Turning on the cooling fan

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to cause the cooling fan to turn full on?
I would like to test mine.
Terry Baird

Allan,
Intermittently, I have the same prob with an Intel duo iMac purchased in 2008.
Every now and then on start up the fan comes on immediately and does not shut down until I SHUTDOWN the computer, turn off the mains for some 20 secs and boot up again. Then the fan does not come on. I can use this machine for hours and the fan never comes on.
Looked at the advised reset page and after some minutes got an error message: Error: 504 OK
Strange.

  • Satellite A30-514 is very slow, and how to service the cooling fan

My notebook has become very slow now. Power on need to use F1 to boot and this too is absolutely slow process. My machine has 512 MB RAM but shows only 480 MB on control panel. Does anyone think it is a RAM failure that has made the machine slow or something else. I have tried maintenance but did not help.
Also has any one got the details how you could open the unit up to service the cooling fan since the machine heats up a lot and need to service it.
    thanks
    Janak

    Hi Janak,
Ok, lets break this answer down to two parts which hopefully will help:
    1. The reason that Control Panel shows only 480MB when you have 512MB installed is because your laptop uses what is called "shared graphics", which means that the RAM used for the graphics card (which is actually built into the mainboard) is taken from the overall RAM. A quick calculation shows that you have a 32MB grpahics card: 480MB + 32MB = 512MB, so I wouldn't go out and replace the memory just yet!
2.There are several tools which can be found under Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools. These include Defrag and Disk Cleanup. Running through these (I would recommend Disk Cleanup before Defrag) may help clear some clutter from your hard drive and tidy things up a little. This is turn may give you back a little performance.
If none of this seems to make any difference, it may be that your hard drive is nearng the end of its life, or it may be that there is not much free space on it, both of which can cause a system to run slower than normal.
I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

  • The cooling fan is not operating correctly

I dont know why, suddenly when i turn on my hp notebook there is allert that the cooling fan is not operating correctly, aand system gives suggest to shut down.
What shoul i do to fix this?
    Thank you

    Hi,
You can try the steps from this link below and check if it helps. Moreover after that error comes up if you immediately hit enter the computer will load to windows. Once in Windows you can download the latest BIOS update as that from HP Support and Drivers and install it.

If problem continues then you may have to get the fan replaced. If the computer is still under warranty then you can call HP Tech Support for repair.
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan the laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx.

What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan in a
laptop computer ? (In India in Indian Rupees)?
The laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx. The cost means
    fan cost plus labour charges.

    Hi,
You should know this better than us. Normally part is around $40 (more or less) and labour can be $50 to $200. I would charge this for $400 (minimum) or free.

  • Is it wrong to turn off the option ( fan always on )

    my notebook is dv6-1235
is it wrong to turn off the option ( fan always on ) from the bios..... because iam afraid that it will hurt the cpu or the graphic card as they become so hot somtimes ....

you can turn the setting off...there is still a failsafe to kick the fan on if the system gets way too hot

  • The cooling fan is strangely noisy

Hi, I'm using dv6-6023tx laptop for 1 year. Its cooling fan was ok since when i purchased it, but it suddenly became so noisy with annoying spinning sounds from the last few days. I don't know why it happened. I didn't touch or change any hardware and software conditions, I was just using it as normal. I guess it happened because of dust or something like that but I'm not sure.
    What should I do?

first step is to clean it with a can of compressed air by blowing it out in reverse of flow direction. holding fan blade still with a metal pin or similar through grill vents is good idea.
After cleaning check fan is running & air flow seems good.
If fan noise still noisy is it due to worn bearing (more mechanical noise) or because fan running faster & longer due to notebook actually being hotter.
It is posible you have processes stressing the computer & it is actually running hot & the fan is just working hard.
Review all processes & CPU use & also monitor actual temps with software like HWinfo

    Hi,
Is it a desktop? You don't have to buy a cooling fan from HP. Any fan what fits in can be used on a desktop. Have a look what size (such as 80x25mm) you need and search ebay for a good fan.

  • HP 255 given problem after changing the cooling fan.

Please help, this is urgent. I changed my HP 255 cooling fan after it stopped working. when i finished replacing it with new one, i coupled back my computer and put it on. it came up with a message that the selected boot image is invalid, after series of troubleshooting by going online, i was able to eradicate the message. But am always stuck at a message that said recovery, your pc needs to be repaired. an unexpected error has occured. error code:0xc0000185. i tried repairing the operating system but there was no success. i was able to the a system recovery using HP recovery manager, the recovery was successful, but when i reboot pc after completion of recovery, it still returned me back to the message that my pc needs to be repaired. I cant even boot from the cd because i feel like downgrading it to Windows 7. Please help me, the computer is urgently need to complete my project work.
    thanks

Hi - firstly, did you use any sort of ESD protection whilst working on the machine?  This should be a priority due to the sensitivity of the devices on the motherboard.
Before suspecting the worst, I would make some basic checks on the hard drive.  Firstly, double check it has been firmly pushed back on to the connector (I know, you have probably done this already!)
Restart your computer - when it goes through the repair process, it will offer you advanced tools - click on this.
Select Command Line (CMD) - this will give you a black window with white text.  Type the following then hit the enter key -
         chkdsk /r
This will take what seems like forever but let it do its thing - hopefully you just have some damaged sectors, this will find and "repair" them (actually moves the data to a better part of the disc and marks the bad sectors so they don't get used in future).  Sometimes this is enough to get things working again.  When it has finished, you might want to check the system files, if not, simply restart the machine but if you do, type the following into the command line -
    sfc /scannow
Again this will take some time but it will find most problems with system files and replace them, however it isn't infallible.
Let me know how it goes....

What L-50A.  there is a sticker on the bottom that shows the full model number.  Please provide.
You posted several times?  In case your not aware, this forum is manned by users like you who donate their time trying to help each other.  We're not paid and don't work for Toshiba, so posting once is sufficient.  You should have the Toshiba crap ware called Health Monitor which shows the current temp of cpu as well as the % fan.  See if you can locate it on yours and post back what your values are for idle and under stress.

  • Agitation by the System built-in cooling fan

Please would you tell me what is wrong with my cooling fan, which suppose to kick on ONLY if system becomes hot or reaches certain temperature. However, my system cooling fan turns itself on whenever I watch online news video broadcast/clips on you tube, apple's movie trailers or doing video conference, even if I just power it on. weird as it is, would only under those activities listed above trigger the Cooling Fan. I would like to know if there's any system adjustment to change setting of that, and what causes the fan to turn on? could it be malfunction? Why only under those activities will the fan turn itself on but not others?
I just reformat it recently, so everything should be neat and smooth. But Gee...when it's on, it's going nonstop and full force until the seconds I quit from those activities!
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.
    Sincerely,

I think you are seeing normal behavior. My 1G PowerBook with Tiger will also speed up the fans when temps get to about 140F/60C and that's usually when watching videos. If you don't a "thermometer" program, get the iStat Pro widget here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
It will report temps as well as fas speed so you know what's going on.
Why only under those activities will the fan turn itself on but not others?
I'm not a hardware expert but I know that the video codecs are part of a decoding procedure that involves the main processor and the graphics processor unit (GPU) in the video circuitry. Both make more heat when they work harder, just like the human body. 2D activities like word processing, mail programs and surfing don't take as many system resources.
I believe the fans run all the time, but the base speed is low enough to be nearly silent. I can't hear mine until they speed up when doing videos and the like. I can hear the speed gradually increase speed, and then gradually decrease back to their "silent" mode once I quit programs that use a lot of resources.
I also have a MacBook Pro and, like the PowerBook, its fans start to spin up when I watch videos.

  • The internal cooling fan(s) on my MacBookPro have quit running.   Possible reasons why?

the cooling fan(s) on my MacBookPro have quit running.  Looking for answers to this problem

Now that I think about it, I wouldn't even try inserting a disc or even using it.  Without fans you could very well fry things on your mac (as Allan Eckert said) that might end up costing you more.  Turn your mac off and don't use it again until it gets looked at.

  • On my Satellite P100-347 cooling fan runs all the time

    Hi,
I think I might have a problem with fan on my Satellite P100-347. It seems to be continually working at all times and is a lot louder than when I purchased the computer. Initially it used to just switch off and on when required, I think this might now be wrong.
    Please help.

    Hi Beata
I agree with Sanremo suggestions; its not known to me how old your notebook is but from time to time its necessary to clean the cooling fans. The dust and debris inside the notebook could prevent the cooling modules from properly working!
The properly fresh air circulation is also very important. Be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook. Do not use the notebook on the knees or in the bed. In such case the notebook cannot be cooled in the right way and the high temperature can damage some parts like GPU on the board.
But if you think there is an serious hardware problem you should contact the authorized service provider in your country.
Good luck and greetings to Poland ;)
