Inability to control initial timeout in Socket Factory

Hello,
We have built our own RMI socket factory where we want to control the timeout of the sockets created there. This is our code
    public Socket createSocket(String host, int port) throws IOException {
            Socket socket = new Socket(host, port);
            socket.setSoTimeout(requestTimeout);
            return socket;
    }Due to spurious heavy loads on our server, we need to operate with timeout values up to 100 seconds.
However, we find that it is impossible to control the initial socket creation timeout. We observe this thought the lack of giving the the desired timeout parameter. Thus, the socket times out in the default 10 seconds in this initial call, not waiting the desired 100s before making the exception.
Creating the socket through first creating a default socket and afterwards binding it like this
Socket socket = new Socket();
socket.setSoTimeout(socketTimout);
socket.bind(new InetAddress(host,port));did not seem to do the trick in this setting either (neither did replacing bind with connect).
What is the reason for this shortcoming in the API? Any workarounds?

You want:
Socket socket = new Socket();
socket.connect(host,port,connectTimeout);
socket.setSoTimeout(readTimeout);
return socket;Socket.setSoTimeout only sets the read timeout. Also be aware that with the timed connect shown above you can usually only reduce the timeout, not increase it, from its default.

I have problems with step-by-step tutorial for ejb3.0

I don't know the example but maybe I can give you some hints though. Your stacktrace doesn't look to be related to a datasource issue. So I see two questions:
1) What's about the error?
2) How to change the datasource from Oracle to MS SQLServer 2000?

1)
The client tries to connect to the RMI-port of an OC4J instance to do some JNDI lookups, but cannot connect to the server socket.
Some questions:
Is your OC4J instance up and running BEFORE you start the client?
If you answer with yes:
Which port does the RMI server listen on? (netstat -a)
Is this port the same the client tries to use?
If you answer with yes:
Do you connect locally or via a network (do you use a firewall)?
2) The steps should include:
a) Create the database schema in SQLServer (this might include a conversion of ORACLE specific SQL to SQLServer specific syntax, Sequences and stuff like that)
b) Add the correct JDBC.Driver to your project
c) Create and test the datasource (try to use JDev)
d) Make sure that the EJB3 persistence implementation of OC4J (toplink) does support all necessary features of the MS Database. For example I'm not sure if native db sequences are supported for other RDBMS than Oracle. Don't know if you need them for your example
In theory this should all be quite simple and you don't have to write db specific code. ;-)

SSL server/client socket factory on port 3000
server/client socket factory on port 1099
When a request comes in, can we determine the type of socket factory being used?

Tutorial for managing bookmarks in iPhone environment?

I hate asking newbie questions but here goes. Searched for this but found threads regarding desktop environment.
When I open Safari on my iPhone 3CS, I see bookmarks imported from my pc when I synched. Don't need all those so deleted most. Here's the problem: if I type in a new address in Safari addres field at top, and go to that page, then do Add Bookmark, it doesn't show up the next time I open Safari and look at the bookmarks. If I start to re-type it in the address field, the full link and title appear below, so I know it's storing it somewhere.
Can someone just point me toward an online tutorial for manageing bookmarks within the iPhone environment not the desktop?

it's one of the dangers to BYOD.....The best way to manage this is education(unless you are ready for MDM).
Granted that can be a bigger pain in the buttocks than working around it.
What I tell people(having had this happen to me a couple of times) is when it's time to change your password
1.) Make sure you have all your devices with you
2.) disable the wireless on everything
3.) change password via your laptop
4.) enable one device, and go change the password there < rinse repeat for subsequent devices.
Now, when the company I was working for moved to a MDM, the issue went away on my phone and tablet, as the mail settings were controlled by the MDM, so when i changed my password, it pushed to my other devices.

I dont have any connection - I found their eBook in the store long ago and used it to learn more about iBA.

I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

iPad constantly glitching/freezing/crashing/parts of screen unresponsive - time for a factory reset OR a trip to the Apple store???
My son has nothing but problems with his iPad Mini. It is less than a year old and it constantly freezes/crashes/glitches and parts of the screen are unresponsive. This happens while playing games, watching movies, surfing the net etc etc
The iPad has been in a heavy duty Survivor case from day 1 and has been very well taken care of - so I don't think it's a damage issue
I have tried numerous resets (just holding the 2 buttons) and have disabled every feature on the iPad that might be causing memory/RAM issues (?) all to no avail.
I haven't tried resetting to factory settings as I don't want to lose all the data on the iPad (mostly his game achievements and Minecraft maps that he has worked so hard on!!!)
SO - any suggestions:
1) Take it in to the Apple Store - I have never gone to Apple over an issue, is this possibly covered by warranty???
2) Factory Reset - If I do this can I save all his game achievements/data???

A good tutorial for Oracle BI Publisher

Hi,
I am new to BI Publisher. I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 and want to build reports in it. I found BI Publisher a good tool for building reports, based on its features on OTN and now I want a good working tutorial for using it. Is there anything?

Hi Saeed, a good starting point would be the BI Publisher user guide. Please check the link for the documentation on the latest release: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/bi_pub.html
Also when you install the desktop installation, you will find some sample template and XML data at - "C:\Program Files\Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\samples" or the path where you installed it.
