Turning on icloud backup

I didn't use the icloud back up when I first turned on my iphone, is there a way to do it now?

If you don't see Storage & Backup in your iCloud settings, that usually indicates the phone was provided by your employer or you have added your employer's exchange email account to your phone and your employer has installed a profile on your phone preventing you from backing up to iCloud.  (You will see a "Profile" setting in Settings>General.)  You would have to confirm this with your employer's IT department to be sure.

  • Cannot turn on icloud backup after downgrade to iOS 7.1.2

I own an iPhone 4S which I upgraded to iOS 8 on 21st September. The iphone and most of applications (even phone) crashed all the time so I decide to downgrade to 7.1.2 after following instructions found in these communities. I did it just yesterday.
Now I cannot turn on iCloud Backup to my iPhone. The iCloud drive of course disappeared from Settings > iCloud, however it's still visible when I access the iCould in web. Moreover in iCloud web interface my iPhone appears as running iOS 8 and X Yosemite which is not true. My iPhone has 7.1.2 iOS.
I tried to erase my iPhone and restore it from a backup I made yesterday but I have the same issue: iCloud could not be enabled. It was enabled finally after hard reset but when I select "Backup now" the app crashes and throw me in the Home Screen. I see a message: this iPhone has never been backed up on iCloud and the last backup could not be completed.
Please help!!!!!! I want to be able to have iCloud Backup (most important settings and contacts, sms etc.) as I did usually before upgrading to iOS 8 and downgraded to 7.1.2.

    Hello,
Been experiencing the same problem, finally fix it by deleting your old iCloud backup from iOS 8.
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Click on your device name > Scroll down to bottom > Delete this backup.
Then try to turn on the iCloud Backup setting toggle again.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

how can i recover my photos if i restored my phone but turned off icloud backup?

Do you have any backup at all for your device? If you do, then you can restore from that backup and get any photos that were on it. If you have imported your photos to your computer, you can sync them back to your device via an iTunes sync. If you had Photo Stream turned on, you can recover your Photo Stream for the last 30 days or 1000 photos on that Photo Stream (whichever comes first) by signing onto the iCloud account that the Photo Stream was turned on for.

  • Can I turn off iCloud backup and keep my old backup?

Basically I am sick of being asked for money for more storage space. I cannot seem to get my iPhone backup under the 5gb free space, so the only option I see is to turn off iCloud backup. Can I do this without deleting the old (original) backup?

No.  When you turn it off it removes your existing backup.  You'll have to back up to your computer using iTunes (after turning off iCloud backup it will automatically back up when you sync).

  • I can't turn on iCloud backup on one of my phones after updating to ios7 - help!

Updated both iPhone 4S to iOS 7, I can get the iCloud backup for one phone, but I don't have the option to turn it on on my other phone. I have reset, uninstalled, reinstalled, signed in/out, I can't figure out what to do. I've had no other problems, is not a storage issue, as we had previously purchased more storage and it still shows that we have a huge amount left. I appreciate any help, thanks!

Are you saying that the setting to turn on iCloud backup is missing?

  • Do I need to turn on iCloud backup for auto sharing between my iPad and iPhone, example photos, reminder, notes, contacts, etc

When I turn off iCloud backup then I think my iPad, and iPhone stop sharing contacts and reminder phone stream etc, so do I need iCloud backup to be turned on

No. Backing up to iCloud is entirely separate from syncing data with iCloud to your other devices.  Backing up to iCoud is entirely optional and turning it off shouldn't effect your iCloud syncing in any way.

When you switch to iTunes backups, the device will start to make any further backups to iTunes on your computer. It will only do this when it is connected to iTunes and a power source. (If it is set to sync/backup wirelessly, it will only do so when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network)
When you switch back to iCloud backups, it will basically resume where it left off and start to back up once again to iCloud. There is no moving of backup files between iTunes and the cloud when you switch between backup options.

  • When I turned on iCloud backup now when I synch to iTunes it asks if I want to set up as new phone or restore from backup. Why?  I have been synching this iPhone to this computer fine since I got my iPhone 4S.

    1. set up as new
    2. transfer you wife's purchases.
    3. Just in case create one computer back up manually.
    Enjoy.

  • Does turning off iCloud backup affect my photostream, contacts, and calendar wireless syncing?

I keep getting the announcement that my icloud storage is almost full, so I checked into managing my storage. If I turn off the "Storage and Backup" on the bottom, will that affect my contacts, calendars, reminders, and photostream wireless syncing? I don't want to pay to get more icloud storage.

No, that just means it will no longer backup your device to iCloud.
More than likely it's the amount of photos and videos in your camera roll taking up all that space, hence why your storage is almost full. You can manually backup these photos and videos to your computer and then turn off the backup for just the camera roll (you'll see this option under Settings, iCloud, Storage & Backup, "This iPhone" or device you have, and then you can toggle Camera Roll on/off, where it also tells you how big the camera roll is) and still continue to backup the rest of the device (Settings, apps, wallpaper, etc) to iCloud. Or just turn the whole option off and backup to iTunes instead.

  • Can't turn on iCloud Backup

I logged back in but cannot find my previous question on the problem.
My internet is working fine but when I turn on iCloud I get the message "iCloud Backup Failed"

Demo, good to hear it all worked for you.  I was suspicious of all the problems people were having, in spite of all the months of testing Apple went through with iOS5.  It had to be something other than the software itself, and it was:  Server overload and user error.
From reading Apple's website and all the tales of woe, seems to me that if you have more than one Apple device, the iOS 5 upgrade is only one piece of the puzzle.  In order for iCloud to work, you have to upgrade not only your iDevice software, but your PC/Mac software as well, and it has to be done in a specific order if all is to go smoothly.  The PC/Mac software should be upgraded first (iTunes 10.5), then the iOS devices.  The very last thing to do is turn on iCloud.
I've always been cautious about installing major updates like this one.  I generally wait a few days to see if there are real problems or not, and how they are resolved.  I won't be upgrading my iPad2 to iOS 5 until the weekend.  Hopefully the high server load will have subsided by then.

  • Does turning off iCloud backup delete backup

I am thinking of making a monthly backup of my devices in iCloud as I still prefer (sorry) to use iTunes on my PC. The idea is to have the previous  months backup available in iCloud should any problem occur.
If I backup to iCloud and then revert to backing up using itunes on my PC between iCloud backups does this delete the iCloud backup after a certain time period?
    Thanks

    Hello antdude,
turning off iCloud  wouldn't affect any of your locally stored documents. Just turn the feature off by opening System Preferences > iCloud.
Oh OK. The message was confusing me: http://i.imgur.com/kZOu5zr.png ... It sounded like disabling iCloud would delete my Mac's local copies.

  • Effect of turning off  iCloud Backup

I'm preparing to update to iOS 7 on iPhone. I'm backed up on iCloud. When I turn iCloud Backup OFF (at Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > [Backup] iCloud Backup) am I correct in assuming that only disconnects my device from iCloud? In other words, it doesn't delete or otherwise alter the backup data maintained in my iCloud account for that device?

It does not disconnect your device from iCloud. It simply means it will not back up to iCloud. Anything turned on in the iCloud settings (Settings > iCloud) will all continue to sync.

  • Hi, I have a problem about ICloud backup, I can not turn on ICloud backup in my iphone5c (7.1.2) do you know anything about it. Thanks

    There are two possible case
First I upgraded to IOS 8 2 weeks ago and then downgrade again
Or I upgrade 7.1.2 now maybe that is why I can not make iCloud backup.

It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Turn on iCloud backup

My iPhone 5S is plugged in and WiFi is on but i Cloud backup is turned off. The option is grayed out. How do I turn it on ?

Make sure that airplane mode is off (Settings > Airplane Mode) because you must have a wi-Fi connection to start your backup.
Make sure that is connected to Wi-Fi.
if “Restrictions” turned on in Settings > General > Restrictions; tap  Settings > General > Restrictions > Accounts and set this to Allow Changes.
Reset the network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings).
Make sure that you have enough memory left on your phone. Tap Settings > General > About > Available, and make sure that you have at least 50MB’s available.

  • TS3992 Altho' my 4S iPhone is connected to Wi-fi & I have a correct Apple/icloud ID and password, I keep getting the message "icloud backup Failed. Turn off airplane mode, or use Wi-Fi to enable iCloud backup." Should I delete my account, setting up a new

I cannot activate my iCloud backup of my 4S iPhone, even though I have definitely deactivated Airplane mode, and am connected to Wi-Fi.  I also have a correct Apple/iCloud ID and password.
Should I delete my iCloud account and set up a new one??
Please give me some assistance with this problem!
    Sincerely, Brianrit

To unfreeze it, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
To troubleshoot your problem with backing up to iCloud, this may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
