Turning WAVs into MP3s -- simple right?

There must be a simple way to do this that I'm missing.
I have a bunch of songs in WAV that I want to turn into mp3s. I know I can burn a CD and then put the CD back into my computer and tell iTunes to import the songs as mp3s -- but there's got to be a way to omit burning the CD.
Whenever I try I just get WAVs imported into iTunes.

There is no need to do anything to your audio files to make them into an RSS feed. An RSS feed is simply a list of links and descriptions that people can subscribe to, written in xml language.
You can use whatever type of audio files you might like, but you'll probably give a broader audiance access to the audio files if they are of the file type mp3.
So store all your mp3s in a folder named "sermons" or whatever you may choose and then link to them in your .xml file.... this becomes the RSS feed. But be aware that viewers will need either a browser that can open RSS feed documents or some sort of New Reader like:

Does FCP turn WAVs into AIFs?

Hi,
I just had someone tell me that any WAV audio files I import into FCP will be converted to AIFs, and that I have to choose one or the other for a sequence or a realtime conversion will take place. I'm pretty sure the only thing you have to choose for a sequence is bit depth and sample rate, and WAVs appear as WAVs in my browser.
Is it true they are somehow being converted? The only thing I see if I see the clip properties is the bit depth and the sample rate, and it says the "creator" is Quicktime Player. Does QT not handle WAVs natively and have to convert them to AIF?

FCP never converts when it imports. All it does is create a clip that points to the media in it's natural state. So the footage will appear as a WAV. You need to convert it to AIFF before you import it.

i have used tritonus_mp3.zip, tritonus_share.zip, mp3sp.1.5.jar, jl020.jar, javalayer.jar and Mp3Encoder.java and i have downloaded these from http://tritonus.org/plugins.html.
in my application i am capturing sound in wav format and i want to convert that into mp3.
the wav file format is: AudioFormat recordingFormat = new AudioFormat(
AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED, 44100.0F, 16, 2, 4, 44100.0F, true);
but when i am going to convert the wav into mp3 then the following exception occurs:
Error: Unsupported conversion: MPEG1L3 from PCM_SIGNED, 22050.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, little-endian, audio data
does anyone have any idea to do this - then pls help

hello all
now i can convert wav file into mp3 from my local pc. but i need to convert the wav files from applet. i mean user will record from applet and when the user will want to store that recorded file into server using applet then a conversion will occur. in this point i need the coversion. currently my applet doesn't convert the wav file into mp3 from applet. the problem is - when user is going to store or convert the file using applet an exception occurs. the exception is:

i download the "lame_enc.dll" from client pc's in "C" drive from server's lib directory.

How to turn stereo into 5.1 suround sound

Hello i have cs 5.5 i would like to take old vhs or 8mm video tapes and put them on dvd in 5.1 surround sound can anyone tell me how to spit stereo into the left center tight live left surround right surround every time i try my receiver kicks into Dolby d but the sound only comes threw the front left and tight can anyone help me and if so a step by step would be a great help.

This is gonna get complicated..so I'm gonna put pics in first and then explain them cause I dont remember what order I made the pics in...plus I'm an idiot so my explanation will be weird.. plus I never do this stuff can im using cs3...
basically this is what I did. created new project and in preferences chose 5.1 surround...chose a few mono track, a couple stereo tracks, a few submix tracks and some 5.1 tracks..something for everyone..
Then I put a real stereo wav file into a stereo track. The left and right sides were recorded so that it is REALLY stereo and very obvious ( old beatle song ). You can tell by waveform how different left and right side of stereo wav file is...
then i opened soundforge and copied ONLY the left channel of the stereo wav file and saved it as a MONO file...so I can demonstrate THAT part..
using stereo wav and using 5.1 control you can put that wav into left front, right front, etc..but it puts it ALL there unless you play with stuff a LOT in your controls...to me its easier to make a mono wav file of the left side and just use that. I would have made a right side only wav ALSO if I was to continue with this project ...

above image is real stereo wav in stereo track..like yours...
above is making a mono track wav out of the stereo left side of original stereo wav..
above.. now if I put my mono wav into that track and move my dot to front left... I hear only the left part of the original stereo wav in the left front speaker... in essence I can put mono track of 'right' side into the right front speaker using another mono track and moving the dot.. I can also now put that stuff into the other speakers as desired..and mix the volumes etc in the sound controls ... know what I mean..you can do other stuff with the stereo only wav if you cant make mono tracks for more control...and play with the submix stuff etc.. this should get you started ??
ps.. I also made a stereo wav of the left side ONLY just in case you wanted to see what that looks like in a stereo track..but its only left side of original wav..

The Complete Procedure For Turning Audio Cassettes Into MP3s

Please consider me a baby , or ignorant on how to begin the process of turning many old and rare cassettes into MP3 format.
One friend told me that I need to get an audio interface device to go with my MacBook Pro to do this.
Another friend said he uses Adobe Audition to turn his cassettes into MP3s, but I am not sure if he uses this with a PC or with a Mac. The whole thing is not clear to me.
I read briefly in another query that Taste or Spin Doctor is used to do this. Are they similar soft ware like Adobe Audition, and if so are they more user friendly ?
I need to be able to visualize what kind of wires I need to connect the Mac to an audio interface to the cassette player.
I want to get the best quality sound I can, within a certain budget, if there are certain factors that I am not aware of. I'm archiving these recordingsd for generations to come.
Once I learn from you how to connect all of this together, I need to know how I will edit these tapes. Some will be at a low volume and I may need to increase the volume, some may be distorted and loud. Some will have a hiss on them or some other interference.
Another concern is that when a freind did some cassettes for me into MP3 before, entire sides of a cassette with many songs all got "stuck together" as if they were all one song. I would like to be able to divide them up on a side. Do I do this editing as the recording is being done, or do I do this later ? What is possible ? It seems it is better to do it as it is playing.

If you can see the track in your iTunes library, right-click the track and choose "Show in Windows Explorer." This will take you right to the folder where the corresponding song file is located.

Examples could be found on the JMF Solutions page.
Only I can say about mp3 through network - it's hardly possible. I recommend GSM for compression2transmit. It could be used via GSM content descriptor. I'm not sure, but I suppose MP3 is supported only for files, there's no MP3.RTP or such (if you want to transmit files, it should not cause any problems).
About JavaSound - it does not matter... You still need JMF to be installed on Client, and AppletCapture to be enabled. Futrher - would it be DirectSound, JavaSound, or anything else - just the deal of JMF.
I tried to use JavaSound capture with proceeding AudioInputStream to JMF, but failed to do this.
About your problem - best solution seems like that:
capture sound
put it into processor
set format to GSM
transmit
so then, server receives it and formats it as it likes.
If you want to transmit exactly files, you should use just some of pure java after capturing. java.net, or such thing.

iTunes for Mac can't handle WMA files, iTunes for winsloth can.
if you have access to a PC, use iTunes there to convert the files. alternatively, you can get EasyWMA and use that app.

On my older Macbook i have always been able to easily turn my .band files into mp3s under the Advanced heading in itunes, but with my Macbook Pro, that is not an option. The option has become "Create AAC version". How can I turn my .band files into mp3s so that I can load them onto my web page and my students can pick them up as mp3s and put them on their devices?

The option has become "Create AAC version".
Your iTunes importing preferences are currently set to AAC. If you change your Importing preferences to mp3, the option should then become "Create mp3 version". See the following document for some more details:

Wave not converting into MP3

I have been sent a wave file that is 2:47 in length. When I convert it into MP3 format it only converts half of the file and it is 1:30 in length?? I have tried many time but I keep getting the same result. Is it because the file is too big?

I'm not sure if the WAV is mono or stereo. While it did actually convert, the MP3 fades out at 1 min. 30 sec. It is a song being mastered for a CD so I am figuring that the WAV is stereo. There are 10 songs on the CD and all of the WAV files converted to MP3 with the exception of two. Both fade out in the middle of the song. The bar indicates that this is the end of the song. So, in fact it converts about half the song. The actual song is 2 min. 47 sec. The sound technician says that some of the files are huge and perhaps they are just too big to convert. I'll be getting the actual audio master on Monday so we will test it on every media for corruption. Very strange however as I have not had this problem before.

Converting wma's into mp3s

Hi,
I have a Zen Xtra with about a third of my files as mp3s and the rest in wma format. I've tried converting the remaining wma's into mp3s using Creatuve Media Source but it says that 'file conversion is not supported.' Even though its not necessary to turn my wma files into mp3s, I would still prefer all the files to be of the same format. Can anyone help me out? Do I need to download an update of Creative Media Source?

Try updating to the latest version of MediaSource, 3.30.2, from this site.
DRM stands for "digital rights management"; it's most commonly used on files downloaded from legal download services. However, some versions of WMP add DRM restrictions to ripped music, which may block certain actions. In WMP 0, choose Tools > Options, then the Rip Music tab; make sure the "Copy protect music" box is NOT checked. (It's unchecked by default in WMP 0, but was checked by default in some earlier versions of WMP.) If it is checked, uncheck it, then re-rip the CDs.

WAV to MP3 conversion not working

I just bought an iTalk which records voice memos as .wav files. I right-clicked on one and chose "Convert Selection to MP3" and iTunes creates an .mp3 file (888kb from the original 1.2 MB .wav file), but when I try playing it in WinAMP, I get no sound. I sent it to a co-worker and he hears nothing as well. Help?

You can very easily do it.
Simply select MP3 CD or Data CD.
In order to make an MP3 CD, the files must already be MP3 but converting is simple.

Yeah, it's simple. You scan your images singly, then import them. Then, one by one adjust them. Under the adjustment brick, pull up the CURVES tool. It is one of dozens available from the pulldown menu on the left side.
So, with your image in view, you click on the adjustment tool, select CURVES (which will be at the bottom of a few other adjustment sliders such as EXPOSURE) under the Histogram and then grab the bottom of the right hand curve and swing it all the way to the left. Then grab the left hand curve and drag it all the way to the right.
The right curve represents highlights. The left curve represents shadows. Now the two are reversed. Your negative is now a positive. For added control, you can create mid-tone curves of your own and make finer adjustments. I haven't done this much so the experts might weigh in here with corrections and added advice.

Converting WAV to MP3

I had heaps of WAV files on my computer then i tranfured them to my D drive and reimaged the C Drive, now i dont know how to turn all these WAV files into MP3's and i dont want to load up all my CD's again because it could take hours. So how can i take this music, turn it into a MP3 so that i can then put it on my iPod.

I'll just add that your iPod supports WAV already, so you don't need to convert them to MP3. That said, if you convert them you can fit more on the iPod. Also, the battery will probably last longer with MP3s.
