Turning off start up

How do you configure QuickTime so that it won't automatically launch at start up?

Okay. For the icon, in the QuickTime Player go "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences". In the Advanced tab, uncheck "Install QuickTime Icon in System Tray" and click OK.

  • How can I turn off Start up Sound?

How can I turn off the start up sound, on both my 10.7.5  iMac 24" Late 2006 and my 10.8.3  iMac 27" Late 2009 Mountain Lion.
Plus my Superdrive has stopped working on both Computers. Please help asap.
With kind regards, and many thanks.

The best way to turn off the startup sound is to mute speakers before turning off your computer.
Also, apps that help you turn off the startup sound don't work with iMacs. There's a command that will allow you to turn it off without muting your speakers. See > http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/

  • Can't turn off "Start Section"

I have a document that has a page that won't behave...
I can't turn off the "Start Section" option!
Any ideas? Not sure what governs this.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi Mike-
I've tried about everything I can think of - creating new pages, starting/deleting sections, shuffling pages... nothing seems to work.
I've just discovered something odd. Looks like every page has a "Start Section" designation..
[edit] I should add that only the first page in each section, correctly, has the little "start section" triangle over it.
I've uploaded the document with all content stripped out - for some reason it's still 8mb...

  • Turning Off Start-Up Chime

    Hello:
How can I turn off the Start-Up Chime?  I had it off when I was using SL, but dont remember where to go or how to turn it off.
    Thanks.

Some systems allow you to "Mute" sound and that will stop the startup chime (such as Macbooks and Macbook Pros).
However, other systems insist on ringing the chime, such as iMacs.
For my iMac I use an app called Psst which silences the startup chime.
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16780/psst>
There are other apps that will do the same thing.

  • Turn off start chord

Where do I turn off the opening chord that sounds when I first press my start button? Had this off before a repair, but it is back and I can't find the setting.
    Thanks.

I recall, either late in Panther or early in Tiger, that the boot chime did not work all the time. May be another brain fade, not sure. (;>)
If you want, and I can not vouch for this, apparently you can write a script:
Auto mute the boot-up sound in Mac OS X
OSXFAQ Reader Tip By Robert Cailliau
is indeed interesting, because many of us would like their Macs to start in silence, especially laptops in busy places. Especially embarrassing if you have to restart your Mac in front of an audience.
For years I have used two simple applescripts, one run at startup, one at shutdown. Unfortunately, OS X no longer has (or does not yet have) shutdown/logout items. So here is my current solution:
    1) write an applescript:
    set volume 3
make it a run-only application, save it in your applications, add it to your login items. Now whenever you start up or log in, the volume will be set to 3 (you can choose any value between 0 and 7)
    2) write an applescript:
    tell application "Finder"
display dialog "Shut down the computer now?" buttons {"No",
    "Yes"} default button "Yes"
if the button returned of the result is "Yes" then
    set volume 0
    shut down
    end if
    end tell
Make it a run-only application, save it in your applications, then add it to the dock.
Now to shut down, click this application and click its "Yes" button. The volume will be set to 0 before shutdown, therefore there will be no loud sound on startup. Yet after startup the first applescript will run and set the volume back to your desired level.

  • Turn off start sound

how can i turn off MBPro start sound?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The easiest solution is to mute the volume when you are going to turn off your computer, so the startup sound won't appear.
If you want different solutions, the best is to use the StartNinja app > http://www.allvu.com/index.php/products/startninja.html This will mute the startup sound even if the volume is turned on

  • Turn off start up sound

I've just upgraded to Lion from Leopard and I've been using a programme to turn off the start up sound. However, this programme doesn't work on Lion.
Do you have any suggestions to other programmes that does the same as my old one?
I've tried turning the sound off completely, but it doesn't always work and I forget about it half the time.

So far I've used Startup Sound, but it's not compatible with Lion I hoped that I might get some recommendations.
The reason why I can't have my mac on standby is that it's usually placed in my bedroom and I have an ext screen and an ext hd attached to it there. If I turn off the power to these two devices but don't turn off the mac the ext hd especially will blink/make white noise and I'll have to deattach the ext devices to avoid this. It's simply too much bother (admitted, there's a hint of laziness in this as well).
Lastly, I simply don't see the point of the noise. The mac could just as well notify me by making a pop up message.

  • E65: can u turn off start up tone

Hi i was wondering if ne1 knew how to turn off the statup tone u get when turning the phone on, i was able to do this for my old nokia 7510i and thought u should be able to do the same with the E65 ne help wud be appreciated.

    Thank u rmop.
I just got my E95-1 phone and I'm not sure I'm gonna like as much as all my other Nokia phones I've had every year for the past God knows how many years. But I got it because of the 5mp camera.
But on all my previous phones thare has always been a "startup tone on/off" option. I was seriously thinkin of changing the phone because the bl**dy music was driving me (& everyone else around me) MAD everytime I turnd it on!
I put the warning tone to "off" and .... it worked.
Thank you. Why don't they say that in the manual or hav it as an option? Ia there ANYONE who actually wants that noise when they secretly turn their phone on? (I had a DREADFUL motorola once and that playd a tune when u turned it off too! REALLY annoying in the cinema or theatre... got rid of it withiin a couple of days!)

  • Thunderbolt Display turns off / flicker / very warm

My Thunderbolt Display 27 is connected to my MacBook Pro Late 2013. After a while it turns off, starting to flicker. Disconnecting from MacBook and reconnecting the Display works for a while again. Same problem I have with my older MacBook Pro. So I am sure its not a problem of my latest MacBook Pro.
I have tried to turn of power saving, automatically brightness adjustment, doesn't work.
The left backside of the Thunderbolt is really very warm. Maybe its a fan problem ? The Display is only two years old and I was expecting to use it at least for 6 years.
Current firmware for thunderbolt display is installed.
Is there any solution for that ?

can someone please help me as its not letting me turn it on. i have tried to start it up pressing both buttons connecting to itunes and its not working still., it wont even charge or show apple icon anymore,

You may not get a response as you are shouting at everyone.
All caps indicates shouting, is considered rude, and is difficult to read.
Many will not read such posts.
Try turning off you caps lock and asking again.

  • When I try to open iTunes,it tries to start but than I get a message stating-iTunes has stopped working , close the program. Does anyone have a problem like this? I'm using windows 7 compatibility turned off.

I'm using a Dell PC with windows 7. Apple Store cannot open completely. An error message states- iTunes has stopped working, close the program.
I have spoken to at least 3 Techs with no solutions found for this problem. Compatibility mode turned off. Newest Download from Apple site.

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

My iphone 4S only start whit cable plug in and then show battery very low (with red line end) then try to turn on but show searching in operator name command and not connecting and no work properly and when I plug out it turn off!!! what should I do?

I'm afraid you'll have to get the phone serviced, dropping the phone must have damaged additional parts inside the phone.
But Apple will not service the phone anymore, opening the phone and replacing the battery should only be done by authorized personal, not by users.
You'll have to look for a 3rd party repair shop and see if they can fix this, sorry.
