Tutorial DVD for Multi-clip editing

Hello,
Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced Tutorial DVD, that takes you through Multi-clip editing? And/or perhaps a website that has tutorials? I've seen a few, but as expected, it only shows a few of the steps - many thanks.

  • Multi-clip editing not working

    Hello everyone,
I need help with the multi-cam editing feature, I have done everything I know to be correct to setup my multi-cam editing.
    1. setting a common in point with my 3 cameras
    2. selecting each and creating my multi-clip
    3. setting my RT settings for multi-clip editing
    4. making sure open is set
The blue marks show up as I switch from angle to angle( I'm using the number pad as my switcher). The problem comes in when i stop and press the spacebar. The blue markers disappear and the cuts don't show up. Please help me understand what I could be doing wrong.

Thank you all for answering my question. Yet I have done all these things you both mentioned. Its as if there is a glitch. Prior to this post I found that I was switching and not cutting my selections, the adjustment was made and finally I thought I could edit in peace. When I hit the space bar after my cuts (no longer just selection) do not conform to my multi-cam timeline. I mean is there an order I should be doing things in to have this work. The crazy part is that it works sometimes and other times it just doesn't want to function correctly.
    steps taken:
    1. Setting a common in point with my 3 cameras
    2. Selecting each and creating my multi-clip
    3. Setting my RT multi-clip settings for multi-clip editing on timeline
    4. Loading my keyboard layout (which Cut video to angle etc.)
    5. Making sure Gang is set to Open
    6. Double click on multi clip in sequence to load onto viewer
    7. Setting my audio to center and other two to video only
-play the sequence, start switching and hope/ pray my cuts conform to the Seq.
I'm I doing something out of order here ?
    thanks in advance

  • Mpeg streamclip and multi clip editing

I am working on a project in which I have two pieces of video.  My main camera for talent and mp4 files from a software that captures video screen movement.. similat to camtasia.
My Talent cam settings are frame size 1440 x 1080i @ 29.97 fps.
I'm trying to run the mp4's through streamclip to make them into a file that will work with my talent cam.
I'm wanting to do multi clip editing but I cannot get the file from streamclip to work with my talent cam.  I get warrnings that the frame sizes don't match... so I fix that,  then I get warnings that the video rate doesn't match and I get that fixed.  then I get warnings that the codec types don't match.
I've used pro res 422,  apple dv- dvc ntsc with the same frame and fps settings, AVI settings etc... to many tries to remember them all.
Can anyone tell me a good setting from streamclip that will work to do a multi cam edit?
    R

Have you tried using compressor?  Has a lot more controls and it might do the trick.
Wondering if a difference in field dominance could be causing this.
What do you mean by avi settings?  avi files are not gonna work in fcp.
If you have 2 short clips from each source and want to send them to me, I'll see if I can figure what's up.

  • Multi Clip Editing Suddenly Stopped Working

I have a very strange situation and I wonder if anybody else has encountered this. I have a G5 running OS X 10.4.11. It's a 1.8GHz processor with 1.5 GB RAM. I have two 17" monitors connected to it: an older Apple Studio Display and a new Apple Cinema Display. I might add that this computer has been a completely reliable workhorse for me when it comes to Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Photoshop. A recent upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2, however, left me unable to run Motion very effectively if at all. I was also unable to run any of the Noise Industry plugins that I really wanted to use. After seeking advice, I installed a Radeon X800XT graphics card. Visually I didn't notice any striking difference in the images on my screens, BUT I was able to run Motion in real time they way it's supposed to run AND the Noise Industry plugins that I downloaded to demo worked great.
At the same time I installed the graphics card I also decided to move a FC Pro project and all the related media off of an external LaCiie porsche drive (250GB) and onto my second internal drive (150GB). Prior to the move, I had been working on the project—a concert shot with four cameras—using multi clip editing without a single hitch.
All of a sudden, FC wouldn't even launch. Click on the icon — nothing. Neither would Soundtrack. All the other components of the Studio worked fine. So I removed ALL the Final Cut elements — and yes, I got them ALL. Re-installed the software and accompanying media. Same problem. So then I moved the previously mentioned FC project back on to the La Cie drive, did a clean install of the OS on my other internal drive, did all the appropriate upgrades, did a clean install of FC Studio on THAT drive and all the appropriate upgrades. This time FC (and Soundtrack) launch like they're supposed to — but when I go into my multi clip project and double click on the track in the timeline to "send" the 4-camera view to the the viewer, I consistently get the spinning beach ball of death.
I apologize for such a long preamble to my problem, but I wanted to convey as much information as possible. Has anyone ever encountered anything like this before? I know the next step is probably to swap my old graphics card back in, but before I do that I wanted to see if the esteemed forum had any suggestions,
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    John

    bummer.
Moving multiclip projects from the desktop may have resulted in some sort of corruption dunno... Media manager might have done a better job of this, but I've never moved a project that had multiclips in it.
Only thing I can suggest is a rebuild of the timeline? Maybe just copy and paste it all to a new sequence and/or to a new project file?

  • Multi clip editing

First Multi Clip edit - I can;t find how to adjust a portion of a clip. If I revert back to original media and change a select part - the entire clip changes too.
Mmm, what am I missing/doing wrong, please.

The place to do color correction is in the Angle Editor.
Here is a brief support doc summary.
There are also several good video tutorials and demos on the subject. Here's one of them.

  • Line Up Clips for a Multi-clip Edit

Hi I am editing a dance video, when it was recorded at the event a few of the camera people decided to pause after every song - this has made it a hassle to edit. I am trying to line up the clips to get them all in sync for a multi-clip. The only way I could think of to do this was give each camera angle a track and line them up that. I almost have them all lined up, but I have no idea how to make it back into one clip, since it is currently cut into tons of pieces. How do I combine them back into one clip? The closest I could find was Nesting, but that creates a sequence, and I can't make a Multi-clip out of sequences.
Each video track is a different angle, the screenshot I posted doesn't show all of the clips lined up, because I didn't get quite that far. How can I make this into a multi-clip
I just started using Final Cut about a week ago and I don't really know how it all works....yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't retrieve iMovie project saved to DVD for storage and editing.

When I save my iMovie project to DVD for storage and possible future editing, I cannot retrieve it from the DVD. I get the message, "The project could not be opened, bacuase the disk is full, the folder is locked, or the folder permissions are incorrect..." How do I remedy that?

    the folder is locked
iMovie projects won't work with locked volumes (such as a DVD!). So you must first copy the project to the HD.

  • Computer stops during multi-clip editing

I have plenty of RAM and am utilizing a 200G external HD but when I begin editing in multi-clip mode the program stops. Is there an optimum setting I should know about?

What do you mean it stops? More details please...

  • Nikon SLR video to multi clip editing

I did a multi cam video shoot for fun and one of my camera's was a SLR Nikon 300s. I recorded it onto a CF card & it was recorded as AVI files. I imported the AVI file into the browser along with the other video which was shot on sony z5 cams. When I click on make multi clip I get a warning that the Frame rates don't match. and I notice the Nikon is shot at 24fps with a frame size of 640x424.
OK, I thought, so I exported out the AVI as a QT file (exported both from FCP and QT player) with a setting of dv/dvcpro-ntsc best quality, 29.97 fps, aspect ratio 4:3 and 720x480 dimensions.
When the file is finished and I import the new QT file into FCP browser it still doesn't open a multi clip. Seems the browser fps setting is reading 30fps even though it was set to 29.97fps in export.
Question is... any idea how to get this file to be 720 x 480 with a 29.97 fps setting to show up in the browser?

Well...your Z5 is an HDV camera...HDV, 1440x1080. That still doesn't match the DV 720x480. They need to match EXACTLY...in every possible way.
Or...make life easy and get PluralEyes to sync this up. No need for FCPs multicam.

  • Using Audio Sync for Multi-Cam Edits Premiere Pro CC

Hello everyone - I wanted to share some issues I've come across while using Audio to sync multiple camera angles....
For my music video shoot I have two cameras and an external recorder where I capture the audio and then edit in GarageBand or Adobe Audition. The problem I've discovered is that when I sync the clips using audio it will degrade the quality of my finalized audio clip.
Basically, something is happening to the audio clip quality once Premiere completed the synchronization process. I've rendered the video, exported the video etc... But there is still audio quality degradation.
I've compared this with Final Cut Pro X and the Audio in FCP X remains unchanged and is not altered in any way.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Update: I just happened happened to have a pair of ath m50s lying around.... put them on and I can see that in the multi cam sequence, I can hear only out of the left ear... once I drag and drop something to my timeline the audio's good again...
    Sorry for this question... operator???
I shoot tech videos on YouTube and I edit my own videos, so I guess I am the operator & observer here...
    Am shooting a tutorial...
Cam 1 - My Camcorder that shoots the phone
Cam 2 - Actually a screen recorder that records the steps on screen & audio from webcam
Audio - Blue Spark Digital recording to audacity
Now if I merge Cam 1 & Audio or Cam 2 & Audio alls fine... I can check the audio meters and everythings the same as before
But if I create a multicamera sequence then the audio output is about 20% lower (and no Premiere's not using the audio source from Cam1 or 2 here since they are too low and am 100% sure its not either of those)
I guess am messing up something but am unable to identify what..
    Syncronize Point - Audio
    Track Channel - 1
    Sequence Preset - Automatic
Audio Sequence Settings - Camera 1
Audio Channels Preset - Automatic (or Mono since my Blue Spark records in mono)
    Camera Names - Enumerate Cameras
Any Idea where am messing up?

  • Adobe Premiere CC, Trying to Sync 2 camera for Multi cam edit.

    Hi,
I am at present trying out Premeire CC, my workflow is usually a minimum of a 2 camera shoot for weddings, what I am trying todo in CC is to try and sync all the clips together for a multi cam sequence ready to edit.
I have followed various options fropm Adobe TV and some you tube videos with no luck.
I have 2 folders imported one folder for cam 1 and second folder for cam 2. I  select all the clips and select the new multi cam option, and choose audio for syncing. CC status bar come up and looks like it is syncing, however at the end a error comes up saying one or more clips could not be synced.
at present with CS6 I put both camera footage on one timeline video 1 video 2, I then export as an xml, and use red giant plural eyes for syncing, I then import xml back into premiere, and all files are synced pretty good. I would say 90 to 100% of time without to many issues.
can some one advise if this is possble is CC, if so whats the best method. thank you

Premiere Pro cannot do this automatically.  You will need to create a multicam sequence for each pair of clips, cut those, and then add them to the main edit as needed.
Little tip: knowing that each segment will need it's own multicam sequence, let the cameras run until that segment is over.

  • Showing Multi clip editing in timeline (track by track)

I think I saw a tutorial where a person was showing how to multi edit and at the end he pressed a short cut to reveal all the separate camera tracks on the timeline.  How is this done?
Example ... of course when multi editing in the timeline, there is only 1 track of video even those your choosing multiple sources in the viewer.  How do you show all the clips in the timeline of you wanted to see all of them?

    Does my question make sense?
    Can this be done?

  • What is best practice for multi camera edit with differing lengths?

I have three cameras that took video of an engagement party. Camera A and B took it all (with some early extra material exclusive to each camera). Camera C took some, then stopped, then took more.
So I have four sets of clips - A and B which are complete, then C then D.
Should I create sequence 1 with A, B and C synchonised, then create sequence 2 with A, B and D synchronised, then sequence 3 with sundry early non-multi camera clips, plus sequence 1 plus sequence 2 then late non-multi camera clips?
Or can I synchronise A, B and C, then on the same timeline synchronise A, B and D? I'm concerned that the second synchronisation will put C out of sync.
What is the best way to approach this?
    Thanks in advance.

A and B which are complete, then C then D.
I think you're looking at this in the wrong way.  You have only three cameras, A, B and C, but you don't really have a D camera, as those are just other clips from camera C.  You might call them C1 and C2 if you like, but calling them D seems to be confusing the issue, as it's still only three cameras, and three shots to choose from when cutting the sequence.  (Except for the gap between C clips, where you will have only the A and B shots to choose.)
You can absolutely sync all the clips form camera C on the same sequence as A and B.  And it will probably be easier to do so.

  • Multi Clip editing problems -Final Cut Studio 2.0

When I have the split screen for the two video tracks I'm editing in the left box and I select either number one or number two,to become the msster, the master video screen on the rightside of my monitor turns green snd the picture becomes fragmented. This phenomena seems to occur on a random basis with either subclip. The program will quit within a minute or two after this occurs. I've reinstalled the system, reinstalled the program with no luck. Everything works up to the point when I merge the two subclips into a master clip.

What format are you editing? AND what do you mean it all works until you merge subclips into a master clip? Are you talking about making a multiclip? Also post what system you're running i.e. Mac? Drives? Graphics card? OS and version of QT?

  • HOW CAN I DO MULTI CAM EDITING, OR MULTI CLIP EDITING

I want to know how i could do mulit cam editing or multiclip editing with final cut express.

Here's how I did it a few times:
    1. Add video tracks (and audio tracks if needed) to your timeline to equal the number of cameras you have. Of course if you have more than 4 this will start to get impractical.
    2. Edit in your clips from your different camera angles, one to each video track.
    3. Double click each clip in turn to get it into the viewer and click the Motion tab. Change its scale to 50%.
    4. Select each clip in turn in the timeline and move it to one corner of the canvas. You need to have "image + wireframe" selected in the Canvas popup menu in order to move it with the mouse.
You should now have up to 4 different camera angles shown at the same time in the Canvas, each in its own quadrant.
    5. Now the hard part is to align each clip according to time. Hopefully you have some sort of visual cue you can use to align the clips.
    6. Then play through the timeline and use the razor tool to cut the clips where you want a camera angle change.
    7. Select each camera angle piece you want from each cut you made and change its scale back to 100% and center it at 0,0. Delete the unused clips.
    8. If you want, you can move all the clips that remain back to v1 so that you can use transitions between them.
What to do with all the various audio is another question. I usually use the audio from the best source all the way through, only changing to the other camera angle's audio when necessary.
