Tutorial : fix link color issue under linux

Problem
I use a dark theme and the linls in skype interface are unreadable.
I opened topic about this a long time ago, but unfortunately no one could help me. This topic is now archived and read-only, so the purpose of this message is to bring the solution to the people encoutering the same issue.

Context
I'm using :
- debian jessie amd64 (up to date)
- KDE (up to date) with a dark theme (for example obsidian coast)
- the current version of skype (4.3.0.37), installed according to https://wiki.debian.org/fr/skype
1) Remove the package kde-config-gtk-style if it is installed :
aptitude purge kde-config-gtk-style
Indeed, this create ~/.kde4 and if this directory exists (even if it is empty!!), you'll get the dark blue link.
2) Also remove or rename this directory if it exists (~ = for example /home/toto).
mv ~/.kde4 ~/.kde4.old
3) Edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals with your favorite text editor. In the [Colors:View} section, fix ForegroundLink value as follows :

ForegroundLink=156,212,25
Note : you could also fix the other ForegroundLink values using sed if you want, but this is the only value used by skype.
4) Run skype, link should be now ok. If not, check whether Skype > Options > General > Choose style, you shoud select Desktop settings and re-run skype. If it doesn't work, try to rename ~/.Skype into ~/.Skype.old (to run skype with the default profile) and re-run skype.

Hi, I have an L300 with Insyde 1.50 BIOS and I have been struggling with ACPI under Linux (as have many others, the web is littered with hacks and workarounds for this notebook). After enabling acpi debugging in the kernel, I noticed that some capabilites were marked as unsupported. Decompiling and recompiling with Intel's iasl, I noticed this:

Clearly this does not follow the ACPI spec (of which Toshiba is(was?) an active partner listed on all the documentation). From my limited understanding of the spec:
1) Method(_OSC... should list 4 rather than 5 args
2) Method (_OSC... should be Serialized as it contains a Name declaration.
2a) Alternatively the Name(.... declaration could be replaced with a local variable of some sort?
3) And (CAPB, 0xFFFFFFFC) should have a result field. I looked for side effects in the spec, but found none, so really this whole if else block does nothing as far as I can see. This is where my understanding of the spec lets me down. I'm not really sure what the original intent of the code is, so I don't know what it should be doing (although my best guess is that is supposed to apply a bit mask to BUF1?).
I hope someone more knowledgeable can help me resolve this with either a BIOS upgrade for this notebook (best) or a temporary fix to my DSDT so that I can send sufficient info for the Linux ACPI developers work around the problems (not as good because it leaves other alternative OS's out of the loop).

seems that you are realy deep in this stuff ...
how about joining a developer group - i am not kidding!
if you get this kernel running with workarounds and / or able to fix this bios
i am sure you will be needed to support a developer group.
as long as models like this is sold with windows the support on linux will be poor.
developing drivers for only one special notebook is too expensive...

Link color issue

I've set the color for linked texts on "page properties"
which is fine. However, on one page the linked text color and
background color are the same and I cannot see the linked text! Is
it possible to override the command on these occasions (keeping the
general command intact) and how?

It's only fine if you want one link style throughout your
site - which is
rare.
For multiple link styles, you use CSS (Cascading Style
Sheets).

How would i fix this color issue.

This is an Autotrace, right?
Do yourself and your client a favor and use the pen tool to draw these rather simple shapes. Then apply gradients and you will get a nice and clean result.

Dual monitor color issue - oversaturated image in CS4

Hi, I wonder if you can help. I found people having similar issues, but never seen an actual answer, so your input would be greatly appreciated.
My set-up:
MacBook Pro Dual Core intel based 15.4 2.6GHz running OS X 10.5.6 - also my primary display
HP LP2475- secondary display
CS4
Both monitors were calibrated using X-rite Eye-one LT (each with a separate profile)
I've tried calibrating each monitor 3 times and still get the proble,
My problem:
Running in dual monitor mode in bridge or safari/firefox- no problems at all: almost consistent colour between both monitors.
When I open the images in Photoshop CS4, they look fine on my MacBook screen, but when I drag them over to the HP the color is grossly oversaturated - especially in the red. What am I doing wrong? (in fact on the HP monitor, the color looks perfect in bridge but super insanely saturated in CS4)
Does anyone have a clue on how I can fix this?

You say your running 10.5.6? Why haven't you updated to 10.5.8?
FWIW, I never had color issues under 10.5.X, however I have since upgrade to 10.6.

BIOS fix for Color killed my Yoga 2

I found the solution on the discussion board to fix the color issue on the Lenovo Yoga 2.
I clicked to install the BIOS update, and it went to the screen where I showed it installing.
After that it went to a blank screen showing some brightness, and the keyboard light was on.
The instructions had said to not unplug the laptop. So I left it overnight to see what would happen, and this morning it looked exactly the same.
I tried the power button, and it doesn't change anything.
It won't turn on, or off, or even show the white light for power.
HELP.... What can I do to fix my brand new Lenovo Yoga 2 ??????

how long did you keep the power button depressed? Please hold it pressed for at least 5 seconds; the system should shut down as described in the following knowledgebase article;

AppleScript Editor - Color issue

When saving a script as an application, it is possible to use the Font and Format menus to format text in the description area of the script window. The formatting applied to its description should appear in the script's startup screen.
Has anyone ever noticed that the color in the startup screen seems to never be the same as the one applied to the text in the description area? To get a blue text, for instance, in the startup screen, the text must be set to red in the description area.
That surely looks like a bug. Any comments?

I wasn't aware of the possibility to edit the description.rtfd file. Very interesting. However that doesn't fix the color issue. To get a blue text in the script's startup screen, the text has to be set to red in the description.rtfd file.

Page to page PDF links under Linux

I'm using Framemaker version 8.0p277.
I have created separate pages for a menu hierarchy that cascades from "contents.pdf" down to subordinate pages like "genh_toc.pdf". Each file is a single page; no menu is collected into a book (but easily could be - I just inherited this setup). Subordinate pages have links to manuals, which are comprised of 4 to 20+ files.
The menu links are made using the Hypertext command, openlinkfitwin. They work under Windows, but not under Linux. I can see that the names are correct in the Linux status bar.
Your thoughts?

If the links work okay on Windows Adobe Reader but not Linux Adobe Reader, and you are using relative pathnames in your links, then this could be a Linux Adobe Reader problem. Several versions of Adobe Reader on various platforms are notorious for document links not working, especially if the link has to open a document in a different directory.
You could try updating your Linux Adobe Reader version, although bug-fixed versions of Reader are not always rolled out on all platforms - Linux users often have to wait a long time for a fixed version.
Or you could (as I have been forced to do by this chronic and recurring bug) abandon Reader altogether and use xpdf instead.

Color saturation problem in Acrobat Reader 7.0.9 under Linux

Hi,
I'm working with a guy who is producing PDFs of my work with Indesign.
Using acrobat reader under Linux (version 7.0.1 and also 7.0.9), the colours in these PDFs always appear very saturated. This is a big problem for me because I cannot see with the reference viewer the results of PDFs to be sent to print.
I tried the same pdf file under OS X & Windows, it appears OK with Acrobat reader. Other free pdf readers under Linux also show the right colours (but not always the transparency ;-).
Does anybody has an idea to help me?

Changing keyboard colors in MSI GT60 2PC series under Linux

Hi,
I intend to buy myself a laptop and I just would love to get one of MSI GT60 series but the thing is... I'm a nerd [']... ;(
I will use Linux Debian or Gentoo on it and want to ask you about the compatibility with penguin. This multi-colored keyboard is great I love it but will I be able to customize it under Linux? What about other drivers?
Yeah I know installing linux on gaming laptop is stupid but oh well. :P

I did run Linux Mint on my GT70 for a while,and as you may know Linux handles drivers in a different way to Windows.I didn't need any drivers at all to make the system functional,or indeed any system I have installed Linux on so far.I did download proprietary drivers for the Nvidia card but that was it. As for the keyboard,and in my case the S-Bar I didn't find any drivers for them,but then again I didn't really need them.
Linux didn't stay on it for long though,as a gamer I was limited by what was available for the OS.
If you want to see what your system runs like on Linux without upsetting the current OS try a 'Live' USB boot of any flavour of Linux,but you may know that already anyway if you are into it.

Customer use PCI-5922 and PCI -5412 under Linux OS, if they use either of the two cards seperately,there would be OK. but if the use both of the two cards simultaneously, the error will occured as attachment shows. "Error code:-50258 occured at niscope_DAQmx Create Channel (AI-Voltage-Base).vi:2 Possible reason(s):The specified software component failed to initialize."

How to fix iMovie 08 problems under 10.5.3

iMovie problems under Mac OS X 10.5.3 linked to color system
After updating to Mac OS X 10.5.3, users may have problems with launching iMovie. For most, iMovie refuses to opens, and the usual fix of removing the iMovie preferences, caches, and other iMovie settings files, and then relaunching the program does not appear to help. One user reinstalled the program with no luck resolving the problem:
"I have the same problem. I've tried to reinstall the imovie, but it still does not work. I have imported a lot of video in iMovie. Please help!!! "
For other users, while iMovie would start, they could not open any projects or use the program.
One user, while not initially affected by this problem, found that after changing the color calibration of his Apple Cinema display iMovie suddenly wouldnt open just as described by others; however, upon reverting to a previous color profile iMovie became functional again. This indicates the problem lies somewhere in computer's color system configuration; and changing color settings seems to have fixed the problem for all affected users.
Fixes
Change the screen colors Go to the "Displays" system preferences and change the color output of the screen (either from thousands to millions, or vice versa) and relaunch iMovie. Somehow changing the display color depth modifies the color system so iMovie properly loads.
Calibrate the display While for some users calibrating the display resulted in the iMovie error, for others the problem was fixed by re-calibrating the display. Calibrating the display can be an involved process, but it is recommended to ensure your screen outputs the most accurate colors as possible. This option is available in the "Displays" system preferences under the "Color" tab.

Correcting the problem by changing profiles suggests a permissions problem which repairing permissions won't fix. Use the terminal command
ls -al /Library/ColorSync/Profiles
Compare the permissions on the working and non-working profiles. If they are different, correct the non-working instance.

ARIAL FONT IN REPORTS(WINDOWS), NOT SHOWN CORRECTLY UNDER LINUX

Our Reports are developed under Windows (Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33 and Windows 2000/Windows XP) and generated under Linux (IAS 10.1.2.0.2 with Red Hat Advanced Server). The Report Output is a PDF, that will be downloaded by the user with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This works fine, but fonts are not shown correctly in the PDF, especially ARIAL, which is the font we use.
I have run the Fontsolution Configuration Script from Metalink, but we still have a problem.
When you look at the font.pdf, wich is the testreport from fontsolutions, some sizes and styles of Arial are printed correctly others not.
Arial 8 is ok, but Arial 10 and Arial 12 are something like Times New Roman.
Arial 12 Bolded is correct, but Arial 12 italic and Arial 12 bold italic are also not
the Arial Font.
How can we correct this problem?

If you want to make platform independent use of fonts, you have to use the family, such as sans serif.
Arial is owned by monotype (http://monotype.com/). You have to contact them if you wish to redistribute it with your application. They also might have a suitable version that renders nicely under linux.

Photoshop CC Color Issues

When I updated my Photoshop program two updates ago I began having color issues in Photoshop as the rest of the Adobe Suite. Regardless of whether the color mode is RGB or CMYK the colors appear washed out on the program. This image http://i.imgur.com/BWVwbx2.jpg is an example. The image on the right is a screen shot of the original image of the shoes copied from the website, the image on the left is the same image copied into photoshop. When I try to save the RGB file as a jpeg or a PDF it looks the same as it did in the program, washed out. However, when the file is CMYK color mode and I try to save it as a jpeg or PDF it looks like this http://i.imgur.com/TAUyeOf.jpg. Both my coworker and I started having this issue on our seperate computers around the same time so I don't believe that it is a graphics card issue or something along those lines. How can I fix this? I have tried calling Adobe support, but unfortunately the person on the phone was not very experienced in the program and unable to help.
Some Info about my computer:
Currently I have Photoshop CC with the 14.2.1 update. I have Windows 7 Professional SP1, 64-bit OS, 8 GB of RAM (7.87 GB Usable) and 360 GB free space on the (C:) drive.

Illustrator and Windows Photo Viewer agree. They should, because they're both fully color managed. I assume Photoshop shows the same.
Picasa is not color managed. All bets are off there, it can display like anything under the sun, depending on what color space the file was created in, and how your monitor displays color.
There is a basic checklist for color management issues:
1 - is the application color managed at all?
2 - is there an embedded document profile, and what is it?
3 - what is the monitor profile?
We've established #1. For #2, see in the lower left corner of the Photoshop image window. Click the little arrow and check "document profile". What does it say?
#3 is often the critical one. This is where your calibrated monitor profile should be - but if you don't do that, it's often a manufacturer supplied profile. These are often worse than worthless. The best option here is to use sRGB if you have a standard gamut monitor (like the U2412) - or Adobe RGB if you have a wide gamut monitor (like your co-worker's U3011). Yes, there is a significant difference between these two.
Anyway:
Go to Control Panel > Color Management > Devices. Set sRGB IEC61966-2.1 as your default monitor profile there and relaunch Photoshop:
With this setting, Photoshop, Illustrator and Windows Photo Viewer will display (more or less) correctly. It could still be that the file had the wrong document profile, or none at all, but the file will display correctly as it is.
