Turning off updates?

?  I am a Robotics engineer and a mountain climber- I'm going away for 3 years on a trip into the wilderness...  How do I turn off this ridiculous iOS updating bs?  I'm not trying to hip- I don't need an outlet to recharge it either- I need to know how I can make this work or do I need to go with windows?

One way, is to fill up the storage space so there is no room for the ios update.  I think ios is always comes as complete download.  Leave only one gig free and there will be no room for an ios update.  Doesn't the ios updates only come via wifi?  Download some large videos that you can delete when you need more space.

  • Turn off Updates?

Is there any way to turn off updates? My little red update pop-up is giving me heart failure coz it's always on. The network is never good enough to download a full update over-air before the download freezes, and if I do it from my computer it doesn't seem to take - iTunes downloads the updates but says there are still updates available, but when I click on Get Updates there are no updates. Very frustrating. I don't even use most of the apps I have - maybe I should just delete them? I'm just not sure deleting the apps will get rid of the red App bug.

    Hello Mark.
As long as you do not mind loosing data in the App the following steps below may help you out. If you are using Apps. that required you to sign up for an account, chances are your info is stored on a back server on there end and will populate when you launch the App and sign back into the account.
More information on what your Apps can and can not do as far as protecting data can be obtained from the App developer.
    1. Connect iPhone - and in the Apps Tab - Un-sync applications from the iPhone. Then check iPhone and make sure none of them are on the iPhone anymore.
    2. Now in iTunes on the top Menu bar in iTunes. Click on Store - De-authorize computer, then go back and re-authorize computer.
    3. Now Sync applications back to the iPhone.
In other rare occasions you can do those first 2 steps, but before you do the third step. Download a free App from iTunes Store then sync all Apps back to the phone.
In other rare occasions you may need to restore iPhone, and setup as new iPhone. Please be aware if you restore iPhone it will erase all data on the iPhone. So ensure it is properly backed up in the proper programs. Link posted below.

  • Let me know when v29 gets fixed, meanwhile I've gone back to v28 and turned off updates

29 just doesn't behave. I can't put the tabs on the bottom, had lots of crashes, it's just not ready yet

You can, using an add-on like Tabs on Bottom or Classic Theme Restorer, or a user style.

  • How do I turn off update notifications

FF 7.0.1 WinXP. I want to turn off the annoying popup update reminders. I know 8 exists, I do not wish to update to 8, and I cannot find any option to stop Firefox nagging me.

  • Turn off update notifications

I am sick and tired of getting the popup notifications that I need to go update something on the OS. There are updates that I do NOT want, I can manage updating my system without having to continously move the pop up out of the way, and every day having to suspend them for 1 day. I want to suspend them for 1 week, not 1 day.

guess this did NOT show up as a reply to the particular comment for which  i clicked the "reply" link; so editing to explain.
this was in reply to HW's reply to suggestion about going to software update.
    ========================
assume this is no longer an issue. just had to figure out how to turn this off myself. but think u misunderstood the suggestion above your comment. he did NOT say to go to the notifcation center (since app store is NOT there). he said to go to SOFTWARE UPDATE in System Prefs. The fix is supposed to be to turn off automatic updates. apparently that pref controls OS updates, as well as App Store updates. i am waiting to confirm that this has, indeed, removed those annoying notifications!

  • Turn Off Updates to a Spry Region?

I have a script that manipulates the contents of a spry
region by removing selected rows, then re-applying a pre-existing
filter. I'd like to temporarily suspend any updates to the region
so that the contents remain static until I've finished all my
manipulations, then I'd want to update the region to show the final
result of my processing. Is there a way to turn off and on updates
    to a region?

    cmanmcl,
This can be done by signing out of Messages in Settings -> Messages, then signing in with the desired Apple ID.
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > Messages, then tap Send & Receive.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID:
iPhone, iPod touch: Tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage" and enter your current Apple ID.
iPad: Enter your current Apple ID.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID, tap your previous Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
iPhone, iPod touch: Tap "Use your Apple ID for iMessage" and enter your current Apple ID.
iPad: Enter your current Apple ID.

  • Turn off "Updates are ready to install"pop up on l...

I have Automatic Updates turned off,  but everytime I launch I now get an annoying "Updates are ready to install" pop-up, I use skype 6.14 and have no interest in any of the crap MS are now forcing on me.
Does anyone know how I can get rid of this pop-up, or even where it came from, it never used to do this ?

  • Turn off "Updated Calendar/Reminders e-mails"

    Hey.
So, recently, iCloud started sending my wife emails whenever I edited a calendar or reminder list. If you click the small, green share icon to the right of every calendar and reminder list in the iCloud web interface, you get an option to switch these email updates on/off. All of mine are switched off.
Anyone else seeing this? It is extremely annoying having your inbox filled up with these meningless messages.
Both of our iPhones are updated to the latest iOS version. Her iMac is still on 10.6 (I have to update it...), but she only uses the iCloud web interface. My MacBook Pro is on the latest version of 10.7. We do not use iCloud for email (we use Google Apps on our domain, just for e-mail now, though).
Thankful for any insight into this annoying problem.

Having the same problem.  Very annoying.
One thing that looks promising but is not yet working:  if you sign into your calendar on iCloud.com, you'll see that any shared calendar/reminder list has a green circle icon (looks like it's "transmitting") next to it.  If you click on that icon, there's a checkbox for this preference:
"Email me when this calendar is changed"
    or
"Email me when reminders are updated"
The problem is, unchecking the boxes doesn't stop those emails. In fact, it seems the default is unchecked.  I played around with this (check--uncheck--check--uncheck) to no avail.
Another user posted the following in another discussion (link):
"Just got off the phone with an Apple iCal Representative. Here's what we did to fix the problem:
Pulled up the Library folder and dragged the "Caches" folder and dragged it to the trash.
Then, we went into the Preferences folder and deleted anything with ".ical" in it.
That seemed to fix them problem. Hope this helps!"
    I haven't tried this yet.

  • Turning off update notifications?

Since they released iOS7, I've rarely synced my iPad with my computer, but when I do, it keeps asking if I want to download and install the latest version.  Since I hate this iOS and still want my iPad to be an adults iPad and not a Fisher-Price toy (plus all the other issues), I will not do this.  Is there any way to shut this off so that it stops bugging me?  I admit it's minor, but it is still annoying.  Just curious to see if anybody has found a way to turn it off.

Honestly, I think your being a bit overly dramatic, but I don't know what frustrations you've been facing.
What I DO know is that this is your one and only post here. Why don't you try searching for solutions to some of your issues - or maybe easier, just post your issues in new threads. I'm betting someone will be able to help you find a solution to most. The icons being the one exception - you simply won't be able to change them.
A small word of advice that I hope you don't take the wrong way. People here volunteer their time. We are all just users like you. You can probably guess, for the most part we like Apple and their products so go easy on the attitude and colorful commentary. You'll find people are very willing to help in most cases. But not so much when people rant. It's easier to help people who want it than to get a bunch of push back. Take it or leave it.
I'll look for your posts. :-)

  • How do I install DPS Desktop Tools where manual updates have been turned off?

I'm using AAMEE 3.1 for deployment across a higher education campus. I turned off updates in the initial install process planning to use AAMEE to create packages and ARD to deploy them.
I need to install the Digial Publishing Desktop Tools (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=182&platform=Macintosh) but I can not manually install updates on the clients, and AAMEE is not accepting adding the update to the workflow.
    Suggestions?

    hi,
Yes, you can temporarily enable the updates. Just rename the file AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat present at path
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat . Then you can apply the updates you want on the machine. Once you are done, just rename it back to its original name and the updates will be suppressed again.

  • Turn off crapware apps update notices

Like everyone else with this phone, mine came loaded with crapware from places like Blockbuster, Rhapsody, and several media apps from Verizon.  I keep getting notices to update them.  I don't ever intend to use any of them.
Is there any way to tag the crapware apps to turn off update notices for them?  I understand they can't be deleted from the phone.
Along with the dropping 4G network problem, the crapware issue is my biggest annoyance with Verizon.
I've been a customer of theirs for 11 years, and this contract may be the last.

That's correct. You can shut off all update notices.
The problem is that the "automatic update" function for some apps isn't very "automatic." I've found it necessary, for some apps, to click on manual update notifications even when "automatic" is checked.
However, for those that want to take this path, go to the Android Market, click "menu,"  then click "settings," and uncheck "notifications."
To close out, the crapware apps seem to have a marketing concept that believe if they are in your face enough times, you'll eventually click on them.
My advice is don't unless you have lots of money to spend on data..  Videos and music from services likes Blockbuster and Rhapsody will quickly chew up your data budget on a smartphone.  You're better off, if you really want to use these services, getting them on your desktop and laptop.
Another tip is don't fire up cloud services while on 4G. It still pays to wait for access to wifi unless you really need it, like GPS, etc.

  • Installed itunes on another computer and need to turn off automatic update

I have itunes on my desktop at home and it is set to manually update my songs on my ipod (I have more songs on my 80GB ipod video than on my desktop). I am now traveling with a laptop and just installed itunes on my laptop. itunes won't let you turn off the automatic update setting until you plug your ipod into your computer. I am afraid to plug my laptop into my computer because it will automatically update the music (wipe out all my music on my ipod). Can I somehow turn off automatic update (switch to manual) before I plug my ipod into my laptop? Also, I know there is software that allows you to move the music from the ipod to the laptop, but I don't want to move all that music to the laptop. I want to continue updating my ipod manually on my laptop. Please help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
If you set the iPod to be manually managed on one computer, that setting will follow the iPod to any other computer you connect it to. However, even if you don't have the iPod set that way, when you connect the iPod to a foreign library, you'll receive an message in iTunes when it recognizes the iPod that the iPod is synced with another library, and you can click 'Cancel' and still get to the iPod's Summary page to put it into manual mode, without it changing any content on the iPod. If it makes you feel better, you can also click Edit and go to Preferences, click the Syncing tab, and select the option to "Disable automatic syncing for iPods & iPhones" prior to connecting your iPod.
    Hope this is helpful

  • Time doesn't update periodically, links don't open in emails, turning off and on at least once a day...any ideas why???

I'm having to turn off and on my iPhone at least once a day to update time, and/or to receive texts that are not coming through when they should've gone through.  Also, why don't the links open when i click on them from my email?  Also, phone has to reconnect to wifi every time I unlock it.  Any recommendations???

First thing to try is a reboot of your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
This is something that often cures strange problems like yours. I hope it works for you.
