Turning string into Identifier

I want to create a jsp instanceof tag taht will take a string as an argument and turn it into tan identifier to test against. e.g.
String input = "java.lang.String";
// do somethinng to convert input to identifier object
boolean isInstance = anotherInputVariable instanceof new Identifier(input);
Is there a simple way to do this?
I also want to be able to cast the secondary input into the class represented by the identifier string.. e.g.
String g = (input) anotherInputVariable;
How would I do that as well?
Sorry if this is somewhat coherant... Im on a deathmarch coding project and my brain is awash.

I want to create a jsp instanceof tag taht will take a
string as an argument and turn it into tan identifier
to test against. e.g.
String input = "java.lang.String";
// do somethinng to convert input to identifier objectSomething like this?Class c = Class.forName(input);
boolean isInstance = anotherInputVariable instanceof new Identifier(input);You can't use the instanceof operator, but the Class class has methods that will do what you want - check the API. However, use of these techniques is usually a sign of a bad design.
Is there a simple way to do this?
I also want to be able to cast the secondary input
into the class represented by the identifier string..
e.g.
String g = (input) anotherInputVariable;
How would I do that as well?Impossible - there is no runtime type casting. And it wouldn't do you any good anyway, because at complie time (when you're writing your code) the only information you would have available is that it's an Object, so those are the only methods you could use.

  • "converting strings into integers in a array"

    I'm really left scrating my head trying to figure this out.
    What I have right now is this
    public class NameManager
         private names[] collection; // collection of names
         private int count;
         public NameManager() // Creating an array which for now is empty
              collection = new names[1000];
              count = 0;
              String [] collection = {"boston", "Springfield", "New Haven",
                        "New York", "Albany"};
    Its a namemanager for my road trip project which will be sort of like mapquest. What it does, or it's supposed to do is I have a array of names of cities, that represented as strings, in a array called, collection. What my proffeser wants me to do is turn the strings into integers, so in this elements in the array can be referenced .
    It's probably so easy that I'll want to kick myself when I find out how to do it , but for whatever reason , all the information have found on the internet seems to go right over
    If any body can give some idea of how to turn the string you see above into a set of intege s I would be so grateful.

    turn the string into the index in the array
    i.e.
    boston => 0
    springfield => 1
    New Haven => 2
    New York => 3
    Albany => 4I should've mention this before but I need the names to go along with the numbers.
    This is the directions from my proffesser, I know it's not the easiest to understand
    but hopefully It will give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.
    A name manager. This object turns strings into numbers. Every time a name is added to the name manager, it is checked to see if it has already been seen. If so, return the number previously assigned to the name. If not, increment the "number of known names" and return this number as well as remember the string for future reference. You can assume that there will be no more than 1000 names in the manager. Each name is a string.
    A city. A city is a simple object: the city has a name and a number (at present).
    I got most of this part done it just strings integers part that's getting me.

  • How do I turn a string into a mathematical expression?

    Hi,
    I'm creating a calculator program and I'm trying to take a mathematical expression from a JTextField, like 1 + 2, and turn it into an actual expression that will give me the answer. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, but as far as I know, you have to do it yourself. It just boils down to string parsing. I'd rather not give you too much advice for fear that it's a school project. Try it out and post any specific problems that you're having.
    Some minor advice... you'll find the String and StringTokenizer classes helpful, along with the java.math package.
    I did it by taking the string and converting it to chars and
    pushing all the chars on the stackYou deal with stacks but not the stack in Java. Anyways, why use a stack? How will you be able to deal with order of operations if you use a stack and pop them one at a time?

    KP106A         15432         {1234,4567,8910,1567}

    KP106A         15432         8910

    The strings will be of varying lengths but the layout will always be the same with the curley brackets and commas.

  • Issue with splitting string into multiple lines

    Hi Experts,
    I have a long string s. I want to split this string into several lines each having 72 characters. For this I have done following programming:
         String s = "For the first time it includes a supplementary report attempting to determine if extreme weather
    events can be linked to human-induced climate change. The research team, including members
    of the UK Met Office, identified recent episodes of extreme weather then used a computer to
    estimate the likelihood of the episode happening in a world without increased CO2." ;
         s = s.replaceAll("[\r\n]+", " ");
         char[] sAr = s.toCharArray();
         AbstractList RecepitsList7 = new Bapitrtext.Bapitrtext_List();;
         int start = 0; // start with
         int i = 72 ;
    //     for (int i = 71; i < sAr.length; i++) {
    while (i < sAr.length) {
    //     {     if (sAr[i] == ' ')
                   Bapitrtext Recepits7 = new Bapitrtext();
                   Recepits7.setTextid("TEXT");
                   Recepits7.setTextline(s.substring(start, i).replaceAll("[\r\n]+", ""));

    Here as we can see last characters are getting deleted by program. For example in first line
    determine 'r' is missing in extreme right.
    In 3rd line c is missing in extreme left (word change is needed. Program
    prints hange.
    Also in 3rd line extreme right 't' is missing
    Also in 4th line extreme right 'a' is missing
    Also the last line is not being printed. In last line "CO2." " should appear.
    There are two issues:
    1. Why last word of each sentence is not being printed?
    2. Why last sentence is not being printed?
    I am struggling since last 2 days. Please help. I made all changes like replacing 72 by 71 etc.
    By making such changes, I am able to print first line correctly. However under all cases
    last character of 2nd line onward is not getting displayed.
    Also last line is not getting displayed. I did every thing like using while instead of for loop etc.
    Kindly help.

  • Converting a binary string into a JPEG image in Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi Gang
    Iu2019m having problems converting a binary string into an image in Crystal Reports 2008
    I have JPEG images stored in ECC.  ECC stores the data in binary format.
    Iu2019m using the ECC function module SKWF_PHIO_CONTENT_ACCESS_GET to retrieve the data.  This function module has an export table, FILE_CONTENT_BINARY, which returns several lines of data.  Each line contains a maximum of 1,024 characters.
    When I drop the T_ FILE_CONTENT_BINARY.LINE field into my Crystal Report detail section, I wind up with a report that displays all the lines in FILE_CONTENT_BINARY table.  (in my case, 19 lines are displayed.)
    I created a formula to collect all the data into a single string.
    whileprintingrecords;
    stringvar data:= data & {SKWF_PHIO_CONTENT_ACCESS_GET.T_FILE_CONTENT_BINARY.LINE}
    I added the formula to the detail section and itu2019s doing a great job collecting the data.
    I then inserted a picture object in the report footer, opened the format editor, navigated to the u201Cpictureu201D tab, and inserted a formula for the u201Cgraphics locationu201D.
    whileprintingrecords;
    stringvar data:=data;
    data
    My clever idea turned out to be a disappointment . . . . my picture object is blank.
    Does anyone have a solution for converting a binary string into a JPEG image?

    Save the JPEG in a format CR supports. Refer to the help file for the file types.

  • Type HHMM and turn it into HH:MM in acrobat pro with NO SCRIPTING experience

    I am desperately trying to build a form that allows users to enter 24hr time as HHMM and Acrobat turns it into HH:MM format.
    I have absolutely no scripting experiencing so will need to be led through the process step by step.
    HUGELY grateful for any assistance.

    The simplest way of achieving it is to go to the field's Properties, Format tab and select Special and then Arbitrary Mask and enter this mask string:
    99:99
    Now, this will not validate that the time the user enters is a valid time (eg, they could enter "34:99" if they wish), but it's the best you can do without any scripts.

  • Use string as identifier in array?

    hi, is it possible to use String as identifier in arrays instead of numbers? if so, how do you do it?

    lol.. mmm.. well, i just discovered hashtables :D mmm.. i find hashname.put(object, object); to be too much.. so i wrote a adhoc method for walking through two arrays and putting them into hastables :D though, i had some errors:
    public Hashtable makeHash(int cap, String allString[], int allInt[])
         Hashtable hash = new Hashtable(cap);
         int i = 0;
         while(i < allString.length && i < allInt.length)
              hash.put(allString, new Integer(allInt[i]));
              i++;
         return hash;
    then i ran this method:
    String days[]=
              "Sun",
              "Mon",
              "Tue",
              "Wed",
              "Thu",
              "Fri",
              "Sat"
    int offset[] = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6};
    makeHash(7, days[], offset[]);in eclipse, there is a red mark under the comma right after days[] in the makeHash parameter... when i mouse over it, it gave me an "Syntax error on token ",","." expected".. anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

    my adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

    First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
    To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.

  • HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!! READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

    HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!! READING THIS COULD CHANGE
    YOUR LIFE!
    I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A
    little while back,
    I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and
    came across an
    article similar to this that said you could make thousands of
    dollars within
    weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought,
    Yeah right,
    this must be a scam,but like most of us, I was curious, so I
    kept reading.
    Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names
    and address
    stated in the article. You then place your own name and
    address in the
    bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least
    200 newsgroups.
    (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after
    thinking it over, and
    talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I
    figured: what
    have I got to lose except 6
    stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measly $6.00.
    Well GUESS
    WHAT!!...
    within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was
    shocked! I figured
    it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my
    first week, I
    made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a
    total of over
    $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's
    still growing.
    This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just
    over $42,000.00
    and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00,
    and 6 stamps,
    I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you
    how this works
    and most importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you
    print a copy of
    this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as
    you need it. I
    promise you
    that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will
    start making more
    money than you thought possible by doing something so easy!
    Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out
    or download
    it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
    in! It's easy.
    It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage)
    IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is
    not illegal; and
    it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the
    following
    instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary
    dividends.
    PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and
    $50,000 or more can
    be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful
    because of the
    honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue
    its success by
    carefully
    adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the
    Mail Order
    business. In this business your product is not solid and
    tangible, it's a
    service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists.
    Many large
    corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists.
    However, the
    money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income
    which is made
    from people like you and me asking to be included in that
    list. Here are the
    4 easy steps to success:
    STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the
    following on each piece
    of paper; PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now get 6 US
    $1.00 bills and
    place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill
    will not be seen
    through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one
    paper in each of
    the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed
    envelopes, each
    with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and
    address, and a
    $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS
    ABSOLUTELY
    LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are
    paying for it!
    Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried
    about the
    legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S.
    Post Office
    (1-800-725-2161) and they
    confirmed that it is indeed legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to
    the following
    addresses:
    Mailing Adresses
    Stephanie Hicks
    1283 Evening Canyon
    Henderson NV 89014
    Ross Wilson
    202 Belmont Dr.
    Thibodaux, LA 70301
    James Small
    4690 Sierra St.
    Riverside, CA 92504

    159 Main Street
    Dadeville, Alabama 36853
    A. Wyman
    9734 Landowne ct.
    Orlando, FL 32817
    STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above,
    move the other
    names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name
    as number 6 on
    the list.
    STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this
    article as close
    to
    original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at
    least 200
    newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All
    you need is 200,
    but remember, the more you post, the more money you make!
    This is perfectly
    legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302
    & 1341 of the
    Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself
    and, whenever
    you need money, you can use it again, and again.
    PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because
    of the honesty
    and integrity of the participants and by their carefully
    adhering to the
    directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the
    program will
    continue and the money that so many others have received will
    come your way.
    NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to
    you, either on a
    computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you.
    This VERIFIES that
    you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good
    idea to wrap
    the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.)
    So, as each
    post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six
    members will
    be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer
    with one dollar
    each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that
    when your name
    reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of
    dollars in
    CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of
    the first six
    people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the
    list and you're
    in business!

    200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low
    example). So then I
    made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the letter. Now, each of
    the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200
    postings, each
    with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the
    original 5,
    that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200
    MINIMUM posts with
    my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an
    additional
    $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the
    MINIMUM 200 with my
    name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an
    additional
    $626.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625
    persons post a
    MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and they each only
    receive 5 replies,
    that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those
    3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups
    with my name
    at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will
    receive
    $15,625,00!With an original investment of only $6.00!
    AMAZING! When your
    name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest
    posting in the
    newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list,
    putting your
    name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to
    remember is:
    do you realize that thousands of people all over the world
    are joining the
    internet and reading these articles
    everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00
    and see if it
    really works?? I think so... People have said, "e;what if the
    plan is played
    out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the
    chances of that
    happening when there are tons of new honest users and new
    honest people who
    are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are
    willing to give it
    a try?
    Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with
    thousands of
    those joining the actual internet.
    Remember: play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work.

    HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!! READING THIS COULD CHANGE
    YOUR LIFE!
    I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it. A
    little while back,
    I was browsing through newsgroups, just like you are now, and
    came across an
    article similar to this that said you could make thousands of
    dollars within
    weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00! So I thought,
    Yeah right,
    this must be a scam,but like most of us, I was curious, so I
    kept reading.
    Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names
    and address
    stated in the article. You then place your own name and
    address in the
    bottom of the list at #6, and post the article in at least
    200 newsgroups.
    (There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So after
    thinking it over, and
    talking to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I
    figured: what
    have I got to lose except 6
    stamps and $6.00, right? Then I invested the measly $6.00.
    Well GUESS
    WHAT!!...
    within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail! I was
    shocked! I figured
    it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in. In my
    first week, I
    made about $25.00. By the end of the second week I had made a
    total of over
    $1,000.00! In the third week I had over $10,000.00 and it's
    still growing.
    This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just
    over $42,000.00
    and it's still coming in rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00,
    and 6 stamps,
    I have spent more than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you
    how this works
    and most importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you
    print a copy of
    this article NOW, so you can get the information off of it as
    you need it. I
    promise you
    that if you follow the directions exactly, that you will
    start making more
    money than you thought possible by doing something so easy!
    Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out
    or download
    it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
    in! It's easy.
    It's legal. And, your investment is only $6.00 (Plus postage)
    IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not indecent; it is
    not illegal; and
    it is virtually no risk - it really works!!!! If all of the
    following
    instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary
    dividends.
    PLEASE NOTE: Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and
    $50,000 or more can
    be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful
    because of the
    honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue
    its success by
    carefully
    adhering to the instructions. You will now become part of the
    Mail Order
    business. In this business your product is not solid and
    tangible, it's a
    service. You are in the business of developing Mailing Lists.
    Many large
    corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality lists.
    However, the
    money made from the mailing lists is secondary to the income
    which is made
    from people like you and me asking to be included in that
    list. Here are the
    4 easy steps to success:
    STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write the
    following on each piece
    of paper; PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Now get 6 US
    $1.00 bills and
    place ONE inside EACH of the 6 pieces of paper so the bill
    will not be seen
    through the envelope (to prevent thievery). Next, place one
    paper in each of
    the 6 envelopes and seal them. You should now have 6 sealed
    envelopes, each
    with a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and
    address, and a
    $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS
    ABSOLUTELY
    LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are
    paying for it!
    Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a little worried
    about the
    legal aspects of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S.
    Post Office
    (1-800-725-2161) and they
    confirmed that it is indeed legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to
    the following
    addresses:
    Mailing Adresses
    Stephanie Hicks
    1283 Evening Canyon
    Henderson NV 89014
    Ross Wilson
    202 Belmont Dr.
    Thibodaux, LA 70301
    James Small
    4690 Sierra St.
    Riverside, CA 92504
    Thomas G.
    P.O. Box 591939
    Houston, TX 77259
    S. Parker
    159 Main Street
    Dadeville, Alabama 36853
    A. Wyman
    9734 Landowne ct.
    Orlando, FL 32817
    STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above,
    move the other
    names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc...) and add YOUR Name
    as number 6 on
    the list.
    STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this
    article as close
    to
    original as possible. Now, post your amended article to at
    least 200
    newsgroups. (I think there are close to 24,000 groups) All
    you need is 200,
    but remember, the more you post, the more money you make!
    This is perfectly
    legal! If you have any doubts, refer to Title 18 Sec. 1302
    & 1341 of the
    Postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for yourself
    and, whenever
    you need money, you can use it again, and again.
    PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because
    of the honesty
    and integrity of the participants and by their carefully
    adhering to the
    directions. Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the
    program will
    continue and the money that so many others have received will
    come your way.
    NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to
    you, either on a
    computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you.
    This VERIFIES that
    you are truly providing a service. (Also, it might be a good
    idea to wrap
    the $1 bill in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail theft.)
    So, as each
    post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six
    members will
    be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer
    with one dollar
    each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that
    when your name
    reaches the #1 position you will be receiving thousands of
    dollars in
    CASH!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of
    the first six
    people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the
    list and you're
    in business!
    ---DIRECTIONS ----- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS------------

    I have scanned some black and white negatives into my computer(iMac) where they are stored on the hard disc as positives.When I import them into iPhoto to print they turn back into negatives.How do I turn them back into positives?

    That's because you scanned them as B/W photos and iPhoto 08 doesn't support the grayscale color profile.  You can either rescan them as color photos or export them as originals out of iPhoto to a folder on the desktop and applhy this Automator application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB Profile, on them and then remimport into iPhoto. You can download it from  Toad's Cellar .  Be sure to read the warning on the website about not applying it on your only copies.

  • Is there an easy way to convert a long string into an array?

    I can convert a long string into a 1-d array by parsing and using build array, but I would like to know if there is a function to make this easier.
    For example:
    from/   aaaaaaaabbbbbbbbccccccccdddddddd         (string of ascii)
    to/       an array that is 1-d with each element having eight characters
              aaaaaaaa
              bbbbbbbb
              cccccccc
              dddddddd
    Thank you.

    Try something like this:
    (If you can guarantee that the string length is an integer multiple of 8, you an drop the two triangular modes in the upper left. )
