Turning on 'write xmp files' in LR 5.4 changed the modified date on my old raw and jpg files. Can i stop this?

On the advice of an article saying XMP sidecar files are a safer alternative to relying only on the catalog, I recently (June 16, 2014) turned on write XMP files. Now all my JPG and raw files have the same modified date of June 16, 2014, making it impossible to know which are the most recent files, etc.
Is it possible to change this behavior to only create these files for new images - or to stop this behavior?
I'm reverting to a backup of all my files and turning this option o ff for now.

I assume your raws are in DNG format? If xmp is in sidecar, it won't change raw file date.
Anyway, saving xmp does not change any dates in Lightroom, so you should still be able to sort by edit time or capture time...
But if you want control, you have to save manually instead of automatically.
Two things that might help:
1. Filter based on metadata status.

*.eml Time Stamp - Select File in Windows Explorer Changes the Modified Date

The Windows Live Mail *.eml files time stamp is getting changed to the current date when the file is selected in the Windows Explorer! I save backup copies of important E-mails to folders on the Hard Drive and then synchronize them with the same folders on other LAN Hard Drives for backup archives. When these E-mail files are selected or opened from the Windows Explorer in the Windows 7 OPS the Modified Date Time Stamp is changed to the current date automatically! This action creates a real problem when doing later synchronizations of all of the folders! The date will not be the original date of the E-mail and the original file will be over copied with the file with the newest date stamp. I stopped Indexing on the *.eml files and that stopped the time stamp change when overcopy synchronization, but if the file is selected during a viewing in Windows Explorer then the Time Stamp is updated to the current date again! The Date and Timestamp changing issue in Windows 7 has a two part fix!
1. Disable the Indexing of the *.eml file type in the Indexing Options located by Clicking on "Control Panel" - "Indexing Options" - Advanced Button - File Types Tab - scroll down to the .eml file type and uncheck the Box then click OK to finish, so
that the Email type of files won't be Indexed.
2. Delete the Registry Entry listed below, be sure to Export and Save the original Key so it could be Restored if something goes wrong! \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers
and Delete the .eml entry

Write XMP Files

I need to write xmp files. These files will I then be imported in other applications like PhaseOne's Media Pro. The rest of my application is writen in C# so I need something that works with C#. Are there any libraries to do this? Ideally, there is some xmp object that can be serialized.

The only way that I could get Lightroom to write the xmp files for these specific files was to make a change to all of them AND I had to turn on Automatically write changes to xmp files in the catalog preferences section. If this option was not set, even after making a change to the files, Lightroom would not create the xmp files.
So I finally got the program to create the xmp files, I just can't understand what's different about these 93 files that insisted on having xmp writes turned on globally before any xmp files could be created. I turned off this global setting after creating the needed files.
The whole purpose of this exercise was to change the Lense Description to a Sigma 10-20mm F4 from a Tamron lense. I found a shareware program that allowed me to select a directory of files and make a global edit to all 93 xmp files at once. I then read the XMP files back into Lightroom and everything is right with the world.
Is the option of NOT changing the lense designation within Lightroom a XMP limitation or is this a design decision of the LR engineering team? It sure would be nice to have the option to PAINT the changes (in this case lense description) from one image to the rest of the group, if one chose to do this.

Is there a way to change the Digitised Date for Mov files in Lightroom?

I am scanning some old photos. Unfortunately Programs such as Dropbox and OneDrive display Mov files by their digitised Date.
Consequently, My scanned photos are shown by the date that I scanned them. I can not seem to find anyway in LightRoom to change the Digitised Date so that they are shown on OneDrive/Dropbox in the correct order on my iPad.
Any help would be appreciated.

Your subject line says "Mov files" (which are video files), but your message talks about scanning old photos. I'll address the old photos issue.
Because there are so many dates/times associated with photos, and because every program feels free to use its own names, it's critical to be pedantically precise about terminology. The date/time a photo was originally taken (when the shutter was pressed) is called Date/Time Original or Capture Date. The date/time a photo was transferred to digital media is called Date/Time Digitized (when the analog file was scanned or when the digital-camera shutter was pressed).
A good rule of hygiene is to ensure every photo has a Date/Time Original (capture date). Typically only digital archivists care about maintaining Date/Time Digitized. If you ensure that every photo has a Date/Time Original, then pretty much any modern app and Web site will order your photos correctly.
In LR, you set Date/Time Original using the Metadata > Edit Capture Time command. By default, LR won't write the capture time back to the file's metadata, so depending on how you are transferring photos to other programs, the capture time won't necessarily get transferred. So you either need to do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, or better, set the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
Unfortunately, LR's Edit Capture Time isn't very flexible with dealing with scanned photos in which the precise date/time is not known. So some people like to set an entire batch to, say, 1963/10/01 00:00:00, while others like to have each photo set in increasing increments of 1 second, so that programs will at least maintain the known relative ordering (which comes from the film or slide ordering). To do that, you'll need a third-party plugin, e.g. ExifMeta or CaptureTime To EXIF.

Bridge CS5 is Corrupting Raw and JPG Files Right Before My Eyes

I am using Bridge CS5 on a Mac to work on Raw files from a Canon camera. The files all looked good in the cameras review, and looked good when downloaded to the computer then the files started to corrupt and become unusable one at a time as I watched. They became all white or lines of color. Not all of them corrupted yhough (about 225 of 1100 did though). I eventually worked the uncorrupted files and even turned them into JPGs and sent them out. The next day I pull up the pics in bridge to see if they are still bad. All of a sudden files I opened and worked on yesterday started to corrupt one after another. Both the JPG and Raw files are corrupt and unusable even though they worked yesterday. It only happens when in Bridge. What is going on? This is riduculous.

Thanks for responding. What happens is I highlight a large group of files then click on open with Bridge or in Bridge I go to the subdirectory with the files. All the files are in a filmstrip on the left side of the screen. All of a sudden the file that I am viewing becomes corrupt (that is it turns into multiple horizontal lines of colors. Then I can watch as it happens to one file after another. I would compare it to when you quickly view film strips that were just uploaded and the initial thumbnail is blurry and then slowly all the thumbnails get clear as they process. But here they appear to already be fine thumbnails but then turn into the files with horizontal lines or sometimes just 30% or so so of the pic is visible and the rest is white or gray. When I try to open it the file cannot be opened because it is corrupt. It happens to both the RAW and the JPG file (I shoot in Raw+JPG). The first day it happened to about 200 of the 1200 files. So I was able to process the 1000 good ones in Raw convertor and create JPGs with no trouble. The next day I open all the files in Bridge again to see if the bad ones are good now and files I had already opened and were perfectly fine in RAW converter start to corrupt one after another like the ones did the day before. So I doubt it is the card or hardware it only happens in Bridge. Bridge must have the capability to do something to the files. It isnt making XMF files so thats not it, it is actually corrupting the RAW and JPG files. Have you ever heard of that. But this happened to Windows and I use MAC.....but I do use a 7D like them. I still wonder if Bridge just doesnt work well with Canon 7Ds or something like that. The above thread never found a solution. Maybe someone from Adobe has heard of this from others and discovered a reason or solution. Until then I cant trust Adobe products at all....which really sucks after how much it cost me, but whole shoots lost is worse, I guess.

You showed a kernel panic file from OS X, apprantly Log Me In is installed into OS X or running when you log in.
You should be using the developers installer/unistaller to remove Log Me In from OS X.
Somehow it's in OS X, I don't know, but it's there and you need to remove it. I'm not dealing with Windows, just OS X.
Talk to Log Me In people and find out what is installed where so you can do a manual deletion out of OS X.
If that doesn't work, you have to reboot holding the Shift key down manually search for any Log Me In or Himachi files on your computer, in your System/Library/Extensions folder too, use the free Easy Find.

IS BT CLOUD ALTERING THE "MODIFIED DATE" ON MY FIL...

I have BT Cloud 2GB Free running as both the downloaded "auto sync" software and also using the Chrome Browser Interface. I am on Windows XP.
I only use Cloud to backup word / excel documents and family photos - basic things I just dont want to risk losing.
I recently noticed something odd, when I sorted my BT Cloud View by "Date Modified" about twenty very 'old' files suddenly appeared at the top of the view - files I hadnt used in about 5 or 6 years.
I definitely had not accessed these files yet when I went to look at them in "My Computer" and clicked on "Properties" I could see that the "Modified Date" had changed. In fact it seems that about a dozen or so files had been "modified" over night while my PC was left on in the next room. No other dates had changed on the files - it did not look like they had been "Re-Saved" I dont think since the original author had not changed.
I started to monitor this and noticed about half a dozen files having their "modified dates" changed every day for the last three or four days. Its only Documents (Word Powerpoint Excel Text etc) that are being modified.
And heres the thing - I ran a search on my computer of files modified in the last week and the only ones where I could not explain the change were files that are being backed up by "BT CLOUD" so its slightly possible there is a link. Of course this could be coincidence but I thought this might be a good initial avenue to explore since without BT Cloud's interface view of my files I would never have even noticed the problem in the first place.
I'm pretty sure its not a Virus - I run my own Scanner every few days, its always up to date and I have Real Time Scanning enabled. I also ran a couple of online scans last night (Norton etc) and they found nothing.
Its a recent development because I use Cloud every week and would have noticed before if things were changing.
So a couple of questions really:
Firstly has anyone else experienced this problem - I read somewhere that Some Virus Scanners can alter the Modified Date on your files unintentionally but the MS hotfix says this only happens in Vista/Win 7 I think and I am on XP. Could it be that when BT Cloud Scans the file it affects its modified date on your PC ?
Secondly Could anyone else access my files in BT Cloud and modify them, and if so would that change to the 'online file' be represented back on my own PC when I "Synced" my backup

How can I preserve the modify date of the files I transfer from my local computer to the remote webserver?

How can I make sure the the modify date of files are not updated to the date the file was uploaded or downloaded.
There are multiple people working on my sites and I am the only one that uses Dreamweaver. The problem this presents is when one of my colleagues works on an image and I want to update my local computer it changes the date of the image to the date that I downloaded it and now when I compare what I have on my local computer to what is on the server they are different modify dates.

Here is the screen shot, just the top half, there are another 10 pages, but I guess this should enough for you to have an idea of waht is going on, bit small I am afraid. No, I don't have any apps setup to run when I open my computer, the kernel, varies between 290 and 305 per cent ish.
Would that PRAM thing help ? I think it may be the computer itself, well something inside, as this the first time that the fan has ever started running since I have this computer, even when I have 3 or 4 apps running.

Photoshop CC on Windows 7 is saving the file "date" as the created date not the modified date

I have been using a much older version of PS (CS2) and just decided to update to PS CC. I have installed the trial version of PS CC and will begin the CC subscription as soon as the trial expires.
I have noticed that PS CC saves the (main) date of the files as the "created date" not the "modified date" as it pertains to Windows Explorer and the Windows OS.
Here is what is happening: I have a file that I created in 2007 that I use for a template. It is sized to specific dimensions, etc. and when I do my save as, it automatically saves into the desired file folder, so that's why I use this as a template. I setup a new photo and then drag and drop it into my template, flatten the image and save as. When doing this with PS CS2, the date for the newly saved file was assigned as the modified date (current date and time). So, when I searched for the file in Windows Explorer or when I went to open the file, the date shown for the file was the modified date. NOW, with PS CC when I perform the exact same process and do a save as, the file date shown in Windows Explorer and/or when I go to open the file is showing as the created date (3/9/2007), the date that I created and saved the template I use. This is aggravating to me because now when I want to open a file and sort by date, the date shown in Windows Explorer is not accurate. As far as I can tell, this only happens in PS CC. When I open an old file with ID CC and do a save as, it applies the current date, not the created date. And, when I was using PS CS2, whenever I did a save as the current date was applied as well.
In summary, when performing a save as, the created date is being applied as the main date instead of the modified date. The question is: Is there a way to change this so that the modified date can be applied as the main date for the file when performing a save as?

Below are two files created the exact same way on the exact same computer: the top one was saved in PS CS2 and the bottom one was saved in PS CC. Both were saved using the "Save As" command. You will notice that when the "Save As" command was used in CS2 it updated the "Created:" date, however, in the CC version the "Created:" date was not updated, only the "Modified:" date was updated. Is there a way to update the "Created:" date when performing a "Save As" in PS CC?

I have indicated on the attached jpeg where the problem is, basically a line of text is missing at the top and part of the feeding diagram is missing. I created the artwork in different layer and then flattened. All text has been converted to outlines, however the areas being affected have no transparency, I have used solid fills or no fills. I get the same result when I export the file as a jpeg. Hope you can help.

The way I did it was I got the free app sync:stream from the App Store and then added my ipod to my ps3's Bluetooth devices. Then went to audio settings and set output and input to 'Skaggs iPod' you then open the app and it will be listed under music as a media service. You then go to all tracks and click copy (press triangle) it will then begin to copy all of your songs onto your ps3 via Bluetooth. I haven't tried but I assume the same can be done with photos. Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?

What do you mean by what audio/video formats are involved? These are all files from several digital cameras.
As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted.

I was able to drag and drop songs from iTunes in to Garage Band so I could slow them down to learn how to play them. Since the newest version of iTunes came out I no longer can. Is this a feature that I can turn back on?

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.
