceling the slider, I went to play some music. Immediately after hitting play, the ipod paused. Repeated attempts yielded the same results. It won't let me press play or listen to any music, regardless of whether it was iTunes purchased, an audiobook, podcast or whatever. You hit the play button, it turns into a pause button for a split second and then reverts back.
I have tried restoring the iPod a number of times on my computer and other macs (I'm running 10.5.8 OS X and iTunes 9). I have also done a couple of option+restores, having downloaded previous firmware versions (3.0 first, then 2.2.1). Both attempts left me with an error message (20). I am going spare about this and would really appreciate any advice!
There is one thing that worries me. I have been told by the Genius I spoke with that the moisture indicator inside the headphone jack shows that it has been exposed to water. Would this result in the above described problems? Everything else seems to work fine. I have even managed to get YouTube back after fiddling with the date settings (i.e. setting the date to 2030 and then back). I want to either restore my iPod to a previous firmware version that worked or make the update that I paid for work the way it should!
    I appreciate any suggestions!

this happened to me. I figgered that after you play apps like games which r side ways causes this for example nba live lite it caused the problem to me same when the slider stays in one spot i see that apps cause this problem. i just figgered it out cause it happens allways after certian game apps or other app. To fix this test all the apps and see and delete the ones which cause this but not all apps which r side ways cause it. I hope this helps

  • Need to turn off Password protection

I was just exploring and set a password and now I need to turn off the password. When I go to the Password page it is "Enabled." How do I disable this?

    Mike-A-Holic wrote:
I cannot turn off the password either. It shows a little lock next to the box with a check in it and I can't even highlight it
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Typically, that is due to one or more of the following:
You are a BES user, and your BES admins have required (by IT Policy) for a device lock password to be enforced. To change that, you need to talk to your BES admins as they control it.
You are not a BES user, but your device was once in it's life activated on BES, and was not properly cleansed of it's IT Policy before coming into your possession. You can check for that via this:
KB30076 How to check for an IT Policy on a BlackBerry smartphone
If it is the case, then let us know as there are some very specific procedures you can follow to cleanse it, but they must be followed exactly.
You have Content Protection or Encryption enabled on your device, which requires a device lock password to enforce.
Good luck and let us know!
