TURNING ON GENIUS SIDEBAR

I updated my Itunes to version 10 and when I went to view the genius sidebar all I get is the ping sidebar; when I click the genius button and the button next to it the ping sidebar goes away and comes back and the genius button keeps making up playlists. How do I get the genius sidebar? It disappeared when I updated to version 10 ??

Well; that certainly was a dumb, dumb idea they had.
I purchased a lot of music simply because the genius sidebar led me to music I hadn't heard in years. They must be trying to push this ping garbage and they didn't have the space on the page to do it; so they removed a money maker option in order to put on a feature that is really useless and makes Itunes more like a social club rather than a place to find good music; music you may not find elsewhere; and be able to buy it; download it and enjoy. I found hundreds of songs that I might not find elsewhere. I'm a big old time disco buff and I also downloaded a bunch of old 50 and 60 tunes. Stupid idea; they should have polled the customers first before removing it.
Well; thanks for the information; I did email customer service and it takes 48 hours to get a response; I got mine in record time.

  • Can't Turn On Genius Sidebar

I recently got a new computer and itunes works and all except for the genius sidebar. Whenever I try to turn it on and log in I've been getting "Request Temporarily Unavailable, Please Try Again Later" However I keep getting this same message everytime I have tried to log in for the past 3 weeks.
    Any ideas?

"Your request is temporarily unable to be processed. Please try again later." I've been getting this message yesterday and today. I'm on iTunes 10 on a new iMac.
    Genius is broken!

  • I turned on Genius, but my iPod is telling me it needs to be turned on

I turned on Genius about a week ago, it has been working on my iPad since. However, when I used my Nano 5, it said I needed to turn it on. I've synced it to iTunes twice, updated genius, turned genius off then back on, and it still says it. Any ideas what the problem could be?

There is the Genius feature in iTunes.  On your iPod, it has Genius Mixes.
You need to turn ON Genius in iTunes, as you have done already.  Then, in iTunes, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Music tab.  If you are not syncing your entire music library to your iPod, look under Playlists.  Check Genius Mixes, and at least one "mix" indented below.
When you sync, the selected mixes should be available when you select Genius Mixes on the iPod.

  • How do I turn off Genius permanently?

I'm using the latest iTunes and iOS 5x on my iPad2 and iPhone 4S. How do I turn off Genius permanently? I don't want Apple to bother combing through my library and making music recommendations. I don't really care what they think I might like to listen to and it's creepy to me to think they monitor my library in order to update Genius. I searched on this topic and two years ago the solution was to go to Store / Turn Off Genius but that is not an option in the latest version of iTunes. Please don't tell me to turn off the Genius sidebar, I already did that. Thanks.

This is the most correct answer, thanks. So I turned off iTunes Match and I got a dialog saying deleting Genius results or something like that. And I get the option to Turn On Genius which of course I don't do. But if I then turn iTunes Match back on, there is no option to turn Genius off. There are only options to Turn Off iTunes Match, Update iTunes Match, or Update Genius. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if I now want to update iTunes match, today or in the future, Genius will update as well and I'll be right back where I started from. It seems as though using iTunes Match gives Apple license to deliver Genius results as well, without an opportunity to opt out.
This bugs me because even though I know by using iTunes Match Apple knows what's in my library (I bought the vast majority on iTunes anyway), Genius knows what I've been playing and perhaps how I've rated those songs as well. I just don't think that's any of Apples business unless I approve in order to get recommendations from Genius.

  • Ping v Genius Sidebar

Like many others, I find Ping in its present form of no value. Fortunately, I read about Apple dumping the Genius sidebar before I installed iTunes 10.0.1, so I'm still on 10.0, with my Genius sidebar intact. I have now just gone to my iTunes account and turned off Ping and was informed that my Ping account will be deleted within 7 days - good! If I have no Ping account, does anyone know if the Genius sidebar will still be available in iTunes 10.0.1? I'd like to install it because of its professed security fixes, but I shall refrain if the Ping sidebar is still there, even if I no longer use Ping.

Whatever about the relative merits of Ping and Genius, a much more significant criticism of 10.0.1 to my mind is that rather than address the many bugs/problems/interface atrocities which iTunes 10 foisted on us, all we got was a reinforcement of this Ping rubbish. Priorities are utterly skew-ways, whether at the highest level of Apple management or within the iTunes Team.

  • Genius Sidebar

Does anyone know how to get rid of the Ping Sidebar and get back the Genius sidebar in iTunes 10? I just upgraded I can't seem to get rid of the learn more about ping sidebar after recently upgrading.
    Cheers

No official word if this is the case or not. There was nothing in the release notes saying that the genius sidebar was discontinued.
I for one am really unhappy at this its removal without any consultation or word from apple. I really missed the functionality of the genius sidebar which has led me to buy countless tracks and albums from the store.
restored 10.0 from time machine backup and turned off automatic updates. Now happy am certainly not upgrading until apple can tell me how i can get the genius sidebar back.

  • Genius sidebar question

So why is that the Genius sidebar (song suggestion thingy) only works with like 1/10 of my songs? At first I was excited about it, but it only seems to be able to make suggestions if the song came out in last 6 months. Even really well-known older songs don't have any suggestions.

Genius sidebar isn't working for me at all. (It opens, but just shows the atomic symbol logo.) I've tried:
    1. Only request suggestions for brand-new songs.
    2. Update Genius
    3. Turn off Genius; Quit iTunes; Reopen iTunes; Turn on Genius; Update Genius

  • ITunes crashes when closing Genius Sidebar

I upgraded to iTunes 8 without any problems it seemed. It took "Genius" forever to analyze my iTunes library but it all seemed to work. "Genius" can made recommendations.
The problem is when I try to exit the Genius Sidebar. ITunes crashes at that point. I have Windows Vista32. Any ideas for help?

Me too. How do I turn that off permanently. It *****. I work at Starbucks a lot and it's loading a bunch of Starbucks crap I don't want to listen to. Try going offline and rebooting itunes then setting your prefs. That seemed to work for me on the crashing prob.

  • Genius Sidebar. Hidden or Disabled?

    from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/features/
    *Genius Sidebar*
Turn on the Genius sidebar and discover new music, movies, and TV shows you’ll love. Select a song, movie, or show in your library, and the Genius sidebar shows you great recommendations from the iTunes Store. Preview and buy directly from the sidebar.
Backup copy if they edit the page: http://yfrog.com/6bsidebarbip
Since I don't want to use another USELESS social network as the useless Ping is, how can I re-enable the MORE HELPFUL GENIUS SIDEBAR that you still claim as available?
I don't want the PING sidebar, it's useless if you don't want to use your ugly useless social network.

  • How do I turn off the Genius app in App Store. I've gone to Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services then swiped Genius for apps 'off''. Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius.

How do I turn off the Genius app in App Store. I've gone to Settings/Privacy/Location Services/System Services then swiped Genius for apps 'off''. Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius. Still nothing has worked. I'm still stuck with Genius offering the same apps to me. Mind you, once I click on the App Store there is nothing I can do but swipe left and right. There's absolutely nothing at the bottom of the screen like a features tab, nothing. There is, however, a categories button at the top, but that's it. Irrelevant.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this.  I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether.  I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed.  For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.

  • Is there an easy way to turn off Genius in itunes 10.6.1?

I have Genius playlists on my ipad2 that I do not want. I would like to get rid of all Genius suggestions and have viewed many suggestions; one being to go to the store tab and click turn off genius. This option is not available it only gives the option 'Update Genius'. I recently joined itunes Match and this seems to automatically think that you want to have Genius. Can someone help me in gettng rid of Genius. Thanks in advance.

In reply to Peter2300's problem of not being able to delete Genius Playlists on the ipdad.  I had this same problem on my ipad2 and my son's ipad mini.  In both our cases we had a number of extra Genius Playlists and most of these had no songs in them.  We couldn't delete them the normal way by just holding down on them until the little X appeared.  We both solved it the same way. On my iPad when I "tap" on the Genius playlist I want to delete, it switches to the screen showing the individual songs in the Genius list (even if it's just a blank playlist), and there is a "save" button near the upper right of the screen. I pressed the Save button and then hit the button on the upper left to return to the list of Playlists.  After doing this, the last Genius Playlist displayed could then be deleted the normal way by pressing on it and waiting for the X.  I had to repeat this process for each extra Genius playlist I wanted to get rid of (which was all of them b/c on mine they were all blanks).  I just repeated the process of viewing each playlist, saving it, going back to the list of Playlists and then deleting the one that appeared last on the screen.  So far these Genious Playlists have not returned.  Hope this helps.

  • Airplay Icon missing from iTunes 11.0.2.26 (PC) and Genius Sidebar

After upgrading to iTunes 11.0.2.26 my Airplay icon is missing. I've tried the simple fix that reportedly works where you switch to mini player, see the Airplay icon and then it stays when you switch to normal mode.
Firstly the icon does appear but it is grayed out and only pops up a volume control. It does not detect, display, or allow you to select output devices, Second, it is still missing from the normal size window.
This has been tried with and without restarting iTunes as well as reinstalling iTunes. I'd go for a downgrade but then it fails to work with the new iPads at all. I discovered that with my first iPad mini where it required an iTunes upgrade.
    Genious Sidebar
I figured Id just downgrade to 10.6.3 to get the genius sidebar back afterwards. WRONG, it will not synch or do anything without the newer versions of the iTunes software. Genius sidebar was the best thing about the software and they kept taking it away, brought it back for a few versions, then took it away again. It was and remains my favorite way to shop for new music. The remaining so called genius functions are just plain lame.
Airplay Icon Missing from Itunes on PC
I can hit my Airplay devices such as Apple TV and Zeppelin Air with iPads, iPods, and iPhones. Just not from the PC Console where is previously enjoyed it the most. So I know the devices are fine. They are all on the same physical wired and wireless network. Even when I put the Zeppelin on the wired LAN there is no Airplay icon in iTunes on the PC.

Hi. just want to tell you i had the same problem Ipad--->tv working ok iphone---->tv also working ok pc home sharing not working and airplay icon in itunes 11.0.2.26 is missing. iam running windows 7 64bit

  • How can I turn off genius in iTunes 10.5.3 (3)

How can I turn off Genius in iTunes 10.5.3  under Lion 10.7.3 (other than disconnecting from the internet). It is no longer an option in the Store menu and although I can hide that playlist on the left through parental controls, the atom symbol is still present in the lower right of the window available to generate a list from a selected song. Thank you.

I have the option to turn it off. What version of iTunes are you using? I have the latest iTunes. Have you tried signing out of the store?
