Turquoise screen that doesn't do anything

Hi everyone!
I've been reading these boards for a couple of days as I have an old iBook (G3--dual USB) well, it's not actually that old, it should still be working....
It already had the logic board replacement.
But apparently about 6 months ago it was having this problem where the screen would freeze if the computer was moved. Finally it just died one day. Now when you try to start it up it just has a turquoise screen with the apple and the spinny thing. Nothing else happens ever.
I just realized that I have a semi-important document saved on that computer that I don't think I backed up (or maybe it was backed up on my work computer that died the same time and had to be wiped). I want to get that document off the computer!!
Does anyone know what this might be? I'm totally fine with DIY repair...
Or if you know a way I can get the file off the computer, that would be great too.
Thank you!!!

It sounds like the logic board may have failed again.

You may be able to get the iBook to remain responsive in FireWire Target Disk Mode so you can retrieve your data by this method:
If the iBook is on, shut it down and wait 30 seconds (or longer). Pick it up in your left palm to the left of the trackpad and squeeze the case there between your palm and left thumb as you push the power button and key combination to start up in FireWire Target Disk Mode. Do not let up the pressure on the case. Continue applying this pressure as you save your data to the other Mac. If you let up and the iBook dies or freezes, you will have to start over, allowing it to rest several hours or overnight before beginning again.
Let us know how things go.

  • My mac is stuck on a white screen that doesn't have anything on it

My family uses a mac so we each have our own account. When I logged out of mine, the mac went to its white loading screen. Sometimes our mac is a little slow so I thought nothing of it. Two days later, it's still stuck on the white screen. Help!

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • S1 Yoga with ghosting - Looking for a replacement screen that doesn't ghost

I've had this system for around three weeks now and I can say that, while not terribly bothersome, the ghosting issue is definitely present and always makes me a bit concerned when using the device for long periods as I've heard some things about the retention growing worse over time. With that considered, I've two questions. The foremost is to what degree does the image retention grow worse over time, and how severe is it likely to become on a system that is used 6 or 7 days every week and anwhere from 2-5 hours each of those days? Secondly, I've heard that newer systems are shipping with screens that do not display any sort of retention problem and that service centers have such screens available. Would it be possible to obtain a replacement screen, which doesn't experience the retention issue, that I could simply swap myself? I would prefer not to have to send my laptop to a service center because I have a very regular need for it and couldn't spare it for more than a few days during the upcoming holidays. I have quite a considerable amount of experience working with such devices and making FRU swaps, and am confident that I could make the swap (assuming that the process isn't too particularly difficult), especially with reference materials to guide myself. Any feedback or information is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  • Have altered the display settings on my mac mini (version 10,6,4) it is now generating a screen that doesn't produce a signal on the HDMI tv I use as a monitor. have no visible screen so cannot reset back.

Have altered the screen resolution,(don't ask why). and am now getting a no signal message on the LG HDMI tv I use a monitor. Have tried going through an old CRT monitor, but no luck. it all worked perfectly before I meddled. Cannot see a screen to reset to a resolution that works. Am new to Macs, and not exactly overburdened with tech know how. Help please.

thanks for your reply Stefan. have reset the pram, but no luck. still getting unsupported signal message. also tried connecting to the tv via an HDMI cable, then get the tv to detect the display. managed to get a picture of a screen saver ( purple galaxy) but this was competely static, could not get any further response, would really appreciate anything further you could add.

  • I have an LG Extravert with a touch screen that doesn't work. How do I access the internal memory (NOT the SD card) to save data that wasn't moved over to the card?

My touch screen fell victim to the same issue many people have with this phone - the touch screen has become only effective for very limited items - mostly just Contacts. I've tried bluetooth and plugging in the phone, shutting it down and repowering a million times. Nothing will let me access any memory that wasn't already stored on the SD card. Help!

        a_oglesby,
A non-working phone is a bummer. Let's get your phone working. We encourage you to plug your phone into your computer to see if you can view items stored on your device.

  • TS1538 iPod Touch with blank screen that doesn't shut off and not recognized by iTunes?

I opened the app "MyTown 2", and it stayed on the opening screen for about 5 minutes - WAYYY too long! So I tried to close the app. A slight grayscale sort of film "slid" down over the opening screen, and then it went to this light gray, completely blank screen. It's been that way for over an hour - no matter what I do, can't do a hard shut down, and the device is not recognized by iTunes at all. It's completely DEAD!!!! Is there any hope? Anyone have a clue?

Following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod Touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • My iPhone 4 has a cracked screen that I cannot see anything on it. I want to clear my pictures off of it before I sell it. I plugged it into my Surface RT, but I cannot download iTunes and I cannot unlock my phone. How can I get my pictures off my phone?

I have a cracked iPhone 4. It still works, but the body is cracked and I cannot see the screen. I want to get my pictures off before I sell it. I have a Microsoft Surface RT and cannot download iTunes, and I cannot unlock my phone because I cannot see the screen. Any suggestions?

The solution would have been to back up your photos to your computer before the screen broke.
It's too late now.  But you'll know for next time.

  • Visio2013 preview opens a .img file that doesn't run anything

Has anyone else tried to download the Visio2013 preview? After then entire install process I click launch and what looks like a txt file opens but nothing happens... VisioProfessional_x64_en-us
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have no idea what you did, so unfortunately cannot comment on it. Since you reference the img file I have to assume you used it to either create a dvd that could be used to install it or mounted it on a virtual application so that it could be installed.
When you have the image mounted (either virtually or physically) can you explore the the files and see what is there before beginning the install?

  • TS1382 I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch with a screen that doesn't ligbI8 hiijhbvvcfghhcbbjht up and at times it returns to the home screen while typing such as in facebook.  Any suggestions?

I have a 2nd generation Ipod touch.  Lately the screen will not light up and also at times while typing it returns to the home screen (such as in facebook. Any suggestions?

Have you tried any of the usual 5 R's for troubleshooting.  See here for more information.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If none of those resolve the issue (including restoring the device back to factory defaults), the backlight issue is likely hardware related, meaning you'll need to have your iPod serviced either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • My iMovie isn't working it will not let me open a project or go anywhere other then the opening screen which doesn't show anything at all. what can i do

    Please help me

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Satellite M30X-111 screen doesn't display anything but external monitor works

My laptop screen just doesn't display anything (look like when the computer is off) but when I connect the external monitor, then the desktop will be displayed on that monitor. I tried to recover the laptop using the recovery disk and it worked again, but today, it stopped working again.
I again have to plug in the external monitor, and after I tried to reboot, I keep pressing F8 but the start up mode doesn't come up, only the sound of when you keep pressing a button for too long beeps, however, the laptop monitor works again.
How do I fix this problem?

    Hi
According to your first posting I presume that LCD display on your notebook is defective. If you can not see BIOS settings or Toshiba welcome screen there must be some display problem.
Experiment with external display is to be sure that graphic card is not responsible for that. In your case it works with external display and graphic card can not be responsible.
Like I said try to enter bios settings and report if you can see Toshiba welcome screen.

  • Is there a video player that doesn't use temp files?

I need to find a video player that doesn't leak anything to the disk when playing files. The swap is already encrypted so that is no big deal. I view confidential client videos from a truecrypt encrypted disk.
    Thanks

OK, that's good. A portfolio is essentially a master document with file attachments. It obviously has special functionality, but you can have similar functionality using a standard PDF as the master document and adding the other PDFs as attachments. The Attachments pane allows you to search the attached files and you can provide links to individual attachments in the master document. For example you could set up a series of buttons (with spiffy icons) that link to the attached documents so that they will open when the buttons are clicked.
So you could go through the trouble of preparing a portfolio proper as well as the type of document described above, or just the latter. As Steve mentioned, the future of portfolios is in doubt and they are not supported outside of Adobe PDF viewers, so you might want to go with this alternative exclusively.

  • Adobe Flash Player 9 doesn't do anything!

    This is very frustrating!
I've installed Adobe Flash Player 9.0.124.0 on W98SE (on two
    different machines) but :
    1) If I double-click an FLV file, the player opens up and
does nothing, just shows a blank window.
    2) If I uninstall via the Control Panel, the player still
pops up when I double-click an FLV file.
    3) If I uninstall via 'uninstall_flash_player.exe', still the
player pops up, even though the "C:\Windows\System\Macromedia"
    directory is removed.
    So, the following questions :
    1) Does the "Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX" package actually
do anything or is the Standalone Debugger the appropriate package
    for viewing FLV files?
    2) Why can't I get rid of this useless thing, how can this
thing still live even after its directory is deleted?
    BTW :
    1) I can play the FLV files using IrfanView with plugins, so
    the files themselves are OK.
    2) Yes, I've consistently rebooted after each install or
    uninstall attempt.
I'd really like the official Adobe player to actually play
    these Adobe format files!
    Joe.

OK, I've figured out a few things :
    1. The stuff in "C:\Windows\System\Macromed" is the ActiveX
stuff that web browsers and other applications use like a codec for
handling Flash files. Since online content seems to work, this
    stuff isn't the problem.
    2. Double-clicking a local Flash file (or using the 'start'
    command) actually invokes the application
"flashplayer9r124_win_sa.exe", even when you "uninstall" Flash
Player 9 via the Control Panel, even when you delete the ActiveX
    stuff above.
So it's the "flashplayer9r124_win_sa.exe" application that
doesn't do anything! I don't know if it uses the ActiveX stuff or
not, either way it's a piece of junk! Not only doesn't it play
anything, if you select File/Open/Browse, it doesn't even display a
directory tree or list of files to open.
As a solution, I'm now using the Fortop FLV Player to play
local Flash files. Works great. This uses the Adobe ActiveX stuff,
    BTW.
    Joe.
