Turning screen off while still performing gaming programming tasks.

G'day everyone,
I've got a slight issue.. I have a G15 keyboard that performs daily programming tasks in game each and every day. So the simulating of buttons doesn't allow my screen to go into sleep mode. This worries me as it could lead to my computer having a shorter lifespan. Just wondering if there is a manual way to put your computer to sleep but still have the keyboard perform it's duties that I have set it to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Me =)

  • IMac 7,1 turning internal screen off while watching a movie via output (second display), possible?

iMac 7,1 turning internal screen off while watching a movie via output (second display), is it possible with Lion?

Actually, Plex does the best job by placing a black background to the internal iMac screen it's called Blanking.
However that does not turn off the backlit which is very bright on the iMac 24" also the internal screen will draw more power that way.   As you probably know running bootcamp you can turn off the internal screen while watching a movie on the external.  This isn't a hardware limitation, I hope Lion has this feature.

  • Can i turn the Laptop screen off while connecting the TV?

    Dear All,
I am connecting my Mac to TV 32'' via mini display port converted to HDMI.
I am using it on MAC OS X 10.6.6, and on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 also.
when i am connecting my TV, the 2 screens are on, Laptop screen and TV screen.
Can i turn the Laptop screen off while connecting the TV?
how to do this on both operating systems?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Boudy,

The quick answer is, hook up the tv to the computer, close the lid, then wake the computer up by clicking the mouse while the lid is closed. Not sure if it'll work while running windows, but I'd bet it does if you have the mac drivers installed on the win os.

  • In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password.  How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password.  Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on.  Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again.  Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request.  How can I turn this off and still have protection?

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • Turn screen off?

why is there not an option under turn screen off to not automatically turn off? Shouldn't I have the option on my Touchpad for the screen to not turn itself off?
I use splashtop often to access my desktop so I can watch Netflix and I hate that after 10 minutes of watching the screen shuts off (unless I remember to touch it before the 10 minutes is up).
Should really be up to the Touchpad owner not HP.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

There is but I have been reading about a lot of people having troubles with their TouchPad if they have preware on it and install HPs Updates when they are available. So I decided to not go the Preware route. I was just hoping that HP would do something about it, but alas I think such a thing will not occur.

  • Is there a way to turn the new iMac screen off while running a song?

I know the key command is shift control eject-- and it works-- but only for a few seconds. Does anybody know how to turn the screen off so that it will stay off for any serious period of time?
I used to do this in my g5 by just turning the monitor off. great to trick to ensure that i'm listening to a mix w/ my ears--- not my eyes.
    thank you

Thank you for all the responses.
I've tried the black cloth. it's okay-- but i wind up have to attach something to the iMac--- and my clients are very sensitive to the things look here. i think it's petty-- but whatever. Also-- i have to constantly be taking it on/off as i make ajustments.
As far as turning around goes-- this is okay. I've tried it. the thing is-- your the way your ears receive sound-- is significantly different when you turn around. not drastically-- but again-- i'm talking about slight adjustments anyhow. any little difference can throw things off.
And the idea of a screen saver-- well-- here's the thing: when i'm trying to think only of music-- i don't even want to have to look at a computer screen. Imagine if you owned a nice pioneer 1970's stereo receiver and killer set of speakers. But everytime you were listening to it-- you had to look at a some sort of computer image. just not that pleasant.
comfort is pretty important to me at this point and that's kind of the whole goal. to still sit where i sit, look where i look, but not have to see a lit display on a computer screen.
i will try the hot corner thing.
thank you all for your responses.

  • My MacBook Pro just turned itself off while installing Windows 7. It has now got a black screen with a white flashing bar in the top left corner...what can I do?

I was just installing windows 7 onto my MacBook Pro. I selected to have 200GB for Windows and the rest leave for Mac.
I clicked install and the bar filled up as it should do. However, once the install had completed, my MacBook turned itself off. I assumed this was normal. Now, my MacBook has a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner.
What is wrong and what should I do?

Hold down the Option key when starting up then on the sceen that comes up select Mac OS X to boot from.
The Win 7 install didn't go well and is hung in some way. You should use boot camp assistant to remove the win partition and start over.
Make sure you are using a Retail version of Win 7. A Branded OEM version, like ones from Dell and HP, will NOT work to install Windows 7 on your Mac.

  • HDMI Sync Turns on/off While iPad 3rd/4th Gen is Sleeping

I am using some 3rd party hardware to monitor the sync output of an iPad's HDMI output using the 30-pin to HDMI adapter so when the iPad is asleep a TV shows one thing and when the iPad wakes up the TV will automatically switch to the iPad.
The first issue I had was that while the iPad is plugged in, the HDMI output never turns off.  While it would be EXTREMELY nice if the HDMI output did turn off while the iPad is plugged in, I was able to work around this with a mechanical 110VAC timer that charges the iPad at night and removes power during the day.
The problem I am now having is, while the iPad is asleep and not powered, the HDMI sync randomly turns on for a few seconds and then turns back off.  This provides some undesirable results because the TV will momentarily switch to a black screen and then back to the digital signage that it's supposed to show.
I've tried turning off all updates and push notifications and it still is happening.  I've also tried my iPad 4th gen thinking that the Lightning connector might make a difference and it still does the same thing.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

UPDATE:  It seems that turning the WiFi off fixes the problem.  Is there any chance an iOS update might include a feature to turn off the HDMI output when the iPad's screen turns off?

  • Turn tv off while using Appletv

I have Appletv connected via my reciever.  So no need to have my tv on the entire time i want to listen to music via Appletv.  So why does appletv disconnect or turn off when i turn off my tv?  Has nothing to do with it?  I don't want to use up my plasma just to view the screen saver for hours on end.

Almost seems like when I turn off my Plasma, the hdmi cable sends a signal to AppleTv to turn itself off.  While music is going through Receiver.

  • Main screen OFF, while External Screen ON

    Hi,
How can I turn my iMac's main screen completely OFF, when I'm watching a movie on my external 1080p TV, so the iMac won't dim annoyingly next to it?
please skip "cover with", "set background", "lower brightness", "turn iMac", "crackopen iMac" and "why do you get an iMac if.." answers,
I'd like the main screen absolutely OFF, while the stuff runs on the external screen..
there has to be a solution for this basic function in OSX, it's 4-5 clicks in Windows, but I'm an Apple newbie..
Thanks in advance for your answers!
    Steve

No you can not just turn off the iMac's display.
Everyone here in the Forum is a Mac user just like you, if you are annoyed or discontented please contact Apple > http://www.apple.com/contact/
There is a third party Utility called Shades that will independently dim either Display to black in Extended Desktop Mode. > http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/31515

  • How do I transfer from iphone 4 to 4s while still leaving gaming apps on the iphone 4?

I would like to transfer all everything from my iphone 4 to a 4s while still leaving the gaming apps on the orginial iphone 4.  My plan is to tranfer my phone number to the iphone 4s so that my son can use the iphone 4 as a gaming device only.

Do a backup of your 4, either to the cloud or your computer, depending on how you usually do this.
If you backed up your 4 to the computer, connect the new phone to the computer at this point, if you restored it to the cloud, do NOT connect it to the computer (or you might get an old backup by mistake). Just connect it to a charger.
When you first power up your new phone, it will ask you whether you want do configure it as a new phone or to restore it from a backup.  Select "from a backup".  The prodedure is slightly different for computer and iCloud backups, but you'll be able to figure it out.
This will restore all your apps, settings, and camera roll.  Then you can either sync it to the computer or redownload your music and movies (depending on how you manage these things).
Once this is done, you can delete everything you don't want from the old phone.

  • Is there a way to turn screen off manually?

Just wondering if there is a way or key to press to turn the display off. I have my imac screen set up to turn off after 10 minutes and would like to keep it that way but there are times when I would like to turn it off right away but keep the computer on of course. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Haunted,
Did you know you can use the Power Button to sleep your iMac. You need to activate this option in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options > make sure to select 'Allow Power Button to Sleep Computer'... this is about as close as you can get to sleeping your machine on demand...
Depending on your Energy Settings, your display and computer will go into sleep mode but will remain 'on', and you can do the usual to wake your iMac...

    @ceres
Don't use this application myself but not noticed such issue upon 700, have you tried installing http://store.ovi.com/content/165671 and run this in the background and see if it still happens.
