Turning off the Widgets in the dock

Hi,
I want to turn off my widgets in the dock to save memory. Is this possible?
Thanks

Hi, WA.
This answer depends on what you mean by "the dock." I'm assuming the Dock, since you stated "dock" not the Widget Bar.
Given that, I read your question to mean that you want to use the Dashboard icon in the Dock to close a Widget, similar to how one can switch to an open window in a given application from that application's Dock icon, or Quit/Hide an application from its Dock icon. Correct?
If that's the case, then the answer is no: you have to open Dashboard to close a widget.
You don't need to disable widgets as JDee suggested in order to close them and save the RAM and VM they are using. If there's a widget open on the Dashboard and you no longer want it active, simply close it:
1. Open Dashboard.
2. Either:• Click the in the lower-left corner of Dashboard. Click the (X) in the upper-left corner of each widget you want to close. Close Dashboard.
• Press and hold the Option key, then mouse over a Widget you want to close. Click the (X) in the Widget's upper-left corner and it will close. Mouse over and close additional widgets as desired. Release the Option key. Close Dashboard. If you use the Widget Manager (Widgets widget) as JDee suggested, then you are removing the widget from the Widget Bar, meaning you'll have to enable the widget in the Widget Manager before you can use that widget again in the future.
Widgets only consume RAM and VM when they are on the Dashboard. They consume neither RAM nor VM simply by being in the Widget Bar: that simply lists installed widgets which are available to be placed on the Dashboard (activated).
Good luck!

That's not currently an option in the Muse youtube widget.
We'll add support for that option in a future release of Muse.

  • I cannot change song order on playlist with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column( up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4.

I cannot change song order on playlists (old or new) with highlight and drag. I have turned off shuffle and highlighted the far left column (up/down arrow) of playlist. My mac pro is running 10.5.8  and am using itunes 10.4. I can't drag and drop "music" to "playlist" but can right click and get the option to "add to playlist." No such option for moving song within playlist, only the up and down arrow which moves song from top to bottom list, so if it is #4 from top it will move to #4 from bottom. Stupid I know. I spent over an hour with Apple support, reinstalled itunes, restarted and rebooted computer. Networked with my laptop which is running 10.6.8 and itunes 10.4 and it can drag and drop. The final Apple support solution was to reinstall my operating system. I would prefer not to. Any other ideas?

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

  • HT4098 How do I turn off auto-renew for the Guardian?

Trying to turn off auto-renew for The Guardian.  From PC.
    I did the following:
    1. Launch iTunes on your computer
    2. Choose Store>Sign In from the iTunes menu.
    3. Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.
    4. Choose Store>View My Account. You may be asked to re-enter your Apple ID password.  Click
View Account.  (I chose "iTunes Store", in the side bar, since the word "Store" in the menu bar didn't list "My Account". Then I chose "Account" in Quick Links, on the right-hand side of the screen. I got the "Account Information" ok.)
    5. From the Account Information screen, scroll to the bottomof the page to the Settings section.
Then it said to:  6. Click "Manage" to the right of "Subscriptions".
The word "Subscriptions" does not appear in the Settings section.  Nothing in the Settings section takes me to a page on which to manage my subscriptions.

The Find my iPhone service option is given to you when you first set up the device. If you just reset it, you may have been given that option. So, in other words, the service may have been enabled even if you didn't realize it. You can then go to www.icloud.com and click on Find my iPhone, and have it play a sound. Or, you can use the Find my iPhone app on your mom's iPhone, but the service would still need to be turned on on your iPod.
Unlike Compukid said, Apple will not assist in locating a lost device without the Find my iPhone service.
I found that out 2 years ago, it's just that I thought Apple might have changed that.

Can find my iPhone be turned on remotely? I had it turned off, and twice in the last month I've found that it is turned on and someone was tracking my location. I'm a little freaked out! Is there any way that someone could be turning "find my iPhone" on remotely? I was under the assumption that the only way to turn the service on was from my phone itself.. Is there any way that my phone is somehow resetting itself to a time when the app was turned on? I'm just grabbing straws here... I have no idea. I just know that the location arrow came on at the top of my phone, and it showed that someone was tracking my phone at that very moment... Any help would be appreciated!

Find my phone can only be enabled from the device itself.
