Tutorial: Integrating Blogger into iWeb

I hate how you have to be at your home computer to do any changes to your website or even post something to your blog, so using blogger I figured out a neat little trick I thought might be of some use.
Create your website like you normally would in iWeb, and go ahead and create a news/blog page, just leave it blank. You want to create the page so that in ieb you can go ahead and make links to it from your other pages. Publish your site.
Next sign up for a blogger account and start blogging. When you are done, publish your site through ftp, with the same title as your iweb page (usually blog.html or in my case news.html) Make sure to publish to the right folder on your website. Also don't use index.html, this is generally reserved for the first page a visitor sees and will write over your website. It may take some time to figure out just what to enter into the ftp form. Publish your blog and voila.
The layout will not be the same as your iweb layout unfortunately, but you can link back and forth between the two and can update your blog from anywhere.
If anyone knows how to copy the layout from blogger and incorporate it into iweb, please let me know.

    Hi,
In general, forums and discussion rooms in the portal are part of the KM & Collaboration.

  • Import blogger to iweb

    hey all,
i started a couple of year ago a blogging website on www.tomaski.be, using blogger.com
is it possible to import all my previous posted data into iweb, so i can continue to work with iweb to blog my new items ?
any help would be greatly appreciated,
    regards,

I don't think this is possible. In any case, the iWeb blog has very limited capabilities and you certainly would not want to move to it without being aware of them.

  • I am trying to edit my website which was composed in iweb. I have my website saved on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't seem to load the website folder into iweb for editing purposes. Anyone know a quick solution to this?

I am trying to edit my website which, was composed on iweb about 2 years ago. I have the website stored on my hard drive. When I open iweb, I can't figure out how to load the website into iweb for editing purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You need to migrate to a modern, supported webpage development application and leave iWeb behind.  It hasn't been supported for 2 years now and was behind the curve feature wise when it was dropped by Apple.
One app that many have migrated to because it is very similar to iWeb in the GUI and features is Everweb.  It has a demo version that you can try.  Text and photos from you current published site can be copied and pasted into Everweb to help the migration over.
There are other possible candidates.  Just search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement" to get a list of topics discussing them.

  • How can i import my old website into iweb

    hi,
my harddrive crashed and I lost all my data. When I set up OSX for new I downloaded my website (www.et-voila.net) from my ftp and I wanted to import to i-web. But I found no possibility do this.
How can I work on my old (i-web made) Website with my new i-web (i-web '08)? There must be a possibility!!
    thanks for your help

"iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up."

  • How do i import my previous website into iWeb?

I had previously designed my website in iWeb and published it, i then had to wipe my hard drive but backed everything up, now i can't seem to open or import my old website back into iweb, any help please?

John ~ In your backup, look for Domain.sites2 file which is usually located here:
...Double clicking that file should open it in iWeb.

  • Can you export a published iweb website back into iweb?

I have created my own iweb website which I uploaded to my own domain using transmit. Since creating the page, I had a had drive die on me that I can't access and don't have my site in iweb to edit as I have resorted to a back up made just before I made the site. So I want to know if I can access the site from Transmit and put it back into iweb for editing the site?
This is my first site I have made entirely on my own and have been learning as I go. If I can't access the site as I made it, I may try accessing the files from Transmit one by one to re-make the pages.
Any help on this will me very much appreciated.

Sure, you could syncronize in the opposite direction to get your html files and images, etc back on your Mac. But you will have to drag and drop, copy and paste to get that content back into iWeb.
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Unfortunately, looks like you have too.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

  • Embed iCal into iWeb through HTML snippet after Lion OSX update

How do I embed my published iCal calendar into iWeb through an HTML snippet AFTER the Lion OSX update last month? I use iWeb to create my classroom website but it no longer has my interactive calendar for my students. Help!

I am curious about this too, does anyone know how to embed a Lion iCal Calendar into iWeb?
I found an old walkthrough of how to do it, but on the published site it just opens ical and offers a subscription, you cannot actually see the calendar on the web page it is embedded on.
    Thanks!

  • How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?

How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?
    Hi
I've set up my website using iWeb 08, always keeping the latest version in iWeb and backing it up in a folder on my HD.
Yesterday I got rid of the current design iWeb and tried to upload the back-up folder into the iWeb application. No success.
How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb? Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Presumably you've been prudently making backups of your Mac's internal HD, so search there for the Domain file's invisible extension:
    .sites2
If you can't find your old Domain file, paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • How to get MobileMe photo galleries into iWeb or from Aperture?

I currenlty use MobileMe for an iWeb  published site, on which I have a link to a several dozen photo galleries, all pub;ished from Aperture.  iPhoto has an iWeb "button", but Aperture does not so far as I can see.  I am trying to find the easiest way to keep all of my stuff intact once MM dies next year.  How can I migrate, not link, my MM photo galleries into iWeb, and/or publish them from Aperture into iWeb?  Once I have the photo galleries as part of iWeb, then I'll be able to use it to publish to another web hosting service.  Thanks!

Do you have the original image files used to make up those MMe Galleries?  If so you can group them into albums in iPhoto and use the iWeb Album page or Photos page and ignore the MMe galleries.
If the files are in Aperture and there's no Aperture section in iWeb's Media Browser you will have to export those files out of Aperture as originals and drag them either into iPhoto or into an iWeb photos page.  I don't use Aperture so an unsure of what can be done between Aperture and iWeb.
If those galleries are the only copy of the photos you have you'll need to download the file (if the gallery allows it) and import into iPhoto before going into iWeb.

  • Inserting a Form Created in CoffeeCup Form Designer into iWeb...

    Hi all,
I created a web form in CoffeeCup's Flash Form creator (on my PC). The end result is 7 files and a section of code. I presume that I can insert the code as a snippet (I have version '08) but I'm unsure as to where to put the 7 associated files. In addition, this site is hosted on Go Daddy, not .Mac. Any tips on where/how in the folder architecture on my Mac to place the 7 files generated by CoffeeCup and does anyone know if there's anything funky I need to do to post this all to Go Daddy... Thanks in advance for any advice...

Yes, you can enter the Html code as a snippet, however, as far as I know you have wasted your time creating 7 pages with coffee cup as you will not be able to merge them into iWeb. Others have asked this same question and I don't think it is possible to merge web sites or pages created with other web site packages such as Dreamweaver into iWeb. You can't import in that way.
You will either need to use iWeb or coffee cup, but not both.
Use an ftp client to upload to GoDaddy. There are many - Fetch, Cyberduck or Transmit. You can do this in iWeb too.

  • Is it possible to get published to folder files back into iweb?

    Hello,
I have created a website in iweb and published it to a folder and to my .mac account. I have recently closed down my .mac account so I could reopen one with my new business name. In the meantime I have upgraded to Leopard which deleted my iweb application.I have got another copy of iweb but now when I open iweb it does not automatically open my website up. Does anyone know if it is possible to open my old website which I have Published to a folder in iweb so I can publish it to my new .mac site?
If i click on the html files in the folder it runs like the website but from that folder only. All the work is there I just can't find out how to get it back on the net.
Please help so I don't have to spend weeks re entering all the files back into iweb one by one!
    Thanks

You can upload your website files by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to get your website up and running.
To be able to publish changes you will have to do a search for the original domain.sites2 file and drop this into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
If you can't find it, then rebuilding is your only option. This is frustrating but doesn't take too long if you copy and paste all your text, images etc from the published files to your new iWeb pages.

  • Help with jquery code into iweb

    Hello,
I am new to inserting code into iweb and was wondering if it was possible to use code such as the jquery plugins into an iweb html snippet? i would like to create a simple image gallery such as the following link:
    http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/lite/
interested in the click transitions (fade in out), but instead of using the prev / next as the click triggers if it was possible to use "+" and signs
i appreciate any help you guys may provide,
    grodr

Yes, you can use JavaScript in the HTML Snippet. But it requires knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript and how iWeb works.
Anything you paste in the HTML Snippet is your responsibility. iWeb does not care whether it works or not. It happily publishes the stuff you paste.
Read this article : [Using the iWeb HTML Snippet|http://www.wyodor.net/blog/archives/2009/07/entry_213.html]
Follow the link in the article and read this sentence very very carefully:
*Publish the page on the server and test it. Make sure it works. And test it again. And again. And again. No excuse.*

This pages uses it in the two slideshows :

  • Iweb/iphoto: not able to put photos into iweb site unless named by me!

This is wierd, surely this cant be right. I am building a site in iweb. Sometimes I can drag the photo in no problem, to drop it on the page - any type page, doesnt have to be a Photo /Albums page.
But other times, only the name of the file and a box comes onto the page- no actual photo. Seems to be when the name of the photo file is from the camera, because photos named by me seem to be ok. (But not always! )
Other times, the photo I'm dragging just springs back.
Please can someone tell me what's happening and how to get round! Becuase I am stuck - I cant put the phtos I want into my website.
(I find iphoto pretty annoying anyway - I prefer the way I used to organise my phots on pc, more logical with me naming the folders. I get in such a muddle- it's so much easier to orgaise photo files in Finder, but they still end up messy in iphoto because it doesnt recocgnise the changes Ive just made with Finder! arrggghhhh!!!)

Have all your photos been taken with your camera, if so, they are all jpgs. You can take them from iphoto and place them on to the desktop into a folder. They should all work when you place them into iweb. I have been able to drag and drop illustrator files, photoshop files and jpgs, all which were photos in the first place. It shouldn't matter what they are.
The ones that don't work have you manipulated them in photoshop?
