Turning off the iphone or rebooting it ?

Hey guys.
Just wondering, If i turn off my iphone 4 by pushing the sleep button untill
the slide to turn off appears, then sliding it off, will that reboot the phone ?
Whats the difference if i hold sleep and home for 15 seconds ? how is that different then turning off the phone ?
Thanks

Holding sleep and home until the Apple icon appears is the same as re-booting a PC - all systems are re-started from scratch.
Turning off is like hibernating - everything is restored to the same state as before the turn off

After I connect my iPhone (3GS 5.0.1) to any Ad-hoc wireless Network then walk away out of the reach of my wifi network, my iPhone can't find any wifi Network afterwards, only by turning off the iPhone completely and turning on again.
switching off wifi and on again or going into airplane mode did't help!
This problem happens only with ad-hoc wifi networks not with normal ones.
(Ad-Hoc network was created on XP Computer)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sorry, but the 169.x.x.x IP address is internally generated by the iPod (and iPhone) and indicates that a network has been detected but no IP address has been issued. Your friends iPhone was not connected to your ad hoc network either - it connected to the internet through the 3G network.
You should read through the Vista help screens on ad hoc networking for some insight how this works. You should be able to get some ideas there.
In the mean time, $40 or less will buy you a very capable wireless router with four Ethernet ports and will simplify your network tremendously. Having used Windows ICS for a long time, the addition of a router and a real network simplified things so much.

  • My update to 7.0.2 was working great until I turn off the iphone

please someone can help ..the update was great ...speed, a lot of new good things ..all nine yards
..until I turn off the iphone 4..when I turn it on again the wifi was not working anymore
I read some suggestions..tryed some of them ..like taking the coma on my iphone4 name...that was the one that turn almost the best..it turn grey to green but the it stayed for almost 5 minutes looking for a network..and it is not the router..I have my ipad next to me working excellent with wifi but with old ios6
    please fix the problem??

    reset all settings
settings- general- reset - reset all settings
    now reconnect to wifi
settings - wifi- click network name - enter password - join
if issue persists backup info and restore via itunes

  • IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?

Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge

Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
    But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.

  • How to avoid turning off the iPhone when its locked.

    Hiya,
Wondering if there is any settings to avoid turing off the iPhone when its locked. When the phone is locked with passcode holding the power button on the top provides the option to turn off the phone. So is there any way to restrict it?
    Thanks,
    SaN

    No.

  • How do you turn off the iphone to charge it

I am having serious charging issues with the phone> I read that you should turn off the phone to charge it. OK I do that but as soon as I plug the charger in, it turns back on!
How do I turn it off??

there is no need to turn it off to charge, but if you want to turn it off, hold down the power button (on top) until the slider appears that allows you to turn it off.

  • No turning off the iPhone when its locked

    Gracias

You cannot prevent the phone from being turned off, locked or not. Even if you could, a thief could still take the phone somewhere where there was no service or just wait until the battery died.

  • How is it possible to turn off the iphone when it is locked?

Hello! when it was announced the ios 6, I expected something that solved, at least to me it seems quite serious. The issue is that when the iphone is locked and I lose, I'm not worth anything to activate "find my iPhone" because the person who stole it will just turn it off.
Would not it be more logical to put it out after entering the unlock code?
I, and I think many more people would feel more comfortable knowing that our iphones are safer this way. I hope that at some point incorporate this feature to ios.
    Thank you very much.

  • If i pause a download and turn off the iphone, can the download continue later when i turn on my iphone?

Will it continue the download or it starts all over again?

It should. I know when I pause downloads on my computer, they automatically resume when i reopen iTunes from the point they were at when i turned it off. I would assume the iPhone would work the same way.

Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons for about 10 seconds until the iPhone begins to restart. If still problem, Restore iPhone on your computer. Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to compter with USB Cable, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, click the Restore button of iTunes.

This the Activation Lock. Read here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5818
The only way is to login to iCloud with your computer browser and wipe the iPhone.
If you can't then you have a brick, Apple won't help and AL cannot be bypass.
