Turning on bluetooth with out keyboard/while logged out

So, a few days ago, I spilt hot chocolate on my keyboard. Now, I'm sure that it won't come back. I have another computer with a bluetooth keyboard at my disposal, but the thing is, my keyboard-less computer is logged out, and I have no way of getting into the regular system preferences.
Is it possible to pair a bluetooth keyboard with a iMac without logging in, or do I have to go out and get another keyboard?

You may need another keyboard.
If you rinse out the one with the spill using tap water and then let it dry out for a week or so you may find that it still works.

  • Activating onscreen keyboard while logged out.

    Is there any way to activate the onscreen keyboard without being logged in, or having access to a working keyboard.
    Or, alternately, is there a way to activate bluetooth without being able to log in?

    If the keyboard is already paired with another device, remove that pairing. The keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.

  • Pair a keyboard while logged out

    My wireless keyboard died. I bought a new one. I am logged out of my mac and cannot type in the password. All instructions for pairing a keyboard assumed you are already logged in.
    How can I pair my keyboard from a logged out status?
    Thanks!

  • Backing Up While Logged Out

    I am looking to do nightly backups of my server (10.4.7) to 5 different partitions. I am using SuperDuper to do this but I have found that I need to be logged in for the scheduler to run. Is there a script of some sort I can use to log my XServe in at a certain time and then logout when the backup is complete? Or is there software out there that will allow me to do a nightly backup to different partitions while logged out? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    you can use rsync, though many will complain that it does a poor job of backing up metadata. in my experience, i've never had a problem with it. either use the installed version at /usr/bin/rsync or download a patched version. links to the patched version can be found in threads here.
    also, BRU will work for you. in limited testing, it's been more reliable than Retrospect and provides more useful options than i've found with Retrospect.

  • Does power nap work while logged out?

    Will power nap work while logged out and asleep, or do you have to remain logged in?

    @Kappy, in my experience Apple does not post support documents that mention unreleased products.  The doc is dated in September.  No 27" iMacs shipped until December.
    @Shootist007, the two power nap use cases I can foresee wanting on a desktop would be photostream updates and time machine backups.  When I am on vacation I load a lot of pictures from my camera to my iPad.  I'd love to see those photos updated in my iPhoto library before I even get home.  And, who wouldn't want their backups to happen while they are not using the computer?  As for the doc not mentioning the iMacs see the comment above.
    I was hoping that one of the lucky people to have actually taken delivery of a late 2012 iMacs would comment.  Thanks.

  • Leopard Server 10.4 Blogs/Wiki and Safari error with www alias and Log Out

    I have a Leopard Server 10.5 setup with dns and web services including blogs and wikis setup. If I browse to http://hostname.domain.com/users using Safari 5.0.1, I see that the session is not logged in (i.e. Log Out is not visible. I can login and create a blog and logout with no issue. I can do this on Firefox and Camino as well.
    Now, if I browse to http://www.domain.com/users however... the Log Out button is visible all the time in Safari 5.0.1 only - Firefox and Camino show the correct status of a non logged in session. In Safari 5.0.1 it is not possible to login to post or create a blog WHEN the www.domain.com url is used.
    I have rebuilt Leopard server twice on a physical and a virtual machine for testing and can reproduce the exact same error. It's a mix of using www.domain.com and Safari. Any other browser works fine and ALL browsers work fine with any other alias pointing to the same site, including hostname.domain.com
    Testing on Safari 5.0.1 on the server itself works fine. Testing on clients was on 10.6 and 10.5 and was performed on 4 separate client machines. Browsing on the server was fine but browsing on any client would produce the error when using www.domain.com.
    If anyone can offer any suggestions, please help!

    I tried several new approaches, but nothing worked so far.
    The update to 10.5.5 made things worse. Connections are dropping all over the place, when saving from Adobe programs in particular.
    Printing from clients to a Xerox Phaser 5500 works, but choosing a different paper size than the default chosen in the cups admin interface goes all wrong and either prints on the default paper size, but down/upscaled to the chosen paper size or prints on the chosen paper size and down/upscaled as if you were printing to the default paper size. (e.g. default paper size is A4, you choose A3 with an A3 document. Document prints on A4 and is downscaled to A4, or prints on A3 and is downscaled to A4.)
    There is no way I can keep this thing in production much longer. I tried reinstalling again, but that did not change any behaviour. Another nice "feature": InDesign disables "edit original" when the path to the linked file contains any directoryname with more than 8 characters in length.
    Coupled with a sometimes disappearing "dirserv" (it just stops working until I reboot the whole computer) the decision stands to move away from the Xserve.
    Leopard Server 10.5.x just does not seem to work well with windows clients.
    We will migrate to a windows server 2003 running ExtremZ-IP for the macintosh clients this weekend. Too bad that Apple does not allow Bootcamp to work on Xserves, at least the hardware would have been useful then.
    (As a nice finishing touch, the harddisk partition where all data resides did become corrupt over the weekend. "The volume Daten could not be repaired."
    Disk Utility and first aid did show nothing on friday ... saturday after no work being done on the partition this error shows up. The only solution I could find was to reformat the partition and restore from a previous backup. Another weekend down the drain. Sorry for the rant, but 6 weekends in a row is enough.)

    hi Barry,
    what parameters in Secure Store do i need to check.
    and one more thing i wanted to tell u....
    i guess the problem started because of some changes that i did unknowingly in the settings of default login module stacks...
    actually i was trying to explore visual admin tool's usage..and in that process i unknowingly changed the values of the default login module stacks provided by EP..
    after that only the problem arose..
    can u tell me how to restore the default settings for the login module stacks (j2ee engine,basic,client_cert,form,
    digest,ticket,evaluation_assertion_ticket) so that the application starts working properly again
    thanks in advance

  • Heat while logged out

    Hello, I have a Macbook Pro, 2.5GHZ. I have the automatic log out option. When I return to the computer the next day, it is very hot but still logged out. If it is logged out, there shouldn´t be any programs running. Any way to get it cool again???
    thanks

    My fault, the energy preferences were set to better performance, that´s why it didn´t go to sleep. All ok now.

  • Log out of computer -- logs out of Internet connection also?

    I would like to Log out of my account for a minute, to log in again, making a GUI system enhancement work from something I did with ShapeShifter. I never log out; I always shut down the computer when I'm done with it. So the internet is always working properly when I turn the computer back on. If I log out, does the Internet connection/IP reset? Or do anything else where I would need to log in some foreign way? (foreign as in, not my regular name and password log in).
    The way I need to Log out

    I ask because if I need to log in some foreign way, I don't remember any of those kind of log in details, or Internet activation procedures. And I can't phone my Internet Service Provider at the moment to ask for help.
    Thx.

  • Log out in iMessage, log out in iMessage

    I would like to log out in iMessage and use another Apple ID to log in again

    Hi,
    Actually open the Messages app.
    Go to Preferences > Accounts.
    Select the iMessages account
    Use the Sign Out Button.
    I prefer Quitting then Restarting the app.
    Go to the iMessages account again and click the Details button if the Apple ID minus the password is not showing.
    Add the new ID in either case.
    There is no iMessages account setting in Internet Accounts
    Even if you use an iCloud ID (It does not have to be) then there is also no setting for Messages there either.

    Hi Stacey,
    when you have this in OSX, then have a look at the Universal Access Preferences in the System Preferences.
    Make sure that these are turned off.

    Hi,
    can you try this piece of code
                    FacesContext facesCtx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
                    ExternalContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
                    String viewId = "Logout.jspx";
                    ControllerContext controllerCtx = null;
                    controllerCtx = ControllerContext.getInstance();
                    String activityURL = controllerCtx.getGlobalViewActivityURL(viewId);
                    System.out.println(":::: Current Activity URL ::" + activityURL);
                    try {
                        session.invalidate();
                        ctx.redirect(activityURL);
                    } catch (IOException e) {
                        log.error("error in trying to redirect to login page  " + e);
                        e.printStackTrace();

  • My iChat account on Messages stays logged out Mountain Lion

    Since I upgraded to Messages Beta while on Lion, my iChat account has randomly logged out constantly while in use...
    The only way I could fix this was by restarting my computer, but eventually it would log out, and stay logged out, again.
    Now having upgraded to Mountain Lion, and today updating to 10.8.1 (hoping it would fix the issue), nothing has helped.
    In Mountain Lion, my Messages now logs out within 5 minutes of being logged in, and stays logged out.
    I've tried fixing the port on the account, using/not using SSL, trying with/without using proxy, etc...
    I'm not a pro with using these complicated internet thingys, but I just want my iChat to work (in Messages!!!!).
    PLEASE HELP ME
