Turning off text notification durning phone call

is there anyway to change the text notification to where it does not ring throught when i am in a phone call. I have a song that plays as a ringtone for my texts and when i am in a phone call it plays through and i can not figure out how to turn it off. this is a Iphone 4s thanks

thanks this will be a start at least hoping for a permanant solution other than doing away my song my droid didn't do this but so far still don't regret the switch from droid to iphone!

You can try a hard reset by holding down the home button and the lock button at the same time until the apple appears. If that doesn't work I think you should definitely go into an apple store.

Screen turned off (goes black) during phone call and won't wake up

During a phone call, if the screen goes black (I presume due to the proximity sensor), the phone will sometimes not wake up - even with the home button - and not allow me to access the touch screen. It's frustrating if I receive another call (call waiting) or if I have an option to press.
My first iPhone 6 required a hard reset (home plus power) to take it out of this mode. The replacement phone I received from the Apple store will wake up with the home button after the call terminates, but not during the call. This is not a situation where the lighting in the room is too dark for the screen to wake up. The event will happen during the day in a room lit by sunlight.
It also seems that the situation happens when I call a phone and go to voice mail or have a number option to press (1, for sales, 2 for tech support, etc) - but perhaps that is the only time I notice the issue as that is when it would be meaningful for me to access the screen.
In case it matters, I have a black 64GB iPhone 6 for use on the Verizon network. I have also upgraded to 8.02.
Any help would be appreciated as I find it hard to believe that this is a hardware issue that has occurred on two phones.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I can imagine it would be frustrating to have multiple devices with the same proximity issue, where the screen remains black while on a call. Take a look at the article linked below and try the suggestions provided, like testing the iPhone without a protective case.
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
After finishing a call the display remains black
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case.
If there is a protective or antiglare film on the display, remove the film.
Clean the screen, especially around the receiver, with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.

HT1349 I need to turn off the "find my phone" feature on my iPhone 5. The company I worked for took back their iPhone and now I cannot receive texts on my new LG F6 phone. Can I do this w/o the serial number?

I replaced my iPhone 5 with an LG F6 phone and now I cannot receive text messages from my friends with iPhones. Can somebody please tell me where to go to turn off the "Find your phone" feature and what ever else I need to turn off to accomplish this objective? Thank you.

Find My iPhone has nothing to do with receiving or not receiving text messages.
What you should have done is turn off iMessage prior to handing over the device.

Settings > Notifications > Off controls only _*push notifications*_ for the apps listed. It has no effect at all for SMS messages.
Settings > Messages > Show Preview > Off will show only the phone number (or name if in Contacts), but there is no way to show only a generic SMS indicator without the # as the OP wants.

New iPhones don't come setup with an Apple ID/Password. What you're experiencing is called Activation Lock, & unless you know the original Apple ID/Password that was originally used to first activate this phone, you won't be able to reactivate it.
You can login to iCloud.com, from any computer, use Find My Phone to locate & erase the phone. But, you'll still need to know the original Apple ID/Password to reactivate it.

You should be able to prevent your messages from going to your computer, by removing your phone number from iMessages and turning off Text Message Forwarding using these instructions. They are about turning on these features but you should turn them off instead:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.

1. Provide your iOS version
2. Define: "using words with friends." Are you referring to text messages or a specific 3rd party app? In any case, this is not controlled by iTunes.
Settings > Notification Center > select app you're using (Messages??) > select what type of notifications you do and don't want.

How do I turn off the notification in Backup Assistant Plus Media?

If you turn on "schedule backup", there is nowhere to select the time of the backup. Setting the time of "Recurring Sync" in Backup Assistant + Contacts has no affect on the time of the backup in Backup Assistant Plus Media. Invariably it runs it a 3 am and then sounds the default notification sound. I can't find any way to stop it except to set the default notification sound to "silent". There are some notifications that I want to hear, so this is not a good solution. Does anyone know how to turn off the notification sound?

Great question! We don't want these notfications keeping anybody up late at night and I personally know how what feels; we'll get to the bottom of it. Is there a way to turn off text messaging while you listen to songs/videos?

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to temporarily turn off text messaging while you are listening to a song or video? I find it very annoying that if I let someone listen to the videos on my phone - that while they are doing that and a text comes in - it shows up right on the phone for them to read it. This did not play out too well when my girlfriend was listening to it yesterday.(keep all smart comments to a minimum please, lol). Can you turn off texting while you listen and then turn it back on when you finish? Please say yes... Thanks

Nathan, thanks for that info....I appreciate that. That makes a lot of sense (what you said about airplane mode) and seems to be a good feature. I had been told a couple of times by airline personnel to please turn off my phone.
This seems to be the answer I was looking for. I just hope that it will still play in my car. I was finally able to find a Belkin Cable to connect it to to hear music. I have an auxillary port for it. That is where & when the trouble lies. When I am listening to the ipod portion - watching a video - and hearing the music come from my speakers in the car. All of a sudden, a text comes through and you can read it & it asks where you want to 'view' or 'ignore'. I'm gonna test it...

How do I turn off text messaging to my Comcast phone number? The xfinity app, in Text Settings, subscriptions options, teases you to think you can do it, but all it does is confirm that text messaging is active. This looks like a bug. I have wasted far too much time navigating the web site(s) and from my mobile devices via the app, account settings, etc, etc. Very frustrating.

Comcast/XFINITY,I agree. As a customer I would like the opportunity to turn off this feature. I don't use it and it perpetuates the notion that someone is communicating with me (passively?) when they are in fact not. It is generally accepted and well known that mobile phones are text capable and we use them accordingly. Text capability on a land line is not needed. It provides yet one more communication channel that I am forced(?) to check--because Comcast is imposing their will on me. I need fewer and more efficient communication tools. . .not more.
